Teaching Aims:
Knowledge and skills
Learn some words about people’s build, height and hair; Learn to talk about and describe what people look like; Learn some adjectives of general description.
Knowledge and skills
With the studying strategies of Guessing ,get the students to do pairwork to talk about people’s physical appearance by using the teaching courseware, pictures and learn to describe people’s appearance. Get the students to practice listening, discussing, and reporting.
Emotion, attitudes and value
This content is close to the students’ life, and the topic deals with the people’s physical appearance, so it’s helpful for the students to watch people’s appearance to know more about people’s appearance, and it can arise the students’ special attention and inspire them to become interested in learning English. At the same time, let them know that the people who have beautiful appearance are not real beautiful people.
Difficulties and focus:
The vocabulary of some words about people’s build, height and hair and the vocabulary of some adjectives of general description.
Some words are hard to be pronounced.
Learn to describe people’s appearance, and learn to talk about what people look like. Train students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities.
Teaching steps:
Step 1. Warm-up
Let’s chant with body gesture.
Lead in: Lead to the topic of introducing them a new friend after chanting.
Step 2 Presentations
Present new words “curly hair” “straight hart” “medium build” “medium height” “heavy” and “thin” and sentences:
What does his/her hair look like She / He has…
What does she/ he look like She is…
What do they look like They are… ( CAI.)
Game “Shining eyes”.
Have them to guess what the person looks like.
Do 1a and listen to 2a
Step 3. Pairwork
1. Talk about the appearance of different stars on the big screen.
2. Finish 2b
Step 4. Group work
Play a vedio and have them to think what the vedio is about.
Do part 3 on the text book by talking about their favorite teachers.
Step 5 Activity “Alligator accident”
Present “the accident”.
Discuss in groups.
Group leaders give reports.
