A
Animals
are
natural
resources
that
people
have
wasted
all
through
our
history.
Animals
have
been
killed
for
their
fur
and
feathers,
for
food,for
sport,
and
simply
because
they
were
in
the
way.
Thousands
of
kinds
of
animals
have
disappeared
from
the
earth
forever.
Hundreds
more
are
on
the
danger
list
today.
About
170
kinds
in
the
United
States
alone
are
considered
in
danger.
Why
should
people
care?
Because
we
need
animals.
And
because
once
they
are
gone,
there
will
never
be
any
more.
Animals
are
more
than
beautiful
or
interesting
or
a
source
of
food.
Every
animal
has
its
place
in
the
balance
of
nature.
Destroying
one
kind
of
animal
can
create
many
problems.
For
example,
when
farmers
killed
large
numbers
of
hawks
(鹰),the
farmers'
stores
of
corn
and
grain
were
destroyed
by
mice.
Why?
Because
hawks
eat
mice.
With
no
hawks
to
keep
down
their
numbers,
the
mice
multiplied
quickly.
Luckily,
some
people
are
working
to
help
save
the
animals.
Some
groups
raise
money
to
let
people
know
about
the
problem.
And
they
try
to
get
the
governments
to
pass
laws
protecting
animals
in
danger.
Quite
a
few
countries
have
passed
laws.
These
laws
forbid
the
killing
of
any
animal
or
plant
on
the
danger
list.
Slowly,
the
number
of
some
animals
in
danger
is
growing.
本文是一篇关于动物保护的说明文。目前,世界范围内很多动物的数量正在不断下降,保护濒危动物刻不容缓。保护动物不仅是为动物,也是为我们人类自己的生存考虑。幸运的是,现在有的国家已经开始行动,例如成立保护组织或制定法律等对濒危动物进行有效的保护。
1.What
is
the
best
title
for
the
passage?
A.Save
the
Animals
B.Useful
Animals
C.Laws
for
Animals
D.Animals
in
Danger
答案:A
解析:标题归纳题。文章提到动物面临的生存现状、保护动物的必要性以及目前一些国家对野生动物采取的保护措施等都体现了保护动物的主题,故文章标题应是“保护动物”。
2.Animals
are
important
to
us
mainly
because
________.
A.they
give
us
a
source
of
food
B.they
are
beautiful
and
lovely
C.they
keep
the
balance
of
nature
D.they
give
us
a
lot
of
pleasure
答案:C
解析:细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Animals
are
more
than...in
the
balance
of
nature.”可以看出,每一种动物的存在都是有道理的,都是为了维持自然界的平衡。
3.What
is
the
meaning
of
the
underlined
word
“multiplied”
in
the
passage?
A.Became
more.
B.Became
less.
C.Turned
black.
D.Ate
food.
答案:A
解析:词义猜测题。由画线词所在的段落可以看出,当鹰的数量因人类的捕杀而减少时,粮食就会受到老鼠的严重毁坏。没有鹰对老鼠的捕杀,老鼠的数量自然是增长很快,即“变得更多”。
4.We
can
infer
from
the
passage
that
________.
A.people
have
known
the
importance
of
animal
protection
since
a
long
time
ago
B.animals
play
an
important
role
in
people's
life
C.the
number
of
hawks
is
on
the
decrease
D.many
countries
passed
laws
forbidding
the
killing
of
any
animal
答案:B
解析:推理判断题。根据第一段和第四段的描述可以看出,此前人们对于动物的保护并不关注,当然也并未意识到保护动物的重要性,故可排除A项。通过对文章第四段的理解可以得知动物在人们的生活中起着重要作用,故B项正确。文中提到鹰的数量由于人类的捕杀而减少,但并非现在的情况,故可排除C项。D项中提到许多国家制定了法律来禁止对一切动物的捕杀,忽略了文中on
the
danger
list这个说法,故该项是不对的。
B
Passenger
pigeons
(旅鸽)
were
the
most
common
birds
in
all
of
North
America
in
the
1800s.
It
was
common
to
see
large
groups
of
passenger
pigeons—groups
that
made
a
sound
like
a
storm.
But
today,
they
are
extinct
because
of
human
behavior.
Now,
some
scientists
want
to
bring
passenger
pigeons
back
to
life
by
using
new
technology
and
scientific
ideas.
They
call
this
process
de?extinction.
De?extinction
has
not
happened
yet.
It
is
still
just
an
idea.
The
process
of
de?extinction
is
not
easy.
First,
scientists
must
collect
DNA
from
the
bodies
of
extinct
animals.
Then
they
will
put
it
in
the
eggs
of
similar
animal
species.
When
these
animals
become
adults,
they
will
have
babies.
And
these
baby
animals
will
have
the
DNA
of
the
extinct
animals.
Scientists
believe
it
is
possible
to
bring
back
passenger
pigeons
and
many
other
animals.
However,
not
everyone
thinks
this
is
a
good
idea.
Stuart
Primm
is
the
world's
leading
expert
on
modern
animal
extinction.
He
believes
that
bringing
extinct
animals
back
to
life
is
bad
for
the
earth.
On
the
one
hand,
these
animals
no
longer
have
a
safe
place
to
live.
On
the
other
hand,
they
could
cause
other
animals
to
die.
Many
other
scientists
do
not
agree
with
Stuart
Primm.
Stuart
Brand,
a
writer
and
scientist,
is
one
of
them.
He
believes
de?extinction
is
good
for
many
reasons.
“The
current
generation
(当代)
of
children
will
experience
the
return
of
some
unusual
animals
in
their
lifetime.
It
may
be
part
of
what
defines
their
generation
and
their
attitude
to
the
natural
world.
They
will
take
their
parents
to
zoos
to
see
the
growing
populations
of
passenger
pigeons,
and
maybe
even
dodo
birds.
This
will
provide
a
good
deal
of
money
for
zoos
busy
with
extinct
species
restoration
(恢复).
Humans
killed
off
a
lot
of
species
over
the
last
10,000
years.
So,
it's
right
to
bring
some
back
to
life,”
he
said.
本文是一篇议论文。文章主要讨论了灭绝物种复活这一新科技。
5.In
the
19th
century,
passenger
pigeons
________.
A.were
common
sightings
B.suffered
a
lot
from
storms
C.lived
mainly
in
North
America
D.were
the
largest
in
American
history
答案:A
解析:细节理解题。根据第一段中的Passenger
pigeons
(旅鸽)
were
the
most
common
birds
in
all
of
North
America
in
the
1800s.
It
was
common
to

6.What
do
we
know
about
de?extinction?
A.It
will
change
the
DNA
of
the
extinct
animals.
B.It
was
first
used
in
passenger
pigeons.
C.It
is
difficult
to
carry
out.
D.It
proved
to
be
useful.
答案:C
解析:细节理解题。根据第二段中的The
process
of
de?extinction
is
not
easy.以及接下来具体介绍灭绝物种复活的复杂过程可知,复活灭绝物种绝非易事。
7.Why
is
Stuart
Primm
against
bringing
back
extinct
animals?
A.They
will
die
very
soon.
B.They
will
create
other
problems.
C.They
will
do
great
harm
to
humans.
D.They
will
replace
the
similar
species.
答案:B
解析:推理判断题。根据第四段中的He
believes
that
bringing
extinct
animals
back
to
life
is
bad
for
the
earth...these
animals
no
longer
have
a
safe
place
to
live.和they
could
cause
other
animals
to
die可知,Stuart
Primm反对灭绝物种复活是因为他认为这些复活的动物会造成一些新的问题。
8.How
does
Stuart
Brand
feel
about
de?extinction?
A.Wrong.
B.Difficult.
C.Important.
D.Wasteful.
答案:C
解析:推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的He
believes
de?extinction
is
good
for
many
reasons.以及Stuart
Brand在最后一段具体陈述灭绝物种复活的好处可知,他认为复活灭绝物种很重要。Unit

答案与解析
1.第二句的had→have。句意:它是一个如此美丽的村庄以至于我参观了很多次。根据many
times可知句子用现在完成时态,故把had改为have。
2.第三句的Locating→Located。句意:坐落在浙江省嘉兴市,乌镇有大约6
000年的历史。be
located
in坐落在……,此处是过去分词作伴随状语。故把Locating改为Located。
3.第四句的which→it。句意:像很多南方小城镇一样,那里有许多穿过清澈的小溪的小桥。此句是简单句,故把which改为it。
4.第四句的through→across或over。句意:像很多南方小城镇一样,那里有许多穿过清澈的小溪的小桥。through指从内部穿过;across或over指从表面或正上方穿过。故把through改为over/across。
5.第五句的they前面加and。句意:当地人住在老房子里,并且他们非常友好。此处是并列句,故在they前加and。
6.第六句的enjoying→enjoy。句意:在白天,你可以步行或坐在船上欣赏沿溪的自然风光。根据句意可知此处是动词不定式作目的状语,故把enjoying改为enjoy。
7.第七句的attractively→attractive。句意:夜晚的景色也是吸引人的。be动词后面用形容词作表语。故把attractively改为attractive。
8.第八句的light改为lights。句意:有各种各样圆的、方的灯。all
kinds
of修饰可数名词复数,故把light改为lights。
9.第九句的for去掉。句意:每次我看到我拍的照片时。此处the
pictures是先行词,指物,在后面的定语从句中作宾语,故把for去掉。
10.第十句的an→the。句意:我爱这个令人惊叹的水上村庄!此处表示特指,故把an改为the。Unit

Ⅰ.阅读理解
Being
about
63cm
long,
the
toco
toucan
(鞭笞巨嘴鸟)
is
the
largest
of
all
toucans.
Its
black
body
and
white
throat
look
small
because
of
its
large
colorful
beak
(鸟嘴).
The
bright
orange
beak
is
about
19cm
long—almost
one
third
of
the
bird's
total
length.
But
the
beak
weighs
less
than
you
may
think.
Recent
research
shows
that
toucans
control
body
temperature
by
changing
the
flow
of
blood
to
their
beak.
More
blood
flow
means
more
heat
is
released.
When
toucans
sleep,
they
put
their
beaks
under
their
feathers
(羽毛)
to
keep
them
warm.
Toco
toucans
also
use
their
beaks
to
peel
fruit,
their
main
source
of
food.
Also,
the
beak
houses
a
flat
tongue
of
the
same
length,
which
helps
the
toucan
catch
insects,
frogs
and
reptiles.
Toco
toucans
also
eat
the
eggs
of
other
birds
sometimes.
Although
they
spend
a
lot
of
time
in
trees,
toucans
mainly
travel
among
trees
by
jumping.
When
they
do
take
flight,
they
flap
their
wings
hard,
travelling
only
short
distances.
Toucans
live
in
the
holes
of
trees.
They
often
move
into
holes
made
and
given
up
by
woodpeckers.
It
is
in
these
holes
that
they
lay
their
eggs,
usually
two
to
four
a
year.
Both
parents
sit
on
the
eggs
for
16—20
days.
Once
the
chicks
come
out,
both
parents
continue
to
care
for
the
young.
Native
to
South
America,
toco
toucans
can
live
in
a
variety
of
habitats
including
tropical
forests,
savannas,
and
shrubland.
Therefore,
they
are
not
heavily
influenced
by
rainforest
destruction
(破坏).
Their
population
has
not
been
determined,
but
it
is
thought
to
be
large
due
to
the
frequency
of
sightings
within
their
range.
As
such,
the
toco
toucan
is
listed
by
the
IUCN
as
being
of
least
concern,
and
there
are
no
specific
efforts
to
protect
the
species.

should
take
to
write
a

Other
ideas
can

Step
2
Once
you
have
an
idea,
you
can
then
decide
who
your
main

going
to
be.

follow
its
events.

that
you
have
your
outline,
it
is
time
to
start
writing.
Follow
your
outline
and
write
your
story.
At
this
point,
your
story
does
not
have
to
be
perfect.
__4__
Step
5
The
story
you
have
written
is
your
first
draft
(草稿).
The
next
step
is
to
read
through
it
and
revise
(修改)
it.
After
your
self?revision,
it's
time
to
get
some
advice
about
your
story.
__5__
Finally,
you
should
now
have
a
well?written
story.
A.You
will
go
back
and
improve
it
later.
B.Before
you
start,
you
need

plan
your
story.
C.It
is
also
an
excellent
way
to
express
creative
thoughts.

story
should
have
a
beginning,a
middle,and
an
end.
E.These
activities
are
excellent
subjects
to
base
your
stories
on.
F.Keep
working
on
your
story
until
it
is
the
best
you
can
make
