一、Teaching Content
Lesson 12 “Maddy’s Family Photos” in Grade Five.
二、Conditions of Students
The students in Grade five have learnt some information of different countries. Most of them can express the name of countries, the language of countries, the capital city of countries and several special things in different countries. Therefore, they need to summary all knowledge in the whole system. Some of them need to discuss and repeat about knowledge of countries. They like to listen to stories. They are curious about the story that they don’t know. They can imagine different kinds of situations happening in the story. They also like to perform some interesting plans according to the story. Some of them need to be encouraged to keep the confidence.

1.Students will listen to, and understand the simple story.
2. Students will ask and answer questions about the story.
3. Students will perform and retell the simple story using their own words.

Step 1 Warming-up
1. Greeting:Hello, boys and girls. How are you today?
[设计意图] 通过温馨的问候,创设轻松愉快的英语学习氛围,调动学生学习英语的积极性。
2.Play a game
T: Let’s have a competition. l divide you into two groups. Then I’ll show you some pictures and questions. If you know the answer, please say it out quickly.(依次出示各国地图、国旗、重要景点的图片课件请学生抢答。)
S1: It’s a flag of Canada .
T: Right. It’s a flag of Canada .
S2: ……
[设计意图] 游戏是学生最喜欢的环节,通过激烈的抢答比赛,复习了有关本单元的词汇和句子。即:说英语国家的首都、国旗、重要的标志物、自然景观。也为下一步故事教学的顺利进行打下基础。
Step2 Lesson Hook
Free talk:
T: Where do you live?
S1: I live in China.
T: Where does your family live?
S2: My family lives in China.
T: Do you have a big family?
S3: No. (Yes.)
T:Look at this picture. Who is she ? What do you know about her ?
S: She is a monster. She is very tall……
T: Nice work! Maddy has something to say to you. Let’s listen carefully.(listen to the record)
T: Do you want to see her family photos?
S: Yes.
T: OK. Now let’s begin.
[设计意图] 从复习到新授,过渡自然,不会割裂知识的整体性。通过师生的随意对话,由展示自己的家庭照片很自然地过渡到故事教学Maddy’s Family Photos这个新授的环节,从而取得良好的教学效果。
Step3 Read the story .
1) Picture 1--3
a. Show the pictures and ask some questions.
T: Where does Maddy live?
S: Canada.
T: What does Maddy speak?
S: English and French.
T: What does Maddy like to do?
S: She likes to go to Niagara Falls.
b. Listen to the tape, then read follow it . Pay attention to the pronunciation .
2) Picture 4
a. A riddle:
T: This monster is Maddy ’ s uncle’s daughter. Who is she ?
Ss: She is Maddy’s cousin.
T: Yes. Look, this is Maddy’s cousin.
b. Show the picture and ask some questions.
T:Where does Maddy’s cousin live?
S: China.
T: How do you know?
S: He is at The Great Wall.
T: Where is the Great Wall ?
S: In Beijing.
T: Does he speak Chinese?
S: Yes.
c. Listen to the tape, then read follow it . Pay attention to the pronunciation .
3) Picture 5
T: Maddy’s father’s father is Maddy’s grandfather.
Ss: Yes. (Maybe someone is wrong.)

[设计意图] 将整个故事分成几个片断进行教学,在一定程度上降低了学生理解的难度。同时针对图中的画面信息,教师设置疑问,诱发学生去思考,锻炼了学生用英语思维的能力,同时也注重了学生听说能力的培养。在听读故事的过程中边听,边读,边进行思考,使学生学会自主学习。
Step4 Consolidation and extension .
Teacher show a chart , let the student to complete it in groups . Then let every groups to introduce it .
