Do
you
know
what
Oscar
is?
When
did
it
start?
Maybe
you
can
find
the
background
of
the
awards
in
the
following
passage.
The
awards
started
in
1929.
Their
full
title
is
"The
Academy
of
Motion
Picture
Arts
and
Sciences
Awards".
The
Academy
is
a
group
of
people
who
have
worked
in
the
film
industry
for
many
years.
They
decide
who
will
receive
the
awards.
The
awards
are
often
referred
to
as
the
"Oscar".
This
is
a
nickname
given
to
the
awards
by
a
lady
called
Margaret
Herrick.
She
was
once
the
director
of
the
Academy
and
she
once
said
that
the
little
gold
statue
reminded
her
of
her
uncle
Oscar!
The
Oscar
is
always
an
exciting
event.
Each
year,
at
least
one
unusual
thing
happens.
When
the
Italian
actor
and
director
Roberto
Benigni
won
an
Oscar
for
best
foreign
film,
he
danced
on
stage!
When
Gwyneth
Paltrow,
the
star
of
Shakespeare
in
Love
won
the
Oscar
for
best
actress,
she
could
not
make
her
acceptance
speech
because
she
was
crying
so
much
with
happiness!
In
1987,
Roberto
Benigni
won
the
award
for
best
director
for
a
film
about
the
last
emperor
of
China.
Since
then,
Chinese
film
and
actors
have
started
to
make
an
impact
at
the
award.
Crouching
Tiger,
Hidden
Dragon
was
a
huge
success
and
it
won
the
award
for
best
foreign
language
film
in
2001.
It
also
won
several
technical
awards
for
its
amazing
"flying"
people,
We
expect
to
see
more
awards
for
Chinese
film
in
the
near
future.
It's
time
for
the
Oscar
again.
Once
more,
the
stars
will
dress
up
in
their
finest
and
go
to
Kodar
Theater.
There,
they
will
find
out
who
had
won
the
awards
for
best
actor,
best
actress
and
best
director.
Millions
of
people
watch
the
awards
every
year
to
find
out
who
the
winners
are.
Some
people
watch
it
to
see
the
stars
crying
and
laughing
as
they
receive
their
awards.

(2)
Would
you
eat
a
ready
meal
from
the
fridge
rather
than
cook
by
yourself?
Have
you
been
doing
Internet
shopping
rather
than
going
to
the
stores?
What
can't
you
be
bothered
to
do?
A
study
into
how
lazy
British
people
are
has
found
more
than
half
of
the
adults
are
so
idle
(懒散的
that
they'd
catch
the
lift
rather
than
climb
two
flights
of
stairs.
Just
over
2,000
people
were
quizzed
by
independent
researchers
at
Nuffield
Health,
Britain's
largest
health
center.
The
results
were
extremely
surprising.
About
one
in
six
people
questioned
said
if
their
remote
control
was
broken,
they
would
continue
watching
the
same
channel
rather
than
get
up.
More
than
one
third
of
those
questioned
said
they
would
not
run
to
catch
a
bus.
Worryingly,
of
the
654
respondents
with
children,
64%
said
they
were
often
too
tired
to
play
with
them.
This
led
the
report
to
conclude
that
ifs
no
wonder
that
one
in
six
children
in
the
UK
are
classified
as
obese
(very
fat)
before
they
start
school.
Dr
Sarah
Dauncey,
medical
director
of
Nuffield
Health,
said,
"
People
need
to
get
fitter,
not
just
for
their
own
sake,
but
for
the
sake
of
their
families,
friends
and
evidently
(明显地;显然)
their
pets
too.
"
"If
we
don't
start
to
take
control
of
this
problem,
a
whole
generation
will
become
too
unfit
to
perform
even
the
most
fundamental
tasks."
And
Scotland's
largest
city,
Glasgow,
was
shamed
as
the
most
idle
city
in
the
UK,
with
75%
questioned
admitting
they
do
not
get
enough
exercise,
followed
closely
by
Birmingham
and
Southampton,
both
with
67%.
The
results
bring
serious
challenges
for
the
National
Health
Service,
where
obesity-related
illnesses
such
as
heart
disease
and
cancer
have
been
on
a
steady
increase
for
the
past
40
years
and
are
costing
billions
of
pounds
every
year.

(3)
Where
in
the
world
can
you
take
an
hour's
train
ride,
and
pass
a
forest,
a
London
street,
a
scene
from
the
Wild
West,
and
a
burning
building
that
never
burns
down?
There's
only
one
place,
and
that's
Hollywood,
in
California
The
scenes
you
see
from
the
tourist
train
are
film
sets(布景)in
the
Universal
Studios,
one
of
the
oldest
and
largest
movie
companies
in
the
USA.
A
visit
to
Universal
Studios
brings
back
memories
of
great
days
of
Hollywood,
the
films
and
the
stars.
But
they
are
only
memories.
Hollywood
isn't
quite
the
same
as
it
used
to
be.
Costs
have
gone
up
and
confidence
has
gone
down.
Movie-makers
are
afraid
to
spend
their
money
on
expensive
new
ideas.
Instead,
they
repeat
old
ones.
The
film
industry
is
changing
fast.
Teenagers
still
go
out
to
the
movies.
The
theatre
is
a
good
place
to
meet
Mends
away
from
home.
But
older
people
mostly
stay
at
home
to
watch
series,
like
Dynasty,
which
have
become
as
important
to
Hollywood
as
expensive
movies.
These
"soap
opera",
as
they
are
called,
show
rich,
powerful
families
living
in
beautiful
homes
and
wearing
beautiful
clothes.
But
the
actors
and
actresses
are
nearly
all
middle-aged,
like
many
of
the
people
who
watch
them.
Though
it
is
soap
operas
that
are
keeping
the
film-makers
of
Hollywood
in
business,
big
films
are
still
being
made
in
America.
But
more
and
more
of
them
are
made
outside
Hollywood.
New
York
is
the
most
important
new
centre,
but
there
are
many
others
as
well.
Movie-makers
have
realized
that
they
don't
need
Hollywood
any
more.
Modern
cameras
and
real
houses
replace
expensively
made
copies
in
a
studio.
Other
states,
especially
Florida
and
Texas,
are
working
hard
to
take
the
film
business
away
from
California.
They
are
offering
better
working
conditions
and
lower
cost.
But
Hollywood
is
fighting
back.
The
state
of
California
is
trying
hard
to
keep
its
best-known
industry.

Mona
Island
is
an
amazing
place
to
take
a
vacation.
Some
of
the
animals
living
there
can't
be
found
anywhere
else
in
the
world.
There
are
beautiful
beaches
and
caves
to
explore.
The
sea
around
the
island
has
colourful
fishes.
Why
Is
Mona
Island
Unusual?
Mona
Island
is
very
small.
The
government
of
Puerto
Rico
takes
care
of
the
island
and
has
made
it
a
natural
reserve,
That
means
the
island's
animals
and
plants
are
protected
from
being
harmed
by
people.
Mona
Island
is
different
from
most
places
because
people
are
not
allowed
to
live
there.
Only
a
few
park
rangers
are
able
to
stay.
The
park
rangers'
job
is
to
keep
Mona
Island
safe
and
beautiful.
They
insist
that
rules
be
followed.
One
rule
is
that
only
100
people
at
a
time
can
visit
the
island.
That
way,
the
park
rangers
can
make
sure
the
land
and
animals
remain
safe.
What
Is
There
to
See
on
Mona
Island?
One
thing
that
most
people
enjoy
is
getting
to
see
the
Mona
Island
iguanas.
This
type
of
reptile
(爬行动物)lives
only
on
Mona
Island.
Almost
2,
000
of
these
iguanas
live
on
Mona
Island.
People
also
come
to
the
island
to
get
a
close-up
view
of
many
kinds
of
fish
and
other
sea
life.
They
can
swim
far
below
the
surface.
They
use
special
equipment
to
be
able
to
breathe
underwater.
The
water
is
almost
transparent.
Through
the
clear
water,
divers
can
see
the
bright
colours
of
the
fish.
Visitors
can
also
explore
caves.
Some
of
the
caves
even
have
paintings
and
drawings
on
the
walls.
This
artwork
was
made
by
the
Arawak
and
Taino
Indians
who
lived
on
the
island
hundreds
of
years
ago.
After
a
full
day
of
fun
activities,
visitors
can
settle
in,
listen
to
the
night
sounds,
and
view
the
stars
in
the
huge
sky.
Because
the
island
is
far
away
from
other
places,
it
is
surrounded
by
darkness,
and
the
stars
are
easier
to
see.
Visitors
say
that
watching
the
stars
is
amazing.
It's
the
perfect
end
to
a
perfect
day.

Offer
some
help

visitors.

3.

C.
Because

can
settle
in
after
a

day
on
Mona

around
it.

is
the
most
possible
reason

this
article?
A.

explain
why
animals
live
on
the

B.
To
show
readers
where
the
island
is
located.
C.
To
tell
about
a
place
that
some
people
might
enjoy.
D.
To
give

(5)
It
seems
food
deliverymen
(送货员)
are
always
in
a
hurry.
They
wear
blue,
red
or
yellow
helmets
(头盔)
and
many
of
them
don’t
follow
traffic
rules.
They
drive
on
the
wrong
side
of
the
road
and
run
red
lights.
They
use
mobile
phones
while
driving.
These
reckless
(鲁莽的)
behaviors
have
caught
the
public’s
attention.
In
the
first
half
of
2017,
food
deliverymen
had
76
traffic
accidents
in
Shanghai,
according
to
Shanghai
Public
Security
Bureau.
That
means
every
two
and
a
half
days,
a
food
deliveryman
will
die
or
get
hurt
on
the
road.
What
makes
deliverymen
take
such
risks?
The
strict
rules
of
the
food
delivery
service
companies
and
the
anxious
(焦急的)
customers
may
be
the
answer.
Many
companies
will
fine
a
deliveryman
up
to
2,000
yuan,
if
he
fails
to
deliver
an
order
on
time,
reported
China
Daily.
Fines
also
go
to
those
who
get
bad
reviews
from
customers.
To
solve
the
problem,
food
delivery
service
companies
need
to
improve
their
incentive
systems
(激励制度),
noted
CRI
Online.
Some
cities
are
also
taking
action.
Shanghai
has
asked
companies
to
train
their
deliverymen
on
traffic
rules
and
safety.
Now
in
Shenzhen,
if
a
deliveryman
gets
caught
breaking
traffic
rules
more
than
twice,
then
he
will
be
banned
from
driving
food
service
delivery
vehicles
(交通工具)
for
a
whole
year
.

Which
of
the
following
statements

passage?

an
order
on
time,
he
will

C.
It
matters
a
lot
to
a
deliveryman
if
he
gets
bad
reviews
from
customers.
D.
The
deliveryman
isn’t
allowed
to
send
food
for
a
whole
year
if
he

5.
What
is
the
main
idea

Garrison
had
been
treasuring
his
last
piece.
All
he
had
left
now
was
a
sheet
of
the
beautiful
brown
paper
Pa
had
brought
back
from
his
last
sailing
trip.
“You’ve
been
quiet,

Pa
said,
“Could
I
see
your
picture?

Garrison
handed
over
his
sketch.
Pa
studied
it,
then
looked
at
his
son.
“You’re
ten
now,
eh?

Garrison
nodded,
hoping
Pa
wouldn’t
say
that
he
was
too
old
to
be
fooling
around
with
pencils
and
paper.
“When
I
was
ten,
I
wanted
to
work
on
my
father’s
ship,”
Pa
said,
“When
Thomas
was
ten,
he
asked
me
to
let
him
plant
the
corn.
”Garrison’s
throat
(嗓子)
tightened.
“I
know
I’m
not
like
either
of
you.”Pa
looked
at
the
drawing
again.
“No,
you
are
like
both
of
us.
You
work
hard,
like
Thomas.
And
you’re
like
me,
too.
I
have
wandering
feet,
but
you
have
a
wandering
mind.
We
need
to
see
things
differently.
Garrison
frowned.
“I’d
rather
love
the
land,
like
Thomas,
or
the
sea…”
Pa
patted
his
hand.
“Thomas
cares
about
our
family
very
much-that’s
why
he’s
worked
so
hard
to
bring
us
food.
And
my
love
for
the
sea
makes
good
money.
But
there’s
more
in
life
than
food
and
money.
There’s
happiness,
for
one.
Does
it
make
you
happy
to
draw?

Garrison
nodded.
“And
it
makes
me
happy
to
look
at
your
drawings.
Not
many
folks
can
catch
happiness
on
a
piece
of
paper.
Some
might
say
drawing’s
a
waste
of
time,
but
they
don’t
understand
how
things
are.
Why,
asking
you
to
stop
drawing
like
asking
Thomas
to
stop
farming,
or
me
to
stop
going
to
sea.
It
would
be
like
asking
us
to
stop
breathing,
wouldn’t
it?

Garrison
considered
this,
then
replied,
“No,
sir.
Not
quite
like
breathing.
If
I
couldn’t
draw
any
more,
it
would
be…
like
someone
took
away
my
voice.”
He
hung
his
head.
In
his
mind
he
could
hear
Thomas
laughing,
“It’s
not
like
you
ever
speak
up,
anyway.”
But
Pa
patted
his
shoulder
and
said,
“That
would
be
a
pure
shame.
Your
voice
is
important,
Garrison,
whether
it’s
out
loud
or
on
paper.
And
speaking
of
paper…”
Pa
smiled.
“Take
a
look
in
my
bag.”
Garrison
reached
into
the
bag
and
found
a
sketchbook.
For
a
moment
he
was
speechless
happiness
seemed
to
fill
his
body
and
stick
in
his
throat.
Then
he
managed
to
find
his
voice.
“Oh,
Pa-thank
you.”

Trees
in
cities
“live
fast
but
die
young”
compared
to
forests
in
the
countryside,
warns
a
new
study.
Researchers
found
that
trees
in
cities
die
younger
than
ones
in
the
countryside
because
of
the
higher
levels
of
CO2.
City-living
trees
suffer(遭受)
a
loss
of
carbon
storage(碳储量).
That
means
trees
produce
less
energy
from
the
air.
Now
researchers
say
more
must
be
done
to
deal
with
the
situation.
Ian
Smith,
a
PhD
student
of
Boston
University
in
the
United
States,
said,
“Cities
are
in
the
important
position
in
fighting
against
rising
temperatures
and
increasing
CO2.”.
“We
find
that
tree
planting
alone
may
not
be
enough
to
keep
and
increase
city
canopy
cover(树冠覆盖率).
Because
of
the
age
and
size
of
the
present
canopy,
efforts
to
improve
and
protect
tree
health
are
badly
needed
for
increasing
city
tree
cover
and
canopy
cover.”
The
research
team
used
a
model
to
watch
changes
among
street
trees
for
several
planting
and
management
methods.
Researchers
also
used
the
model
to
watch
tree
growth,
death
and
planting
rates(率)both
among
trees
in
Boston
city
and
forests
in
the
countryside
in
Massachusetts.
It
was
discovered
that
rates
of
carbon
cycling
and
growth
rates
among
city
trees
were
nearly
four
times
faster
than
those
in
the
countryside.
However,
loss
of
carbon
storage
and
death
rates
are
also
higher,
especially
death
rates
are
more
than
double
higher
than
those
in
countryside
forests.
The
study,
published
in
PLOS
ONE,
has
reminded
scientists
to
encourage
communities
to
do
more
to
plant
and
protect
trees.
It
is
important
to
increase
city
canopy
cover
and
carbon
storage.
Researchers
say
planting
and
protecting
will
be
needed
to
make
sure
cities
can
develop
healthily,
but
more
needs
to
be
done
to
have
a
better
understanding
of
city
trees
---which
may
be
different
from
countryside
forests.

According
to
the
passage,
which
of
the
following
is
TRUE?
A.
The

loses,
the
more
energy

air.
B.
The
higher
the
levels
of
CO2
are,
the
harder
it
will
be

the
plants
to
survive.
C.
If
we

trees,
we
are

Many
children
spend
a
lot
of
time
watching
or
playing
with
electronic
media
–from
televisions
to
video
games,
computers
and
other
devices(设备).
So,
it
is
natural
that
parents
should
wonder
about
the
time
children
spend
looking
at
a
TV
or
computer
screen.
Americans
say
“screen
time”
when
they
talk
about
any
time
children
spend
in
front
of
an
electronic
device.
Perhaps
parents
can
stop
worrying
so
much
about
screen
time,
at
least
for
older
boys
and
girls.
In
October
2016,
the
American
Academy
of
Pediatrics
(AAP)
listed
several
suggestions
for
parents
and
child
care
workers.
Here
are
some
of
the
suggestions.
Avoid
digital
media
use
in
children
younger
than
18
to
24
months.
For
children
aged
18-24
months,
avoid
letting
the
child
watch
media
alone.
And
avoid
using
media
as
a
way
to
comfort
your
child.
For
children
two
to
five
years
of
age,
allow
one-hour
screen
time
on
“high-quality(质量)programming”
a
day
and
watch
it
with
your
child.
For
children
aged
6
and
older,
don’t
spend
too
much
time
using
media.
Also,
make
sure
that
screen
time
does
not
take
the
place
of
healthy
sleep,
exercising,
doing
homework
and
other
activities.
Make
sure
to
have
media-free
time
together
as
a
family,
such
as
dinner
or
driving.
Also
make
some
areas
of
the
home
media-free.
Turn
off
you
child’s
electronic
devices
an
hour
before
bedtime.
1.What
is
“screen
time”
according
to
Americans?
A.A
kind
of
timing
system(系统).
B.A
survey
on
electronic
media
C.Any
time
children
spend
in
front
of
electronic
media.
D.Any
electronic
device
children
like
to
play
with
2.What
did
AAP
do
in
2016
?
A.They
gave
some
practical
suggestions.
B.They
told
parents
how
to
reduce
their
children’s
screen
time.
C.They
trained
many
child
care
workers.
D.They
raised
much
money
to
stop
children
using
electronic
devices.
3.How
do
parents
deal
with
the
screen
time
for
children
two
to
five
years
of
age?
A.Choose
proper
programs
and
watch
with
them.
B.Play
with
them
for
at
least
one
hour.
C.Avoid
letting
them
watch
TV.
D.Don’t
worry
about
them.
4.How
does
AAP
explain
too
much
screen
time?
A.An
hour
or
more
every
day.
B.Using
too
many
electronic
devices.
C.Screen
time
takes
the
place
of
other
activities
D.Using
electronic
media
to
comfort
the
children.
5.What
is
media-free
time?
A.It
is
the
time
you
can
use
media
freely.
B.It
is
the
time
you
cook
or
drive.
C.It
is
the
time
to
be
with
your
family.
D.It
is
the
time
you
stay
away
from
electronic
devices.

One
afternoon
I
was
sitting
at
home
feeling
so
bored.
Instead
of
feeling
sorry
for
myself,
I
wanted
to
meet
people
and
have
new
experiences,
so
I
decided
to
start
volunteering.
I
searched
on
my
computer
and
found
a
website
where
I
could
volunteer
on
a
farm
in
France.
Working
on
a
farm
was
a
new
experience
for
me.
I
had
to
look
after
fifteen
horses
and
sleep
at
the
top
of
a
tower
in
a
castle!
I
was
an
awful
farmer
but
it
did
not
matter
because
I
made
some
great
friends.
However,
you
do
not
need
to
go
abroad
to
volunteer.
I
have
had
plenty
of
adventures
at
home
as
volunteering
can
become
a
hobby.
For
example,
at
university,
I
organized
a
concert
for
charity
with
my
friends.
It
was
really
fun
finding
bands
and
raising
money
for
a
cause
we
believe
in.
It
is
true
that
you
feel
good
when
volunteering
but
there
are
also
other
advantages.
I
once
volunteered
as
a
server
at
a
charity
sports
event
where
the
organizers
gave
me
cupcakes
to
thank
me
for
my
service.
I
also
volunteered
in
a
charity
shop
so
I
found
loads
of
nice
cheap
clothes
to
update
my
wardrobe(衣~E).
While
this
is
all
fun,
my
favourite
aspect
of
volunteering
is
creating
and
sharing
stories.
My
attempts
at
farming
have
given
me
hilarious
stories
to
tell!
Talking
to
volunteers
from
different
countries
and
backgrounds
has
also
helped
me
learn
more
about
the
world.
I
feel
thankful
to
have
had
so
much
fun
with
many
nice
people.

One
day
when
some
government
officials
were
rebuilding
a
barn,they
found
a
mouse
hole
in
a
corner
and
used
smoke
to
let
the
mice
inside
the
hole
come
out.
A
while
later
they
indeed
saw
mice
running
out,one
after
another.
Then,everyone
thought
that
all
the
mice
had
escaped.
But
just
as
they
began
to
clean
up,they
saw
two
mice
squeezing
out
at
the
mouth
of
the
hole.
With
some
efforts,the
mice
finally
got
out.
However,it
was
strange
that
after
they
came
out
of
the
hole,they
did
not
run
away
immediately.
Instead,one
chased
after
the
other
near
the
mouth
of
the
hole.
It
seemed
that
one
was
trying
to
bite
the
tail
of
the
other.
Everyone
was
puzzled,so
they
stepped
nearer
to
take
a
look.
They
realized
that
one
of
the
mice
was
blind
and
could
not
see
anything,and
the
other
was
trying
to
allow
the
blind
mouse
to
bite
on
his
tail
so
that
he
could
pull
the
blind
one
with
him
to
escape.
After
seeing
what
happened,everyone
was
speechless
and
lost
in
thought.
During
the
meal
time,the
group
of
people
sat
down
in
a
circle
and
started
to
chat
about
what
happened
to
the
two
mice.
One
serious
American
official
said:"I
think
the
relationship
between
those
two
mice
was
that
of
king
and
guard.
"The
others
thought
for
a
while
and
said:"That
was
why!"A
smart
French
said:"I
think
the
relationship
between
those
two
mice
was
that
of
husband
and
wife.
"Again
the
others
thought
for
a
while,and
all
felt
it
made
sense.
A
Japanese
said:"I
think
the
relationship
between
those
two
mice
was
that
of
mother
and
son.
"Once
again
the
others
thought
for
a
while,and
felt
this
was
more
reasonable.
So
they
expressed
agreement
another
time.
At
that
moment,one
Chinese
asked:"Why
did
those
two
mice
have
to
have
a
certain
relationship?"Suddenly,the
group
looked
back
at
the
Chinese
and
remained
speechless.
The
American
official,the
French
and
the
Japanese
who
had
spoken
earlier
all
lowered
their
heads
in
shame,and
did
not
dare
to
answer.
In
fact,the
true
love
is
not
built
on
friendship,loyalty
or
blood
relationship.
Instead,it
is
based
on
no
relationship.

Paper
Moon
(12)
Paper,
pencil,
whiteboard,
textbook
are
the
tools
you
need
if
you
want
to
go
to
school.
But
recently,
you
can
add
another
one
to
the
list:
an
iPad.
Because
the
popular
Apple
tablet
is
not
only
useful
for
searching
the
Internet
and
watching
videos,
but
it
is
also
being
used
to
make
learning
fun.
Scientists
now
know
that
we
learn
better
when
we
are
enjoying
ourselves,
so
recently
software
developers
have
made
iPad
applications(应用程序)
that
look
like
video
games,
but
have
strong
educational
content.
One
of
the
best
examples
of
this
new
form
of
teaching
application
is
Futaba,
game
in
which
up
to
four
children
try
to
recognize
a
spinning旋转的)object,
and
then
identify
what
it
is.
The
game
can
be
used
to
teach
English,
math,
foreign
languages,
or
just
about
anything,
and
students
love
it.
Teachers
can
even
make
their
own
questions.
The
important
thing
is
that
children
enjoy
the
game,
and
don't
even
realize
how
much
they
are
learning!
So
the
next
time
you
have
to
choose
between
making
your
child
study
or
letting
them
play
game,
just
remember--they
could
do
both
at
the
same
time!

this
passage?

is
NOT
TRUE
according

the

My
mom's
life
was
a
busy
one.
Raising
four
kids
on
her
own
was
a
full
time
job
in
itself,
but
she
also
worked
outside
the
home.
Surprisingly,
she
always
seemed
to
find
a
little
bit
of
extra
time
for
us
despite(不管)
her
schedule(预定计划).
She
would
take
us
over
to
my
aunt's
in
the
evening
when
she
worked
as
a
waitress
in
a
small
diner.
We
would
just
be
finished
with
school
and
have
to
hurry,
so
my
mom
would
be
on
time
for
work.
I
thought
she
would
pass
us
over
to
our
aunt
and
hurry
off
as
soon
as
we
made
it
through
the
front
gate,
but
that
didn't
happen.
Instead,
we
would
sit
on
the
porch
(门廊),
my
mom
in
her
waitress
uniform,
and
we
would
rock
in
my
aunt's
big
wooden
swing
(秋-T
)
and
talk
about
what
happened
that
day.
"I
learned
how
to
add
numbers
up
to
the
hundreds,
"my
sister
Sandy
would
say.
"That's
wonderful,"
my
mom
would
reply,
holding
her
tight.
"I
learned
how
to
write
my
name!
"
Larry,
my
younger
brother,
would
shout.
My
mom
would
get
a
piece
of
paper
and
a
pencil
out
of
her
purse
and
hand
it
to
my
brother.
"Show
me
how
you
do
it,"
she'd
ask
softly.
"Do
you
have
enough
time
to
hear
what
I
did
today?"
I'd
ask
her.
Mom
would
smile
at
me
and
nod.
"I'm
never
too
busy
for
something
important
like
that!"
She
gave
us
the
gift
of
time
again
and
again
throughout
the
years.
Later
on
in
her
life,
when
she
came
to
live
with
us
after
her
retirement(退休),
my
mom
gave
the
gift
of
time
to
my
children
too.
They
would
run
around
excitedly,
asking
their
grandma
if
she
would
play
with
them,
or
read
them
a
.story,
or
go
for
a
walk
with
them.
By
then
my
mom
had
health
problems,
but
she
would
always
nod
and
sit
down
and
read
to
them
or
tell
them
stories
about
when
she
was
a
little
girl.
Those
moments
were
a
wonderful
gift
that
my
children
still
talk
about
and
treasure.
In
the
last
few
years
of
her
life,
I
would
take
her
to
lunch
or
sit
with
her
on
the
porch,
and
we
would
talk
about
the
past,
the
dream
of
the
future,
and
just
enjoy
being
with
each
other.
My
mom
would
listen
as
I
shared
all
of
my
hopes,
my
fears,
and
my
dreams
for
my
family.
I
would
look
at
her
and
ask
her
if
she
minded
me
taking
up
so
much
of
her
free
time.
"Nonsense,"
she'd
tell
me.
Then
she'd
give
me
a
wink
and
say,
"I'm
never
too
busy
to
spend
time
with
you.
It's
one
of
the
greatest
joys
of
my
life.
"
I
will
always
remember
those
wonderful
words
and
the
loving
heart
behind
them.
It
is
a
gift
my
mom
gave
to
me
for
which
I
will
forever
be
grateful.
In
this
busy
world
of
ours,
and
in
a
life
filled
with
challenges,
she
always
had
time
to
share
her
joy
with
me.

The
way
we
spend
our
time
can
be
divided
into
three
groups,
or
“jars”.
These
would
be
the
necessary
tasks
jar,
the
voluntary
tasks
jar
and
the
happiness
jar.
Every
day,
we
spend
time
filling
the
necessary
tasks
jar.
We
fill
this
jar
with
useful
things,
like
making
money,
housework,
buying
food
and
paying
bills.
We
then
fill
another
jar
with
voluntary
tasks.
These
are
things
that
we
do
for
others,
but
we
may
not
enjoy
them.
This
jar
is
filled
with
tasks
like
taking
children
to
activities
and
cooking
family
meals.
Those
jars
are
very
important.
If
we
don’t
fill
them
each
day,
our
family
won’t
run
properly.
However,
we
often
forget
to
fill
the
third
jar
---
the
happiness
jar.
This
is
the
jar
that
we
fill
with
activities
that
make
us
happy.
Is
your
happiness
jar
sometimes
empty
at
the
end
of
the
day?
We
all
have
days
like
that.
Between
doing
all
the
necessary
and
voluntary
tasks,
time
flies
by
on
some
days,
and
before
we
know
it,
it
is
time
for
bed.
That
is
why
each
day
we
try
to
fill
our
happiness
jar.
Most
days,
I
fill
mine
by
going
to
the
ballroom
dance(社交舞)
class
with
my
husband
and
daughter.
Between
the
music,
the
dancing
and
the
friendship
among
the
students,
I
always
leave
classes
happier
than
when
I
entered.
Music
is
another
way
that
I
fill
my
happiness
jar.
This
week,
I
was
happy
to
take
part
in
an
orchestra(管弦乐队)
practice
at
my
church(教堂).
A
small
group
of
us
met
to
practice
Christmas
music
for
a
church
service.
It
was
a
time
of
fun,
friendship
and
music
making.
At
the
end
of
the
evening,
my
happiness
jar
was
full.
This
week,
consider
how
your
time
is
spent.
Are
you
doing
enough
activities
that
bring
joy
to
your
life?
Or
are
the
necessary
and
voluntary
tasks
eating
up
all
your
time?
Try
to
find
ways
to
achieve
a
balance
between
how
you
are
filling
your
three
jars.
At
the
end
of
the
day,
hopefully
we’ve
done
all
we
can
to
make
sure
that
our
happiness
jar
is
filled.
1.
From
the

three
paragraph,
we

necessary
and
voluntary
tasks
are
more
important
than
happiness
B.
voluntary
tasks
are
those
we
do
for
others
with
pleasure
and
joy
C.
time
goes
quicker
when
we
do
the
first
two
tasks
than
the
third
D.
doing
the

often
leaves

A
habit
is
any
action
that
we
have
performed
so
often
that
it
becomes
something
that
we
do
almost
without
thinking.
Some
of
them
are
thought
to
be
bad
habits.
People
spend
countless
hours
and
dollars
each
year
trying
to
get
rid
of
these
bad
habits
but
often
fail.
Why?
Change
is
hard
work
and
there
is
no
shortcut
to
achieve
it.
However,
there
is
still
some
advice
for
you
to
follow.
First,
look
at
why
you
do
it.
In
other
words,
what’s
the
result
of
doing
this
thing?
If
your
bad
habit
is
shouting
at
people
when
you
are
unhappy
or
under
pressure,
what
do
you
get
from
it?
It
may
make
you
feel
a
little
better
for
the
moment.
Or
maybe
you
have
a
bad
habit
of
leaving
your
homework
undone.
The
result
could
be
that
you
get
more
time
to
spend
on
the
Internet!
Next,
take
a
look
on
the
other
hand.
What
are
you
losing
because
of
your
habit?
Shouting
at
other
people
is
a
bad
habit
because
it
makes
people
around
you
feel
bad
and
unhappy.
Leaving
your
homework
undone
is
a
bad
habit
because
you
may
be
punished
by
your
teacher.
Having
more
Internet
time
means
that
you
are
losing
the
chance
to
learn
the
things
that
you
need
to
learn.
When
you
think
that
way,
you’ll
find
that
it’s
not
wise
to
keep
your
bad
habit!

is
time
to
make
a
decision.
What
will
you
choose?
I’m
sure

Pediatricians(儿科医生)
recommend
that
kids
spend
most
of
their
time
being
active
outdoors
and
playing
with
their
peers.
However,
that
doesn’t
mean
TV
has
to
be
taken
out
of
the
picture.
There
are
several
educational
TV
shows
that
help
your
children
learn
before
and
after
they
enter
school.
Take
a
look
at
these
four
TV
shows
that
your
kids
should
watch.
Sesame
Street
As
one
of
the
longest
children’s
shows
on
TV,
Sesame
Street
is
still
a
favourite
with
parents.
It
teaches
kids
about
sharing,
being
a
good
friend,
and
other
important
values.
Additionally,
words
and
letters
are
introduced
through
fun
scenes
and
songs
with
favorite
characters
like
Elmo,
Big
Bird,
Zoey,
and
Cookie
Monster.
You
probably
enjoy
watching
this
show
as
a
kid,
and
your
children
can
too.
Sesame
Street
has
been
aired
on
PBS
since
1969.
Super
Why!
What
kid
doesn’t
like
a
superhero?
Well,
Super
Why!
Has
four
of
them:
Alpha
Pig
with
Alphabet
Power;
Princess
Presto
with
Spelling
Power;
Wonder
Red
with
Word
Power;
and
Super
Why
with
the
Power
to
Read.
This
TV
show
teaches
kids
how
to
put
letters
together
to
make
words
and
how
to
pronounce
words
when
reading.
It’s
great
for
kids
from
the
preschool
to
second
grade.
Plus,
several
companies
have
given
the
show
high
ratings
for
education
and
entertainment,
such
as
Common
Sense
Media.
Super
Why!has
been
aired
on
PBS
and
PBS
Kids
Sprout
since
2008.
Thomas
and
Friends
Based
on
the
railway
series
books
by
Reverend
Wilbert
Awdry,
Thomas
and
Friends
follows
the
story
of
locomotive(火车头)friends
who
live
on
Sodor
Island.
There
are
large
engines
and
small
engines,
and
the
story
examines
the
differences
and
focuses
on
the
strengths
of
each
individual.
It
teaches
kids
to
accept
others
for
who
they
are
and
always
do
their
best
in
everything.
After
all,
the
catchphrase
of
the
show
is
“I
think
I
can.”
Thomas
and
Friends
has
been
aired
since
1984.
However,
the
show
was
totally
redone
in
2003
by
ITV.
Arthur
Based
on
a
classic
chilren’s
book
series
by
Marc
Brown,
Arthur
is
about
an
8-year-old
boy
from
Elwood
City.
He
has
to
deal
with
several
circumstances
that
many
children
face
today.
For
instance,
the
show
explores
several
health-related
and
social
issues,
such
as
cancer,
dyslexia,
and
other
disabilities.
The
stories,
along
with
the
theme
song
“Believe
in
Yourself”,
teach
kids
how
to
deal
with
these
problems
and
accept
everyone.
Arthur
has
been
aired
on
PBS
since
1996.
The

Have
you
ever
read
stories
of
Sherlock
Holmes---a
famous
detective?
Here
is
one
of
his
cases.
Stapleton,
Charles’
younger
brother,
found
that
he
would
inherit(继承)
the
Baskerville
lands
if
Charles
and
his
nephew(侄子)
---Henry
both
died.
Charles
who
had
a
weak
heart
believed
super
natural
stories.
After
knowing
this,
Stapleton
had
the
idea
of
buying
a
huge
hound,
and
of
using
the
phosphorus(磷)
to
make
it
shine
like
the
hound
in
one
story.
Then
Stapleton
asked
his
friend
Laura
to
write
a
letter
to
bring
Charles
to
the
moor
gate
on
that
sad
night.
The
hound,
which
was
shining
with
phosphorus,
chased
Charles
down
the
Yew
Alley.
Charles’
fear
was
so
great
that
his
weak
heart
stopped,
and
he
died
but
the
animal
did
not
touch
the
dead
body.
There
was
no
sign
of
murder.
It
was
difficult
for
Holmes
to
find
the
murderer.
Two
weeks
later,
Stapleton
learned
that
Henry
had
reached
England.
He
took
his
wife
and
the
hound
with
him.
He
wore
a
false
beard
and
followed
Henry
in
London.
He
wanted
to
use
the
same
way
to
murder
Henry
there.
He
needed
something
to
give
the
hound
Henry’s
smell,
so
he
paid
a
woman
at
Henry’s
hotel
to
steal
one
of
his
shoes.
The
first
one
was
a
new
one,
which
was
no
use
for
the
hound,
so
it
was
put
back.
And
then
another
older
shoe
was
stolen.
Before
he
was
ready
to
murder
Henry,
he
wasn’t
sure
if
his
wife
would
keep
his
secret,
so
he
did
not
tell
her
the
truth.
He
locked
her
up
in
their
hotel.
She
knew
that
he
must
have
some
evil(罪恶的)
plans.
She
sent
Henry
a
letter
which
was
made
of
words
cut
from
a
newspaper.
After
receiving
the
letter,
Henry
realized
he
was
in
great
danger
and
it
must
have
something
to
do
with
his
uncle
Charles’
death.
So
he
asked
Holmes
for
help.

Your
brain
controls
everything
you
do.
It
makes
it
possible
for
you
to
think,
Learn,
create
and
feel;
to
blink(眨眼)
and
breathe
and
for
your
heart
to
heat
--this
fantastic
control
center
is
your
brain.
It
is
so
amazing
that
a
famous
scientist
once
called
it
"
the
most
complex(复杂)
thing
we
have
yet
discovered
in
our
universe".
Can
this
small
grey
organ(器官)
,
which
weighs
less
than
one
and
a
half
kilos,really
do
so
much?
Amazingly,
your
brain
contains
about
100
billion
neurons(神经元)
it
would
take
you
over
3
,000
years
to
count
them
all.
Believe
it
or
not,
the
activity
in
your
brain
never
stops.
Your
neurons
create
and
send
more
messages
than
all
the
phones
in
the
world.
And
although
one
neuron
creates
only
a
little
electricity,
all
your
neurons
together
can
produce
enough
electricity
to
power
a
light
bulb
(灯泡).
So
exactly
how
fast
does
your
brain
work?
Well,
imagine
this:
a
bee
lands
on
your
foot.
Neurons
in
your
skin
send
this
information
to
your
brain
at
a
speed
of
more
than
240
kilometers
per
hour.
Your
brain
then
uses
other
neurons
to
send
the
message
back
to
your
foot
to
shake
the
bee
off
quickly.
These
neurons
can
send
this
information
at
more
than
320
kilometers
per
hour.
No
computer
has
your
brain's
unbelievable
ability
to
deal
with
the
amount
ofinformation
coming
from
your
eyes,
ears
and
other
sensory
organs.
But
how
does
your
brain
allow
you
to
learn
things
that
you
will
use
in
the
future?
The
structure
(结构)
of
your
brain
changes
every
time
you
have
a
new
thought,
remember
or
learn
something.
For
example,
riding
a
bike
seems
impossible
at
first,
but
soon
you
are
able
to
do
it.
How?
As
you
practice,
your
brain
sends
"bike
riding"
messages
again
and
again
Soon,
the
actions
are
learnt
and
you
are
able
to
ride
a
bike
easily
from
then
on.
1.
From
the
passage
we
know
that
neurons________.
A.
receive
messages
very
slowly
B.
are
only
found
in
your
skin
C.
send
messages
to
your
brain
D.
need
electricity
to
work
2.
In
Paragraph
3,
the
writer
mentions
computers
to
________.
A.
compare
them
with
the
human
brain
B.
show
how
fast
they
have
become
C.
say
that
computers
have
no
abilities
D.
ask
people
to
use
computers
more
3.
When
you
have
a
new
thought,
________.
A.
your
brain
will
power
a
light
bulb
B.
your
heart
beats
faster
C.
you
remember
something
D.
the
structure
of
your
brain
changes
4.
The
article
is
mainly
about
________.
A.
all
the
steps
when
your
brain
learns
things
B.
what
an
unbelievable
organ
the
human
brain
is
C.
how
the
brain
makes
people
smarter
than

Who
is
the
greatest

Many
people
would
think
of
Confucius,
whose

28.
Although
he
lived
over
2,000
years
ago,
people
still
remember
and
respect
him
for
his
contribution
to
the
education
today.
Confucius
lived
in
the
Kingdom
of
Lu,
which
lies
in
Shandong
Province.
He
lived
during

started
the

in
Chinese

At

He

“When

three
people,
one
of
them
must
be
better
than
me
in
some
areas.
I
choose
their
good
qualities
and
follow
them.”
He
also
taught
us
that

is
very
important
in
study.
“All
study
but
no
thinking
makes
people
puzzled
(困惑的).
All
thinking
but
no
study
makes
people
lazy.”
Confucius
is
not
only
a
great
teacher,
but
also
a
famous
thinker
with
wise
thoughts
about
the
world
and
society.
His
most
important
teachings
are
about

and
good

“A

with
himself,
but
be
kind
to
others.”
he
said.

Stonehenge(巨石阵),
a
rock
circle,
is
not
only
one
of
Britain’s
most
famous
places
but
also
one
of
its
greatest
mysteries.
Every
year
it
receives
more
than
750,000
visitors.
People
like
to
go
to
this
place
especially
in
June
as
they
want
to
see
the
sun
rising
on
the
longest
day
of
the
year.
For
many
years,
historians(历史学家)
believed
Stonehenge
was
a
temple
where
ancient
leaders
tried
to
communicate
with
the
gods.
However,
historian
Paul
Stoker
thinks
this
can’t
be
true
because
Stonehenge
was
built
so
many
centuries
ago.
“The
leaders
arrived
in
England
much
later,”
he
points
out.
Another
popular
idea
is
that
Stonehenge
might
be
a
kind
of
calendar.
The
large
stones
were
put
together
in
a
certain
way.
On
midsummer’s
morning,
the
sun
shines
directly
into
the
center
of
the
stones.
Other
people
believe
the
stones
have
a
medical
purpose.
They
think
the
stones
can
prevent
illness
and
keep
people
healthy.
“As
you
walk
there,
you
can
feel
the
energy
from
your
feet
move
up
your
body,”
said
one
visitor.
No
one
is
sure
what
Stonehenge
was
used
for,
but
most
agree
that
the
position
of
the
stones
must
be
for
a
special
purpose.
Some
think
it
might
be
a
burial(埋葬)
place
or
a
place
to
remember
ancestors(祖先).
Others
think
it
was
built
to
celebrate
a
victory
over
an
enemy.
Stonehenge
was
built
slowly
over
a
long
period
of
time.
Most
historians
believe
it
must
be
almost
5,000
years
old.
One
of
the
greatest
mysteries
is
how
it
was
built
because
the
stones
are
so
big
and
heavy.
In
2001,
a
group
of
English
volunteers
tried
to
build
another
Stonehenge,
but
they
couldn’t.
“We
don’t
really
know
who
built
Stonehenge,”
says
Paul
Stoker.
“And
perhaps
we
might
never
know,
but
we
do
know
they
must
have
been
hard-working—and
great
planners!”
