Can you imagine a cloud floating in the middle of your room? Do you want to know what it feels like to fly like a bird? Find your answers in Time Magazine's 25 揃est Inventions. Here, we have picked out the most interesting 4 to share with you.
Talking Gloves
Ever felt confused by the sign language used by disabled people? Here is the "helping hand" you need. Four Ukrainian students have created a pair of gloves that helps people with hearing and speech problems communicate with others. The gloves are equipped with sensors that recognize sign language and translate it into text on a smartphone. Then the smartphone changes the text to spoken words.
Google Glasses
Google Glasses are like a computer built into the frame of a pair of glasses. With its 1.3-centimeter display, the glasses allow you to surf the Internet and make calls without even lifting a finger. The glasses also have a camera and GPS mapping system. Users can take and share photos, check maps and surf the Internet just by looking up, down, left and right.
Indoor Clouds
It's not virtual. That's a real world. Dutch artist Smilde managed to create a small but perfect white cloud in the middle of a room using a fog machine. But it required careful planning—the temperature, humidity(湿度)and lighting all had to be just right. Once everything was ready, the cloud formed in the air with the machine. But it only lasted for a short while.
Wingsuits
The suit fulfills your dreams of flying like a bird.Well, not exactly flying, but gliding(滑翔)through the air. It increases the surface area of the human body, which makes it easier for people to float in the air. Fliers wearing wingsuits can glide one kilometer in about 30 seconds.
21.Who will probably be the users of “Talking Gloves”?
A.Disabled people B.Normal people.
C.Trained people. D.Working people.
22.How can users of Google Glasses surf the Internet?
A.By moving the mouse. B.By tapping the keyboard.
C.By moving the eyeballs. D.By pressing the button.
23.Which of the following can help you fly?
A.Talking Gloves. B.Wingsuits.

There was a story many years ago of a school teacher--- Mrs. Thompson. She told the children on the first day that she loved them all the same. But that was a lie. There in the front row was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard. He didn抰 play well with the other children and he always needed a bath. She did not like him.
Then Mrs. Thompson got to know that Teddy was actually a very good boy before the death of his mother. Mrs. Thompson was ashamed of herself. She felt even worse , like all her other students, Teddy brought her a Christmas present too. It was his mother抯 perfume.
Teddy said, 揗rs. Thompson, today you smell just like my Mom used to. After the children left she cried for at least an hour. On that day, she stopped teaching reading, writing and math. Instead, she began to teach children.
Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy. The boy抯 mind seemed to come alive. The more she encourage him, the faster he improved. By the end of the sixth grade, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class.
Six years went by before she got a note from Teddy. He wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still the best teacher he ever had in his whole life. He went to college. Mrs. Thompson got two more letters from him with the last one signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, M. D.
The story doesn抰 end there. On his wedding day, Dr. Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson抯 ear, 揟hank you, Mrs. Thompson, for believing in me. You made me feel important and showed me that I could make a difference.
Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back, 揟eddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn抰 know how to teach until I met you.
24. What did Mrs. Thompson do on the first day of school?
She made Teddy feel ashamed.
She told the class something untrue about herself.
She changed Teddy抯 seat to the front row.
She asked the children to play with Teddy.
What did Mrs. Thompson find out about Teddy?
He often told lies.
He was good at math.
He needed motherly care.
He enjoyed playing with others.
Why did Mrs. Thompson feel even worse ?
Because her students didn抰 like her.
Because Teddy brought her his mother抯 perfume as Christmas present.
Because she was very ill.
Because she couldn抰 do well in her teaching.
In what way did Mrs. Thompson change?
She taught fewer school subjects.
She became stricter with her students.
She no longer liked her job as a teacher.
She cared more about educating students.
C
Parents and kids today dress alike, listen to the same music, and are friends. Is this a good thing? Sometimes, when Mr. Ballmer and his 16-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, listen to rock music together and talk about interests both enjoy, such as pop culture, he remembers his more distant relationship with his parents when he was a teenager.
揑 would never have said to my mom, 慔ey, the new Weezer album is really great. How do you like it?挃 says Ballmer. There was just a complete gap in taste.
Music was not the only gulf. From clothing and hairstyles to activities and expectations, earlier generations of parents and children often appeared to move in separate orbits.
Today, the generation gap has not disappeared, but it is getting narrow in many families. Conversations on subjects such as sex and drugs would not have taken place a generation ago. Now they are comfortable and common. And parent梒hild activities, from shopping to sports, involve a feeling of trust and friendship that can continue into adulthood.
No wonder greeting cards today carry the message, 揟o my mother, my best friend.
But family experts warn that the new equality can also result in less respect for parents. 揟here抯 still a lot of strictness and authority on the part of parents out there, but there is a change happening, says Kerrie, a psychology professor at Lebanon Valley College. 揑n the middle of that change, there is a lot of confusion among parents.
Family researchers offer a variety of reasons for these evolving roles and attitudes. They see the 1960s as a turning point. Great cultural changes led to more open communication and a more democratic process that encourages everyone to have a say.
揗y parents were on the 慴efore side of that change, but today抯 parents, the 40-year-olds, were on the 慳fter side, explains Mr. Ballmer. 揑t抯 not something easily accomplished by parents these days, because life is more difficult to understand or deal with, but sharing interests does make it more fun to be a parent now.
The underlined word gulf in Para.3 most probably means _________.
A. interest B. distance C. difference D. separation
29. Which of the following shows that the generation gap is disappearing?
A. Parents help their children develop interests in more activities.
B. Parents put more trust in their children抯 abilities.
C. Parents and children talk more about sex and drugs.
D. Parents share more interests with their children.
30. By saying 搕oday抯 parents, the 40-year-olds, were on the 慳fter side. the author means that today抯
parents _________.
A. follow the trend of the change B. can set a limit to the change
C. fail to take the change seriously D. have difficulty adjusting to the change
31. The purpose of the passage is to _________.
A. describe the difficulties today抯 parents have met with
B. discuss the development of the parent梒hild relationship
C. suggest the ways to handle the parent梒hild relationship
D. compare today抯 parent梒hild relationship with that in the past
D
揕et抯 give every child the chance to learn an instrument. This is one of the most exciting commitments (承诺) made in Jeremy Corbyn’s wonderful eve-of-election (选举前夕) speech in Colwyn Bay, north Wales. There is surely no greater gift for a youngster.
Yes, let them act and paint and write poetry, too, but learning to play music gives you access(通道) to other worlds. It is one of the greatest gifts, along with security and self-belief and simple love, that a child can be given.
Finland has one of the best education systems(制度) in the world, where teaching music and learning to play an instrument are very important. The principle(原则) is that a child is never too young to start a relationship with music; creative play is the key; children should be allowed to develop at their own pace and go into music as deeply as they wish. It is fantastically successful, and Finland has produced a stream of extraordinary musicians over the past 30 years.
Almost every other person you meet says one of their greatest regrets is that they didn’t learn to read music or play an instrument. That’s certainly true of me. Like a typical(典型的) parent, I tried to right this wrong done to me by getting my son to learn the piano. He had played for 10 years and got to grade seven. I’m not sure he ever particularly enjoyed it and doesn’t play now, but I hope he got something out of it. Not every child is going to become a Finnish-style musical superstar. Some, like my son, will drop away. But every child should, as Corbyn says, be given the opportunity. Why should it just be an extra-curricular activity for a small group of people?
Which is one of the Finnish education principles?
A. It aims at producing famous musicians.
B. children should be allowed to develop at their own pace.
C. Every student should create music works.
D. Children must study music as deeply as possible.
33. Why did the author first want his son to learn music?
A. To be a typical parent.
B. To make up for his own regret.
C. To equip his son for study abroad.
D. To discover his son抯 music talent.
34. Which of the following could reflect the attitude of the author?
A. The author takes pride in the achievement his son has achieved in music.
B. Only music can allow children an easier access to the world of beauty and love.
C. Due to the successful principles of education, Finland has witnessed a stream of extraordinary
musicians.
D. To be famous or not, children could get something through learning music.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Children can all become musical stars.
B. Children are never too young to learn music.
C. We should arrange more extra-curricular activities.
D. Every child should have access to music education.
