W:
John,
why
don't
you
watch
NBA
games
on
TV?
M:
Oh,
I'm
studying
for
a
Chinese
test
tomorrow.
(Text

M:
Where
is
Adam?
He
was
supposed
to
meet
us
here
half
an
hour
ago,
but
he
hasn't
come
yet.
W:
I've
just
phoned
and
we've
had
a
quarrel.
He
was
busy
with
the
contract
and
didn't
notice
the
time.
(Text
3)
M:
May
I
help
you?
W:
Yes,
I'd
like
to
apply
for
a
loan.
We
need
the
loan
to
build
an
addition
to
our
house.
M:
All
right,
I'll
give
you
an
application
form.
You
can
fill
it
out
here,
or
take
it
home
if
you
like.
(Text
4)
M:
Hello,
Kate.
Do
you
know
how
many
students
will
go
to
the
mountain?
W:
Our
monitor
said
that
the
whole
class
will
go
except
Tom.
He
has
something
urgent
to
do.
That
is,
20
students.
M:
Oh,
18
students
have
been
there
by
now.
(Text
5)
W:
Chris,
did
you
know
about
Gemma
Hudson?
Have
you
heard
that
she's
leaving?
M:
Really?
How
do
you
know
that?
W:
She
told
me.
She's
leaving
next
month.
M:
Actually,
I'm
not
surprised.
I
didn't
think
she
was
very
happy
working
here.
(Text
6)
W:
What
is
the
tall
building
over
there?
M:
It's
the
library,
which
houses
over
half
a
million
books.
It
also
has
computer
labs
and
quiet
study
spaces.
W:
And
the
building
next
to
it?
M:
That's
the
computer
center.
The
IT
facilities
are
really
advanced
there.
Some
of
its
classrooms
are
open
24
hours
a
day.
W:
Is
there
a
sports
center
on
campus?
M:
Of
course.
The
sport
facilities
are
excellent.
A
stadium
is
on
the
northeast
side
of
the
campus.
A
50?metre
swimming
pool
is
just
beside
it.
There
is
a
football
match
this
afternoon.
Let's
go
there
and
have
a
look.
(Text

W:
So,
do
you
like
watching
the
World
Cup?
M:
Um,
no.
I
can't
stand
it.
W:
Mmm,
I
hate
it
too.
But
I
want
to
watch
the
World
Cup
Final
this
weekend.
But
our
TV
won't
work.
M:
I
can't
play;
that's
my
problem.
If
I'm
not
very
good
at
a
sport,
I
don't
like
watching
it.
W:
So,
what
do
you
like,
then?
M:
I
play
golf.
W:
Oh,
right.
My
husband
plays
too.
I'm
not
interested
in
it,
though.
I
go
horse
riding.
M:
I'd
love
to
have
a
go
at
riding
if
I
have
time.
I
bet
it's
good
fun.
(Text

M:
So,
Sally,
we
should
probably
start
thinking
about
our
winter
vacation
plans.
W:
Yeah,
I
think
we
should
fly
down
to
Florida
for
a
couple
of
weeks.
M:
Uh,
I'd
really
prefer
not
to.
Those
holiday
travel
packages
cost
way
too
much.
W:
Well,
how
about
skiing
up
at
Sky
Valley
Resort
for
a
week
or
so?
M:
I'd
rather
not.
We
did
it
last
year.
Remember?
W:
And
we
had
a
really
good
time.
Do
you
have
any
suggestions?
M:
Umm...
you
know,
I
never
have
any
good
ideas.
W:
OK.
Here's
something
different.
How
about
going
to
the
New
Year's
Eve
party
in
New
York
City?
We've
always
wanted
to
do
that.
M:
But
I
don't
really
like
big
parties.
They're
always
crowded.
W:
You're
driving
me
crazy,
Tom!
All
right.
Let's
just
stay
home
for
two
weeks!
M:
No
way!
That
sounds
too
boring!
Can't
you
think
of
anything
else?
(Text
9)
W:
Andy,
are
you
busy
at
the
moment?
M:
Oh,
hi.
Well,
actually
I'm
expecting
an
important
call
from
the
office
any
minute
but
go
ahead.
W:
I'm
sorry,
but
it's
really
important.
It's
about
the
car.
It
was
broken
into
last
night...
M:
Oh,
no!
W:
I
want
to
know
if
you
saw
or
heard
anything.
M:
Did
I
see
anything?
Where?
W:
In
the
road.
Did
you
see
anybody
looking
suspicious?
M:
No,
I
don't
think
I
looked
out
of
the
window.
W:
Can
you
remember
if
you
heard
anything?
They
can't
have
done
it
completely
silently.
I
came
back
late
from
a
party
and
I
parked
it
at
about
11:30,
and
then
I
had
a
shower
and
went
to
bed.
M:
No,
I'm
sorry.
What
have
they
taken?
W:
Well,
this
morning
I
found
the
driver's
window
smashed.
There's
glass
everywhere,and
the
CD
player
has
gone.
M:
How
annoying!
Is
anything
else
missing?
W:
Well,
it
could
have
been
worse.
Luckily,
there
wasn't
much
in
the
car
anyway.

In
today's
lecture
we'll
begin
with
Doxey's
model
for
the
socio?cultural
impact
of
tourism.
He
identifies
four
stages.
He
identifies
the
first
stage
as
happiness.
Because
initially
the
tourists
are
regarded
as
a
new
and
interesting
thing.
As
tourist
development
begins
to
increase,
some
sections
of
the
local
population
become
involved
with
tourists
while
others
don't,
and
it
is
increasingly
the
case
that
commercial
rather
than
social
factors
are
influencing
relationships
between
tourists
and
the
host
community.
People
are
less
interested
in
the
tourists
for
their
own
sake.
This
is
identified
as
the
second
stage
by
Doxey.
If
development
continues
to
increase,
the
hosts
get
annoyed
with
the
tourists,
and
this
is
the
third
stage.
Well,
development
of
the
tourist
area
may
start
to
get
out
of
control,
which
is
going
to
make
life
difficult
for
local
people.
So
the
policy
makers,
the
government,
the
local
authorities,
and
so
on,
provide
more
roads,
more
car
parks
and
so
on
to
try
to
help
cope
with
the
coming
of
tourists.
But
the
lives
of
the
local
people
are
made
increasingly
difficult
and
in
the
final
stage
of
the
model,
the
hosts
show
unkindness
to
the
tourists.
A
Is
dark
chocolate
healthy?
Yes,
dark
chocolate
has
compounds
(化合物)that
offer
health
benefits
and
can
be
enjoyed
without
guilt,
even
on
a
daily
basis.
But
the
amount
matters,
since
too
many
bites
can
contribute
to
extra
fat,
sugar
and
calories
and
get
rid
of
its
health
benefits.
Dark
chocolate
is
rich
in
cocoa,
which
contains
compounds
known
as
flavanols(黄烷醇).
At
high
levels,
cocoa
flavanols
have
been
shown
to
help
lower
blood
pressure
and
the
risk
of
diabetes.
Dark
chocolate
has
the
highest
amount
of
cocoa
flavanols:
milk
chocolate
has
lens,
and
white
chocolate
has
none.
But
while
cocoa
flavanols
in
dark
chocolate
make
it
a
healthful
treat,_they
give
it
a
biter
flavor.
Producers
may
process
chocolate
to
make
it
more
delicious,
but
doing
so
can
remove
some
of
these
beneficial
compounds,
said
Matt
Hartings,
an
American
professor.
In
spite
of
this,
dark
chocolate
is
still
a
healthier
choice
than
milk
chocolate,
which
tends
to
have
more
sugar.
Additionally,
cocoa
powder
contains
minerals.
So
you
can
enjoy
a
piece
of
dark
chocolate
even
after
a
meal.
Just
keep
the
following
in
mind.
First
,
buy
chocolate
that
has
at
least
60%
cocoa.
“Generally
speaking,
the
higher
the
percentage,
the
more
flavanols.
These
higher?percentage
chocolates
have
the
added
benefit
over
the
lower
percentages
and
milk
and
white
chocolates
because
they
contain
less
sugar
and
less
fat,”
Hartings
said.
Second,
if
possible,
choose
natural
cocoa
over
Dutch
processed
cocoa,
which
is
treated
with
an
alkali
This
gives
chocolate
a
milder
flavor
but
removes
healthful
flavanols.
And
finally,
to
keep
weight
in
check,
limit
to
30
grams
of
dark
chocolate
daily,
or
about
150
calories.
21.Dark
chocolate
is
healthy
mainly
because
of
the
existence
of
________.
A.rich
minerals
B.less
sugar
C.cocoa
flavanols
D.fewer
calories
22.What
does
the
underlined
word
“treat”in
Paragraph
3
mean?
A.Something
enjoyable.
B.A
salt?free
diet.
C.Food
paid
by
others.
D.A
cure
for
an
illness.
23.What
can
we
learn
from
the
text?
A.Cocoa
flavanols
leads
to
high
blood
pressure.
B.White
chocolate
is
good
for
health.
C.One
can
feel
free
to
eat
dark
chocolate.
D.Alkali
can
affect
flavanols'
content.
24.What's
the
author's
purpose
in
writing
the
text?
A.To
show
his
love
for
dark
chocolate.
B.To
promote
the
sales
of
chocolate.
C.To
provide
facts
about
dark
chocolate.
D.To
make
a
distinction
among
chocolates.

B
It
was
Monday.
Mrs
Smith's
dog
was
hungry,
but
there
was
not
any
meat
in
the
house.
Considering
that
there
was
no
better
way,
Mrs
Smith
took
a
piece
of
paper,
and
wrote
the
following
words
on
it,
“Give
my
dog
half
a
pound
of
meat.”
Then
she
gave
the
paper
to
her
dog
and
said
gently,
“Take
this
to
the
butcher(卖肉者),
and
he's
going
to
give
you
your
lunch
today.”
Holding
the
piece
of
paper
in
its
mouth,
the
dog
ran
to
the
butcher's
shop.
It
gave
the
paper
to
the
butcher.
The
butcher
read
it
carefully,
recognized
that
it
was
really
the
lady's
handwriting
and
presently
did
as
he
was
asked
to.
The
dog
was
very
happy,
and
ate
the
meat
up
immediately.
At
midday,
the
dog
came
to
the
shop
again.
It
gave
the
butcher
a
piece
of
paper
again.
After
reading
it,
he
gave
it
half
a
pound
of
meat
once
more.
The
next
day,
the
dog
came
again
exactly
at
midday.
And
as
usual,
it
brought
a
piece
of
paper
in
the
mouth.
This
time,
the
butcher
did
not
take
a
look
at
the
paper,
and
gave
the
dog
its
meat,
for
he
had
thought
of
the
dog
as
one
of
his
customers.
However,
the
dog
came
again
at
four
o'clock.
And
the
same
thing
happened
once
again.
To
the
butcher's
more
surprise,
it
came
for
the
third
time
at
six
o'clock,
and
brought
with
it
a
third
piece
of
paper.
The
butcher
felt
a
bit
puzzled.
He
said
to
himself,
“This
is
a
small
dog.
Why
does
Mrs
Smith
give
it
so
much
meat
to
eat
today?”
Looking
at
the
piece
of
paper,
he
found
that
there
were
not
any
words
on
it!
25.When
Mrs
Smith's
dog
was
hungry,
what
did
she
give
to
the
dog?
A.Some
chicken.
B.Half
a
pound
of
meat.
C.A
hot
dog.
D.A
piece
of
paper
with
some
words
on
it.
26.From
its
experience,
the
dog
found
that
________.
A.only
the
paper
with
Mrs
Smith's
words
on
it
could
bring
it
meat
B.a
piece
of
paper
could
bring
it
half
a
pound
of
meat
C.the
butcher
would
give
the
meat
to
it
whenever
he
saw
it
D.Mrs
Smith

Smith
took
a
piece
of
paper,and
wrote
the
following
words
on
it...Then
she
gave
the
paper
to
her
dog...”
he
had
thought
of
the
dog
as
one
of
his
customers.”
found
that
there
were
not
any
words
on
it!”
at
the
piece
of
paper,he
found
that
there
were
not
any
words
on
it!”
C
There
are
few
creatures
in
the
world
as
elegant
as
the
bald
eagle(秃鹰).
That's
part
of
the
reason
why,
out
of
all
of
the
animals
in
the
world,
the
United
States
of
America
chose
the
bald
eagle
as
the
national
bird.
Unfortunately,
despite
being
beautiful,
brave,
and
fiercely
independent,
these
eagles
haven't
always
had
the
easiest
time
of
it.
Like
many
of
the
disappearing
animals,
these
creatures
have
suffered
over
the
last
century.
The
massive,
elegant
hunters
once
lived
all
across
North
America
before
their
populations
started
decreasing
sharply—largely
due
to
the
use
of
some
pesticides
In
fact,
researchers
estimate
that
in
the
1800s,
there
were
hundreds
of
thousands
of
these
birds,
but
by
the
1950s
there
were
fewer
than
1,000
of
these
beautiful
wild
animals
left.
But
just
when
things
were
looking
hopeless,
this
nation
banded
together,
and
decided
that
it
was
time,
once
and
for
all,
to
do
something
to
save
the
national
bird!
In
the
1940s,
an
act
was
put
into
place
to
protect
bald
eagles
from
all
forms
of
trapping
and
hunting.
By
1967,
the
populations
had
made
some
small
strides,
though
the
numbers
were
still
low
enough
for
the
bird
to
be
placed
on
the
endangered
species
list.
Then,
in
the
1970s,
the
United
States
made
the
biggest
step
towards
protecting
the
eagle
(and
countless
other
species)
by
banning
the
pesticide
DDT.
In
humans,
the
pesticide
DDT
is
poisonous
and
linked
to
cancer.
In
birds,
it
causes
eggshells
to
become
too
thin
and
the
bird
eggs
will
hatch
too
soon,
keeping
bird
populations
from
growing.
By
the
1980s,
a
group
of
fewer
than
1,000
birds
had
swelled
to
100,000
bald
eagles.
In
2007,
the
bald
eagle
was
removed
from
the
endangered
species
list,
indicating
how
completely
the
bird
has
recovered
in
the
past
50
years.
It
is
a
sign
that
the
bald
eagle
is
free
in
America
once
more.
28.What's
the
main
reason
for
the
sharp
decrease
in
the
bald
eagle
population?
A.Farmers'
hunting.
B.Habitat
destruction.
C.Pesticides
using.
D.Global
warming.
29.What
marks
the
biggest
step
to
protect
the
bald
eagle?
A.The
pesticide
DDT
being
banned.
B.More
young
bald
eagles
being
hatched.
C.The
approval
of
the
act
forbidding
hunting
bald
eagles.
D.Bald
eagles
being
placed
on
the
endangered
species
list.
30.The
author
develops
the
passage
mainly
by
________.
A.presenting
cause
and
effect
B.providing
typical
examples
C.comparing
different
opinions
D.following
the
time
order
What
is
your
favourite
colour?
Do
you
like
yellow,
orange
or
red?
__31__
Do
you
prefer
greys
and
blues?
Then
you
are
probably
quiet,
shy,
and
you
would
rather
follow
than
lead.
You
tend
to
be
a
pessimist.
At
least,
this
is
what
psychologists
tell
us,
and
they
should
know,
because
they
have
been
seriously
studying
the
meaning
of
colour
preference,
as
well
as
the
effect
that
colours
have
on
human

__32__
If
you
happen
to
love
brown,
you
did
so,
as
soon
as
you
opened
your

or
at
least
as
soon

__33__
A
yellow
room
makes
most
people
feel
more
cheerful
and
more
relaxed
than
a
dark
green
one;
and
a
red

brings
warmth
and
cheer
to
the
saddest
winter
day.
__34__
A
black
bridge
over
the
Thames
River,
near
London,
used
to
be
the
scene
of
more
suicides
than
any
other
bridge
in
the
area—until
it
was
repainted
green.
The
number
of
suicide
attempts
immediately
fell
sharply.
Perhaps
it
would
have
fallen
even
more
if
the
bridge
had
been
done
in
pink
or
baby
blue.
__35__
It
is
an
established
fact
that
factory
workers
work
better,
harder,
and
have
fewer
accidents
when
their
machines
are
painted
orange
rather

A.They

among
other
facts,
that
we
do
not
choose
our
favourite
colour
as
we
grow
up—we
are
born
with
our
preference.
B.On
the
other
hand,
black
is
depressing.
C.If
you
do,
you
must
be
an
optimist,
a
leader,
an
active
person
who
enjoys
life.
D.Light

but
more
active.
E.Life

moods—there
is
no
doubt
about
it.
G.The
rooms
are
painted
in
different
colours
as
you
like.

enter
for
sth.
48.B 空后的“these
making
friends
and
I
liked
being
49.A 下文的“public
election
along
the
way沿途。

Good

A
three?year

life.Is dark chocolate healthy? Yes, dark chocolate has compounds (化合物)that offer health benefits and can be enjoyed without guilt, even on a daily basis. But the amount matters, since too many bites can contribute to extra fat, sugar and calories and get rid of its health benefits.
Dark chocolate is rich in cocoa, which contains compounds known as flavanols(黄烷醇). At high levels, cocoa flavanols have been shown to help lower blood pressure and the risk of diabetes. Dark chocolate has the highest amount of cocoa flavanols: milk chocolate has lens, and white chocolate has none.
But while cocoa flavanols in dark chocolate make it a healthful treat,_they give it a biter flavor. Producers may process chocolate to make it more delicious, but doing so can remove some of these beneficial compounds, said Matt Hartings, an American professor. In spite of this, dark chocolate is still a healthier choice than milk chocolate, which tends to have more sugar. Additionally, cocoa powder contains minerals. So you can enjoy a piece of dark chocolate even after a meal. Just keep the following in mind.
