M:
Maria,
would
you
mind
getting
me
one
of
those
new
mobile
phones
while
you’re
in
Hong
Kong?
W:
Just
give
me
the
model
number.
M:
Thanks
a
lot.

W:
Mr.
Brown,
here
is
your
coffee.
M:
Thank
you.
Have
you
posted
the
letter
yet?
W:
I’ve
typed
the
letter,
but
I
haven’t
done
the
envelope
yet.

W:
Is
this
the
one
you
took
on
holiday,
Michael?
M:
Yes.
Here
I
am
with
my
wife
and
the
two
children.
The
weather
wasn’t
so
good
that
day,
unfortunately.
You
can
see
our
hotel
in
the
background.

M:
Did
you
find
it?
W:
Yes,
I
did,
in
the
end.
It
was
at
the
end
of
a
long
path.
There
wasn’t
another
house
in
sight.
There
was
a
small
forest
behind
it,
and
fields
on
either
side.

M:
When
I’m
at
the
library,
I
like
to
sit
at
the
long
tables
in
the
reference
section.
It’s
quiet
there.
W:
I
prefer
to
read
in
the
comfortable
chairs
in
the
history
area.
M:
But
there’re
always
too
many
people
talking
there.
Text

M:
How
can
I
help
you,
madam?
W:
Oh,
have
you
got
a
shirt
with
not
too
long
sleeves
and
a
slightly
bigger
collar?
M:
Err,
yes,
what
about
this
one?
W:
That’s
good.
But
the
color’s
wrong.
Have
you
got
one
with
a
much
lighter
color?
M:
Umm,
how
about
this
one?
W:
Yes,
I
like
light
blue,
but
I’m
not
sure
about
the
pattern.
Have
you
got
one
with
a
lot
more
pockets?
M:
One
moment,
here
you
are.
It’s
got
shorter
sleeves,
a
bigger
collar,
a
lighter
color,
more
pockets.
W:
Hmmm.
It
looks
nice.

W:
What
are
you
doing
at
the
moment
in
the
class,
Tommy?
M:
We
are
doing
some
projects
on
Europe.
We
have
to
choose
one
of
the
countries
that
belong
to
the
European
Union.
W:
What
country
did
you
choose?
M:
Oh,
I’m
doing
Austria.
We’ve
got
a
sheet
and
there’re
these
things
listed
and
we’ve
got
to
put
them
down
in
a
book
because
we’re
making
a
book.
And
we’re
guided
by
Mr.
Smith.
What
about
you?
W:
We’re
having
the
same
project
as
yours
and
we
have
the
same
instructor
as
yours.
I’m
doing
France
because
I
think
it
might
be
interesting.
But
not
many
people
have
got
anything
about
France.
M:
Have
you
found
out
anything
about
it
yet?
W:
Yeah.
I’ve
found
out,
like,
what
animals
they’ve
got.
And
I’ve
made
this
forest
thing.
It’s
quite
good,
actually.

M:
So
Hannah.
Is
there
any
really
good
holiday
that
you
remember?
W:
Well,
one
of
my
favorite
holidays
was
when
I
went
to
Greece
a
couple
of
years
ago
with
my
family.
M:
Wow.
How
is
it?
W:
Greece
is
a
very
beautiful
country.
Everything
is
so
white
and
the
beaches
are
so
beautiful.
M:
So
what
did
you
do
in
Greece?
W:
Mainly
I
just
relaxed
on
the
beach.
And
at
night
I
went
shopping
with
my
mum.
We
also
had
some
really
nice
food.
M:
Oh,
that
sounds
really
interesting.
How
long
did
you
stay
there?
W:
Four
days.
And
when
we
arrived
there
was
a
big
football
competition.
Everybody
was
so
happy
and
excited.
They
would
start
dancing
at
night.
So
my
brother
and
I
would
join
and
dance
with
them.
M:
Cool!
Did
you
go
to
see
any
of
those
matches?
W:
Yes,
I
went
to
see
one
match
with
my
dad
and
I
had
so
much
fun.
M:
Oh,
it
sounds
really
cool.
W:
Yes,
it
was
one
of
my
best
holidays.

W:
Honey,
please
don’t
go
too
fast.
I
must
look
at
the
map.
We
need
to
leave
the
freeway
at
the
next
crossroads.
M:
Where
does
that
go?
W:
Towards
Seattle.
After
that
we
should
go
left
at
the
first
crossroads.
And
here
is
the
crossroads.
It
says
Tacoma.
M:
That’s
the
way.
W:
Maria’s
house
is
still
quite
far.
We
should
turn
right
very
soon,
or
we’ll
be
late.
It
took
us
a
long
time
to
eat
and
get
ready.
Oh,
look,
there
are
some
road
repairs.
We’ll
have
to
take
a
different
way.
Don’t
go
straight.
Turn
right
instead
and
then
we
turn
left
again
at
the
bridge.
M:
I
hope
it’s
not
too
far.
W:
This
road
is
very
narrow.
Shall
we
go
back?
It
seems
the
road
goes
nowhere.
M:
No,
follow
the
directions.
There’s
a
sigh
ahead.
W:
Oh,
you’re
right.
Go
right
again
then.
Maria’s
road
is
on
the
left.
She
said
it
was
on
Orchard
Street,
number
29.
M:
Nearly
there,
honey.
We
won’t
be
late
—
I’m
sure
it’s
going
to
be
a
great
party
for
us
newly-married
couples!
Just
relax
and
wait
for
our
happy
time.

W:
Hello,
welcome
to
the
news
program.
The
size
of
fish
in
the
oceans
is
shrinking.
A
new
report
from
the
University
of
British
Columbia
in
Canada
states
fish
may
shrink
by
as
much
as
a
quarter
in
the
coming
decades.
That
is
mainly
due
to
global
warming.
The
research
team
conducted
tests
on
the
effect
of
rising
ocean
temperatures
on
the
size
and
number
of
over
600
kinds
of
fish
around
the
world.
They
concluded
that
most
fish
are
likely
to
shrink
in
size
by
14-24
percent
by
the
year
2050.
The
biggest
changes
will
be
seen
clearly
in
hot
areas.
There
is
less
oxygen
in
warmer
water
so
fish
cannot
grow
normally.
And
many
fish
will
move
to
cooler
waters
outside
hot
areas.
Researchers
were
surprised
to
see
such
a
large
decrease
in
fish
size.
Fish
in
the
sea
are
generally
known
to
reflect
climate
change
through
their
changing
positions.
Climate
change
could
have
the
unexpectedly
big
effect
on
body
size.
Researchers
may
be
missing
pieces
of
important
information
of
understanding
climate
change
effects
in
the
ocean.
Human
activities
such
as
overfishing
and
pollution
will
worse
the
problem.
Their
work
shows
a
very
worrying
future
for
the
oceans,
so
it
is
very
important
to
reduce
greenhouse
gas
and
develop
better
fish
management
policies
to
adapt
to
these
changes.2020

Binge-watching((追剧)your
favorite
TV
series
is
bad
for
your
brain.
Dr.
Randall
Wright,
based
in
Texas,
said
the
need
to
watch
episode
(集)after
episode
has
a
similar
influence
on
the
brain
to
gambling
(赌博).What's
more,
it
often
leads
to
social
loneliness,
snacking
on
junk
food
and
a
shortage
of
exercise
and
sleep,
which,
over
time,
is
bad
for
the
brain.
When
you
let
auto
play
start
the
next
episode,
you
can
find
out
what
happens
next
and
your
brain
receives
good
feedback.
Dr.
Wright
wrote
in
an
article.
This
right-away
satisfaction
is
similar
to
gambling
where
even
after
a
win,
you
are
not
satisfied
and
want
to
continue
playing.
With
binge-watching,
you
are
not
satisfied
with
stopping
after
episode
five
and
want
to
continue
watching.
This
cycle
coupled
with
the
snacking
and
the
long
time
sitting
can
lead
to
unhealthy
changes
in
your
brain
and
body
over
time.
Dr.
Wright
said,
"Binge-watching
itself
is
not
bad.
It
becomes
problematic
when
you
are
watching
a
third,
fourth
or
fifth
episode
instead
of
doing
healthy
activities."
But
he
said
it
is
possible
to
avoid
the
bad
influence
of
binge-watching
with
four
tips,
including
staying
away
from
salty,
fatty,
calorific
foods,
exercising
before
a
binge-watching,
setting
an
alarm
for
sleep
and
balancing
TV
viewing
with
socializing.
If
you
add
these
tips
to
your
binge-watching
practice,
you
can
create
lasting
healthy
habits
and
still
enjoy
the
now
—
and
—
then
binge-watching
time
without
hurting
your
brain.

The
immediate
satisfaction.
D.
The
snacking
on

What
is
paragraph

mainly
about?
A

The

Scientists
may
have
found
a
way
to
reduce
shortage
of
type

blood.
Type
O
is
the
kind
of
blood
that
hospitals
most
often
need.
What
the
researchers
are
testing
is
an
easier
way
to
make
type
O

out
of
other
kinds
of
blood.
There
are
four
main
kinds
of
blood.
Most
people
born
with
one
of
these
four:
Type
A,
Type
B,
Type

Type

Type
O
can
be
safely

So
it
is
commonly
used
when
a
person
is
injured
or
sick
and
has
to
have
blood.

is
the
most
common
blood
group.
But
the
supplies
of
it
available
in
hospitals
and
blood
banks
are
usually
limited.
This
is
because
of
the
high
demand
for
it.
Type
O
blood
is
used
in
emergencies
when
there
is
no
time
to
identify
the
patient's
blood
type.
Giving
A,
B
or
AB
to
someone
with
a
different
blood
type,
including
O,
can
cause
a
bad
reaction
by
the
person's
defense
system.
Their
immune
system
can
reject
the
blood.
This
immune
reaction
can
be
deadly.
The
differences
among
blood
types
are
linked
to
whether
or
not
red
blood
cells
contain
certain
kinds
of
sugar
molecules.
These
molecules
are
found
on
the
surface
of
the
cells.
They
are
known
as
antigens(抗原).These
antigens
are
found
with
type
A,
B
and
AB
blood
but
not
with
type
O.
More
than"
twenty-five
years
ago,
scientists
found
that
the
antigens
could
be
removed
to
create
what
they
called
universal-type
cells.
They
could
be
removed
with
chemicals
called
enzymes((酶).
But
large
amounts
of
enzymes
were
required
to
make
the
change.
Doctor
Henrik
Clausen
of
the
University
of
Copenhagen
in
Denmark
led
the
study.
The
next
step,
he
says,
is
to
complete
safety
tests.
The

company

it
could
become

widely
used
life-saving
tool
to
increase
the
supply
of
universal

28.
How
do

A
.
Develop

29.
What
make

30.
What
can
we

Nowadays
many
people
are
concerned
about
the
problem
of
what
to
do
with
electronic
waste
such
as
old
televisions,
computers,
radios,
cellular
telephones
and
other
electronic
equipment.
Electronic
trash,
or
e-waste,
is
piling
up
faster
than
ever
in
American
homes
and
businesses.
People
do
not
know
what
to
do
with
old
televisions
or
computers
so
they
throw
them
in
the
trash.
National
Solid
Waste
Management
Association
(NSWMA)
state
programs
director
Chaz
Miller
says
the
large
amount
of
electronic
waste
Americans
product
is
not
unexpected.
The
US
Environmental
Protection
Agency
(ERA)
estimates
more
than
400
million
consumer
electronic
items
are
dumped
each
year,
and
there
is
a
push
by
more
states
to
ban
the
waste
from
landfills
(垃圾填埋场)and
create
recycling
programs.
They
can
be
tom
apart
and
sorted
for
useable
parts.
Mike
Fannon
who
runs
the
plant
in
Baltimore
says,
“There
are
lots
of
valuable
metals
that
can
be
recovered
and
reused
instead
of
just
putting
them
in
the
landfill,
and
in
certain
components
there
are
some
materials
that
should
not
really
be
in
the
landfill."
Fannon
says
nearly
20
percent
of
electronic
waste
is
recycled
nationwide.
Thirteen
years
ago,
it
was
only
about
6
percent.
Recycling
rates
continue
to
rise
as
more
communities
have
banned
electronics
from
landfills
in
order
to
keep
e-waste
poisons
like
lead
(铅)and
mercury
(汞)out
of
garbage
dumps.
This
year
several
states
like
Vermont
imposed
a
ban
on
electronic
waste
in
landfills.
More
than
25
other
states
have
also
adopted
bans
on
e-waste
in
landfills.
Chaz
Miller
says
more
can
be
done
to
boost
electronic
waste
recycling.
“We
can
do
much
better,"
noted
Miller.
"I
think
clearly
our
goal
should
be
to
do
as
well
as
we
do
recycling
newspapers.”
32.
Which
of
the
following
does
NOT
belong
to
e-waste?
A.
Old
televisions.
B.
Old
computers.
C.
Old
cell
phones.
D.
Old
newspapers.
33.
Why
is
e-waste
banned
from
landfills
in
many
states?
A
.
Because
it
can
not
be
recycled.
B.
Because
the
landfills
are
already
full.
C.
Because
it
might
damage
the
environment.
D.
Because
it
can
be
shipped
to
other
countries.
34.
According
to
Mike
Fannon,
what
might
be
the
best
way
of
dealing
with
e-waste?
A
.
Burying
it.
B
.
Selling
it.
C.
Recycling
it.
D.
Breaking
it.
35.
What
can
we
learn
from
the
passage?
A.
Chaz
Miller
works
for
EPA
.
B.
Miller
is
optimistic
about
the
future
of
e-waste.
C.
At
present,
less
than
10
percent
of
e-waste
is
recycled.
D.
All
states
in

Traditional

Ever

Streaming?
For
a
long
time,
people
had
to
listen
to
the
radio
to
get
news,
drama,
and
music
at
home.
This
all
changed
with
the
development
of
the
television
in
the
early
20th
century.
36
.
Since
then,
British
TV
viewers
have
enjoyed
the
launch
of
commercial
TV,
the
addition
of
Channel
4,
and
then
Channel
5,
and
finally
the
birth
of
paid
services
through
satellite
and
cable.
A
Slow
Decline
While
the
uptake
of
TV
ownership
exploded,
the
decline
of
television's
dominance
has
been
slow
and
has
been
going
on
for
the
past
decade.

Changing
Viewing
Habits
In
the
UK,
adults
are
spending
more
time
watching
content
on
YouTube
and
streaming
services
than
ever
before.
In
2018,
these
figures
were
30.minutes
and
26
minutes
per
day
respectively.

For
example,
in
2018
UK
adults
continued
to
watch
BBC
One
for
an
average
of
41
minutes
per
day,
more
than
any
streaming
service.
Average
viewing

for
all
traditional
TV
channels
continues
to
decline,
though,
despite
much
larger
quantities
of
original
content
being
produced
by
these
organizations.
40
.
While
the
traditional
TV
networks
have
seen
a
decline,
the
television

itself
doesn't
look
like
it's

This
has
been
the

B.
The

C.
Suddenly,
we

what
was
going
on,
not
just

along.
D.
The
traditional
TV
channels
are
taking
away
audiences
from
streaming
services.
E.
Most
major
TV
channels
have

F.
While

is
up,

From

done,
a
good
learner
possesses
some
key
attributes(特质).I've
actually
found
some
quotes((引文)that
41
these
attributes.
The
first
quote
is
42
an
ancient
Chinese
proverb:
A
teacher
can
only
open
the
door.
You
must
walk
through.
Every
school
in
the
world
should
make
this
amazing
quote
its
43
.When
a
teacher
teaches
you
new
information,
she
is
opening
the
door
in
your
brain
to
that
new
knowledge.
However,
that
door
doesn't
stay
open.
Like
most
doors,
it's
44
to
close
within
a
short
period
of
time.
If
you
don't
pass
through
45
it
closes,
then
your
teacher
will
have
to
open
it
for
you
again.
But
there's
a
twist:
You
can
keep
the
door
open
longer,
even
without
your
teacher.
Good
learners
review
new
material
while
it's
still
46
in
their
brain.
If
you
don't
review,
then
it's
like
asking
a
teacher
to
open
the
door
and
then
standing
47
while
it
shuts
in
your
face.
You
and
the
teacher
will
both
feel
pretty
48
.
Just
like
becoming
fit
is
10%
working
out
and
90%
eating
right,
learning
English
is
10%
learning
new
information
and
90%
repetition.
You'll
never
get
49
if
you
don't
review.
Our
second
quote,
which
is
an
50
powerful
one,
comes
from
Peter
Drucker,
the
founder
of
modem
business
management
theory.
He
said,
"What
gets
measured
gets
managed."
Drucker
is
saying
that
if
you
want
to
manage
the
progress
of
something,
you
must
51
progress.
For
example,
"I
want
to
learn
English”
is
untrack-able,
uninspiring,
and
unrealistic.
As
a
result,
we
should
52
setting
such
goals.
Instead,
we
should
53
Drucker's
wisdom
and
make
our
goals
trackable,
such
as
“I
want
to
master
all
of
the
English
vowels((元音)
or
“I
want
to
learn
and
be
able
to
use
1000
English
words?"
54
.
you
should
set
a
period
for
achieving
it.
Don't
make
it
too
long,
or
you'll
lose
motivation.
4
weeks-3
months
is
usually
a
good
choice.
Imagine
learning
to
use
1000
English
words
in
conversation
in
2

Jenny
was
the
only
child
in
her
family.
She
had
a
quarrel
with
her
mother
that
afternoon
and
she
ran
out
of
the
house
angrily.
She
couldn't
help
weeping
sorrowfully
when
she
thought
of
the
scolding
from
her
mother.
Having
wandered
aimlessly
in
the
street
for
hours,
she
felt
a
little
hungry
and
wished
for
something
to
eat.
She
stood
beside
a
stand
for
a
while,
watching
the
middle-aged
seller
busy
doing
his
business.
However,
with
no
money
in
hand,
she
gave
a
sign
and
had
to
leave:
The
seller
behind
the
stand
noticed
the
young
girl
and
asked,
“Hey,
girl,
you
want
to
have
the
noodles?
"Oh,
yes,
but
1
don't
have
money
on
me,
"
she
replied.
"That's
nothing.
I'll
treat
you
today
”,said
the
man.
“Come
in."
The
seller
brought
her
a
bowl
of
noodles;
the
smell
so
attractive.
As
she
was
eating,
Jenny
cried
silently.
"What
is
it?
“
asked
the
man
kindly.
“Nothing.
Actually
I
was
just
touched
by
your
kindness!
”
said
Jenny
as
she
wiped
her
tears.
"Even
a
stranger
on
the
street
will
give
me
a
bowl
of
noodles,
while
my
mother
drove
me
out
of
the
house.
She
showed
no
care
for
me.
She
is
so
merciless
compared
to
a
stranger!"
Hearing
the
words,
the
seller
smiled,
“Girl,
do
you
really
think
so?
I
only
gave
you
a
bowl
of
noodles
and
you
thanked
me
a
lot.
But
it
is
your
mother
who
has
raised
you
since
you
were
a
baby.
Can
you
number
the
times
she
cooked
for
you?
Have
you
expressed
your
gratitude
to
her?"
Jenny
sat
there,
speechless
and
numb
with
shock;
she
remembered
her
mother's
familiar
face
and
weathered
hands.
“Why
didn't
I
think
of
that?
A
bowl
of
noodles
from
a
stranger
made
me
feel
indebted.
Why
haven't
I
thanked
my
mum
for
what
she
has
done
for
me?
"
On
the
way
home,
Jenny
made
up
her
mind
to
make
an
apology
to
her
mother
for
her
rudeness
as
soon
as
she
arrived
home.

应用文范文
Last
Sunday,
our
school
held
a
meaningful
activity
at
our
school
lecture
hall.
Mr.
Yu,
a
doctor
from
our
local
hospital
who
volunteered
to
Wuhan
this
spring
to
fight
against
Covid-19,
was
invited
to
deliver
a
speech
for
us.
All
the
teachers
and
students
were
deeply
moved
and
inspired
by
his
heroic
deeds.
At
the
end
of
his
speech,
we
showed
our
respect
for
Mr.
Liu
with
applause.
We
learned
a
lot
from
him
and
many
students
said
that
they
wanted
to
be
a
doctor
in
the
future.

Paragraph
1:
Approaching
the
doorway,
Jenny
took
a
deep
breath.
Tired
and
sad,
she
sat
down
in
front
of
the
house.
“Where
might
my
mother
be?”
she
wondered.
“Is
she
really
so
angry
with
me
that
she
doesn't
want
to
show
me
any
care?”
Again,
the
scene
of
the
quarrel
appeared
in
her
mind.
She
remembered
her
rudeness
to
her
mother,
and
she
just
realized
that
all
the
scolding
from
her
mother
was
due
to
the
fact
that
her
mother
really
cared
a
lot
about
her.
Tears
rolled
down
her
cheeks.
Paragraph
2:
A
gentle
touch
on
her
hair
called
her
mind
back.
She
raised
her
head
to
see
the
familiar
face
and
the
worried
eyes.
“Here
you
come!
I've
been
looking
for
you,”
came
the
tired
voice.
Jenny
couldn't
help
but
throw
herself
into
her
mother's
arms.
“I'm
sorry
and
thank
you
for
all
you
have
done
for
me.”
She
expressed
the
sincere
apology
and
the
great
gratitude.
Then
she
felt
the
hug
tightened.
