Ⅰ.阅读理解
Jane
Austen
(1775~1817),
one
of
England's
most
famous
novelists,
was
never
publicly
recognized
as
a
writer
during
her
lifetime.
Jane
Austen
was
born
in
Steventon,
Hampshire
and
she
was
the
second
daughter
and
the
seventh
child
in
a
family
with
eight
children.
She
was
mainly
educated
at
home,
benefiting
from
her
father's
library.
Her
closest
friend
was
her
only
sister,
Cassandra.
Though
Austen
lived
a
quiet
life,
she
had
unusual
access
to
the
greater
world,
mainly
through
her
brothers,
Francis
and
Charles,
officers
in
the
Royal
Navy,
who
served
on
ships
around
the
world
and
saw
action
in
the
Napoleonic
Wars.
As
a
child
Austen
began
writing
comic
stories,
now
referred
to
as
the
juvenilia
(少年时代作品).
Her
first
mature
work,
written
when
she
was
about
19,
was
a
novella
(中篇小说),
Lady
Susan,
written
in
epistolary
(书信体的)
form.
This
early
fiction
was
preserved
by
her
family
but
wasn't
published
until
long
after
her
death.
In
her
early
twenties
Austen
wrote
the
novels
Sense
and
Sensibility
and
Pride
and
Prejudice,
one
of
her
bestknown
novels,
which
was
finished
in
1797.
When
Austen
was
25
years
old,
her
father
retired,
and
she
and
Cassandra
moved
with
their
parents
to
Bath.
During
the
five
years
she
lived
in
Bath,
Austen
began
one
novel,
The
Watsons,
which
she
never
completed.
In
1811,
Austen
published
Sense
and
Sensibility,
which
identified
the
author
as
“a
Lady”.
Pride
and
Prejudice
followed
in
1813,
Mansfield
Park
in
1814,
and
Emma
in
1815.
For
some
reason,
all
of
them
were
published
not
using
her
name.
Austen
began
writing
the
novel
that
would
be
called
Persuasion
in
1815
and
finished
it
the
following
year,
by
which
time,
however,
her
health
was
beginning
to
fail.
Austen
died
on
July
18,1817
because
of
her
illness
and
a
few
days
later
she
was
buried
in
Winchester
Cathedral.

Some

England,
Mary
Anning

time

sold
her

to
get
money
to
support
her
family.
In
1891,
a
young
Polish
woman
named
Marie
Sklodowska

Paris
to
study
physics.
She
did
so
because
she
could
not
get
a

She
began
working
in
the
laboratory
of
a
man
named
Pierre
Curie.

and

got
married
and
made
many
discoveries
together.
They
received
the
Nobel
Prize
for
Physics
in
1903
along
with
another
scientist.
Marie
Curie
became
the
first
person
to
be
awarded
a
second
Noble
Prize
in
1911,
this
time
for
chemistry.
Marie
Curie
was

Florence
Nightingale
was
born
in
a
rich
family.
When
she
was
young,
she
took
lessons
in
music
and
drawing,
and
read
great
books.
She
also
travelled
a
great
deal
with
her
mother
and
father.
As
a
child,
she
felt
that
visiting
sick
people
was
both
a
duty
and
a
pleasure.
She
enjoyed
helping
them.
At
last,
her
mind
was
made
up.
“I'm
going
to
be
a
nurse,”
she
decided.
“Nursing
isn't
the
right
work
for
a
lady,”
her
father
told
her.
“Then
I
will
make
it
so,”
she
smiled.
And
she
went
to
learn
nursing
in
Germany
and
France.
When
she
returned
to
England,
Florence
started
a
nursing
home
for
women.
During
the
Crimean
War
in
1854,
she
went
with
a
group
of
thirty
eight
nurses
to
the
front
hospitals.
What
they
saw
there
was
terrible.
Dirt
and
death
were
everywhere
to
be
seen
and
smelled.
The
officer
there
did
not
want
any
woman
to
tell
him
how
to
run
a
hospital,
either.
But
the
brave
nurses
went
to
work.
Florence
used
her
own
money
and
some
from
friends
to
buy
clothes,
beds,
medicine
and
food
for
the
people.
Her
only
pay
was
smiles
from
the
lips
of
dying
soldiers.
But
they
were
more
than
enough
for
this
kind
woman.
After
she
returned
to
England,
she
was
honoured
for
her
services
by
Queen
Victoria.
But
Florence
said
that
her
work
had
just
begun.
She
raised
money
to
build
the
Nightingale
Home
for
Nurses
in
London.
She
also
wrote
a
book
on
public
health,
which
was
printed
in
several
countries.
Florence
Nightingale
died
at
the
age
of
ninety,
still
trying
to
serve
others
through
her
work
as
a
nurse.
Indeed,
it
is
because
of
her
that
we
honour
nurses
today.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
On
a
cold
windy
day,
a
poor
boy
tried
to
pay
his
way
through
school
by
selling
goods
door
to
door.
Wandering
on
the
street,
he
was
not
a
successful
seller.
What's
worse,
he
found
that
he
only
had
one
dime(一角硬币)
left.
His
empty
stomach
reminded
him
constantly
that
for
days
he
hadn't
eaten
anything.
He
had
no
choice
but
to
beg
for
a
meal
at
the
next
house.
Hesitantly
he
knocked
at
the
door,
thinking
about
what
to
say
when
it
opened.
However,
he
lost
his
nerve
when
a
lovely
young
woman
opened
the
door.
“What
can
I
do
for
you?”
asked
the
young
woman.
The
boy
paused
for
a
while,
and
then
said,
“Would
you
please
give
me
some...a
drink
of
water?”
The
boy
dared
not
to
look
directly
into
her
eyes.
She
looked
at
the
bony
boy
and
thought
he
might
need
something
to
give
him
energy
so
she
brought
him
a
glass
of
milk.
His
head
rising
and
small
hands
taking
the
cup,
he
drank
it
up
slowly,
and
then
asked,
“How
much
do
I
owe
you?”
“You
don't
owe
me
anything,”
she
replied
with
a
warm
smile
on
her
face.
“My
mother
has
taught
me
never
to
accept
pay
for
a
kindness.”
Deeply
moved,
he
said
sincerely,
“Then
I
shall
thank
you
from
the
bottom
of
my
heart.”
As
Howard
Kelly
left
that
house,
he
not
only
felt
stronger
physically,
but
it
also
increased
his
faith
in
God
and
the
whole
human
race.
As
a
matter
of
fact,
he
was
about
to
give
up
and
quit
before
that
point.
Years
later
the
young
woman
became
critically
ill.
However,
the
local
doctors
were
unable
to
give
the
effective
medical
treatment.
Finally
they
sent
her
to
a
hospital
in
the
big
city,
where
specialists
can
be
called
in
to
cure
her
rare
disease.
Among
those
famous
specialists,
Dr
Howard
Kelly
was
called
in
for
the
consultation.
When
he
heard
the
name
of
the
town
she
came
from,
a
strange
light
filled
his
eyes.
Immediately,
he
rose
and
went
down
through
the
hospital
hall
into
her
room.
答案
Paragraph
1:
Dressed
in
his
doctor's
gown,
he
went
in
to
see
her.
He
saw
her
lie
on
the
bed
and
recognized
her
at
once.
Her
lovely
face
looked
pale.
He
went
back
to
the
consultation
room
and
determined
to
do
his
best
to
save
her
life.
From
that
day
on,
he
gave
special
attention
to
her
case.
Luckily,
after
a
long
struggle,
he
won
the
battle.
Dr
Kelly
requested
the
business
office
to
pass
the
final
bill
to
him
for
approval.
He
looked
at
it
and
then
wrote
something
on
the
side.
Paragraph
2:
The
bill
was
sent
to
her
room.
Hesitantly
she
took
it.
She
was
afraid
to
open
it
because
she
was
sure
that
it
would
take
the
rest
of
her
life
to
pay
it
off.
Finally
she
opened
it,
on
the
side
of
which
a
note
caught
her
attention.
She
read
these
words,
“Paid
in
full
with
a
glass
of
milk.”
signed
Dr
Howard
Kelly.
Tears
of
joy
flooded
her
eyes
as
she
prayed
silently.
