(2020·江西)
In
2007,
Barrington
Irving
became
the
youngest
person
to
fly
alone
around
the
world.
He
was
just
23
years
old—and
he
built
the
plane
himself.
How
did
he
achieve
this?
Irving’s
interest
in
flying
started
when
he
was
15.
He
was
working
in
his
parents’
bookstore
in
Miami,
Florida.
One
of
the
customers
was
a
pilot,
Gary
Robinson.
One
day,
Robinson
asked
Irving
if
he
was
interested
in
flying.
Irving
didn’t
think
he
was
smart
enough.
But
the
next
day,
Robinson
took
Irving
to
an
airport.
He
showed
Irving
inside
the
cockpit(驾驶舱)
of
a
Boeing
777.
That
experience
changed
Irving’s
life.
Irving
really
wanted
to
fly,
but
flight
school
was
expensive.
To
achieve
his
dream,
he
worked
different
jobs.
He
washed
airplanes
and
cleaned
swimming
pools.
At
home
he
practiced
flying
on
a
video
game.
In
the
end,
he
got
enough
money
for
flight
school.
At
flight
school,
Irving
achieved
his
dream
of
learning
how
to
fly.
But
he
wasn’t
finished.
Next,
he
planned
to
build
his
own
plane
and
fly
alone
around
the
world.
Building
the
plane
was
difficult.
Irving
asked
more
than
50
companies
for
airplane
parts.
Most
said
no,
but
he
persisted(顽强地坚持)
in
asking.
Three
years
later,
he
had
parts
worth
$300,
000.
Columbia,
an
airplane
company,
agreed
to
build
a
plane
using
the
parts.
Soon,
his
airplane
was
ready
to
fly.
On
March
23,
2007,
Irving
began
his
round-the-world
trip.
After
97
days—with
145
hours
in
the
air—he
landed
back
in
Miami.
A
cheering
crowd
of
people
was
there
to
welcome
him.
Irving
saw
many
young
people
in
the
crowd,
and
this
had
a
powerful
effect(影响)
on
him.
He
wanted
to
use
his
experience
to
help
other
young
people
achieve
their
own
dreams.
“Everyone
told
me
what
I
couldn’t
do,

says
Irving.
“They
said
I
was
too
young,
that
I
didn’t
have
enough
money.
But
even
if
no
one
believes
in
your
dream,

he
says,
“you
have
to
pursue(追求)
it.

One
day,
Anna
Du
was
walking
along
Castle
Island’s
bench.
She
found
there
were
lots
of
plastic
pieces
in
the
sea
and
some
were
too
small
to
pick
up.
She
began
to
think
about
how
to
solve
the
problem.
First,
she
did
a
survey.
The
result
showed
there
were
already
150
million
tons
of
plastic
in
the
sea,
and
every
year
there
would
be
another
8
million
tons.
She
realized
something
must
be
done.
So
she
decided
to
invent
a
robot
that
could
work
under
water.
She
tried
again
and
again.
At
Last
her
ROV
came
out.
It
could
move
through
water
and
pick
up
plastic
pieces,
especially
the
tiny
ones.
With
this
ROV,
Anna
Du
took
part
in
the
Broadcom
Masters
competition

for
young

interested
in
the
competition,
but
only
a
few
got
the
chance.
Anna
Du’s
ROV
caught
a
lot
of
attention.
It
had
a
camera
with
three
different
kinds
of
lights
which
could
find
plastic
pieces
easily.
Dana
Yoerger,
an
expert,
said,

is
nicely

building
things.
I
think
many
world
problems
can
be
solved
with
new
inventions.

now,
I’m
just
caring
about
plastic

The
other
day,
I
was
shopping
at
a
store
and
a
lady
was
looking
for
something
on
the
bottom
shelf.
When
she
saw
me,
she
quickly
got
up
as
if
to
get
out
of
my
way.
She
was
very
sorry
and
explained
that
she
was
a
cashier(收银员)at
a
nearby
store.
She
was
on
her
lunch
break
and
was
only
trying
to
buy
a
few
things.
I
said,
“I
am
in
no
hurry.
Go
ahead
and
do
what
you
need
to
do.
I
have
a
lot
of
time.

While
she
was
looking
for
something,
she
said
that
customers
at
the
store
were
sometimes
impolite
to
her
and
she
was
really
thankful
for
my
kindness.
I
told
her
that
I
had
noticed
cashiers
were
often
treated
badly
by
some
people
and
that
those
people
needed
to
be
more
understanding.
It
is
stressful
for
cashiers
when
people
are
staring
at
them.
The
customers
don’t
understand
that
the
cashiers
are
doing
the
best
that
they
can.
I
explained
to
her
that
I
was
a
nurse
and
understood
her.
Sometimes
patients,
their
family
members
would
be
very
impolite
to
me.
I
tried
my
best
to
understand
why
they
were
feeling
that
way
and
then
let
it
go.
She
thanked
me
a
lot.
I
told
her,
“The
world
will
be
a
better
place
if
we
all
act
kindly
toward
each
other.
Those
people
just
don’t
realize
that
their
actions
have
an
influence.
You
have
thoughts
and
feelings,
too.

She
nodded
and
seemed
pleased
with
what
I
thought.
She
asked,
“So
how
would
you
do
with
the
people
who
were
impolite
to
you?

“I
would
just
smile.
Then
I
would
tell
them
that
I
was
doing
the
best
that
I
could.
I
wouldn’t
let
it
influence
me.
They
were
probably
just
having
a
bad
day.

I
replied.
“Thank
you,

she
said
with
a
big
smile,
“I
really
needed
to
hear
that
today.

It’s
very
good
that
I
may
have
helped
her
feel
more
comfortable,
even
if
only
for
a
few
seconds.
I
showed
her
that
there
are
good
and
kind
people
in
the

I
hope
she
remembers
our
conversation
like
I
do,

her.

Our
house
was
across
the
street
from
a
big
hospital,
so
we
rented
our
empty
upstairs
rooms
to
outpatients.
One
evening,
there
was
a
knock
at
the
door.
I
opened
it
to
see
a
truly
sick-looking
man.
His
face
looked
terrible—it
was
swollen(肿胀的)
and
red.
Yet
his
voice
was
pleasant.
He
told
me
that
he
came
for
treatment
and
that
he’d
been
hunting
for
a
spare
room
since
noon,
but
no
one
would
give
him
one
because
of
his
face.
For
a
moment
I
hesitated,
but
he
said
he
would
be
happy
to
just
sleep
on
our
steps.
I
agreed.
The
old
man
had
a
huge
heart
inside
his
tiny
body.
He
told
me
that
he
fished
for
a
living
to
support
his
daughter,
his
five
children,
and
his
disabled
wife.
He
didn’t
complain
while
telling
me
his
story.
He
was
grateful
that
he
didn’t
feel
any
pain
from
his
disease,
which
was
seemingly
a
form
of
skin
cancer.
The
next
morning,
he
said,
“Can
I
come
back
and
stay
the
next
time
I
need
treatment?

I
told
him
he

perhaps

I

from
him
we
learned
what
it
was
to
accept
the
bad
without
complaint
and
the
good
with
thankfulness.

upon
a

the
colors
in

started
to
argue.
All
thought
they

Blue
followed,
“You

the

Yellow
smiled,
“I

Orange
continued,

Red
shouted
out,
“I’m

So
nobody

Purple
stood
up,
“I’m

They
just
listen

follow.

Finally,
indigo(靛青色)
spoke
slowly,
“I

Yet
all

them.

Suddenly,

down.
The

all

in
fear.
Rain
began
to
speak,
“Join

The

did
as

Rain
added,

When
4-year-old
British
royal
family
member
Prince
George
started
his
first
day
of
school
in
September,
Chinese
language
was
one
of
his
subjects.
And
he
wasn’t
alone.
According
to
a
report
published
by
the
British
Council
in
September,
about
51
percent
of
UK
parents
want
their
children
to
learn
Chinese,
as
it’s
believed
to
be
one
of
the
most
useful
languages
to
know.
Yet,
the
UK
isn’t
the
only
country
showing
a
growing
interest
in
Chinese.
Nowadays,
middle
school
students
in
Russia
can
take
Chinese
as
an
elective
language
test
in
the
country’s
national
college
entrance
exam,
Sputnik
News
reported.
And
many
English-speaking
countries
have
encouraged
their
students
to
learn
Chinese.
The
US
government
started
a
program
called
“1
Million
Strong”in
2015,
a
plan
that
aims
to
bring
the
total
number
of
learners
of
Chinese
to
1
million
by
2020.
The
language
has
become
the
second
most
spoken
foreign
language
in
the
United
States
this
year,
only
after
Spanish
with
over
2.
1
million
speakers,
according
to
a
survey
by
a
US
news
website.
So
far,
67
countries
and
regions
have
included
Chinese
in
their
national
teaching
plans,
reported
the
China
News
Website.
So
why
are
so
many
countries
learning
Chinese?
There
are
many
reasons.
One
of
them
could
be
that
as
China
continues
to
develop
rapidly,
Chinese
is
becoming
a
useful
tool
for
people’s
personal
and
professional
growth.
“I
think
everyone
believes
that
China
will
be
the
next
great
superpower,
”a
student
from
Canada,
who
studied
at
Renmin
University
of
China,
told
Xinhua
News
Agency.
“And
learning
Chinese
is
the
best
way
to
make
sure
that
you
can
be
part
of
that
growth.

Indeed,
it’s
as
the
former
president
of
South
Africa
Nelson
Mandela
put
it,
“If
you
talk
to
a
man
in
a
language
he
understands,
that
goes
to
his
head.
If
you
talk
to
him
in
his
own
language,
that
goes
to
his
heart.

Are
you
interested
in
science?
How
do
you
think
scientists
usually
make
new
discoveries?
The
world
produces
millions
of
tons
of
plastic
wastes
every
year.
What
do
you
think
the
best
way
to
deal
with
plastic
pollution
is?
Why?
Caterpillars(毛虫)are
often
used
as
food
for
fishing.
However,
they
are
now
set
to
join
the
war
on
plastic
wastes.
Federica
Bertocchini
is
a
scientist
with
the
Spanish
National
Research
Council.
When
she’s
not
working
in
her
lab,
Bertocchini
keeps
bees.
One
day,
when
she
looked
at
her
beehives(蜂箱),
she
found
lots
of
caterpillars
which
were
called
waxworms(蜡虫).
They
are
often
used
to
feed
fish.
In
the
wild,
however,
they
live
in
beehives,
feeding
on
the
wax
that
bees
use
to
build
their
houses.
Bertocchini
picked
out
the
caterpillars
and
put
them
in
a
plastic
bag.
Surprisingly,
when
she
returned
to
the
bag
after
cleaning
out
the
hives,
she
found
it
full
of
holes.
The
worms
had
eaten
their
way
out.
Bertocchini
doesn’t
study
plastic.
However,
you
can’t
keep
a
good
scientist
away
from
an
interesting
question:
Were
the
waxworms
digesting(消化)the
plastic?
Bertocchini
got
in
touch
with
Paolo
Bombeli
and
Christopher
Howe
at
the
university
of
Cambridge.
According
to
their
paper,
some
chemicals
within
the
insects
can
really
break
down
plastic.
Other
scientists
have
also
discovered
plastic-eating
species(物种).
In
2016,
for
example,
a
Japanese
team
found
a
bacterium(细菌).
The
bacterium
has
to
spend
more
than
six
months
eating
a
layer
(层)of
plastic
bag.
However,
Bertocchini
and
her
partners
discovered
that
it
took
a
waxworm
about
12
hours
to
eat
a
layer
of
plastic
bag.
But
the
scientists
reminded
that
it
would
be
at
least
several
years
before
they
set
free
waxworms
into
the
environment.
They
want
to
know
if
the
waxworms
are
using
the
plastic
as
a
food,
or
just
they
want
to
run
away.
If
they
just
want
to
run
away
they
are
going
to
get
fed
very
soon.
But
if
they
want
to
eat
it
as
food,
it’s
a
completely
different
game.
“It’s
certainly
not
going
to
be
the
case
that
within
six
months
we’ve
solved
the
world’s
plastic
problem,
”said
Howe.
“I
wouldn’t
want
people
to
think
that
within
a
few
months,
they
can
start
throwing
away
plastic
bags
without
worrying
about
it.

for
the
unusual
situation.
February
29th
is
called
a
leap
day.
And
the
year
with
a
February
29th
in
it
is
called
a
leap
year.
This
year,
2020,
is
such
a
year.
As
a
verb,
the
word
“leap”
means
to
jump,
or
to
move
quickly.
“Leap”
can
also
be
a
noun,
meaning
a
jump,
or
a
sudden
move.
In
a
leap
year,
the
dates
jump
over
one
day
of
the
week.
Let
me
explain.
In
2017,
the
last
day
of
the
year,
December
31st,
fell
on
a
Sunday.
In
2018,
it
fell
on
a
Monday.
In
2019,
it
fell
on
a
Tuesday.
But
in
2020,
December
31st
will
fall
on
a
Thursday.
It
jumps
right
over
Wednesday.
The
reason
for
a
leap
day
or
a
leap
year
is
because
our
calendar
does
not
follow
the
Earth’s
orbit
(轨道)
around
the
sun
exactly.
Each
year,
we
have
a
little
time
left
over.
So
every
four
years,
we
put
all
that
time
together
into
an
extra
(额外的)
day.
Some
people
choose
to
marry
on
February
29th
because
it
is
an
unusual
date.
But
some
ancient
peoples
would
likely
tell
couples
not
to
do
it.
Leap
years
were
believed
to
be
difficult,
and
leap
days
were
unlucky.
To
be
honest,
these
have
no
scientific
basis
(依据).

Comfort
Zone
is
a
state
of
mind
where
there
is
the
least
stress
(压力).
However,
stepping
into
the
learning
zone
can
help
to
bring
out
the
best
in
us.
Here
are
the
reasons.
▲Challenging
yourself
can
help
you
do
at
your
best.
Stepping
outside
one’s
comfort
zone
is
important
to
personal
development.
How
can
we
expect
to
make
ourselves
better
if
we
only
stick
to
habit
and
routine
(日
常)?
We
should
try
something
we
might
not
succeed
at.
▲Taking
risks
is
what
helps
us
grow.
As
children,
we’re
natural
risk-takers.
But
as
we
get
older
and
learn
to
fear
failure
(失败),
we
start
trying
fewer
new
things.
We
pay
a
heavy
price
for
our
fear
of
failure.
There
is
no
learning
without
some
difficulty.
▲Facing
new
challenges
can
help
us
age
better.
Our
comfort
zones
seem
to
become
smaller
as
we
get
older
but
if
we
can
keep
expanding
them,
we’ll
open
ourselves
up
to
a
greater
world
as
we
age.
As
we
step
into
the
learning
zone,
we
will
get
more
comfortable
with
the
skills
gradually
and
we’ll
start
to
move
into
the
comfort
zone.
A
study
found
that
learning
new
life
skills
can
help
our
brain
stay
sharp
(敏锐的)as
we
get
older.
However,
don’t
push
yourself
too
far.
Have
you
heard
of
“Yerkes-Dodson
Law”?
It
means
performance
increases
as
stress
grows,
but
only
up
to
a
point.
If
the
level
of
stress
becomes
too
high,
performance
will
go
down.
When
stress
becomes
too
great
for
us
to
deal
with,
we
enter
the
danger
zone.
(
)1.
Compared
with
the
comfort
zone,
people
in
the
learning
zone
may______.
?
A.
feel
less
stress
B.
face
more
challenges
C.
make
fewer
efforts
D.
refuse
more
changes
(

From
Paragraph

we

A.

B
(2020·江西)
In
2007,
Barrington
Irving
became
the
youngest
person
to
fly
alone
around
the
world.
He
was
just
23
years
old—and
he
built
the
plane
himself.
How
did
he
achieve
this?
Irving’s
interest
in
flying
started
when
he
was
15.
He
was
working
in
his
parents’
bookstore
in
Miami,
Florida.
One
of
the
customers
was
a
pilot,
Gary
Robinson.
One
day,
Robinson
asked
Irving
if
he
was
interested
in
flying.
Irving
didn’t
think
he
was
smart
enough.
But
the
next
day,
Robinson
took
Irving
to
an
airport.
He
showed
Irving
inside
the
cockpit(驾驶舱)
of
a
Boeing
777.
That
experience
changed
Irving’s
life.
Irving
really
wanted
to
fly,
but
flight
school
was
expensive.
To
achieve
his
dream,
he
worked
different
jobs.
He
washed
airplanes
and
cleaned
swimming
pools.
At
home
he
practiced
flying
on
a
video
game.
In
the
end,
he
got
enough
money
for
flight
school.
At
flight
school,
Irving
achieved
his
dream
of
learning
how
to
fly.
But
he
wasn’t
finished.
Next,
he
planned
to
build
his
own
plane
and
fly
alone
around
the
world.
Building
the
plane
was
difficult.
Irving
asked
more
than
50
companies
for
airplane
parts.
Most
said
no,
but
he
persisted(顽强地坚持)
in
asking.
Three
years
later,
he
had
parts
worth
$300,
000.
Columbia,
an
airplane
company,
agreed
to
build
a
plane
using
the
parts.
Soon,
his
airplane
was
ready
to
fly.
On
March
23,
2007,
Irving
began
his
round-the-world
trip.
After
97
days—with
145
hours
in
the
air—he
landed
back
in
Miami.
A
cheering
crowd
of
people
was
there
to
welcome
him.
Irving
saw
many
young
people
in
the
crowd,
and
this
had
a
powerful
effect(影响)
on
him.
He
wanted
to
use
his
experience
to
help
other
young
people
achieve
their
own
dreams.
“Everyone
told
me
what
I
couldn’t
do,

says
Irving.
“They
said
I
was
too
young,
that
I
didn’t
have
enough
money.
But
even
if
no
one
believes
in
your
dream,

he
says,
“you
have
to
pursue(追求)
it.

She

there
were
lots
of
plastic
pieces
in
the
sea
and
some
were

She
began
to

about
how

problem.
First,
she
did
a
survey.
The
result
showed
there

tons
of
plastic
in
the
sea,
and
every
year
there
would
be
another
8

tons.
She
realized
something

done.
So
she
decided
to
invent
a
robot
that
could
work

water.
She
tried
again
and
again.
At

her
ROV
came
out.
It
could
move
through
water
and
pick
up
plastic
pieces,
especially
the
tiny
ones.
With
this
ROV,
Anna
Du
took
part
in
the
Broadcom
Masters
competition

one
of
the
top
STEM
competitions.

for
young

interested
in
the
competition,

only
a
few
got
the
chance.
Anna
Du’s
ROV
caught
a
lot
of
attention.
It
had
a
camera
with
three
different
kinds
of
lights
which
could
find
plastic
pieces
easily.
Dana

The
other
day,
I
was
shopping
at
a
store
and
a
lady
was
looking
for
something
on
the
bottom
shelf.
When
she
saw
me,
she
quickly
got
up
as
if
to
get
out
of
my
way.
She
was
very
sorry
and
explained
that
she
was
a
cashier(收银员)at
a
nearby
store.
She
was
on
her
lunch
break
and
was
only
trying
to
buy
a
few
things.
I
said,
“I
am
in
no
hurry.
Go
ahead
and
do
what
you
need
to
do.
I
have
a
lot
of
time.

While
she
was
looking
for
something,
she
said
that
customers
at
the
store
were
sometimes
impolite
to
her
and
she
was
really
thankful
for
my
kindness.
I
told
her
that
I
had
noticed
cashiers
were
often
treated
badly
by
some
people
and
that
those
people
needed
to
be
more
understanding.
It
is
stressful
for
cashiers
when
people
are
staring
at
them.
The
customers
don’t
understand
that
the
cashiers
are
doing
the
best
that
they
can.
I
explained
to
her
that
I
was
a
nurse
and
understood
her.
Sometimes
patients,
their
family
members
would
be
very
impolite
to
me.
I
tried
my
best
to
understand
why
they
were
feeling
that
way
and
then
let
it
go.
She
thanked
me
a
lot.
I
told
her,
“The
world
will
be
a
better
place
if
we
all
act
kindly
toward
each
other.
Those
people
just
don’t
realize
that
their
actions
have
an
influence.
You
have
thoughts
and
feelings,
too.

She
nodded
and
seemed
pleased
with
what
I
thought.
She
asked,
“So
how
would
you
do
with
the
people
who
were
impolite
to
you?

“I
would
just
smile.
Then
I
would
tell
them
that
I
was
doing
the
best
that
I
could.
I
wouldn’t
let
it
influence
me.
They
were
probably
just
having
a
bad
day.

I
replied.
“Thank
you,

she
said
with
a
big
smile,
“I
really
needed
to
hear
that
today.

It’s
very
good
that
I
may
have
helped
her
feel
more
comfortable,
even
if
only
for
a
few
seconds.
I
showed
her
that
there
are
good
and
kind
people
in
the
world.
I
hope
she
remembers
our
conversation
like
I
do,
especially
if
someone
is
impolite
to
her.

(湖州市2020年中考全真模拟)
Our
house
was
across
the
street
from
a
big
hospital,
so
we
rented
our
empty
upstairs
rooms
to
outpatients.
One
evening,
there
was
a
knock
at
the
door.
I
opened
it
to
see
a
truly
sick-looking
man.
His
face
looked
terrible—it
was
swollen(肿胀的)
and
red.
Yet
his
voice
was
pleasant.
He
told
me
that
he
came
for
treatment
and
that
he’d
been
hunting
for
a
spare
room
since
noon,
but
no
one
would
give
him
one
because
of
his
face.
For
a
moment
I
hesitated,
but
he
said
he
would
be
happy
to
just
sleep
on
our
steps.
I
agreed.
The
old
man
had
a
huge
heart
inside
his
tiny
body.
He
told
me
that
he
fished
for
a
living
to
support
his
daughter,
his
five
children,
and
his
disabled
wife.
He
didn’t
complain
while
telling
me
his
story.
He
was
grateful
that
he
didn’t
feel
any
pain
from
his
disease,
which
was
seemingly
a
form
of
skin
cancer.
The
next
morning,
he
said,
“Can
I
come
back
and
stay
the
next
time
I
need
treatment?

I
told
him
he
was
welcome
to
come
again.
On
his
next
trip,
as
a
gift,
he
brought
a
big
fish
and
some
large
oysters
(牡蛎).
In
the
years
that
he
stayed
with
us,
there
was
never
a
time
that
he
did
not
bring
us
gifts
like
these.
My
neighbor
warned
me
that
I
could
lose
potential
(潜在的)
renters
by
putting
up
the
old
man
after
he
left
the
first
morning.
Maybe
we
did
lose
renters
once
or
twice.
But
if
only
they
could
have
known
him,
perhaps
their
illnesses
would
have
been
easier
to
bear.
I
know
our
family
always
will
be
grateful
to
have
known
him;
from
him
we
learned
what
it
was
to
accept
the
bad
without
complaint
and
the
good
with
thankfulness.

of

Once
upon
a
time,
the
colors
in
the
world
started
to
argue.
All
thought
they
were
the
most
important
and
useful.
Green
said,
“I’m

of
life
and
hope.
I
was
chosen

trees
and
leaves.
Look
around
and
you
will
see
me
everywhere.

Blue
followed,
“You

consider
the

but
look
at
the
sky
and
the
sea.

Yellow
smiled,
“I
bring
hope
and
warmth
into
the
world.
Look
at
the
color
of
the
sun
and
the
moon.

Orange
continued,
“I’m
the
color
of
joy.
My
beauty
is
so
fantastic
that
no
one
can
think
of
you
at
sunrise
or
sunset.

Red
shouted
out,
“I’m
the
ruler
of
you.
I’m
the
color
of
life.
So
nobody
can
take
my
place.

Purple
stood
up,
“I’m
the
color
of
power.
People
never
question
me!
They
just
listen
and
follow.

Finally,
indigo(靛青色)
spoke
slowly,
“I
stand
for
thought
and
reflection
(反省).
Yet
all
of
you
just
need
them.

Suddenly,
the
sky
became
dark
and
rain
started
to
pour
down.
The
colors
all
gathered(聚集)
in
fear.
Rain
began
to
speak,
“Join
hands
and
come
to
me.

The
colors
did
as
they
were
told.
Rain
added,
“Don’t
you
know
you

are
made
for
a

purpose?
When
it
rains,
appear
together
to
show
that

When
4-year-old
British
royal
family
member
Prince
George
started
his
first
day
of
school
in
September,
Chinese
language
was
one
of
his
subjects.
And
he
wasn’t
alone.
According
to
a
report
published
by
the
British
Council
in
September,
about
51
percent
of
UK
parents
want
their
children
to
learn
Chinese,
as
it’s
believed
to
be
one
of
the
most
useful
languages
to
know.
Yet,
the
UK
isn’t
the
only
country
showing
a
growing
interest
in
Chinese.
Nowadays,
middle
school
students
in
Russia
can
take
Chinese
as
an
elective
language
test
in
the
country’s
national
college
entrance
exam,
Sputnik
News
reported.
And
many
English-speaking
countries
have
encouraged
their
students
to
learn
Chinese.
The
US
government
started
a
program
called
“1
Million
Strong”in
2015,
a
plan
that
aims
to
bring
the
total
number
of
learners
of
Chinese
to
1
million
by
2020.
The
language
has
become
the
second
most
spoken
foreign
language
in
the
United
States
this
year,
only
after
Spanish
with
over
2.
1
million
speakers,
according
to
a
survey
by
a
US
news
website.
So
far,
67
countries
and
regions
have
included
Chinese
in
their
national
teaching
plans,
reported
the
China
News
Website.
So
why
are
so
many
countries
learning
Chinese?
There
are
many
reasons.
One
of
them
could
be
that
as
China
continues
to
develop
rapidly,
Chinese
is
becoming
a
useful
tool
for
people’s
personal
and
professional
growth.
“I
think
everyone
believes
that
China
will
be
the
next
great
superpower,
”a
student
from
Canada,
who
studied
at
Renmin
University
of
China,
told
Xinhua
News
Agency.
“And
learning
Chinese
is
the
best
way
to
make
sure
that
you
can
be
part
of
that
growth.

Indeed,
it’s
as
the
former
president
of
South
Africa
Nelson
Mandela
put
it,
“If
you
talk
to
a
man
in
a
language
he
understands,
that
goes
to
his
head.
If
you
talk
to
him
in
his
own
language,
that
goes
to
his
heart.

Are
you
interested
in
science?
How
do
you
think
scientists
usually
make
new
discoveries?
The
world
produces
millions
of
tons
of
plastic
wastes
every
year.
What
do
you
think
the
best
way
to
deal
with
plastic
pollution
is?
Why?
Caterpillars(毛虫)are
often
used
as
food
for
fishing.
However,
they
are
now
set
to
join
the
war
on
plastic
wastes.
Federica
Bertocchini
is
a
scientist
with
the
Spanish
National
Research
Council.
When
she’s
not
working
in
her
lab,
Bertocchini
keeps
bees.
One
day,
when
she
looked
at
her
beehives(蜂箱),
she
found
lots
of
caterpillars
which
were
called
waxworms(蜡虫).
They
are
often
used
to
feed
fish.
In
the
wild,
however,
they
live
in
beehives,
feeding
on
the
wax
that
bees
use
to
build
their
houses.
Bertocchini
picked
out
the
caterpillars
and
put
them
in
a
plastic
bag.
Surprisingly,
when
she
returned
to
the
bag
after
cleaning
out
the
hives,
she
found
it
full
of
holes.
The
worms
had
eaten
their
way
out.
Bertocchini
doesn’t
study
plastic.
However,
you
can’t
keep
a
good
scientist
away
from
an
interesting
question:
Were
the
waxworms
digesting(消化)the
plastic?
Bertocchini
got
in
touch
with
Paolo
Bombeli
and
Christopher
Howe
at
the
university
of
Cambridge.
According
to
their
paper,
some
chemicals
within
the
insects
can
really
break
down
plastic.
Other
scientists
have
also
discovered
plastic-eating
species(物种).
In
2016,
for
example,
a
Japanese
team
found
a
bacterium(细菌).
The
bacterium
has
to
spend
more
than
six
months
eating
a
layer
(层)of
plastic
bag.
However,
Bertocchini
and
her
partners
discovered
that
it
took
a
waxworm
about
12
hours
to
eat
a
layer
of
plastic
bag.
But
the
scientists
reminded
that
it
would
be
at
least
several
years
before
they
set
free
waxworms
into
the
environment.
They
want
to
know
if
the
waxworms
are
using
the
plastic
as
a
food,
or
just
they
want
to
run
away.
If
they
just
want
to
run
away
they
are
going
to
get
fed
very
soon.
But
if
they
want
to
eat
it
as
food,
it’s
a
completely
different
game.
“It’s
certainly
not
going
to
be
the
case
that
within
six
months
we’ve
solved
the
world’s
plastic
problem,
”said
Howe.
“I
wouldn’t
want
people
to
think
that
within
a
few
months,
they
can
start
throwing
away
plastic
bags
without
worrying
about
it.

(2020·襄阳)
February
29th
comes
up
on
the
calendar
only
every
four
years.
A
year
with
a
February
29th
might
be
good
news
if
you
are
paid
by
the
day
or
the
week.
But
it
might
be
bad
news
if
you
were
born
on
a
February
29th.
You
have
to
wait
three
years
in
between
birthdays!
American
English
has
an
expression
for
the
unusual
situation.
February
29th
is
called
a
leap
day.
And
the
year
with
a
February
29th
in
it
is
called
a
leap
year.
This
year,
2020,
is
such
a
year.
As
a
verb,
the
word
“leap”
means
to
jump,
or
to
move
quickly.
“Leap”
can
also
be
a
noun,
meaning
a
jump,
or
a
sudden
move.
In
a
leap
year,
the
dates
jump
over
one
day
of
the
week.
Let
me
explain.
In
2017,
the
last
day
of
the
year,
December
31st,
fell
on
a
Sunday.
In
2018,
it
fell
on
a
Monday.
In
2019,
it
fell
on
a
Tuesday.
But
in
2020,
December
31st
will
fall
on
a
Thursday.
It
jumps
right
over
Wednesday.
The
reason
for
a
leap
day
or
a
leap
year
is
because
our
calendar
does
not
follow
the
Earth’s
orbit
(轨道)
around
the
sun
exactly.
Each
year,
we
have
a
little
time
left
over.
So
every
four
years,
we
put
all
that
time
together
into
an
extra
(额外的)
day.
Some
people
choose
to
marry
on
February
29th
because
it
is
an
unusual
date.
But
some
ancient
peoples
would
likely
tell
couples
not
to
do
it.
Leap
years
were
believed
to
be
difficult,
and
leap
days
were
unlucky.
To
be
honest,
these
have
no
scientific
basis
(依据).

Comfort
Zone
is
a
state
of
mind
where
there
is
the
least
stress
(压力).
However,
stepping
into
the
learning
zone
can
help
to
bring
out
the
best
in
us.
Here
are
the
reasons.
▲Challenging
yourself
can
help
you
do
at
your
best.
Stepping
outside
one’s
comfort
zone
is
important
to
personal
development.
How
can
we
expect
to
make
ourselves
better
if
we
only
stick
to
habit
and
routine
(日
常)?
We
should
try
something
we
might
not
succeed
at.
▲Taking
risks
is
what
helps
us
grow.
As
children,
we’re
natural
risk-takers.
But
as
we
get
older
and
learn
to
fear
failure
(失败),
we
start
trying
fewer
new
things.
We
pay
a
heavy
price
for
our
fear
of
failure.
There
is
no
learning
without
some
difficulty.
▲Facing
new
challenges
can
help
us
age
better.
Our
comfort
zones
seem
to
become
smaller
as
we
get
older
but
if
we
can
keep
expanding
them,
we’ll
open
ourselves
up
to
a
greater
world
as
we
age.
As
we
step
into
the
learning
zone,
we
will
get
more
comfortable
with
the
skills
gradually
and
we’ll
start
to
move
into
the
comfort
zone.
A
study
found
that
learning
new
life
skills
can
help
our
brain
stay
sharp
(敏锐的)as
we
get
older.
However,
don’t
push
yourself
too
far.
Have
you
heard
of
“Yerkes-Dodson
Law”?
It
means
performance
increases
as
stress
grows,
but
only
up
to
a
point.
If
the
level
of
stress
becomes
too
high,
performance
will
go
down.
When
stress
becomes
too
great
for
us
to
deal
with,
we
enter
the
danger
zone.
( B )1.
Compared
with
the
comfort

may______.
?
A.
feel
less
stress
B.
face
more
challenges
C.
make
fewer

D.
refuse
more
changes
( B )2.
From
Paragraph
3,
we
will
learn
less
if
we
______.
?
A.
spend
money
B.
fear
failure
C.
take
risks
D.
feel
natural
