Ⅰ.阅读理解
In
its
early
history,
Chicago
had
floods
frequently,
especially
in
the
spring,
making
the
streets
so
muddy
that
people,
horses,
and
carts
got
stuck.
An
old
joke
that
was
popular
at
the
time
went
something
like
this:
A
man
is
stuck
up
to
his
waist
in
a
muddy
Chicago
street.
Asked
if
he
needs
help,
he
replies,“No,
thanks.
I've
got
a
good
horse
under
me.”
The
city
planners
decided
to
build
an
underground
drainage
(排水)
system,
but
there
simply
wasn't
enough
difference
between
the
height
of
the
ground
level
and
the
water
level.
The
only
two
options
were
to
lower
the
Chicago
River
or
raise
the
city.
An
engineer
named
Ellis
Chesbrough
convinced
the
city
that
it
had
no
choice
but
to
build
the
pipes
above
ground
and
then
cover
them
with
dirt.
This
raised
the
level
of
the
city's
streets
by
as
much
as
12
feet.
This
of
course
created
a
new
problem:
dirt
practically
buried
the
first
floors
of
every
building
in
Chicago.
Building
owners
were
faced
with
a
choice:
either
change
the
first
floors
of
their
buildings
into
basements,
and
the
second
stories
into
main
floors,
or
hoist
the
entire
buildings
to
meet
the
new
street
level.
Small
wood?frame
buildings
could
be
lifted
fairly
easily.
But
what
about
large,
heavy
structures
like
the
Tremont
Hotel,
which
was
a
six?story
brick
building?
That's
where
George
Pullman
came
in.
He
had
developed
some
house?moving
skills
successfully.
To
lift
a
big
structure
like
the
Tremont
Hotel,
Pullman
would
place
thousands
of
jackscrews
(螺旋千斤顶)
beneath
the
building's
foundation.
One
man
was
assigned
to
operate
each
section
of
roughly
10
jackscrews.
At
Pullman's
signal
each
man
turned
his
jackscrew
the
same
amount
at
the
same
time,
thereby
raising
the
building
slowly
and
evenly.
Astonishingly,
the
Tremont
Hotel
stayed
open
during
the
entire
operation,
and
many
of
its
guests
didn't
even
notice
anything
was
happening.
Some
people
like
to
say
that
every
problem
has
a
solution.
But
in
Chicago's
early
history,
every
engineering
solution
seemed
to
create
a
new
problem.
Now
that
Chicago's
waste
water
was
draining
efficiently
into
the
Chicago
River,
the
city's
next
step
was
to
clean
the
polluted
river.
芝加哥早期城市规划不合理,一遇洪灾路面就会十分泥泞,后来在工程师Ellis
Chesbrough和George
Pullman的努力下,成功将城市路面以及建筑物提高,避免路面受洪灾影响,但这又导致了另外一个问题的出现。
1.The
author
mentions
the
joke
to
show
________.
A.horses
were
fairly
useful
in
Chicago
B.Chicago's
streets
were
extremely
muddy
C.Chicago
was
very
dangerous
in
the
spring
D.the
Chicago
people
were
particularly
humorous
答案:B
解析:细节理解题。从文章第一段的内容可知,作者讲这个笑话是为了说明芝加哥的路面十分泥泞。
2.The
city
planners
were
convinced
by
Ellis
Chesbrough
to
________.
A.get
rid
of
the
street
dirt
B.lower
the
Chicago
River
C.fight
against
heavy
floods
D.build
the
pipes
above
ground
答案:D
解析:细节理解题。从文章第三段第一句“An
engineer
named
Ellis
Chesbrough
convinced
the
city
that
it
had
no
choice
but
to
build
the
pipes
above
ground
and
then
cover
them
with
dirt.”可得出答案。
3.The
underlined
word
“hoist”
in
Paragraph
4
means
“__________”.
A.change
B.lift
C.repair
D.decorate
答案:B
解析:词义猜测题。根据文章第四段画线词后面的“Small
wood?frame
buildings
could
be
lifted
fairly
easily.”可知,hoist与lift同义。
4.What
can
we
conclude
about
the
moving
operation
of
the
Tremont
Hotel?
A.It
went
on
smoothly
as
intended.
B.It
interrupted
the
business
of
the
hotel.
C.It
involved
Pullman
turning
ten
jackscrews.
D.It
separated
the
building
from
its
foundation.
答案:A
解析:推理判断题。根据第五段最后一句“Astonishingly,
the
Tremont
Hotel
stayed
open
during
the
entire
operation,
and
many
of
its
guests
didn't
even
notice
anything
was
happening.”可推断出Tremont
Hotel的移动工程进行得很顺利。
Ⅱ.语法填空
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Aesop
(伊索)
was
a
slave
living
around
550
BC.
We
call
the
stories
he
wrote
fables,
as
every
story
has
a
moral.
Almost
all
the
fables
he
wrote
are
__1__
(humor)
and
entertaining,
appealing
to
people
__2__
all
ages.
To
date,
Aesop's
fables
__3__
(translate)
into
many
languages
and
are
known
all
over
the
world.
Not
only
__4__
the
fables
themselves
lived
for
nearly
1,500
years,
but
__5__
(express)
from
them
have
entered
various
languages.
One
fable,
for
instance,
is
about
a
farmer
who
was
driving
his
cart
along
a
country
road.
The
cart
got
__6__
(stick)
in
the
mud,
but
the
farmer
made
__7__
effort
to
get
it
out.
Instead,
he
began
to
pray
to
the
gods
for
help.
The
god
Hercules
finally
appeared
and
told
__8__
man
to
get
busy
and
push
__9__.“Push
your
shoulder
to
the
wheel.”
Hercules
advised.
The
moral
of
the
story
is
clear.
We
mustn't
rely
on
others
for
help.
Another
saying
which
has
come
from
the
fable
is
“God
helps
those
__10__
help
themselves.”
1.humorous/humourous
解析:考查词性转换。根据空格前的连系动词are可知,此空格应填形容词作表语。humor的形容词为humorous/humourous。
2.of
解析:考查介词。此处指他写的寓言故事吸引了所有年龄段的人。of用来连接两个名词,其中第二个名词限定第一个名词或给出有关第一个名词的更多信息,符合语境。故填of。
3.have_been_translated
解析:考查动词的时态和语态。动词translate与主语Aesop's
fables之间构成动宾关系;且根据时间状语“To
date”可知,此处应用现在完成时的被动语态。故填have
been
translated。
4.have
解析:考查助动词。not
only放于句首时,其所引导的句子须用部分倒装,即将助动词放在主语前面;根据“lived
for
nearly
1,500
years”可知,此处应使用现在完成时;主语为the
fables,表示复数概念。故填have。
5.expressions
解析:考查词性转换。分析句子结构可知,but后的分句中谓语动词为“have
entered”,空格处应为名词复数作主语,指这些寓言故事里的一些表达已经深入到很多语言中去了。express的名词为expression。故填expressions。
6.stuck
解析:考查非谓语动词。固定搭配get
stuck
in意为“陷入”,符合语境。故填stuck。
7.no/little
解析:考查形容词。根据转折连词“but”可知,此处应为表示否定意义的形容词,即这个农民(几乎)没有努力把它弄出来。故填no/little。
8.the
解析:考查冠词。此处再次提到上文的the
farmer,即Hercules告诉那个农民去推车。所以填定冠词the。
9.it
解析:考查代词。为了避免重复,此处用代词it指代上文中的the
cart。
10.who
解析:考查定语从句。先行词those在定语从句中作主语,意为“那些人”,所以用关系代词who引导该定语从句。God
helps
those
who
help
themselves意为“天助自助者”。Module

dressed
in
baseball
caps
and
T?shirts
are
classic
American
style
choices”可知,美国的穿衣风格是戴棒球帽,穿T恤衫,所以A项不正确;根据第一段第一句中的“the
preppy(学院风格)look
is
what
sophisticated(高雅时髦的)British
youths
wear”可知,英国年轻人喜欢学院风格,穿T恤衫不是他们的风格,所以B项不正确,C项正确;根据第一段第二句“But
when
it
comes
to
the
best?dressed
nation,
neither
the
US
nor
the
UK
tops
CNN's
list.”可知,英国并不是世界上着装最佳的国家,所以D项不正确。故答案选C。

is
practical
and
creative.
B.It
is

underlined
word
“emulate”
in
the
last
Paragraph?
A.Imitate. B.Thrill. C.Like. D.Hate.
答案:A
解析:词义猜测题。imitate意为“模仿”;thrill意为“使激动”;like意为“喜欢”;hate意为“讨厌”。根据本句中的“The
laissez?faire(自由放任的)
approach
to
fashion
is
something
many
people
love”可知,很多人都喜爱这种自由放任的时尚风格,故法国人的穿衣风格是我们都想模仿的。故画线词emulate与imitate同义。故答案选A。

The
freezing
Northeast
hasn't
been
a
terribly
fun
place
to
spend
time
this
winter,
so
when
the
chance
came
for
a
weekend
to
Sarasota,
Florida,
my
bags
were
packed
before
you
could
say
“sunshine”.
I
left
for
the
land
of
warmth
and
vitamin
C
(维生素C),thinking
of
beaches
and
orange
trees.
When
we
touched
down
to
blue
skies
and
warm
air,
I
sent
up
a
small
prayer
of
gratefulness.
Swimming
pools,
wine
tasting,
and
pink
sunsets
(at
normal
evening
hours,
not
4
in
the
afternoon)
filled
the
weekend,
but
the
best
part—particularly
to
my
taste,
dulled
by
months
of
cold?weather
root
vegetables—was
a
7
am
adventure
to
the
Sarasota
farmers'
market
that
proved
to
be
more
than
worth
the
early
wake?up
call.
The
market,
which
was
founded
in
1979,
sets
up
its
tents
every
Saturday
from
7
am
to
1
pm,
rain
or
shine,
along
North
Lemon
and
State
streets.
Baskets
of
perfect
red
strawberries;
the
red?painted
sides
of
the
Java
Dawg
coffee
truck;
and
most
of
all,
the
tomatoes:
amazing,
large,
soft
and
round
red
tomatoes.
Disappointed
by
many
a
broken,
vine?ripened
(藤蔓上成熟的)
promise,
I've
refused
to
buy
winter
tomatoes
for
years.
No
matter
how
attractive
they
look
in
the
store,
once
I
get
them
home
they're
unfailingly
dry,
hard,
and
tasteless.
But
I
homed
in,
with
uncertainty,
on
one
particular
table
at
the
Brown's
Grove
Farm's
stand,
full
of
fresh
and
soft
tomatoes
the
size
of
my
fist.
These
were
the
real
deal—and
at
that
moment,
I
realized
that
the
best
part
of
Sarasota
in
winter
was
going
to
be
eating
things
that
back
home
in
New
York
I
wouldn't
be
experiencing
again
for
months.
Delighted
as
I
was
by
the
tomatoes
in
sight,
my
happiness
deepened
when
I
learned
that
Brown's
Grove
Farm
is
one
of
the
suppliers
for
Jack
Dusty,
a
newly
opened
restaurant
at
the
Sarasota
Ritz
Carlton,
where—luckily
for
me—I
was
planning
to
have
dinner
that
very
night.
Without
even
seeing
the
menu,
I
knew
I'd
be
ordering
every
tomato
on
it.
本文描述了作者在严冬季节去佛罗里达州的萨拉索塔市(Sarasota)过周末的感受。在温暖如春的萨拉索塔市,各种蔬菜水果生机勃勃,而在寒冷的美国东北部,表面诱人的西红柿却食之无味。
1.What
did
the
author
think
of
her
winter
life
in
New
York?
A.Exciting.
B.Boring.
C.Relaxing.
D.Annoying.
答案:B
解析:推理判断题。根据文章第一句话中的“The
freezing
Northeast
hasn't
been
a
terribly
fun
place
to
spend
time
this
winter”可判断,作者不喜欢在纽约过冬,因此毫不犹豫决定去南方过周末。

the

getting
up

worthwhile?

a
swim.
B.Breathing
in
fresh
air.

in
the
morning
sun.
D.Visiting
a
local
farmers'
market.

was
a
7
am
adventure
to
the
Sarasota
farmers'
market
that
proved
to
be
more
than

the

York
in
winter?
A.They
are
soft.
B.They
look
nice.
C.They
taste
great.
D.They
are
juicy.
答案:B
解析:推理判断题。根据第三段可知,多年来,作者在冬季都不买西红柿。由第二句话“No
matter
how
attractive
they
look
in
the
store,
once
I
get
them
home
they're
unfailingly
dry,
hard,
and
tasteless”可判断,在纽约市的冬季,西红柿在商店看起来挺好的,但是拿到家里吃起来却不好吃。因此答案为B。
4.What
was
the
author
going
to
do
that
evening?
A.Go
to
a
farm.
B.Check
into
a
hotel.
C.Eat
in
a
restaurant.
D.Buy
fresh
vegetables.

B
When
I
was
nine
years
old,
I
loved
to
go
fishing
with
my
dad.
But
the
only
thing
that
wasn't
very
fun
about
it
was
that
he
could
catch
many
fish
while
I
couldn't
catch
anything.
I
usually
got
pretty
upset
and
kept
asking
him
why.
He
always
answered,“Son,
if
you
want
to
catch
a
fish,
you
have
to
think
like
a
fish.”
I
remember
being
even
more
upset
then
because,“I'm
not
a
fish!”
I
didn't
know
how
to
think
like
a
fish.
Besides,
I
reasoned,
how
could
what
I
think
influence
what
a
fish
does?
As
I
got
a
little
older
I
began
to
understand
what
my
dad
really
meant.
So,
I
read
some
books
on
fish.
And
I
even
joined
the
local
fishing
club
and
started
attending
the
monthly
meetings.
I
learned
that
a
fish
is
a
cold?blooded
animal
and
therefore
is
very
sensitive
to
water
temperature.
That
is
why
fish
prefer
shallow
water
to
deep
water
because
the
former
is
warmer.
Besides,
water
is
usually
warmer
in
direct
sunlight
than
in
the
shade.
Yet,
fish
don't
have
any
eyelids
(眼皮)
and
the
sun
hurts
their
eyes...The
more
I
understood
fish,
the
more
I
became
effective
at
finding
and
catching
them.
When
I
grew
up
and
entered
the
business
world,
I
remember
hearing
my
first
boss
say,“We
all
need
to
think
like
salespeople.”
But
it
didn't
completely
make
sense.
My
dad
never
once
said,“If
you
want
to
catch
a
fish
you
need
to
think
like
a
fisherman.”
What
he
said
was,“You
need
to
think
like
a
fish.”Years
later,
with
great
efforts
to
promote
long?term
services
to
people
much
older
and
richer
than
me,
I
gradually
learned
what
we
all
need
is
to
think
more
like
customers.
It
is
not
an
easy
job.I
will
show
you
how
in
the
following
chapters.

understand
what
fish
think.

C
Teens
and
younger
children
are
reading
a
lot
less
for
fun,according
to
a
Common
Sense
Media
report
published
Monday.
While
the
decline
over
the
past
decade
is
steep
for
teen
readers,some
data
in
the
report
shows
that
reading
remains
a
big
part
of
many
children's
lives,and
indicates
how
parents
might
help
encourage
more
reading.
According
to
the
report's
key
findings,“the
proportion(比例)who
say
they
‘hardly

for
fun
has
gone
from
8
percent
of
13?year?olds
and
9
percent
of
17?year?olds
in
1984
to
22
percent
and
27
percent
respectively
today.”
The
report
data
shows
that
pleasure
reading
levels
for
younger
children,ages
2—8,remain
largely
the
same.But
the
amount
of
time
spent
in
reading
each
session
has
declined,from
closer
to
an
hour
or
more
to
closer
to
a
half
hour
per
session.
When
it
comes
to
technology
and
reading,the
report
does
little

for
data
about
the
effect
of
e?readers
and
tablets
on
reading.It
does
point
out
that
many
parents
still
limit
electronic
reading,mainly
due
to
concerns
about
increased
screen

The
most
hopeful
data
shared
in
the
report
shows
clear
evidence
of
parents
serving
as
examples
and
important

for
their
kids
when
it
comes
to
reading.Data
shows
that
kids
and
teens
who
do
read
frequently,compared
to
infrequent
readers,have
more
books
in
the
home,more
books
purchased
for
them,parents
who

more
often,and
parents
who
set
aside
time
for
them
to
read.
As
the
end
of
school
approaches,and
school

parents

this

本文是一篇议论文。一份调查报告显示,尽管阅读在很多孩子的生活中仍然是很重要的一部分,但是进行趣味性阅读的青少年人数在减少。要想改变这种状况,父母应该在阅读方面起示范作用,成为重要的引导者。
28.What
is
the
Common
Sense
Media

probably
about?
A.Children's
reading
habits.
B.Quality
of
children's
books.
C.Children's
after?class
activities.
D.Parent?child
relationships.
答案:A
解析:推理判断题。关于题干提到的这份报告,第二、三段说孩子们的趣味性阅读减少了,几乎不进行趣味性阅读的人数增加了,第五、六段提到电子书的阅读以及父母的榜样作用,从这些信息推断,这份报告研究的内容是孩子们的阅读习惯,因此选A。
29.Where
can
you

are
reading
a
lot
less
for
fun”?

Paragraph
3.
C.In
Paragraph
4.

31.How
should
parents
encourage
their
children
to
read
more?
A.Act
as
role
models
for
them.
B.Ask
them

write
book
reports.
C.Set
up
reading
groups
for

their
reading
class
teachers.
答案:A

I
awoke
in
the
night
to
find
my
husband,
Marty,
gently
rocking
our
baby
son,
Noah.I
stood
for
a
moment
in
the
doorway,
watching
this
amazing
man
with
whom
I
was
so
blessed
to
share
my
life,
lovingly
stroke
Noah's
fat
pink
cheeks
in
an
effort
to
comfort
him.I
felt
in
my
heart
that
something
was
seriously
wrong
with
Noah.This
was
one
of
several
nights
Noah
had
been
up,
burning
with
a
high
fever.
Tears
filled
my
eyes
as
I
watched
Marty
move
Noah's
little
cheek
up
against
his
own
chest,
so
that
Noah
could
feel
the
vibrations
of
his
voice.Noah
is
deaf.Learning
to
comfort
him
has
brought
on
a
whole
new
way
of
thinking
for
us.We
relied
on
our
voices,
audio
toys,
and
music
to
comfort
our
other
children.But
with
Noah,
we
need
to
use
touch,
sight,
the
feel
of
our
voices,
and
most
importantly,
the
use
of
sign
language
to
communicate
emotions
and
a
sense
of
comfort
to
him.Marty
made
the
sign
for
“I
love
you”
with
his
hand
and
I
saw
a
tear
roll
down
his
cheek
as
he
placed
Noah's
tiny,
weak
hand
on
top
of
his.
We
had
taken
Noah
to
the
doctor
more
times
than
those
I
can
remember.It
had
been
a
week
and
a
half
and
Noah's
fever
remained
very
high
and
very
dangerous,
despite
everything
the
doctor
or
we
had
tried.I
knew
in
my
soul
the
way
only
a
mother
can
know,
that
Noah
was
in
trouble.
I
gently
touched
Marty's
shoulder
and
we
looked
into
each
other's
eyes
with
the
same
fear
and
knowledge
that
Noah's
wasn't
getting
any
better.I
offered
to
take
over
for
him,
but
he
shook
his
head.When
morning
finally
came,
we
called
the
doctor
and
were
told
to
bring
him
in
again.We
already
knew
that
he
would
probably
put
Noah
in
the
hospital.So,
we
made
arrangements
for
the
other
children,
packed
bags
for
all
three
of
us,
and
tearfully
drove
to
the
doctor's
office
once
again.Our
hearts
filled
with
dread,
we
waited
in
a
small
room,
different
from
the
usual
examining
room
we
had
become
used
to.
Paragraph
1:
Our
doctor
finally
came
in,
saying
that

本文是一篇说明文。文章告诉我们挤出时间锻炼身体的好处,而晨练的好处更大,对身体和工作都有所裨益。
1.G 解析:本空前文说在繁忙的生活中,我们很难找到时间锻炼,后文说晨练的好处,故中间的衔接句可表达“假设有时间锻炼”之类的含义,因此G项符合语境。
2.E 解析:本段的主旨是“晨练能提高你的效率”,E项“锻炼之后的4到10小时内,你都能让自己头脑清醒”追加了锻炼的好处,符合此处的语境。
3.F 解析:这一段说的是晨练有助于人体的新陈代谢,能让你一整天都感受到晨练消耗卡路里带来的好处,F项意为“晨练之后你还会在一天时间里继续消耗卡路里”。F项中的关键词throughout
the

whole
day呼应。故选F。
4.B 解析:本题考查段落主题。本段提到slept
better,difficult
to
