Unit

Travel
Journal
Reading:
Journey
Down
the
Mekong
Good
morning,
everyone!
I’m
happy
to
share
my
speech
with
you.
My
topic
is
the
reading
passage,
which
is
in
Unit
3,
Book
1.
I
divide
my
speech
into
five
parts,
namely
analysis
of
teaching
material
and
students,
teaching
aims,
teaching
important
and
difficult
points,
teaching
methods
and
studying
ways,
teaching
procedures.
Now
let’s
start
with
the
first
part:
Analysis
of
the
Teaching
Material
and
Students.
The
theme
content
of
this
unit
is
about
human
and
nature.
The
reading
passage
is
the
highlight
of
this
unit.
It
is
a
piece
of
travel
journal
written
by
Wang
Kun.
It
mainly
talks
about
Wang
Kun
and
his
sister’s
dream
of
taking
a
great
bike
trip
down
the
Mekong
River,
their
preparations
for
the
trip
and
some
more
details
of
the
Mekong
River.
It
is
organized
chronologically,
which
is
good
for
students
to
practice
the
techniques
of
reading.
Students
are
interested
in
traveling,
but
they
lack
the
knowledge
of
the
Mekong
River.
Teaching
Aims
1.
Language
Competence
Get
students
to
learn
some
geographical
knowledge
about
the
Mekong
River.
2.
Thinking
Quality
Get
students
to
summarize
the
main
idea
of
the
passage
and
grasp
the
detailed
information
by
skimming
and
scanning.
Analyze
Wang
Wei
and
Wang
Kuns’
attitudes
to
the
journey.
3.
Cultural
Awareness
Enhance
the
love
for
nature
and
international
awareness.
4.
Learning
Ability
Learn
individually
and
work
cooperatively
with
teacher’s
guidance.
Teaching
Important
and
Difficult
Points
1.
In
my
opinion
the
teaching
important
point
in
this
period
is
how
to
get
students
to
understand
the
travel
journal
better
by
using
different
reading
skills.
2.
The
teaching
difficult
point
for
the
students
is
how
to
analyze
the
character
of
Wang
Wei
and
Wang
Kun
and
their
attitudes
to
the
trip.
Then
let’s
focus
on
the
next
part:
Teaching
Methods
and
Studying
Ways.
I’ll
do
my
best
to
carry
out
the
theories
of
the
new
curriculum
standard,
such
as
task-based
teaching,
situational
approach,
cooperative
approach
and
interactive
approach;
make
the
students
the
real
masters
in
class
while
I,
the
teacher
acts
as
director;
students
use
skimming
to
get
a
general
idea
of
the
text
and
scanning
to
get
the
detailed
information.
Task-based
methods
to
get
the
students
to
summarize
and
comprehend
the
passage
thoroughly;
pair
or
group
work
to
get
every
student
to
be
active
in
class;
question-and-answer
activity
teaching
method
to
make
the
students
smooth
away
the
difficulties.
Here
comes
the
most
important
part:
Teaching
Procedures.
I
have
designed
the
following
steps
to
train
the
students’
ability
of
reading
and
writing.
Step
1:
Leading-in
and
Predicting
If
you
have
a
holiday
to
travel,
how
are
you
going?
Purpose:
Lead
up
to
the
topic
naturally
and
arouse
their
interest
in
learning
the
passage.
Step
2:
Fast
Reading
Match
the
main
idea
with
each
paragraph.
Aims:
Develop
students’
reading
ability
to
get
the
main
idea
and
certain
information.
Step
3:
Careful
reading
To
train
students’
reading
skill
for
scanning
and
enable
students
to
find
out
exact
information
and
have
a
better
understanding
of
the
trip,
the
attitude
and
the
Mekong.
Step4:
Writing
Purpose:
Apply
what
they
have
learned
into
practice.
The
travel
plan
should
contain
five
elements
and
it
can
be
organized
chronologically.
Step
5:
Homework
Homework
is
so
important
and
necessary
for
the
students
to
master
the
knowledge
they
learned
after
class.
It
will
check
whether
the
students
achieve
the
teaching
aims.
Thank
you
for
listening!
