七、阅读理解
A
This
brief
book
is
aimed
at
high
school
students,but
speaks
to
anyone
learning
at
any
stage
of
life.
Its
formal,serious
style
closely
matches
its
content,a
school-masterly
book
on
schooling.The
author,W.H.Armstrong,starts
with
the
basics:reading
and
writing.In
his
opinion,reading
doesn’t
just
mean
recognizing
each
word
on
the
page;it
means
taking
in
the
information,digesting
it
and
incorporating
it
into
oneself
just
as
one
digests
a
sandwich
and
makes
it
a
part
of
himself.The
goal
is
to
bring
the
information
back
to
life,not
just
to
treat
it
as
dead
facts
on
paper
from
dead
trees.Reading
and
writing
cannot
be
completely
separated
from
each
other;in
fact,the
aim
of
reading
is
to
express
the
information
you
have
got
from
the
text.I’ve
seen
it
again
and
again:someone
who
can’t
express
an
idea
after
reading
a
text
is
just
as
ineffective
as
someone
who
hasn’t
read
it
at
all.
Only
a
third
of
the
book
remains
after
that
discussion,which
Armstrong
devotes
to
specific
tips
for
studying
languages,math,science
and
history.He
generally
handles
these
topics
thoroughly
and
equally,except
for
some
weakness
in
the
science
and
math
sections
and
a
bit
too
much
passion
(激情)
regarding
history.Well,he
was
a
history
teacher—if
conveyed
only
a
tenth
of
his
passion
to
his
students,that
was
a
hundred
times
more
than
my
history
teachers
ever
got
across.
To
my
disappointment,in
this
part
of
the
book
he
ignores
the
arts.As
a
matter
of
fact,they
demand
all
the
concentration
and
study
that
math
and
science
do,though
the
study
differs
slightly
in
kind.Although
it’s
commonly
believed
that
the
arts
can
only
be
naturally
acquired,actually,learning
the
arts
is
no
more
natural
than
learning
French
or
mathematics.
My
other
comment
is
that
the
text
aged.The
first
edition
apparently
dates
to
the
1960s—none
of
the
references(参考文献)seem
newer
than
the
late
1950s.As
a
result,the
discussion
misses
the
entire
computer
age.
These
are
small
points,though,and
don’t
affect
the
main
discussion.I
recommend
it
to
any
student
and
any
teacher,including
the
self-taught
student.

B
It
is
of
great
importance
for
students
to
be
able
to
get
a
feel
for
the
rhythm
and
sounds
of
a
poem—more
so
than
for
most
pieces
of
prose
(散文).This
isn’t
always
easy
in
a
second
language,and
so
listening
to
their
teacher
read
the
poem,or
to
a
professional
recording,perhaps
by
the
poet
or
by
an
actor,is,I
feel,necessary.
As
with
any
listening
activity,students
will
need
some
kind
of
preparation
and
task
so
that
they
can
be
actively
engaged.They
might
be
asked
to
check
predictions
that
arose
from
a
warm-up
discussion,to
compare
their
suggested
rhyming
couplets
with
the
poet’s,or
to
identify
stressed
words
and
syllables.
You
might
also
want
to
get
your
students
to
listen
to
recorded
or
live
discussions
about
poems.This
can,for
example,take
the
form
of
a
couple
of
teachers
or
a
group
of
students
giving
their
views
on
a
poem,or
even
an
interview
with
the
poet.
I’m
a
big
fan
of
jigsaw
listening
because
of
the
natural
information
gap.If
your
school
has
the
facilities,you
might
like
to:divide
your
students
into
two
or
even
three
groups,give
each
group
a
different
cassette
or
CD
and
tasks
to
work
on
then
they
come
back
together
to
share
what
they
have
learned.
Remember
that
your
own
enthusiasm
is
a
key
factor
in
any
activity
relating
to
literature
in
the
classroom.
Finally,don’t
forget
to
encourage
art
for
art’s
sake.Listening
for
pleasure,to
poetry
(or
to
anything
else,for
that
matter),is
to
be
fostered
at
every
opportunity,because
of
the
obvious
benefits
which
include
motivation,vocabulary
acquisition
and
learner
independence.Many
good
song
lyrics
(歌词)
could
be
termed
poetry
and
treated
accordingly
in
the
classroom,copyright
rules
permitting.
7.Which

8.What

答案与解析
1.celebration 考查名词。根据前面的不定冠词a可知,此处应用名词形式。
2.carries 考查动词时态。该句含有why引导的表语从句,从句的主语是decorating,所以此处谓语应用第三人称单数形式。
3.coming 考查非谓语动词。设空处做动词represent的宾语,所以用动词-ing形式。
4.than 考查固定搭配。根据前面的more以及后面的asymbolofgoodfortuneandwealth可知,此处用than。morethan在此处意为“不仅仅是”。
5.decorated 考查非谓语动词。分析句子结构可知,此处为“see+宾语+宾语补足语”结构,them与decorate之间是动宾关系,所以用动词-ed形式。
6.Certainly 考查副词。设空处位于句首,修饰整个句子,应该用副词形式。
7.with 考查介词。beassociatedwith是固定搭配,意为“与……有关”。
8.tocare 考查非谓语动词。此处为“be+adj.+todo”结构,其中不定式做状语。
9.beautiful 考查形容词。由后面的longbranches可知,此处应用形容词修饰名词。
10.the 考查冠词。设空处修饰后面的序数词first,所以用定冠词,特指“第一个”。

high
school?I
didn’t
like
to
be
busy,just
liked
to
have

time,and
be
with
my

now
I

of
like
being
busy.

M:Sure.I
was
mountain

in
New
Hampshire
last
year.Suddenly
the
weather
became
really
bad.There
was
a
lot
of
snow
and
I
couldn’t
see
anything.I
got
lost.Well,I
spent
four
days
on
the
mountain.The
temperature
was
20
degrees
below
zero.I
didn’t
have
any
equipment
or
food.
W:So
what
happened?I
guess
someone
found
you,right?
M:Yes,but
I
was
very
sick.I
couldn’t
move
my
legs
because
of
the
cold.I
spent
two
months
in
the
hospital.The
doctors
removed
my
legs.
W:So
you
lost
your
legs,but
you
want
to
try
your
best
to
stay
active.
M:That’s
right.In
fact,I
decided
to
make
some
new
legs
for
myself.I
realize
that
no
one
has
to
be
physically
disabled.We
can
use
modern
technology
to
help
us.
W:And
you
built
these
great
new
legs.Can
you
go
mountain
climbing
again?

答案A
听第10段材料,回答第18~20题。
I’m
honored
to
be
a
judge
for
the
English
Speech
Competition.As
a
judge
and
college
teacher,I’d
like
to
share
with
you
some
tips
on
how
to
be
successful
in
the
competition,which
I
hope
will
help
in
preparing
for
the
competition.
First,it’s
better
to
use
familiar
words.Many
competitors
hold
the
belief
that
complicated
words
sound
impressive.In
fact
they
usually
destroy
understanding.Also,learning
when
and
how
to
pause
is
not
only
a
major
challenge,but
also
important
as
one
gains
more
confidence
during
these
moments
of
silence.One
thing
I
want
to
mention
is
that
during
these
pauses,do
not
fill
the
silence
with
“uh”“er”
or
“um”.They
are
annoying.Next,remember
to
strike
the
right
balance
between
good
pronunciation
and
fluency.Pronunciation
is
more
important.Remember
personal
appearance
plays
an
important
role
in
making
a
speech.Judges
always
see
the
competitors
before
they
begin
to
speak.My
main
advice
is
simple:Be
yourself.My
last
advice
to
you
is
that
practice
makes
perfect.
In
conclusion,I
wish
every
one
of
you
success
in
the
competition.
18.What
is
the
speaker
mainly
talking
about?
A.Advice
before
the
speech
competition.
B.Advice
after
the
speech
competition.
C.Advice
during
the
speech
competition.
答案A
19.What
is
the
speaker?
A.A
judge
and
organizer.
B.A
college
teacher
and
judge.
C.A
college
teacher
and
competitor.
答案B
20.What
is
many
competitors’
wrong
belief?
A.Familiar
words
destroy
understanding.
B.Complicated
words
destroy
understanding.
C.Complicated
words
sound
impressive.
答案C
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
The
values
of
artistic
works,according
to
cultural
relativism(相对主义),are
simply
reflections
of
local
social
and
economic
conditions.Such
a
view,however,fails
to
explain
the
ability
of
some
works
of
art
to
excite
the
human
mind
across
cultures
and
through
centuries.
History
has
witnessed
the
endless
productions
of
Shakespearean
plays
in
every
major
language
of
the
world.It
is
never
rare
to
find
that
Mozart
packs
Japanese
concert
halls,as
Japanese
painter
Hiroshige
does
Paris
galleries.Unique
works
of
this
kind
are
different
from
today’s
popular
art,even
if
they
began
as
works
of
popular
art.They
have
set
themselves
apart
in
their
timeless
appeal
and
will
probably
be
enjoyed
for
centuries
into
the
future.
In
a
1757
essay,the
philosopher
David
Hume
argued
that
because
“the
general
principles
of
taste
are
uniform(不变的)
in
human
nature,”the
value
of
some
works
of
art
might
be
essentially
permanent.He
observed
that
Homer
was
still
admired
after
two
thousand
years.Works
of
this
type,he
believed,spoke
to
deep
and
unvarying
features
of
human
nature
and
could
continue
to
exist
over
centuries.
Now
researchers
are
applying
scientific
methods
to
the
study
of
the
universality
of
art.For
example,evolutionary
psychology
is
being
used
by
literary
scholars
to
explain
the
long-lasting
themes
and
plot
devices
in
fiction.The
structures
of
musical
pieces
are
now
open
to
experimental
analysis
as
never
before.Research
findings
seem
to
indicate
that
the
creation
by
a
great
artist
is
as
permanent
an
achievement
as
the
discovery
by
a
great
scientist.
21.According
to
the
passage,what
do
we
know
about
cultural
relativism?
A.It
introduces
different
cultural
values.
B.It
explains
the
history
of
artistic
works.
C.It
relates
artistic
values
to
local
conditions.
D.It
excites
the
human
mind
throughout
the
world.
答案C
解析细节理解题。由第一段第一句可知,文化相对主义论认为,艺术作品仅仅是对当地社会经济条件的反映。故C项正确。
22.In
Paragraph
2,the
artists
are
mentioned
in
order
to
show
that
   .?
A.great
works
of
art
can

beyond
national
boundaries
B.history
gives
art
works
special
appeal
to
set
them
apart
C.popular
arts
are
hardly
distinguishable
from
great
arts
D.great
artists
are
skilled
at
combining
various
cultures
答案A
解析推理判断题。由第二段可知,莎士比亚的戏剧不断地被译为各大语种,莫扎特出现在日本的音乐会上,这都说明艺术无国界。故A项正确。
23.According
to
Hume,some
works
of
art
can
exist
for
centuries
because
   .?
A.they
are
results
of
scientific
study
B.they
establish
some
general
principles
of
art
C.they
are
created
by
the
world’s
greatest
artists
D.they
appeal
to
unchanging
features
of
human
nature
答案D
解析推理判断题。由倒数第二段第一句中的“thegeneralprinciplesoftasteareuniform(不变的)inhumannature”可知,有些艺术作品存在几个世纪是因为它们符合人类对艺术的不变的品味。故D项正确。
24.Which
of
the
following
can
best
serve
as
the
title
of
the
passage?
A.Are
Artistic
Values
Universal?
B.Are
Popular
Arts
Permanent?
C.Is
Human
Nature
Uniform?
D.Is
Cultural
Relativism
Scientific?
答案A
解析主旨大意题。本文论述了艺术价值是超越时空和地域的限制的,故A项正确。而B项“流行艺术是永久的吗?”,C项“人性是一成不变的吗?”,D项“艺术相对主义科学吗?”均偏离主题。

A.Publication
in
a

C
Across
Britain,burnt
toast
will
be
served
to
mothers
in
bed
this
morning
as
older
sons
and
daughters
rush
to
deliver
their
supermarket
bunches
of
flowers.But,according
to
a
new
study,we
should
be
placing
a
higher
value
on
motherhood
all
year.
Mothers
have
long
known
that
their
home
workload
was
just
as
heavy
as
paid
work.Now,the
new
study
has
shown
that
if
they
were
paid
for
their
parental
labours,they
would
earn
as
much
as
£172,000
a
year.
The
study
looked
at
the
range
of
jobs
mothers
do,as
well
as
the
hours
they
are
working,to
determine
the
figure.This
would
make
their
yearly
income
£30,000
more
than
the
Prime
Minister
earns.
By
analysing
the
numbers,it
found
the
average
mother
works
119
hours
a
week,40
of
which
would
usually
be
paid
at
a
standard
rate
and
79
hours
as
overtime.After
questioning
1,000
mothers
with
children
under
18,it
found
that,on
most
days,mums
started
their
routine
work
at
7
am
and
finished
at
around
11
pm.
To
calculate
just
how
much
mothers
would
earn
from
that
labour,it
suggested
some
of
the
roles
that
mums
could
take
on,including
housekeeper,part-time
lawyer,personal
trainer
and
entertainer.Being
a
part-time
lawyer,at
£48.98
an
hour,would
prove
to
be
the
most
profitable
of
the
“mum
jobs”,with
psychologist(心理学家)
a
close
second.
It
also
asked
mothers
about
the
challenges
they
face,with
80
per
cent
making
emotional(情感的)
demand
as
the
hardest
thing
about
motherhood.
Over
a
third
of
mums
felt
they
needed
more
training
and
around
half
said
they
missed
going
out
with
friends.
The
study
shows
mothers
matter
all
year
long
and
not
just
on
Mother’s
Day.The
emotional,physical
and
mental
energy
mothers
devote
to
their
children
can
be
never-ending,but
children
are
also
sources
of
great
joy
and
happiness.Investing(投入)
in
time
for
parenting
and
raising
relationships
is
money
well
spent.
28.How
much
would
a
mother
earn
a
year
if
working
as
the
Prime
Minister?
A.£30,000. B.£142,000.
C.£172,000.
D.£202,000.
答案B
解析推理判断题。由第二段中的“...theywouldearnasmuchas£172,000ayear.”和第三段中的“Thiswouldmaketheiryearlyincome£30,000morethanthePrimeMinisterearns.”可以推断出首相的年薪为£172,000减去£30,000,故B项正确。
29.The
biggest
challenge
for
most
mothers
is
from
   .?
A.emotional
demand
B.low
pay
for
work
C.heavy
workload
D.lack
of
training
答案A
解析细节理解题。由倒数第三段中的“...with80percentmakingemotional(情感的)demandasthehardestthingaboutmotherhood.”可知对大多数母亲来说,最大的挑战来自情感需求,故A项正确。
30.What
is
stressed
in
the
last
paragraph?
A.Mothers’
importance
shows
in
family
all
year
long.
B.The
sacrifices
mothers
make
are
huge
but
worthwhile.
C.Mothers’
devotion
to
children
can
hardly
be
calculated.
D.Investing
time
in
parenting
would
bring
a
financial
return.
答案B
解析推理判断题。由最后一段中的“...butchildrenarealsosourcesofgreatjoyandhappiness.Investing(投入)intimeforparentingandraisingrelationshipsismoneywellspent.”可知母亲对孩子们的付出是永无止境的,孩子们就是母亲快乐的源泉。投入时间与精力抚养孩子是值得的。故B项正确。
31.What
can
we
conclude
from
the
study?
A.Mothers’
working
hours
should
be
largely
reduced.
B.Mothers
should
balance
their
time
for
work
and
rest.
C.Mothers’
labour
is
of
a
higher
value
than
it
is
realised.
D.Mothers
should
be
freed
from
housework
for
social
life.
答案C
解析推理判断题。文章用调查数字说明妈妈们工作时间过长,为家庭做的是无偿奉献,并且妈妈在孩子的培养上的作用是无可替代的,故C项正确。

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Trust
has
been
considered
as
the
basis
of
any
relationship,including
friendship.No
relationship
can
last
long
with
a
lack
of
trust.Not
many
of
your
friends
will
have
real
faith
in
you
as
you
would
like
to
believe. 36
Sometimes,it
takes
years,even
a
complete
lifetime,to
trust
someone.However,how
do
we
know
if
our
friends
have
faith
in
us??
 37
With
whom
will
you
share
things
that
you
don’t
want
everyone
to
know?It
would
be
with
a
close
friend,whom
you
trust
as
much
as
you
trust
yourself.While
a
few
of
your
friends
may
be
fiercely
protective
of
their
privacy
and
may
not
tell
their
secrets
to
anyone,those
who

find
you
trustworthy
and

Whom
do
you
look
up
to
for
advice
when
you
need
it
the
most?It
has
to
be
either
your
parents
or
your
friends. 38
This
is
a
shining
example
of
trust.You
only
seek
advice
from
people
you

in
high
regard
and
find
dependable.The
friends
who
trust
you
will
never
forget
to
include
you
in
the
important
decisions
of
their
life.?
Arguments
and
heated
discussions
are
a
part
of
every
relationship,and
this
is
also
true
for
friendship. 39
While
some
people
find
it
difficult
to
forgive
and
forget,your
friends
will
never
have
problems
moving
on.It
is
because
they
trust
you
and
believe
that
you
will
never
cause
any
pain
to
them
on
purpose.?
There
are
times
in
life
when
you
find
yourself
a
lonely
soldier. 40
Your
friends
will
never
let
you
down
and
will
strongly
stand
for
you
when
you
need
encouragement.You
can
determine
that
they
trust
you
and
believe
in
your
beliefs,if
they
side
with
you
when
you
need
them
the
most.?
A.People
can
be
extraordinarily
jealous
sometimes.
B.You
know
they
will
never
pass
on
a
wrong
suggestion.
C.In
fact,winning
trust
is,by
far,the
most
challenging
aspect
of
relationships.
D.Two
people
cannot
have
identical
reactions
to
a
situation
and
different
opinions
do
exist.
E.No
matter
how
close
you
are
to
your
friends,you
cannot
take
that
comfort
level
for
granted.
F.If
your
friends
share
their
secrets,there’s
a
good
possibility
that
they
have
much
faith
in
you.
G.However,people
who
are
fortunate
to
have
been
blessed
with
true
friends
are
never
alone
in

battle.

答案与解析
56.a 句意:在东欧一些国家乘出租车可能是一种令人震惊的经历。根据语境可知本句中泛指任何一种令人震惊的经历。故用不定冠词。shocking是以辅音音素开头的,故不定冠词用a。
57.stuck 句意:据说一些出租车司机把金属丝刺入乘客的座位里。havesth.done,过去分词做宾语补足语表示被动的动作,和被修饰词是动宾关系。故填stuck。
58.is
pushed 句意:当按下一个按钮时,这个座位会给你一次电击。当主句描述将来动作时,时间状语从句中用一般现在时态表示将来动作。从句主语是动作对象,故用被动语态。button是单数名词,故填ispushed。
59.for 句意:这些出租车司机做这件事不是为了取乐。此处表示动作的目的,故填for。
60.who 此处是定语从句,先行词tourists为下文定语从句的逻辑主语,指人。故关系词用who。
61.as 句意:一些司机收取的费用多达法定费用的10倍。asmuchas“差不多,多达”。
62.faster 句意:他们有一个秘密的开关,这能让仪表走得更快。faster“更快地”。
63.but 句意:但是她能做什么呢?but表示但是,此处起加强语气的作用。
64.electric 句意:除了电击,她还收到了语言侮辱以及身体暴力的威胁。结合语境可知此处用形容词做定语。electric“电的”。
65.or 句意:乘公交车或者待在家里。or“或者,否则”。

Some
of
us
think
that
it
is
better
to
see
the
film
than
to
read
a
book
in
the
original.The
reason
is
that
it
takes
less
time
to
understand
the
whole
story.Besides,the
film
is
usually
more
interesting,and
it
is
easier
to
follow.?
Some
others
have
just
the
opposite
opinion.They
think
that
they
can
get
more
detailed
information
from
the
original.Meanwhile,the
language
in
the
book
is
possibly
more
lively
and
beautiful.
Personally,I
agree
with
the
second
view.Actually
I
have
more
reasons
for
it.I
think
I
can
stay
at
home,reading
quietly
in
a
situation
of
my
own,and
what’s
more,I
am
able
to
better
understand
the
author’s
ideas.In
a

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As
a
teacher,my
daily
routine
includes
driving
to
a
new
school
almost
every
day
so
I’m
usually
unable
to
predict
the
day’s
events,good
or
bad!
On
one
particular
day,I
was
teaching
in
a
very
difficult
class.Some
of
the
schoolboys
didn’t
finish
their
homework
on
time
and
that
really
annoyed
me.I
was
managing
behaviour
all
morning
and
by
lunchtime
I
knew
I
needed
coffee
to
even
consider
surviving
the
afternoon.So
on
my
lunchtime,I
drove
to
a
nearby
plaza
to
get
a
cup
of
coffee.There
I
had
a
wonderful
time
and
forgot
the
unpleasant
experience
in
the
morning.Upon
returning
to
the
car,I
realized
I
had
locked
my
keys
and
my
phone
inside!I
had
about
15
minutes
to
get
back
to
the
school
which
was
a
good
4-or-5-minute
drive
away.I
considered
rushing
back,but
it
was
winter,and
I
thought
a
dirty
fall
on
ice
would
only
make
the
situation
much
worse.
So
I
ran
into
a
Mcdonalds
which
was
in
the
same
plaza
and
asked
the
man
at
the
counter
to
call
me
a
cab.The
man
happened
to
be
the
manager
of
the
restaurant.I
briefly
explained
my
situation
to
him,and
I
could
tell
by
the
look
in
his
eyes,that
he
empathized(同情).He
hurried
to
the
back
to
use
the
phone
while
I
paced
in
the
restaurant.I
had
less
than
10
minutes
to
get
back
to
my
school
at
this
point.
The
manager
returned,only
to
tell
me
that
the
cab
company
had
put
him
on
hold
and
then
the
line
got
disconnected,and
that
he
was
now
on
hold
again,but
had
not
yet
been
able
to
request
the
cab
yet.My
expression,I
am
sure,began
to
resemble

combination
of
hopelessness
and
fear.
