You
may
think
that
sailing
is
a
difficult
sport,
but
it
is
really
not
hard
to
learn.You
do
not
need
to
be
strong,
but
you
need
to
be
quick.And
you
need
to
understand
a
few
basic
rules
about
the
wind.
First,
you
must
ask
yourself,
“Where
is
the
wind
coming
from?
Is
it
coming
from
ahead
or
behind
or
from
the
side?”
You
must
think
about
this
all
the
time
on
the
boat.The
wind
direction
tells
you
what
to
do
with
the
sail.
Let's
start
with
the
wind
blowing
from
behind.This
means
the
wind
and
the
boat
are
going
in
the
same
direction.Then
you
must
always
keep
the
sail
outside
the
boat.
It
should
be
at
a
90°
angle
(角)
to
the
boat.Then
it
will
catch
the
wind
best.
If
the
wind
is
blowing
from
the
side,
it
is
blowing
across
the
boat.In
this
case,
you
must
keep
half
of
the
sail
outside
the
boat.It
should
be
at
a
45°
angle
to
the
boat.
It
needs
to
be
out
far
enough
to
catch
the
wind,
but
it
shouldn't
flap
or
look
like
a
flag
on
a
flagpole.If
it
is
flapping,
it
is
probably
out
too
far,
and
the
boat
will
slow
down.
Sailing
against
the
wind
is
not
impossible.If
you
try,
the
sail
will
flap
and
the
boat
will
stop.
You
may
want
to
go
in
that
direction.It
is
possible,
but
you
can't
go
in
a
straight
line.You
must
go
first
in
one
direction
and
then
in
another.This
is
called
tacking(抢风航行).
When
you
are
tacking,
you
must
always
keep
the
sail
inside
the
boat.
1.What
should
you
consider
first
while
sailing?
A.Sailors'
strength.
B.Wave
levels.
C.Wind
directions.
D.Size
of
sails.
First,you
must
ask
yourself,‘Where
is
the
wind
coming
from?Is
it
coming
from
ahead
or
behind
or
from
the
2.What
does
the
underlined
word
“It”
in
Paragraph
4
refer
to?
A.The
boat.
B.The
wind.
C.The
sail.
D.The
angle.
must
keep
half
of
the
sail
outside
the
boat.It
should
be
at
a
45°
angle
to
the
boat.It
needs
to
be
out
far
enough
to
catch
the
wind,but
it
shouldn't
flap
3.What
do
you
have
to
do
when
sailing
against
the
wind?
A.Move
in
a
straight
line.
B.Allow
the
sail
to
flap.
C.Lower
the
sail.
D.Tack
the
boat.
is
possible,but
you
can't
go
in
a
straight
line.
You
must
go
first
in
one
direction
and
then
in
another.This
is
called
tacking(抢风航行).”
the
boat(使船曲折航行)。
4.Where
can
you
probably
find
the
text?
A.In
a
popular
magazine.
B.In
a
tourist
guidebook.
C.In
a
physics
textbook.
D.In
an
official
report.
答案:A
故选A。

In 1838,Pasteur went to college to become a science teacher. He then became a chemistry professor at the University of Strasbourg. He got married in 1849 and had five children. However, three died young from typhoid fever(伤寒症).It was the deaths of his children that drove Pasteur to investigate the infectious disease in order to find a cure.
During Pasteur's time, people believed that bacteria appeared due to “spontaneous generation (自然发生)”.They thought that bacteria just appeared out of nowhere.Pasteur carried out experiments to see if this was true.Through his experiments he proved that germs were living things that came from other living things. They didn't just spontaneously appear. This was a major discovery in the study of biology. Now Pasteur is known as the father of microbiology.Module

W:What
a

it

it

W:Sam,
you've

M:Forgive
you
for
what?
W:I
used
your
computer.
And
I'm
afraid
I've
erased
your
personal
files
by
accident.
M:No!
Are
you
kidding
me?
W:I'm
afraid
not.
I
apologise.
M:I
can't
believe
it!
I
have
all
my
important
personal
documents
stored
in
that
computer.
It's
no
laughing
matter.
W:I
told
you
I'm
sorry.
What
can
I
do
to
make
it
up
to
you?
M:Well,
you
should
be
sorry!
Don't
ever

now.
It's

M:Hello,
could

to
Damon,
please?
W:I'm
sorry;
he's
out
at

M:When
do
you
expect
him
back?
W:I
think
he'll
be
back
in
about
an
hour
at
least.
M:Well,
may
I
leave
a
message?
W:Yes,
of
course.
M:Would
you
please
ask
him
to
call
Chris
when
he
gets
back?
W:OK.
Does
he
know
your
number?
M:I'm
afraid
he
doesn't.
My
mobile
is
13?924?774?026.
W:13?924?774?026.
All
right.
Thanks
for
calling.

someone's

that
may

W:What
do
you
think
is
harder,
reading
or
writing?
M:Well,
they're
completely
different.
Reading
is
passive,
and
writing
is
active.
W:I
don't
think
I
understand
what
you
mean.
Could
you
explain
a
little
more?
M:In
reading
you
need
to
recognize
language
by
seeing
the
words
on
the
page
and
knowing
what
they
are.
In
writing
you
have
to
produce
language,
and
you
have
to
create
your
own
words
on
a
blank
page.
W:Oh,
now
I
see
what
you
mean.
When
you're
reading,
you
are
just
looking,
but
when
you
are
writing,
you
are
actually
doing
something!
M:A
reading
knowledge
of
a
language
is
larger
and
different
from
a
writing
knowledge.
Don't
you
think
so?
W:I
think
I
see
what
you
mean.
I
can
read
Shakespeare
but
I
definitely
can't
write
it.
M:Exactly.

to

M:I
must
say
that
I
feel
quite

You
went

just
yesterday.
W:I
did,
but
an
old
friend
called
me
last
night
and
invited
me
to
his
birthday
party
to
be
held
this
coming
Sunday
evening.
I
need
to
buy
a
gift
for
him.
M:I
see.
What
are
you
going
to
get
him?
W:I
really
have
no
idea
what
he
likes.
I
haven't
seen
him
for
a
long
time.
What
do
you
think?
M:Maybe
a
cake?
W:Well,
that's
a
good
idea,
but
I
think
I
should
probably
get
him
something
else,
like
something
he
can
wear.
M:How
about
a
sweater?
I
saw
a
really
nice
one
in
the
shopping
center
the
other
day.
Maybe
we
can
go
there
and
take
a
look.
W:OK,
what
store
was
it
in?
M:It
was
at
Macy's.
I
think
they're
having
a
sale
this
weekend.
W:Oh,
that's
a
really
nice
store.
I
like
the
clothes
there.

As
it
is
still
the
beginning
of
2017,
some
people
will
have
made
their
New
Year's
plan,
such
as
eating
healthier,
doing
more
exercise
or
maybe
trying
out
a
new
hobby.
However,
instead
of
making
a
list
of
plans,
this
year
I
have
replaced
this
and
decided
to
write
a
“bucket
list”.
The
term
“bucket
list”
was
first
used
in
2006
and
the
name
comes
from
the
expression
“to
kick
the
bucket”,
meaning
“to
die”.
It
is
actually
a
list
of
adventures
and
achievements
that
you
hope
to
finish
within
your
lifetime,
for
example,
traveling
around
Asia.
Some
of
the
things
on
my
bucket
list
are:
1.Road
trip
around
Ireland
2.Go
in
a
hot
air
balloon
3.Travel
around
South
America
4.See
the
Northern
Lights
There
are
many
types
of
bucket
lists,
for
example
a
travel
bucket
list,
such
as
going
on
a
road
trip
around
Europe.
It
could
also
be
a
bucket
list
to
do
with
a
friend
or
partner,
like
watching
the
sunrise
or
going
on
a
day
trip
somewhere.
Or
you
might
make
a
thrill?seeker
bucket
list
including
things
like
swimming
with
sharks
or
going
mountain
climbing.

C
In
modern
society
there
is
a
great
deal
of
argument
about
competition.Some
value
it
highly,
believing
that
it
is
responsible
for
social
progress
and
prosperity.Others
say
that
competition
is
bad,
that
it
sets
one
person
against
another
and
that
it
leads
to
the
unfriendly
relationship
between
people.
I
have
taught
many
children
who
held
the
belief
that
their
self?worth
relied
on
how
well
they
performed
at
tennis
and
other
skills.For
them,
playing
well
and
winning
are
often
life?and?death
affairs.In
their
single?minded
pursuit
of
success,
the
development
of
many
other
human
qualities
is
sadly
forgotten.
However,
while
some
seem
to
be
lost
in
the
desire
to
succeed,
others
take
an
opposite
attitude.In
a
culture
which
values
only
the
winner
and
pays
no
attention
to
the
ordinary
players,people
strongly
blame
competition.Among
the
most
vocal
are
youngsters
who
have
suffered
under
competitive
pressures
from
their
parents
or
society.Teaching
these
young
people,
I
often
observe
in
them
a
desire
to
fail.They
seem
to
seek
failure
by
not
trying
to
win
or
achieve
success.By
not
trying,they
always
have
an
excuse:
“I
may
have
lost,
but
it
doesn't
matter
because
I
really
didn't
try.”
What
is
not
usually
admitted
by
themselves
is
the
belief
that
if
they
had
really
tried
and
lost,
that
would
mean
a
lot.Such
a
loss
would
be
a
measure
of
their
worth.
Clearly,
this
belief
is
the
same
as
that
of
the
true
competitors
who
try
to
prove
themselves.Both
are
based
on
the
mistaken
belief
that
one's
self?respect
relies
on
how
well
one
performs
in
comparison
with
others.Both
are
afraid
of
not
being
valued.Only
as
this
basic
and
often
troublesome
fear
begins
to
dissolve
can
we
discover
a
new
meaning
in
competition.

It
is
natural
that
young
people
are
often
uncomfortable
when
they
are
with
their
parents.
__36__They
often
think
that
their
parents
are
out
of
touch
with
modern
ways,
that
they
are
too
serious
and
too
strict
with
their
children,
and
that
they
seldom
give
their
children
a
free
hand.
It
is
true
that
parents
often
find
it
difficult
to
win
their
children's
trust
and
they
always
forget
how
they
themselves
felt
when
young.
__37__It
is
one
of
their
ways
to
show
that
they
have
grown
up
and
they
can
face
any
difficult
situation.Adults

more
easily.Most
of
them
plan
things
ahead.
Young
people
make
their
parents
angry
with
their
choices
in
clothes,
in
entertainment
and
in
music.But
they
do
not
mean
to
cause
any
trouble:
It
is
just
that
they
feel
cut
off
from
the
adults'
world,
and
they
have
not
yet
been
accepted
into
their
world.__38__And
if
their
parents
do
not
like
their
music
or
entertainment
or
clothes
or
their
way
of
speech,
this
will
make
the
young
people
very
happy.
Sometimes
you
are
so
proud
of
yourself
that
you
do
not
want
your
parents
to
say
“yes”
to
what
you
do.__39__It
is
natural
enough,
after
being
a
child
for
so
many
years,
when
you
were
completely
under
your
parents'
control.
__40__If
your
parents
see
that
you
have
a
high
sense
of
responsibility,
they
will
give
you
the
right
to
do
what
you

A.They

that
their

them.
B.Young

C.All
you

is
to

left
alone
and
do
what
you
like.
D.Young
people
like
to
act
without
much
thinking.
E.If
you
plan
to
control
your
life,
you'd
better
win
your
parents.
F.That's
why
young
people
want
to
make
a
new
culture
of
their
own.
G.Parents

responsible
for意为“对……负责”,为固定搭配。
70.involved
