In
the
early
part
of
the
twentieth
century,
racism
(种族歧视)
was
widespread
in
the
United
States.
Many
African
Americans
were
not
given
equal
opportunities
in
education
or
employment.
Marian
Anderson
(1897?1993)
was
an
African
American
woman
who
gained
fame
as
a
concert
singer
in
this
climate
of
racism.
She
was
born
in
Philadelphia
and
sang
in
church
choirs
during
her
childhood.
When
she
asked
for
admission
to
a
local
music
school
in
1917,
she
was
refused
because
she
was
black.
Unable
to
attend
music
school,
she
began
her
career
as
a
singer
for
religious
activities.
In
1929,
she
went
to
Europe
to
study
voice
and
spent
several
years
performing
there.
Her
voice
was
widely
praised
throughout
Europe.
Then
she
returned
to
the
US
in
1935
and
became
a
top
concert
singer
after
performing
at
Town
Hall
in
New
York
City.
Racism
again
affected
Anderson
in
1939.
When
it
was
arranged
to
sing
at
Constitution
Hall
in
Washington
D.C.,
the
Daughters
of
the
American
Revolution
opposed
(反对)
it
because
of
her
color.
She
sang
instead
at
the
Lincoln
Memorial
for
over
75,000
people.
In
1955,
Anderson
became
the
first
black
soloist
(独唱)
to
sing
in
the
Metropolitan
Opera
of
New
York
City.
The
famous
conductor
Toscanini
praised
her
voice
as
“heard
only
once
in
a
hundred
years”.
She
was
a
US
delegate
(代表)
to
the
United
Nations
in
1958
and
won
the
UN
peace
prize
in
1977.
Anderson
eventually
triumphed
over
racism.
1.According
to
this
passage,
what
did
Marian
Anderson
do
between
1917
and
1929?
A.She
studied
at
a
music
school.
B.She
sang
for
religious
activities.
C.She
sang
at
Town
Hall
in
New
York.
D.She
studied
voice
in
Europe.
2.Toscanini
thought
that
Marian
Anderson
________.
A.had
a
very
rare
(稀有的)
voice
B.sang
occasionally
in
public
C.sang
only
once
in
many
years
D.was
seldom
heard
by
people
3.Anderson's
beautiful
voice
was
first
recognized
________.
A.at
the
Lincoln
Memorial
B.in
Washington
D.C.
C.in
Europe
D.at
the
United
Nations
4.This
passage
shows
that
Anderson
finally
defeated
racism
in
the
US
by
________.
A.opposing
the
government
B.working
for
the
United
Nations
C.singing
in
the
streets
D.working
hard
to
perfect
her
art
B
One
thing
that
seems
to
hold
a
lot
of
people
back
from
setting
and
achieving
big
goals
is
the
need
for
security
(安全).
Security
is
a
feeling
of
certainty
that
everything
is
OK
and
that
all
your
basic
needs
will
be
provided
for.
On
the
surface
there's
nothing
wrong
with
that.
It's
great
to
feel
secure.
Abraham
Maslow
lists
it
as
one
of
the
basic
human
needs.
If
we
don't
feel
secure,
we
can't
move
onto
higher
levels
like
love
and
achievement.
If
we
have
doubts
about
paying
the
rent
at
the
end
of
the
month,
how
can
we
possibly
go
after
our
really
big
dreams?
So
how
is
it
that
some
people
are
able
to
start
a
new
business
while
completely
broke?
Do
business
risk
takers
simply
have
a
lower
need
for
security?
If
you
read
the
stories
of
very
successful
people,
you
see
a
common
pattern
(模式)
again
and
again—from
an
external
(外部的)
point
of
view,
most
of
these
people
were
not
in
a
secure
situation
when
they
started
going
after
their
dreams.
Sylvester
Stallone
was
so
broke
that
he
had
to
sell
his
dog.
Tony
Robbins
did
his
dishes
in
his
bathroom
because
his
small
apartment
had
no
kitchen.
Brian
Tracy
was
a
day
laborer.
Og
Mandino
was
a
homeless
drunk
who
went
into
libraries
to
stay
warm.
While
some
successful
people
start
out
with
a
lot
of
advantages,
most
don't.
Meanwhile,
how
is
it
that
others
who
seem
to
be
in
a
far
more
secure
situation
are
paralyzed
from
taking
action?
People
who
have
some
money
in
the
bank,
a
nice
home,
and
a
highly?paid
job
still
don't
feel
secure.
Meanwhile,
others
with
far
worse
starting
positions
pass
them
by.
Why?
The
reason
isn't
that
some
people
need
security
more
than
others.
I
think
everyone
needs
to
feel
secure.
The
difference,
however,
is
that
the
successful
risk
takers
define
security
internally
(内部地)
while
others
define
security
externally.
5.What's
the
first
paragraph
mainly
about?
A.The
importance
of
security.
B.The
ways
to
achieve
security.
C.The
different
kinds
of
security.
D.The
advantages
of
having
security.
6.The
examples
in
Paragraph
3
show
that
many
successful
people
________.
A.had
a
low
need
for
security
B.could
get
security
very
easily
C.started
from
a
disadvantaged
situation
D.went
through
difficulties
on
the
road
to
success
7.Which
of
the
following
can
replace
the
underlined
word
“paralyzed”
in
Paragraph
4?
A.Prevented.
B.Expected.
C.Protected.
D.Encouraged.
8.How
are
those
successful
people
different
from
common
people
in
terms
of
security?
A.The
way
they
achieve
it.
B.The
way
they
understand
it.
C.The
degree
to
which
they
feel
it.
D.The
degree
to
which
they
need
it.
Ⅱ.阅读七选五
Most
of
us
lead
a
busy
life.
__1__
We
think,
“If
I
reached
my
goal,
then
I
would
be
happy.”
or
“If
I
could
get
a
better
job,
then
I
would
enjoy
life.”
But
why
not
enjoy
life
right
now?
Firstly,
take
time
to
notice
and
appreciate
the
beauty
in
your
own
surroundings
(环境).
__2__
“There
is
a
great
big
world
of
wonder
and
beauty
around
us!”
And
as
Brodersen
explains,
“Look
for
the
beauty
of
the
sunrise
and
of
a
friend's
smile
that
brightens
your
day.
Open
your
eyes
to
see
the
beauty
you
might
not
normally
see.
Doing
so
helps
to
cheer
you
up.”
Secondly,
taking
time
to
experience
some
simple
pleasures
also
can
bring
joy
to
your
heart
and
reduce
your
stress.
Take
me
for
example.
__3__
One
universal
simple
pleasure
is
finding
things
that
make
you
laugh.
Make
time
to
laugh
every
day.
Thirdly,
don't
take
your
family
and
friends
for
granted.
Rich,
rewarding
relationships
add
greatly
to
the
enjoyment
of
life.
When
you
think
of
someone,
why
not
call,
e?mail
or
write
then?
__4__
As
Wayne
Lawton
explains,
“Invest
(投入)
time
in
relationships.
Remove
the
attitude,
what's
in
it
for
me?
Happiness
is
found
in
putting
other's
interests,
desires
and
concerns
ahead
of
our
own
whenever
possible.
Selfishness
(自私)
is
a
dead?end
street.”__5__
A.Discover
the
beauty
in
nature.
B.So
please
treasure
relationship.
C.You
don't
need
to
travel
far
to
find
beauty.
D.Driven
by
the
“urgent”,
we
forget
to
enjoy
life.
E.In
my
spare
time,
I
enjoy
collecting
stamps
and
reading
novels.
F.A
short
e?mail
or
phone
call
can
make
a
world
of
difference
to
someone.
G.I
delight
in
simple
things
like
my
favorite
tea
drink,
a
bubble
bath
or
family
photos.

【语篇解读】 本文是议论文。安全感是一种人类与生俱来的需求,可是,成功人士与普通人对安全感的定义并不相同。
5.答案与解析:A 段落大意题。第一段虽然也涉及安全感的定义,但是主要是说明安全感对我们的重要性。作者先指出安全感是“one
of
the
basic
human
needs”,接下来又做出两种假设,来说明缺乏安全感的后果。因此A项正确。
6.答案与解析:C 推理判断题。由第三段可知,作者列举的都是一些成功人士,他们在刚开始都是穷困潦倒或处境艰难,由此判断C项正确。
7.答案与解析:A 词义猜测题。上文提到那些成功人士往往起步时处境极其艰难。根据下文可知,那些经济富足、处境优越的人依然感到不安全,也就是说他们不愿意采取行动去冒险,故A项正确。
8.答案与解析:B 细节理解题。根据最后一段可知,那些成功的冒险者在内部定义安全感,而普通人则在外部定义安全感。这也是这两类人在安全感方面最大的区别,因此B项正确。

I

my
son,
but
I
did
not
expect
to
be
having
such
a
conversation
with
him
at
thirteen
years
of
age.
Earlier
this
year,
he
expressed
his
wish
to
go
to
one
of
the
biggest
public
high
schools
in
our
small
city.
He
told
me
that
he
wanted
to
go
there
because
several
of
his
longtime
friends
were
also
going.
I
fought
back
the
thought
to
roll
my
eyes.
I
told
him
that
if
he
went
to
this
school,
he
would
be
going
from
a
class
size
of
18
to
being
one
of
several

in
the
freshman
class.
He
wouldn't

He

him
a

He

Then,
we

Later
that
night,
as

we
had
a

a
list
of
reasons.
First,
he

that
he
would
have
more

Besides,
attending
this
school
would
better
prepare
him
for
college
because
he
would
learn
what
it
was
like
on
a
big
campus

He
added
that
he
would
learn
to
manage
his
time
and
take
ownership
of
his
schoolwork.
He
also
promised
that
he
would
make
use
of
the
drop?in

the
school
offered
if
he
should
ever
run
into
trouble.
I
sat

listened,
impressed

the
thought

research
that
he
had
prepared.
Honestly,
I
could
have
put
my
foot
down
and
said
“no,”
or
“just
wait
another
year,”
but
I
would
have
been
doing
that
for
me,
not
for
him.
At
last,
we
let
our
son
have
the
final
say
on
choosing
a
high
school.
I
knew
if
my
kid
put
forth
the
same
effort
as
he
did
in
persuading
(说服)
us,
he
would
be
perfectly
fine
in
high
school.

D.She

B
A
year
ago,
my
friend
and
I
went
to
a
nearby
town
to
attend
a
wedding.
After
the
reception,
we
were
waiting
for
a
bus
to
go
back
home.
It
was
nine
o'clock
at
night,
and
although
many
buses
passed,
none
stopped.
We
waited
for
an
hour
and
were
getting
desperate.
We
wouldn't
be
able
to
stay
overnight
(在夜里)
because
it
was
a
weekday,
and
we
both
needed
to
work
the

It
was
almost
10
p.m.
when
a
family
who
had
attended
the
same
wedding
passed
by
in
their
car.
Probably
sensing
that
we
were
waiting
for
some
means
of
transport,
they
stopped
and
gave
us
a
lift.
I
was
so
touched
by
their
kindness,
and
I
expressed
my
thanks
to
them.
When
we
reached
my
hometown,
the
family
dropped
us
at
the
nearest
point
from
where
we
could
catch
a
shared
taxi
to
get
back
to
the
spot
where
we
had
parked
our
bike.
On
the
way,
a
worker
stopped
the
taxi.
The
driver
saw
his
clothes
and
asked
him
whether
he
had
money
to
pay
the
fare
(车费).
The
worker
shook
his
head
and
said,
“No.”
On
hearing
this,
the
driver
refused
to
take
him.
I
remembered
my
own
plight
a
few
minutes
earlier,
and
I
told
the
driver
to
allow
him
to
sit
with
us,
as
I
would
pay
his
fare,
What
an
immediate
opportunity
to
pass
on
the
family's
act
of
kindness!
That
night,
I
felt
light?hearted
and
I
went
to
sleep
happily
and
filled
with
joy
about
what
I
had
done.
May
this
chain
of
kindness
continue!

【语篇解读】 本文是记叙文。作者的孩子想要选择一所大的公立学校读高中,作者对此忧心忡忡。但最终,孩子用强有力的理由说服了作者。
1.答案与解析:C 推理判断题。在第三段中作者列举了诸多事实,向她的孩子说明与他目前所上的学校相比,公立学校有许多不便之处,包括班级人数众多、无法得到老师的特别关注、上课时间变长、晚上写作业等,因此可推断,作者得知孩子想要上公立学校时,认为这不是个明智的决定。
2.答案与解析:A 推理判断题。在第三段中作者列举事实希望打消孩子上公立学校的念头,但由第四段中的“however”和“He
would
need
to
come
up
with
a
list
of
valid
reasons.”可知,孩子仍然坚持上公立学校。因此推断,画线部分内容表示孩子并没有气馁,即他没有改变主意。
3.答案与解析:B 推理判断题。由倒数第三段中的“He
added
that
he
would
learn
to
manage
his
time
and
take
ownership
of
his
schoolwork.”可知,他提供的理由之一是,他将学会自己管理时间并安排学业,即他将会变得更加独立。

let
our
son
have
the
final
say
on
choosing
a
high
school.”可知,最终,作者决定让孩子自己选择高中学校。

his
head
and
said,
‘No.’
On
hearing
this,
the
driver
refused
to
take
him.”可知,司机在得知这个工人没钱付车费时,断然拒绝了他的乘车请求,因此选择A项。
7.答案与解析:B'词义猜测题。文章第一、二段介绍了作者在遇到困难时得到热心人帮助的事情,所以画线词所在句“I
remembered
my
own
plight
a
few
minutes
earlier”表示作者想到了自己几分钟前遭遇的困境,由此推断画线词词义为“困难,麻烦”,故选择B项。
8.答案与解析:C'主旨大意题。通读全文,作者介绍了自己先得到帮助,之后又帮助了别人的经历。最后一句“May
this
chain
of
kindness
continue!”点题,故选择C项。

Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
Kong
Zi,
also
called
Confucius
(551—479
B.C.),
and
Socrates
(469—399
B.C.)
lived
only
a
hundred
years
apart.
During
their
lifetimes
there
was
no
contact
between
China
and
Greece,
but
it
is
interesting
to
look
at
how
the
world
that
each
of
these
great
philosophers
came
from
shaped
their
ideas,
and
how
these
ideas
in
turn,
shaped
their
societies.
Neither
philosopher
lived
in
times
of
peace,
though
there
were
more
wars
in
Greece
than
in
China.
The
Chinese
states
were
very
large
and
feudal,
while
the
Greek
city?states
were
small
and
urban.
The
urban
environment
in
which
Socrates
lived
allowed
him
to
be
more
radical
(激进的)
than
Confucius.
Unlike
Confucius,
Socrates
was
not
asked
by
rulers
how
to
govern
effectively.
Thus,
Socrates
was
able
to
be
more
idealistic,
focusing
on
issues
like
freedom,
and
knowledge
for
its
own
sake.
Confucius,
on
the
other
hand,
advised
those
in
government
service,
and
many
of
his
students
went
on
to
government
service.
Confucius
suggested
the
Golden
Rule
as
a
principle
for
the
conduct
of
life.
“Do
not
do
to
others
what
you
would
not
want
others
to
do
to
you.”
He
assumed
that
all
men
were
equal
at
birth,
though
some
had
more
potential
(潜能)
than
others,
and
that
it
was
knowledge
that
set
men
apart.
Socrates
focused
on
the
individual,
and
thought
that
the
greatest
purpose
of
man
was
to
seek
wisdom.
He
believed
that
some
had
more
potential
to
develop
their
reason
than
others
did.
Like
Confucius,
he
believed
that
the
superior
class
should
rule
the
inferior
(下层的)
classes.
For
Socrates,
the
family
was
of
no
importance,
and
the
community
of
little
concern.
For
Confucius,
however,
the
family
was
the
centre
of
society,
with
family
relations
considered
much
more
important
than
political
relations.
Both
men
are
respected
much
more
today
than
they
were
in
their
lifetimes.
1.Which
of
the
following
is
TRUE
according
to
the
first
paragraph?
A.Socrates
and
Confucius
had
much
in
common.
B.Confucius
had
much
influence
on
Socrates'
ideas.
C.The
societies
were
influenced
by
the
philosophers'
ideas.
D.There
were
cultural
exchanges
between
China
and
Greece.
2.Socrates
shared
with
Confucius
the
idea
that
________.
A.all
men
were
equal
when
they
were
born
B.the
lower
classes
should
be
ruled
by
the
upper
class
C.the
purpose
of
man
was
to
seek
freedom
and
wisdom
D.people
should
not
do
to
others
what
they
did
not
want
others
to
do
to
them
3.What
made
some
people
different
from
others
according
to
Confucius?
A.Family.
B.Potential.
C.Knowledge.
D.Community.
4.This
passage
is
organized
in
the
pattern
of
________.
A.time
and
events
B.comparison
and
contrast
C.cause
and
effect
D.definition
and
classification
B
The
first
CCTV
(closed?circuit
television)
cameras
appeared
in
Britain
in
1953,
and
by
the
1960s
there
were
already
a
few
cameras
in
major
streets
in
London.
Today,
there
are
more
than
four
million
CCTV
cameras
across
the
country.
That's
one
camera
for
every
fourteen
people.
The
cameras
are
there
to
film
dangerous
or
illegal
behaviour.
With
new
software,
they
can
recognise
the
faces
of
known
criminals,
and
a
new
kind
of
CCTV
in
the
Netherlands
can
discover
angry
voices
and
warn
the
police
of
trouble.
But
these
cameras
don't
just
watch
criminals;
they
watch
all
of
us,
almost
all
of
the
time.
Every
time
we
go
into
a
shop,
or
use
a
cash
machine,
or
travel
on
public
transport,
a
camera
records
our
actions.
The
amount
of
surveillance
(监视)
in
towns
and
cities
across
Britain
is
increasing.
Some
goods
in
shops
now
have
RFID
(Radio
Frequency
Identification)
tags
(标签)
stuck
on
them.
When
you
pick
up
one
of
these
things,
the
RFID
tag
sends
a
radio
message
to
a
CCTV
camera
and
the
camera
starts
filming
you.
Shops
say
that
this
technology
helps
to
catch
shoplifters—but
only
by
treating
everybody
as
a
possible
criminal.
Cameras
and
tags
are
not
the
only
ways
of
monitoring
(监视)
our
actions.
Every
time
you
make
or
receive
a
call
on
your
mobile
phone,
the
phone
company
knows
the
number
of
the
phone
you
are
calling
and
how
long
the
call
lasts.
It
is
even
possible
to
work
out
your
exact
location.
And
what
about
satellites
(卫星)?
Are
they
watching
us
from
space?
How
much
can
they
see?
Anybody
with
a
computer
can
download
Google
Earth
and
get
satellite
photos
of
the
entire
world.
Even
when
you
are
at
home,
you
are
not
necessarily
safe
from
surveillance.
When
you
use
your
computer
to
visit
websites,
you
are
probably
sending
and
receiving
cookies
without
realising
it.
Cookies
move
information
from
your
computer
to
the
website
and
record
which
websites
you
visit.
Modern
technology
is
making
it
easier
and
easier
to
stay
in
touch,
but
it
is
also
making
it
nearly
impossible
for
us
to
hide.
5.What
are
CCTV
cameras
mainly
used
to
do?
A.To
film
street
crime.
B.To
warn
the
police
of
trouble.
C.To
record
everybody's
actions.
D.To
educate
people
on
safety.
6.CCTV
cameras
receive
a
message
from
RFID
tags
when
________.
A.a
thing
is
stolen
B.the

C.somebody
goes
into
the

D.a

several
things
that
seemed
unusual
to
me
happened.
First,
I
was
surprised
that
people
were
eating
during
the
movie.
Usually,
popcorn,
candy
and
soda
water
__3__
(sell)
in
the
theatre.
Such
things
can
hardly
__4__
(see)
in
my
homeland.
However,
they
__5__
(sell)
well
in
the
US,
and
young
people
love
eating
them.
I
don't
understand
why
people
buy
food
to
eat
during
the
movie.
Also,
before
the
movie
was
shown,
a
lot
of
people
were
talking.
But
as
soon
as
the
movie
got
__6__
(start),
everyone
became
quiet.
Another
unusual
thing
was
that
at
the
end
of
the
movie,
nobody
applauded.
While
the
credits
were
__7__
(show),
people
were
leaving.
It
was
also
strange
to
me
that
popcorn
boxes
and
candy
wrappers
__8__
(leave)
on
the
floor
of
the
theatre.
I
was
also
surprised
that
the
movie
theatre
was
so
small
and
narrow.
I
__9__
(tell)
that
the
theatre
was
big
at
one
time.
But
it
__10__
(divide)
into
several
small
theatres
so
that
several
movies
could
be
shown
at
the
same
time.
It
was
said
that
more
money
could
be
made
in
that
way.
课时作业(六)
Ⅰ.阅读理解
【语篇解读】 本文主要是阐述孔子与苏格拉底两位伟大哲学家的哲学思想对社会的影响以及思想观点的相似与不同。
1.答案与解析:C 细节理解题。根据文章第一段最后一句后半句“...and
how
these
ideas
in
turn,
shaped
their
societies.”可知C项正确。
2.答案与解析:B 细节理解题。根据第三段最后一句“Like
Confucius,
he
believed
that
the
superior
class
should
rule
the
inferior
(下层的)
classes.”可以判断。
3.答案与解析:C 细节理解题。根据文章第三段中“...and
that
it
was
knowledge
that
set
men
apart.”可以判断。
4.答案与解析:B 篇章结构题。文章的整篇布局主要是以比较和对照来阐述两位伟大哲学家孔子与苏格拉底的哲学思想对社会的影响以及思想观点的相似与不同的。故B项正确。
【语篇解读】 本文是说明文。闭路电视摄像机、手机、卫星和电脑网络等现代科技时刻都在监视着人们,这使得人们无处躲藏。
5.答案与解析:C'推理判断题。由第二段中的“these
cameras
don't
just
watch
criminals;
they
watch
all
of
us,
almost
all
of
the
time.”和“Every
time
we...a
camera
records
our
actions.”可知,闭路电视摄像机主要用于记录每个人的行为。
6.答案与解析:D'细节理解题。由第三段中的“When
you
pick
up
one
of
these
things,
the
RFID
tag
sends
a
radio
message
to
a
CCTV
camera
and
the
camera
starts
filming
you”可知,贴有RFID标签的东西一旦被拿起,闭路电视摄像机就会接收到无线电信息。
7.答案与解析:C'推理判断题。由上文介绍闭路电视摄像机和RFID标签的功能都是为了监控人们的行为,和本段提及卫星所说的“Are
they
watching
us
from
space?
How
much
can
they
see?”以及“satellite
photos
of
the
entire
world”可知,因为能拍到整个地球,因此卫星也可以被叫做天眼。
8.答案与解析:A'主旨大意题。文章先是介绍闭路电视摄像机的功能“records
our
actions”,再介绍手机公司对移动电话的监控,接着又提及卫星可以拍摄全球范围内的照片和电脑网络时刻记录用户行踪,最后总结“Modern
technology...
making
it
nearly
impossible
for
us
to
hide.”由此可知,现代科技使得人们无处躲藏,因为时刻都在被监视。故A项作标题符合本文主旨。
Ⅱ.阅读七选五
【语篇解读】 文章介绍了好的书写的重要性和如何写好字。
1.答案与解析:C'C选项意为“然而,不好的书写习惯很难改变”,与空后的“It

3.答案与解析:B'根据后面的“Try
to
hold
the
pen
lightly
and
don't
press
too
hard.”可知,此处表达的是要练习不同的握笔方法。故选B。
4.答案与解析:E'E选项意为“如果你很漫不经心地在纸上写很多O,这是没有帮助的”,与空前的“Be
careful
with
each
O
that
you
write”存在逻辑上的衔接。故选E。
5.答案与解析:G'根据空前的“You

There
are
so
many
to
choose
from!
I
love
Robert

especially
“Mending

mostly
because
he
is
my
dad's
favorite
poet.
However,
personally
I
love
Langston
Hughes's
poem
“Dreams”
because
it
always
brings
happiness
to
me.
I
am
also
a
big
fan
of
the
older
poems,
such
as
Spenser's
“One
Day
I
Wrote
Her
Name
Upon
the
Strand”
because
it
is
so
simple,
and
“The
Tyger”
and
“The
Lamb”
by
William
Blake
because
I
love
the
language.

My

“Borderlands”,
which

if
I
have
to,
I'd
say
Emily
Dickinson.
Her

her
opinions
about

are
also
interesting.
Her
understanding

nature
speaks
to

Dickinson
also
understood
human
nature
very
well.
Her
poems
speak
of
love,

etc.
Finally,
my
favorite
poem
by
her
is
“I

I

I
always
wanted
to
be
a
firefighter.
It
seemed
exciting
to
me.
I
like
to
be
outside,
lift
heavy
things
and
sleep
on
the
ground!
In
college,
I
got
a
job
with
the
forest
service.
My
first
week
on
the
job,
they
asked
if
I
wanted
to
get
my
red
card
(training
for
forest
fires).
I
said
yes!
The
training
was
a
week
long.
I
learned
about
the
different
types
of
fire
crews
(工作人员)
and
I
remember
the
instructor
saying
hotshots
were
the
top
dogs.
He
said
they
had
the
most
difficult
and
dangerous
job
and
that
you
had
to
really
prove
yourself
in
order
to
be
a
hotshot.
I
was
sold.
I
didn't
want
to
do
anything
else!
However,
hotshot
crews
don't
hire
(雇佣)
people
without
fire
experience.
I
returned
home
from
training
to
Logan
where
the
Logan
Hotshots
are
based.
I
walked
in
and
told
the
boss
I
wanted
to
be
a
hotshot
and
they
should
keep
me
in
mind
if
they
needed
anyone.
The
very
next
day
I
got
a
note
saying
the
Hotshots
were
looking
for
me!
A
woman
on
their
crew
got
injured
and
they
needed
a
replacement...
they
were
headed
to
a
fire
that
day.
They
thought
of
me
because
I
had
just
been
there
the
day
before.
We
arrived
at
the
fire
near
Provo,
Utah
at
about
10
p.m.
that
night.
We
ended
up
working
40
hours,
digging
fire
lines.
I
think
I
fell
asleep
standing
up
against
my
tool
at
one
point.
My
feet
were
covered
in
blisters
(水泡)
and
the
helicopter
that
was
supposed
to
pick
us
up
at
the
top
of
the
mountain
broke
down
and
we
had
to
walk
miles!
To
my
delight,
the
crew
liked
me
and
hired
me
after
that.
I
also
met
my
husband
that
night!
How
cool
is
that!

To
adjust
(使适应)
your

to
the
world,educating
him
is
your
main
assignment.
How
will
you
educate
him?
What
role
will
he
play
in
the
world?
According
to
Darwin's
theory
of
evolution
of
the
species,we
are
a
competitive
species
and
one
survives
by
adapting
itself
biologically
to
various
environments
through
various
petition
was
a
resource
useful
for
the
progress
of
society
and
for
the
survival
of
human
beings.
Today,however,the
challenges
are
different.
The
21st
century
is
a
computer
science
age,but
there
are
environmental
imbalances,deaths
of
thousands
of
children
every
day
by
starvation
and
countless
epidemics
(流行病).
Therefore,it
is
important
that
the
philosophy
of
preparing
our
children
for
competition
and
power
be
replaced
by
one
of
preparing
them
for
love
and
cooperation
(合作).
The
earth
is
a
unique
(独一无二的)
home
to
us
all.
The
ecological
balance
has
to
be
pursued
(追求)
and
this
pursuit
shows
the
internal
balance
of
each
living
being.
We
must
educate
our
children
so
that
they
want
to
protect
nature
and
thus
to
protect
the
opportunity
to
make
themselves
more
powerful
and
able
in
society.
Our
children
have
to
learn
that
we
don't
need
to
practice
actions
that
benefit
only
our
homeland
while
all
other
countries
are
destroyed.
The
destruction
of
other
countries
and
lives
leads
to
the
impossibility
of
the
future
existence
of
the
place
we
call
home.
It
imbalances
the
ecosystem
and
shades
the
hope
of
a
better
future.
We
would
not
show
hate
to
a
flower,grabbing
it
and
throwing
it
to
the
floor
and
stepping
on
it.
It
would
be
foolish!But
we
are
insensitive
to
the
sight
of
a
homeless
person
thrown
to
the
ground
and
pretend
it's
not
our
problem!Competition
has
led
us
to
a
state
of
total
insensibility!Therefore,we
must
teach
our
children
that
the
main
necessity
of
men
is
love.
Love
is
being
good
to
ourselves,others
and
nature.
28.According
to
Paragraph
2,competition
is________.
A.interesting
B.beneficial
C.unnecessary
D.ineffective
29.Why
should
we
prepare
children
for
cooperation
in
the
21st
century?
A.We
are
faced
with
new
challenges.
B.Many
diseases
are
threatening
people.
C.They
will
live
in
a
more
competitive
society.
D.Environmental
imbalance
has
caused
many
deaths.
30.What
is
the
benefit
of
keeping
an
ecological
balance?
A.It
will
help
keep
our
internal
balance.
B.Our
kids
will
have
more
chances
to
succeed.
C.It
will
help
make
our
future
existence
possible.
D.Our
kids
will
have
a
better
natural
environment.
31.What
is
the
purpose
of
this
text?
A.To
suggest
an
education
of
love
and
cooperation.
B.To
explain
the
role
competition
plays
in
education.
C.To
introduce
ways

children
overcome
fears.

he
used
a
racist
(种族主义的)
word
for
black
people.
He
told
Natasha
that
black
people
weren't
“allowed
on
the
sidewalk”.
Another
male
student
was
nearby.
“Boy,that's
not
cool,”he
said
to
the
first
student.
The
first
student
made
another
rude
comment.
Then
the
two
guys
walked
away.
Natasha
had
never
experienced
such
racism
at
Baylor
before.
She
wanted
to
let
other
people
know
what
had
happened.
When
Natasha
got
home
from
class,she
made
a
video,calmly
describing
what
had
happened
on
the
sidewalk.
Then
she
posted
the
video
on
Facebook.
Two
days
later,Natasha
got
ready
to
walk
to
science
class
again.
She
was
still
hurt,angry
and
sad.
But
when
she
stepped
outside,she
couldn't
believe
what
she
saw:300
people
were
waiting
for
her.
They
had
come
to
walk
her
to
class.
There
were
white
faces
and
black
faces
and
Asian
faces
in
the
crowd.
They
were
Natasha's
fellow
students.
And
they
were
united
in
their
anger
about
what
had
happened
to
her.
They
were
there
to
make
it
clear
that
racism
is
never
OK.
The
crowd
cheered
when
Natasha
appeared.
She
fought
back
tears.
The
students
linked
arms
and
walked
across
campus
(校园)
together.
Outside
her
classroom,Natasha
spoke
to
the
crowd.
“You
have
no
idea
how
much
this
means
to
me,”
she
said.
She
praised
the
second
male
student-the
one
who
had
stood
up
for
her.
Then
she
spoke
about
the
student
who
had
shoved
(推)
her
and
said
such
hateful
things.
“To
the
gentleman
who
said
those
words,”
Natasha
said,“I'm
praying
for
you,and
I
love
you.
We
just
want
to
see
the
world
become
a
better
place.”

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When
I
saw
her
tonight
she
smiled
and
recognized
me.I
smiled
back
at
her.
She
was
looking
more
relaxed
even
though
she
was
still
busy
doing
her
job.
I
have
noticed
her
several
times
this
last
few
months
and
she
always
looks
so
much
happier
now.
Tonight
when
I
talked
with
her
I
noticed
her
name
tag.
Her
name
is
Pamela.
Pamela
works
at
the
express
checkouts
in
a
busy
supermarket.
She
deals
with
problems
when
the
self?service
checkout
experiences
a
problem
(no
price
on
product,machine
problems,etc.).
She
monitors
these
checkouts
and
usually
has
hardly
dealt
with
one
complaint
before
another
is
created.
When
I
first
talked
to
Pamela,I
had
called
her
to
the
checkout
I
was
using.
There
wasn't
any
problem
with
the
checkout
though.
My
problem
or
should
I
say
concern
was
about
Pamela.
She
looked
tired
and
was
under
a
lot
of
stress
as
she
quickly
moved
from
one
checkout
to
the
next.
It's
a
bit
of
a
fire?fighting
job.
I
told
Pamela
that
she
needed
to
slow
down.
I
told
her
she
wasn't
getting
paid
enough
to
be
working
as
hard
as
she
was
working.
I
told
her
that
we,the
customers,could
wait
and
it
was
very
bad
for
her
health
to
be
putting
herself
under
such
pressure.
I
told
her
that
our
expectations
were
not
as
hard
as
the
ones
she
set
for
herself.
Pamela
told
me
she
would
slow
down.
I
could
tell
she
was
touched
that
not
only
did
I
notice
her
stress
but
I
chose
to
talk
to
her
about
it
and
was
concerned
for
her
health.
I
gently
told
her
things
had
to
change.
I
told
her
I
would
be
looking
out
for
her
in
future
to
see
if
she
had
taken
my
advice
on
board.
She
smiled
and
said,“I
promise
that
I
will
next
time.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
When
I

will
be
busy
the

afternoon.
He
is
having
a

conference.
Can
you
manage
it
at

(Text

M:I'm
so
tired.
I've
spent
the
entire
morning
in
selling
my
car.
W:Selling
your
car?
Don't
you
like
it
or
isn't
it
new?
M:No,my
company
is
moving
me
to
Europe
next
month.
So
I
intend
to
buy
a
new
one
over
there.
(Text

W:What's
the
matter,Tom?
You
look
unhappy.
M:No,not
really.
I'm
only
worrying
about
my
maths
exam.
(Text
4)
W:I
find
listening
most
difficult.
What
can
I
do?
M:Don't
worry.
Listen
to
English
tapes
every
day,
and
you
will
make
great
progress.
The
more
you
listen,the
easier
you
will
find
it.
(Text

W:Excuse
me.
Have
you
been
waiting
long?
M:About
ten
minutes.
W:Did
you
notice
whether
the
No.
7
bus
had
gone
by?
M:Not
while
I've
been
standing
here.
I'm
waiting
for
the
Number
Seven
myself.
(Text
6)
W:Hello,Mike!
Can
you
spare
me
a
few
minutes?
M:Yes,
please.
W:My
name
is
Kate
and
I'm
sent
here
to
have
an
interview
with
you.
M:Glad
to
meet
you!
W:Judging
from
your
accent,you
are
from
America?
M:Right.
But
I
have
lived
here
for
more
than
ten
years.
W:Wow,
over
ten
years?
Then
you
came
to
live
here
after
your
graduation
from
university.
M:Oh,no.
I
began
to
live
here
when
I
went
to
study
in
Oxford
University.
There
I
met
my
wife,Sharon.
After
graduation,I
married
Sharon
and
began
to
work
here.
W:However,
why
haven't
you
changed
your
accent
in
so
many
years?
M:Maybe
I
was
influenced
too
much
by
American
language.
W:You
must
be
used
to
the
life
here,aren't
you?
M:Quite
right.
I'm
used
to
living
here.
(Text
7)
W:I'm
terribly
sorry
I'm
late.
M:Oh,that's
all
right.
It
doesn't
really
matter,does
it?
I
haven't
got
anything
better
to
do,have
I?
W:Just
let
me
explain,will
you?
M:I
have
only
been
waiting
for
over
an
hour.
That's
all.
W:Yes,I
know
and
I
would
have...
M:After
all,
my
time
isn't
really
that
important,
is
it
?
W:Please
don't
be
like
that.
Just
let
me
explain.
I...
I
tried
to
get
here
in
time
but
just
after
I
left
home,the
car
broke
down.
M:The
car
broke
down?
W:Yes,and...
well...
Luckily...
there
was
a
garage
near
me.
And
it
took
them
a
while
to
repair
it.
M:Which
garage?
W:The
one
near
my
flat,
you
know.
Lewis
Brothers.
Well,
let's
have
something
to
eat.
What
about
some...
M:I
know
the
garage
very
well!
W:Yes.
Let's
see
now.
Yes,I
think
I'll
have
some...
M:A
pity
it's
Sunday.
The
garage
is
closed
on
Sunday!
(Text
8)
M:Now
we
have
five-day
classes
every
week,so
we
have
more
spare
time
than
before.
W:How
do
you
spend
your
spare
time,Timmy?
M:I
have
interest
in
playing
the
violin
and
I'll
continue
to
practise
playing
it.
W:Do
you
often
take
part
in
a
concert?
M:Yes,
I
like
listening
to
some
music.
At
present
my
major
objective
is
to
learn
from
others.
W:Do
you
like
classical
music
or
pop?
M:I
like
both.
How
do
you
spend
your
spare
time
then,Lily?
W:Playing
the
piano
is
my
favorite
activity.
M:Our
hobbies
are
similar
to
each
other.
I
hope
we
can
often
exchange
experience
together.
W:So
do
I,but
I'm
weak
in
the
theory
of
music.
M:Me
too.
Would
you
like
to
go
with
me
to
see
my
uncle?
He's
a
professor
of
the
Institute
of
Music.
W:I'm
glad
to
go
with
you.
I
would
ask
him
for
some
advice.
(Text
9)
M:Can
you
tell
me
how
to
get
to
the
Music
Building
from
here?
I
have
a
lecture
to
attend
there.
W:Oh,are
you
new
here?
M:Yes,
I
just
got
here
last
night.
W:Well,
to
go
to
the
Music
Building,
you
have
two
choices.
If
you
want
to
go
right
now,you
can
walk
straight
down
this
street
until
a
post
office,
and
then
turn
right.
The
Music
Building
will
be
straight
ahead.
M:How
long
will
it
take
me
to
get
there?
W:About
twenty
minutes.
M:What's
the
other
choice?
W:If
you
don't
mind
waiting
around
for
a
while,
you
can
take
the
shuttle
bus.
The
bus
only
takes
about
five
minutes
to
get
there.
M:Well,I
guess
I
might
as
well
walk.

Victor's
hobby
was
collecting
stamps.
He
had
stamps
from
other
countries,
like
England,Canada
and
China.
On
his
birthday,can
you
guess
what
people
gave
him?
That's
right—stamps.
Victor's
favourite
stamps
came
from
France.
He
had
almost
every
stamp
from
1954
to
2009.
He
only
needed
one.
That
was
a
1974
special
edition.
It
was
very
hard
to
find.
He
looked
for
it
everywhere.
He
asked
his
friends
and
relatives
to
help
him.
But
nobody
could
find
the
stamp.
It
made
Victor
very
sad.
“Don't
worry.
Never
give
up,”
his
father
said
to
him.“If
you
have
enough
patience,you'll
find
one
one
day.”
“I
hope
so,”
Victor
said.
Victor
also
liked
writing.
He
had
a
penfriend
in
France.
They
wrote
to
each
other
every
month.
Victor's
penfriend,
Phillip,
usually
used
new
stamps
to
send
letters.
Sometimes,
his
mother
gave
him
some
stamps.
Once
Phillip's
mother
gave
him
a
big,green
stamp.
It
looked
old.
When
Victor
received
the
letter,
he
was
very
surprised.He
looked
carefully
at
the
stamp.
It
was
the
1974
special
edition
stamp.
Victor
was
so
happy.
He
told
his
sister,
his
mother
and
his
father.
“You
see,”
his
father
said,
“you
did
find
your
stamp.
So,
it's
good
to
have
two
things
in
life.”
“What
are
they?”
Victor
asked.
“Friends
and
patience,
”his
father
answered.

第二节
参考答案:
When
I
saw
her
she
was
still
doing
her
job
but
there
was
such
a
difference.
I
praised
the
new
her.
Now
Pamela
said
that
other
customers
would
have
to
wait
for
their
turn
while
she
dealt
with
another
customer.
She
told
me
the
change
had
significantly
improved
her
health.
She
added
that
she'd
also
shared
what
I
said
with
her
colleagues.
As
I
walked
away
from
Pamela
my
heart
was
lightened.
She
has
taken
my
advice
on
board
and
tried
to
slow
down
her
working
pace.
A
day's
work
means
just
that.
It
doesn't
mean
that
one
should
put
two
days'
work
into
one
day.
I
am
proud
of
myself.
Not
only
have
I
caused
Pamela
to
reflect
on
the
pressure
she
was
putting
herself
under,but
also
she
in
turn
has
encouraged
her
colleagues
in
the
supermarket
to
do
the
same.
I
really
feel
very
happy
and
satisfied
for
my
concern
and
act
of
kindness
do
make
a
difference
to
those
in
need.
It's
just
a
simple
act
of
love
that
costs
no
money.
So
my
friends,our
kindness
doesn't
have
to
be
material,but
just
loving.
Bless
you
all
for
all
you
do
for
others.
