1. 定义：用句子作状语,来说明一件事情发生的时间,地点,原因,条件,结果等.
2. 分类：时间，地点，条件，原因，让步，目的，方式，结果，比较等９种．
3 学习方法：（1）弄清每种状语从句的连接词（既从属连词）．
（2）弄清不同连接词之间的区别．
4. 常用连词：
时间状语从句
when 当……的时候 I loved history when I was at school.Call me when you’ve finished.
既然，考虑到 Why do you want to find another job when you already have a good one
就在那时，突然 I was walking in the street when I came across an old friend of mine. I had gone to bed after a very hard day when the phone rang.He was on the point of leaving when someone knocked at the gate.He was about to tell me the secret when someone patted him on the shoulder.
while 当……的时候 I looked after the kids while she was away.
(表对比)然而，却 This shirt fits better while that one has a nicer design.
as 在……的同时，随着 As time goes by, he seems to become more and more confused.
因为，由于 As he is a qualified doctor, I trust his advice on medical matter.
正如，一样 As I told you before, you will be required to give a five-minute oral report
Until/till 某动作一直延续到某时间点才停止 He remained there until she arrived.
某动作直到某时间才开始 He won’t go to bed until /till he finishes his homework
before 在……之前 Three weeks went by before she realized her mistakes.（在……之后）It won’t be long before we take another exam. （会）It was a long time before he came back. （才） Read the whole passage before you answer the questions. （再）Before she could think twice, the water was upon her. （还没来得及）
It will be/take+段时间+before…一般现在时 要过多久某事才发生It was/took+段时间+before…一般过去时 过了一段时间发生了某事 It won’t be long before we know the result of the experiment.It was some time before I realized the truth.
since 自从 I have known him since she joined the Chinese Society.
It is/has been+一段时间+since从句+ 一般过去时 It is three years since the war broke out.It is three years since he lived here.他不住在这儿三年了。
the moment 一……就 The baby stopped crying the moment she was given milk.
as soon as 一……就 As soon as we get the answer, we’ll let you know.
the first time 第一次做……时 The first time I skied, I was really nervous.
immediately 刚一……就 Immediately he came home, I told him about that.
no sooner…than 一……就 Hardly had I sat down, when he stepped in.
hardly…when 一……就 No sooner had I sat down, than he stepped in.
by the time 到……为止，在……之前 I’ll have dinner ready by the time you get home.By the time I reached the top of the mountain, I had been out of breath.
原因状语从句
because 因为 ----Why are you absent from the meeting ---Because I am ill.
as 因为 As he is a qualified doctor, I trust his advice on medical matters
for 因为 He must be at home, for the light in his room is on
since/now that 既然，由于 Since everybody knows about it, I don’ want to talk any more.
in that 因为 I like New York in that anything goes there.
让步状语从句
as 虽然，尽管 Young as he is , he has already known a lot.Try as he would , he might fail again.Child as he is, he has to make a living by himself.Hard as the job was, he managed to finish it in time.
while 虽然，尽管 While it was raining hard, yet/still they went on playing football
although 虽然，尽管 Although it was raining hard, yet/still they went on playing football.

even though/even if 即使，纵使 Even if you are busy with your work, you should help me with the housework.
no matter + wh No matter when you call on me, you are always welcome.
Wh--ever… Whenever you call on me, you are always welcome.I don’t believe whatever he said.
Whether… or not 不论是否…… We have to perform whether we sell many tickets or not.
条件状语从句
if 如果 The mail is always late if it rains.
unless 除非 Don’t get involved in such a risky business unless you are reasonably sure that you will win.
As(so)long as 只要，如果 I’ll lend it to you as long as you handle it with care.
in case 在……情况下，万一 Please let me know in case you can’t attend the conference.
once 一旦 Once you start working, you’ll see how easy it is.
on condition that 在……条件下，假如…… I will lend you this book on condition that you give it back tomorrow.
地点状语从句
where 在……的地方 Where there is a will , there is a way.
everywhere 无论何处，无论什么地方 She takes her handbag everywhere she goes.
方式状语从句
as if/as though 好像 That morning, Mark felt as if the sky were falling on him.
as 照……方式 They did as I had asked
正如，一样 As I told you before, you will be required to give a five-minute oral report
as……as 像……一样 Laura is not as tall as her sister.
just as ……as 正和……一样 The winter here is just as cold as it is in my country.
比较状语从句
the more……,the more…… 越……越…… The more money I make, the more I spend.
As……as/ adj/adv比较级…than This room is three times as big as that one.This room is twice bigger than that one.
目的状语从句
in order that 为了 Please close the door in order that we may have some privacy.
so that 为了，以便 Let’s start saving money so that when summer comes, we can take a nice vacation.
for fear that 唯恐 He tiptoed around the bed for fear that he would wake the baby.
in case 以防 Take an umbrella with you in case it rains.
结果状语从句
so that 因此，所以 Nothing more was heard from him so that we began to wonder if he was dead.
so……that 如此……以至于 She spoke so loudly that everyone in the big hall could hear her.This is so interesting a book that we all like reading it.
such……that 如此……以至于 This is such an interesting book that we all like reading it.The book was written in such simple English that we could understand it easily
