A
message
appeared
in
my
Facebook
Messenger
inbox.
It
was
from
a
woman
I
met
briefly
through
a
friend.
“Hello,
lady.
Invite
you
to
join
my
next
challenge
group

we’ll
be
focusing
on
fitting
in
30
minutes
of
exercise,
balanced
nutrition
and
motivation.
Let
me
help
you
reach
your
goals!”
I
laughed
and
ignored
it.
Though
I’m
a
little
fat,
I’m
healthy.
But
the
meaning
behind
the
message
stuck
with
me
all
day.
The
more
the
day
went
on,
the
heavier
her
message
weighed
on
me.
The
insecurity
about
my
body
was
brought
to
life
by
one
little
Facebook
message.
That
got
me
thinking
about
stepping
away
from
social
media.
But
what
drove
the
nail
into
my
Facebook
coffin
was
when
I
posted
a
photo

and
five
minutes
later
my
son
asked
how
many
“likes”
it
got.
Likes
equal
acceptance
and
approval,
which
need
to
come
from
within.
I
unknowingly
set
a
dangerous
example
as
it
won’t
be
long
before
he
has
his
own
phone
and
the
freedom
to
post
his
own
pictures.
I
didn’t
want
him
to
wait
for
his
friends
to
“like”
them
and
like
and
accept
him.
He
should
know
his
self-worth
doesn’t
rely
on
what
others
think
or
click.
I
deactivated
my
Facebook
account.
At
first
I
felt
lost.
I
missed
the
mindless
scrolling(
滚动
)
while
waiting
in
lineups.
I
carried
a
book
with
me.
I’d
been
in
the
habit
of
checking
Facebook
as
first
thing
in
the
morning
and
last
thing
at
night,
so
I
had
to
come
up
with
some
new
habits.
And
the
results
were
immediate
once
the
fog
of
Facebook
disappeared.
We
were
much
happier
as
a
family
because
I
was
completely
present
and
the
break
left
me
feeling
better
about
myself,
my
family,
my
home
and
my
life.

on
her?

others’
attention.
B.
Her
passion
for
keeping
fit
decreased.
C.
Her
fitness
began
to
worry
her.
D.
Her
private
information
was
given
away.
What
did
the
author
worry
about?
A.
Difficulties
in
getting
“likes”.
B.
Possible
influence
on
her
son.
C.
Problems
with
online
safety.
D.
Lack
of
time
for
reading.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“deactivated”
in
Paragraph
5
probably
mean?
A.
Changed.
B.
Canceled.
C.

The
number
of
birds
in
North
America
has
declined
by
almost
3
billion
since
1970,
according
to
a
study
published
in
Science.
The
researchers
estimated
changes
in
the
populations
of
529
species
using
long-term
bird-monitoring
databases.
Those
data
showed
that
the
number
of
individual
birds
across
all
of
those
species
had
decreased
by
29
percent,
from
around
10
billion
in
1970
to
just
over
7
billion
in
2017.
“The
data
they
used
provide
probably
the
best
long-term,
large
information
on
species
abundances
for
any
group
of
animals
or
plants
anywhere
in
the
world,”
Natalie
Wright,
a
bird
biologist
tells
The
Atlantic.
“There’s
always
uncertainty,
but
if
they
are
wrong,
they
are
likely
underestimating
the
size
of
population
declines.”
The
team
also
examined
10
years’
worth
of
data
from
a
network
of
143
weather
radars,
which
pick
up
bird
migrations,
and
found
a
reduction
in
migratory
biomass
of
about
14
percent
since
2007.
“Two
completely
different
and
independent
monitoring
techniques
thus
signal
major
population
loss
across
the
continent,”
the
authors
wrote
in
their
paper.
The
results
are
particularly
concerning
because
many
of
the
species
showing
declines
are
not
considered
rare
or
in
danger,
but
are
almost
everywhere
and
potentially
act
as
important
contributors
to
food
webs
and
ecosystem
function.
More
than
90
percent
of
the
loss
in
abundance
in
the
survey
data
was
due
to
declines
in
12
families,
including
sparrows
and
blackbirds.
Some
other
species,
including
many
ducks,
instead
showed
increases
in
abundance

possibly
as
a
result
of
focused
conservation
efforts
in
recent
years.
The
findings
should
be
a
wake-up
call.
Many
of
the
birds
studied
spend
time
in
multiple
countries
within
and
beyond
North
America.
What
our
birds
need
now
is
a
historic,
global
effort
that
unites
people
and
organizations
with
one
common
goal:
bringing
our
birds
back.
How
does
the
first
paragraph
show
the
bird
reduction?
A.
By
comparing
figures.
B.
By
listing
some
examples.
C.
By
using
experts’
words.
D.
By
doing
experiments.
What
can
we
infer
about
the
function
of
the
data
according
to
Natalie
Wright?
A.
It’s
wrong.
B.
It’s
formal.
C.
It’s
helpful.
D.
It’s
useless.
Which
of
the
following
is
particularly
worrying?
The
focus
of
conservation
efforts
has
turned
out
wrong.
Some
ducks
are
likely
to
lose
their
ecosystem
function.
Few
species
across
the
continent
show
the
increase.
The
population
of
widespread
species
is
declining.
What
is
the
author’s
purpose
in
writing
the
text?
To
point
out
the
importance
of
raising
birds.
To
call
on
people
to
work
together
to
bring
birds
back.
To
analyze
the
concerning
results
of
long-term
research.
To
inform
people
of
the
dangers
many
species
are
facing.
D
Self-driving
cars
are
just
around
the
corner.
Such
vehicles
will
make
getting
from
one
place
to
another
safer
and
less
stressful.
They
also
could
cut
down
on
traffic,
reduce
pollution
and
limit
accidents.
But
how
should
driverless
cars
handle
emergencies?
People
disagree
on
the
answer.
And
that
might
put
the
brakes
on
this,
a
new
study
concludes.
To
understand
the
challenge,
imagine
a
car
that
suddenly
meets
some
pedestrians(行人)
in
the
road.
Even
with
braking,
it’s
too
late
to
avoid
a
crash.
So
the
car’s
artificial
intelligence
must
decide
whether
to
swerve(急转弯).
To
save
the
pedestrians,
should
the
car
swerve
off
the
road
or
swerve
into
oncoming
traffic?
What
if
such
options
would
likely
kill
the
car’s
driver?
Researchers
used
online
surveys
to
study
people’s
attitudes
about
such
situations
with
driverless
cars.
Survey
participants
mostly
agreed
that
automated
cars
should
be
designed
to
protect
the
most
people.
But
there’s
a
dilemma(

).
Those
same
surveyed
people
want
to
ride
in
cars
that
protect
passengers
at
all
costs

even
if
the
pedestrians
would
now
end
up
dying.
Makers
of
computerized
cars
are
in
a
tough
spot,
Bonnefon’s
group
warns.
Most
buyers
would
want
their
car
to
be
programmed
to
protect
them
in
preference
to
other
people.
However,
regulations
might
one
day
instruct
that
cars
must
act
for
the
greater
good.
That
would
mean
saving
the
most
people.
But
the
scientists
think
rules
like
this
could
drive
away
buyers.
If
so,
all
the
potential
benefits
of
driverless
cars
would
be
promises
might
be
possible,
Kurt
Gray
says.
He
is
a
psychologist
at
the
University
of
North
Carolina.
He
thinks
that
even
if
all
driverless
cars
are
programmed
to
protect
their
passengers
in
emergencies,
traffic
accidents
will
decline.
Those
vehicles
might
be
dangerous
to
pedestrians
on
rare
occasions.
But
they
“won’t
speed,
won’t
drive
drunk
and
won’t
text
while
driving,
which
would
be
a
win
for
society.”
Compared
with
the
traditional
cars,
what’s
the
advantage
of
driverless
cars?
People
can
more
easily
afford
them.
They
do
greater
harm
to
the
environment.
They
can
reduce
traffic
jams.
The
traffic
accidents
are
likely
to
be
on
the
increase.
What
do
we
learn
from
the
text?
People
are
in
a
difficult
situation
about
driverless
cars.
Car
makers
believe
driverless
cars
could
attract
buyers.
Most
buyers
would
want
their
cars
to
protect
the
pedestrians.
Survey
participants
think
driverless
cars
should
protect
the
least
people.
What
is
Kurt
Gray’s
attitude
toward
self-driving
cars?
Doubtful.
B.
Favorable.
C.
Sympathetic.
D.
Disapproving.
In
which
section
of
a
newspaper
may
this
text
appear?
Environment.
B.
Entertainment.
C.
Health.
D.
Technology.

A
mother

living
in
my

are
two
of
the
most
unfriendly
people
I
have
ever
come
across
in
my
life.
They
are
totally
21
,
mixing
with
nobody.
On
moving
into
this

I
was
22

I

on
my

and
blast(猛烈抨击)
me
with
some

I

I

Mo
Park
loves
collecting
things.
He
often
goes
to
antique
sales
36
(buy)
old
pottery,
silver
and
boxes.
When
he
was
online
one
evening
and
saw
an
37
(advertise)
about
an
old
metal
film
container,
he
wanted
to
buy
it.
He
was
attracted
by
the
film
container
because
it
looked
so
old
and
38
(interest).
The
price
was
$5,
and
he
paid
for
it.
By
the
time
it
was
delivered
by
post,
he
39
(forget)
all
about
it.
When
he
did
eventually
open
it,
Mo
was
pretty
sure
that
anyone,
40
had
sold
it
to
him,
didn’t
know
anything
about
the
film
within
it.
About
two
weeks
later,
as
Mo
and
some
friends
watched
41
whole
film
they
all
got
a
shock.
The
film
called
Zepped
was
starred
by
Charlie
Chaplin
but
none
of
the
audience
had
ever
heard
42
it.
Mo
decided
to
find
out
all
he
could
about
it.
43
(luck),
on
a
research
trip
to
the
British
Library
he
discovered
a
reference
to
Zepped.
The
film
was
released
in
English
in
1916.
It
was
a
short
comedy
44
(mean)
for
British
soldiers
during
the
First
World
War
but
it
disappeared
after
that.
Therefore,
45
was
impossible
for
common
persons
to
have
seen
the
film.

第二节(满分

分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写成两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There
was
once
a
man
who
went
out
to
look
for
a
job.
As
he
was
passing
his
neighbor’s
house,
an
important
piece
of
paper
fell
out
of
the
man’s
pocket.
His
neighbor
happened
to
be
looking
out
of
the
window.
He
saw
the
piece
of
paper
fall,
and
he
thought:
“What
a
disgrace!
That
guy
let
that
fall
out
of
his
pocket
on
purpose.
He’s
trying
to
mess
up
the
front
of
my
house!”
But
instead
of
going
out
and
communicating
with
him,
the
neighbor
planned
his
revenge(

).
That
night,
he
took
his
waste-paper
basket
and
went
to
the
man’s
house.
The
first
man
also
happened
to
be
looking
out
of
the
window,
and
saw
what
happened.
Later,
when
he
was
picking
up
the
paper
which
had
been
dumped
near
his
door,
he
found
the
important
piece
of
paper
that
he
had
lost.
It
was
torn
into
dozens
of
pieces.
He
thought
that
his
neighbor
had
not
only
picked
his
pocket,
but
had
the
cheek
to(厚着脸皮)mess
up
his
doorway
with
rubbish.
He
didn’t
want
to
say
anything.
Instead,
he
started
planning
his
revenge.
That
night
he
phoned
a
farmer
to
make
an
order
of
ten
pigs
and
a
hundred
ducks.
He
asked
that
they
be
delivered
to
his
neighbor’s
house.
Of
course,
the
next
day,
his
neighbor
had
quite
a
bit
of
trouble
trying
to
get
rid
of
so
many
animals
and
their
noises.
Sure
that
this
had
been
an
evil
trick
pulled
by
his
neighbor,
the
second
man
again
started
planning
his
revenge
immediately
he
got
rid
of
the
pigs
and
ducks.
And
so
it
went
on.
They
continued
trying
to
get
back
at
each
other,
and
each
time
their
acts
of
revenge
got
bigger
and
more
stupid.
The
dropping
of
that
single
piece
of
paper
ended
up
causing
a
fire
siren(警报),
the
driving
of
a
truck
into
a
garden
fence,
the
throwing
of
stones
at
windows,
and
finally
the
dropping
of
a
bomb
which
destroyed
both
men’s
houses.
注意:1.
续写的词数应为
150
左右;
2.
请按下列格式作答。
Both
ended
up
in
a
hospital,
and
had
to
share
a
room
there.
They
talked
and
became
friends
in
the
end.
