【精析】population是一个集合名词，意为“人口；人口数量”。常与定冠词the连用，单独作主语时，谓语动词常用第三人称单数形式。如：

①分数或百分数修饰population作主语时，谓语动词常用复数形式。如：
About sixty percent of the population in China are farmers.中国大约有百分之六十的人口是农民。
②表示人口的“多”或“少”要用“large/big”或“small”。如：
India has a large population.印度人口众多。
Singapore has a small population.新加坡人口少。
③询问某国、某地有多少人口时用“What's the population of…？”。如：
What is the population of Canada？加拿大的人口有多少？
④表示“某地有多少人口”时用“have/has a population of＋数字”或“the population is＋数字”。如：

百位数的基数词，百位和十位(若无十位，则和个位)之间一般需用and连接。英语中千位数以上的阿拉伯数字，一般从个位向十位、百位等高位数，每三位数加一个逗号。第一个逗号前的数字后加thousand，第二个逗号前的数字后加million，第三个逗号前的数字后加billion。如：
15，628　　fifteen thousand，six hundred and twenty?eight
16，312，493，678　sixteen billion，three hundred and twelve million, four hundred and ninety?three thousand，six hundred and seventy?eight
【温馨提示】当hundred, thousand, million, billion 前有具体数词修饰时，这些词后既不能带s，也不能带of；当hundred, thousand, million, billion 等词与介词of 连用时，用复数形式，表示不确定数目，其前不可与数词连用。如：
five million 五百万　hundreds of 数以百计的
thousands of 数以千计的　millions of 数以百万计的
◆原级前可以用very，quite，rather，too，so，pretty等修饰，表示程度。如：
The story is very interesting.
◆比较级前可以用much，a little，a bit，even 等修饰。
The shoes are a little bigger for me.
◆比较级的特殊句型
1．“The＋比较级，the＋比较级”意为“越……越……”。如：
The busier we are，the happier we will be.
2．“比较级＋and＋比较级”意为“越来越……”。如：
Our country is getting stronger and stronger.
◆最高级的特殊句型
1．疑问词＋be＋the＋最高级。如：
Which is the biggest，the sun，the moon or the earth?
2．“the＋序数词＋最高级”意为“第几……”。如：
