Notes:
1. The students were persuaded before the detox started.
2. Sentense (a) uses the passive voice of the past perfect tense, while Sentense (b) uses the acitve voice of the past perfect tense.
3. The passive voice can be used to emphasize the acceptor of an action.

Past perfect tense
The structure of the past perfect passive
1. 在动作发生的时间上,表示过去的过去;
2. 在语态上,主语与谓语动词构成被动关系;
3. 在过去某一时间已经完成而且造成一定的影响或者结果。
4. 根据语境可以判断出动作先后的过去完成时被动语态;

The usage of the past perfect passive
eg. Because the work had been done, he went on to search the Internet.
a. From the adverbial “because-clause”, we konw that the action “do” takes place before “go to search the Internet”.
b. The noun “work” is the subject of this sentence , and the verb “do” is predicate, so the Passive Voice should be used.
