Samantha
Whiting,
from
Texas,
USA,
was
on
holiday
with
her
family
in
California
earlier
this
year
when
every
parent’s
worst
nightmare
came
to
life.
While
playing
on
the
beach,
Samantha
spotted
her
10-year-old
daughter
Hayley
drifting
out
into
deeper
water.
She
called
Hayley
back
to
shore,
only
for
the
youngster
to
realise
she
was
caught
in
the
rip
current(离岸流)and
couldn’t
swim
back
in.
The
current
was
dragging
her
out
to
sea
rapidly
and
she
called
for
her
mum
to
help
her
as
Samantha
desperately
tried
to
reach
her
little
girl.
“I
will
never
forget
her
face
when
she
said,
‘Mum,
help
me!’”
Samantha
told
KFSN,
recalling
the
terror
in
her
daughter’s
voice.
She
managed
to
reach
her
daughter
but
wasn’t
able
to
swim
her
back
to
shore
and
the
pair
were
struggling.
Nearby,
Kevin
Cozzi
and
his
girlfriend
heard
the
screaming.
He
quickly
jumped
into
action
when
he
realized
Hayley
was
in
danger.
“I’ve
been
swimming
since
I
was
3
years
old
competitively,
so
I
felt
like
I
could
get
to
them,”
Cozzi
told
KFSN.
“I
ran
out
there
and
as
soon
as
I
got
to
the
mum,
I
just
told
her
to
give
me
her
daughter
because
I
knew
she
was
struggling.”
He
swam
Hayley
back
to
shore
and
a
lifeguard
rushed
to
help
the
10-year-old,
meanwhile
Samantha
was
thanking
the
total
stranger
who
had
saved
her
little
girl
from
drowning.
“If
it
were
not
for
him
coming
to
help
me,
there’s
no
way
that
we
both
would
have
made
it,
”
the
grateful
mum
said.
Months
went
by,
and
Samantha
only
knew
Cozzi’s
first
name
and
that
he
lived
in
Merced,
California.
However,
she
never
stopped
looking
for
the
heroic
bystander.
Earlier
this
week,
she
posted
about
the
rescue
in
a
Facebook
group
called
Merced
Neighborhood
Watch,
and
within
hours
they
reconnected.
Cozzi
and
his
girlfriend
had
to
put

their
wedding
because
of
COVID-19,
and
Samantha
decided
to
set

of
their
dreams.
Both

have
been
invited
to
the
wedding,
set
for
next
fall,
and

forward
to
once
again
thanking
Cozzi

for
their

C
Faced
with
a
declining
population
and
shrinking
workforce,
Japan
has
been
increasingly
turning
to
robots
for
help.
Over
the
years,
the
androids
have
been
employed
to
perform
a
large
number
of
human
tasks,
including
building
products
and
providing
care
and
companionship
for
the
elderly.
The
latest
addition
to
the
Japanese
“workforce”
may
be
Model-T.
Designed
by
Telexistence
Inc.,
this
seven-foot-tall
robot
is
currently
undergoing
trials
restocking
sandwiches,
drinks,
and
ready
meals
on
shelves
at
select
locations
of
local
convenience
store
chains
Lawson
and
FamilyMart.
Telexistence
has
received
funding
from
technology
investment
company
Softbank
Group
and
cell
phone
service
operator
KDDI
in
Japan,
with
overseas
investors
including
European
passenger
aircraft
maker
Airbus
Ventures.
It
named
its
robot
Model-T,
a
nod
to
the
Ford
Motor
car
that
began
the
age
of
mass
motoring
a
century
ago.
Model-T,
whose
face
somewhat
resembles
that
of
a
kangaroo,
is
certainly
not
the
first
restocking
robot.
However,
the
warehouse
robots
currently
being
used
by
companies,
like
Walmart
and
Amazon,
are
only
able
to
accomplish
single,
repetitive
tasks,
such
as
carrying
boxes.
Model-T,
on
the
other
hand,
has
a
wide
range
of
movement
and
can
be
used
to
restock
objects
of
various
sizes,
making
it
ideal
for
convenience
and
grocery
stores,
which
sell
a
large
variety
of
items.
“It
is
able
to
grasp
or
pick
and
place
objects
of
several
different
shapes
and
sizes
into
different
locations,”
Matt
Komatsu,
head
of
business
development
and
operations
at
Telexistence
Inc.,
told
CNN
Business.
However,
Model-T
is
not
autonomous.
Instead,
it
is
operated
by
human
“pilots”
wearing
a
virtual
reality(VR)
headset
and
special
gloves,
which
allow
them
to
feel
the
product
the
robot
is
holding
in
their
hands
and
guide
it
to
the
right
shelf.
Since
the
video
connection
between
the
robot
and
the
human
operator
has
a
mere
50
milliseconds
delay,
the
navigation
process
is
seamless.
Telexistence
says
the
VR-controlled
androids
are
easier
to
develop
and
maintain.
They
are
also
ten
times
cheaper
than
autonomous
robots,
which
require
complex
programming.
Though
Model-T
appears
to
have
passed
the
trials,
it
is
not
quite
ready
to
enter
the
labor
force.
Besides
being
a
lot
slower
than
human
labour,
it
is
also
only
capable
of
lifting
packaged
items,
and
cannot
grasp
loose
items
such
as
fruits
and
vegetables.
Telexistence
hopes
to
introduce
a
faster
Model-T
within
the
next
two
years.

name
Model-T?

may
create
a
new
age
like

is
as

can
accomplish
single
and
repetitive

这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了日本发明的一款名为Model-T的机器人,因其移动范围广,可用于补充各种大小的物品,使其成为便利店和杂货店的理想选择。文章介绍了这款机器人的一些优点以及局限性。
【45题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中“Faced
with
a
declining
population
and
shrinking
workforce,
Japan
has
been
increasingly
turning
to
robots
for
help.
Over
the
years,
the
androids
have
been
employed
to
perform
a
large
number
of
human
tasks,
including
building
products
and
providing
care
and
companionship
for
the
elderly.
The
latest
addition
to
the
Japanese
“workforce”
may
be
Model-T.(面对人口下降和劳动力减少的问题,日本越来越多地求助于机器人。多年来,机器人已经被用于执行大量的人类任务,包括建造产品,为老年人提供照顾和陪伴。日本“劳动力”的最新成员可能是Model-T)”可知,Model-T发明的主要驱动因素是劳动力短缺。故选C。
【46题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“It
named
its
robot
Model-T,
a
nod
to
the
Ford
Motor
car
that
began
the
age
of
mass
motoring
a
century
ago.(该公司将其机器人命名为Model-T,以纪念一个世纪前开启了大规模驾驶时代的福特汽车)”可知,Model-T名称背后隐藏的信息是它可能创造一个像福特汽车一样的新时代。故选B。
【47题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“However,
the
warehouse
robots
currently
being
used
by
companies,
like
Walmart
and
Amazon,
are
only
able
to
accomplish
single,
repetitive
tasks,
such
as
carrying
boxes.
Model-T,
on
the
other
hand,
has
a
wide
range
of
movement
and
can
be
used
to
restock
objects
of
various
sizes,
making
it
ideal
for
convenience
and
grocery
stores,
which
sell
a
large
variety
of
items.(然而,沃尔玛和亚马逊等公司目前使用的仓库机器人只能完成单一的、重复的任务,比如搬运箱子。另一方面,Model-T移动范围广,可用于补充各种大小的物品,使其成为便利店和杂货店的理想选择,这些商店销售各种各样的物品)”可知,Model-T与其他补货机器人不同之处在于,Model-T在履行职责时具有灵活性。故选C。
【48题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“However,
Model-T
is
not
autonomous.
Instead,
it
is
operated
by
human
“pilots”
wearing
a
virtual
reality(VR)
headset
and
special
gloves,
which
allow
them
to
feel
the
product
the
robot
is
holding
in
their
hands
and
guide
it
to
the
right
shelf.(然而,Model-T不是自动的。相反,它由戴着虚拟现实头盔和特殊手套的人类“领航员”来操作,这些设备让他们能够感受到机器人手中拿着的产品,并引导它到正确的货架上)”可知,Model-T在很大程度上要依赖人类的操作。故选D。
【49题详解】
词义猜测题。根据画线词上文“Since
the
video
connection
between
the
robot
and
the
human
operator
has
a
mere
50
milliseconds
delay,
the
navigation
process
is”可知,由于机器人和人类操作员之间的视频连接只有50毫秒的延迟,所以导航过程很流畅。画线词意思为“流畅的”。A.
Smooth.流畅的;B.
Complex.复杂的;C.
Time-consuming.耗时的;D.
Annoying.恼人的。故选A。
【50题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Though
Model-T
appears
to
have
passed
the
trials,
it
is
not
quite
ready
to
enter
the
labor
force.
Besides
being
a
lot
slower
than
human
labour,
it
is
also
only
capable
of
lifting
packaged
items,
and
cannot
grasp
loose
items
such
as
fruits
and
vegetables.
Telexistence
hopes
to
introduce
a
faster
Model-T
within
the
next
two
years.(虽然Model-T似乎已经通过了试验,但它还没有完全准备好进入劳动力市场。除了比人工慢很多,它也只能举起包装的物品,不能抓住松散的物品,如水果和蔬菜。Telexistence希望在未来两年内推出更快的Model-T)”可知,最后一段主要讨论了Model-T的局限性。故选A。
D
Let’s
take
a
moment
to
consider
the
words
of
one
of
America’s
most
remarkable
philosophers,
Henry
David
Thoreau.
Thoreau
spent
the
years
1845-1847
living
on
the
outskirts
of
society
in
a
small
cabin
in
the
woods
by
the
side
of
Waldon
Pond.
He
called
this
period
of
his
life
an
experiment
of
intentional
living
and
wrote
this
famous
paragraph:
I
went
to
the
woods
because
I
wished
to
live
intentionally,
to
front
only
the
essential
facts
of
life,
and
see
if
I
could
not
learn
what
it
had
to
teach,and
not,when
I
came
to
die,
discover
that
I
had
not
lived.
I
wanted
to
live
deep
and
suck
out
all
the
marrow(精华)of
life.
There
is
great
wisdom
in
Thoreau’s
purpose
here,
and
I
think
it’s
very
useful
to
ask
ourselves
this
question:What
would
our
lives
be
like
if
we
sucked
all
the
marrow
out
of
life?
If
Thoreau’s
quote
sounds
familiar,
it
may
be
from
watching
the
film
Dead
Poets
Society,
a
movie
with
deep
wisdom.
The
film
is
about
young
men
at
a
boarding
school
as
they
prepare
to
do
good
in
the
world
because
they
have
the
privilege
to
bring
about
change.
Their
English
teacher,
played
by
Robin
Williams,
tries
to
convince
them
that
they
should
live
life
well
now
instead
of
believing
that
they
will
find
happiness
after
they
reach
certain
goals.
Part
of
his
argument
is
conveyed
by
quoting
this
famous
passage
from
Thoreau.
Sucking
the
marrow
out
of
life
sounds
simple
enough,
but
as
a
matter
of
fact,
it
may
be
the
most
difficult
thing
that
we
can
ever
do.
But
it
actually
is
as
simple
as
it.
Sounds—though
“simple”
is
not
quite
the
same
thing
as
“easy”.
I
can
think
of
one
barrier
that
often
keeps
us
from
living
our
best
lives.
What
keeps
us
from
getting
the
most
out
of
life
is
our
desire
for
approval
and
fame.
In
the
process
of
always
looking
for
fame
and
glory,
there
is
the
danger
that
we
will
stop
living.
In
order
to
seek
approval
from
others,
we
fail
to
find
a
sense
of
approval
within
our
own
spirit.
When
we
become
aware
that
we
are
missing
so
much
out
of
life,
we
can
decide
that
we
want
to
make
changes.
Our
best
move
is
to
start
small.
If
we
are
having
a
meal,
whether
a
great
festival
feast
or
a
modest
supper,
it
is
always
within
our
power
to
take
it
slowly
and
really
feel,
taste,
and
enjoy
the
food
before
us.
Few
of
us
can
easily
do
like
Henry
David
Thoreau
and
get
away
from
it
all
in
the
wilderness.
But
we
can
make
small
changes
every
single
day.
51.
What
wisdom
is
conveyed
in
Thoreau’s
words?
A.
Stay
away
from
city
life.
B.
Live
one’s
life
to
the
fullest.
C.
Only
nature
can
bring
happiness.
D.
One
can
never
be
too
old
to
learn.
52.
Why
did
the
author
mention
the
film
Dead
Poets
Society?
A.
To
recommend
a
good
film.
B.
To
praise
the
teacher’s
wisdom.
C.
To
further
illustrate
Thoreau’s
wisdom.
D.
To
state
the
film
was
adapted
from
Thoreau’s
works.
53.
What’s
the
author’s
attitude
towards
people’s
seeking
for
approval?
A.
Critical.
B.
Supportive.
C.
Sympathetic.
D.
Unconcerned.
54.
How
can
people
change
life
for
the
better
according
to
the

A.
Live
in
the

higher
goals.
C.
Make
small

more
classics.

【解析】
这是一篇记叙文。2018年11月8日加州大火造成了巨大的损失。迪士尼主题公园的创意总监Shane
Grammer看到儿时的朋友Shane
Edwards发布在网上的白色烟囱(Shane
Edwards的房子唯一幸存下来的部分)的照片后,产生了一个想法。他在烟囱上喷涂了一幅黑白女性画像。这幅图像给人们带来了美丽和希望。此后,Shane
Grammer又到废墟上创作了很多幅作品。后来,他甚至引发了一场运动:他在全世界很多黑暗需要光的地方都画上了壁画,极大得鼓舞了人们。
【56题详解】
考查主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“the
most

damage
of
the
Camp
Fire./The
destruction
of
the
Camp
Fire./The
heavy
loss
of
the
Camp
Fire./
The
damage
of
the
Camp

caused
serious
damage。
【57题详解】
考查细节理解。根据第四段中的“The
victims
of
the
fire,
especially,
could
not
contain
themselves.
‘‘Beautiful
and
unforgettable,”
one
said.
Another
posted,
“You
bring
beauty
and
hope.”(尤其是火灾受害者,他们无法控制自己的情绪。“美丽而且令人难忘,”其中一人说。另一位网友写道:“你带来了美丽和希望。”)”可知,人们认为他的第一幅画美丽而且令人难忘,触动人心。故答案为:Beautiful
and
unforgettable./Impressive./
Moving.
/Touching。
【58题详解】
考查推理判断。根据第四段中的“a
black-and-white
image
of
a
woman
on
the
chimney-a
reminder,
perhaps,
of
the
beauty
of
life,
or
even

posted,
“You
bring
beauty
and
hope.”(
烟囱上一个女人的黑白照片—也许是对生命之美的一种提醒,甚至是对生命本身的提醒……另一位网友写道:“你带来了美丽和希望。”)可知,因为他的画给人们带来了美丽和希望,提醒人们生命之美,所以人们深受鼓舞。故答案为:Because
his
paintings
can
bring
hope
to
people./Because
his
paintings
can
get
people
to
see
hope
and
beauty./Because
his
paintings
can
remind
people
of
life
itself。
【59题详解】
考查词义猜测。上文讲的是他在大火之后的废墟上进行艺术创作。根据下文“He
has
traveled
the
world
painting
murals
in
dark
places
that
badly
needed
some
light(他周游世界,在黑暗的地方画壁画,这些地方非常需要一些光)”可知,他将自己的创作扩展到了全世界。由此可知,该句表达意思应为:Grammer在Paradise的努力引发了一场运动。该划线词应意为“引发”。故答案为:Started/Launched。
【60题详解】
考查开放性题。Shane
Grammer通过自己的艺术创作给处于困境中的人们带去了精神上的鼓舞。结合文章的提示,在别人处于困难中的时候,我们应该努力的去帮助他们。可以提供物质方面的帮助,也可以提供精神方面的帮助。故答案为:I
will
reach
out
to
people
in
need
and
invite
people
around
me
to
help
as
well./I
can
launch
a
campaign
and
collect
some
money
to
help
people
in
need./
I
will
do
some
voluntary
work
and
I
believe
what
counts
is
action./
I
will
deliver
some
basic
necessities
to
victims,
just
as
often
did
during
the
COVID-19。

Let’s
build
a
civilized
campus
As
we
all
know,
our
school
is
building
a
civilized
campus.
A
civilized
campus
begins
with
a
civilized
person.
As
a
student,
it’s
our
duty
to
do
something
to
help.
Even
a
small
act
can
make
a
great
difference.
While
in
the
canteen,
it’s
good
manners
to
wait
in
line
and
keep
quiet.
Besides,
saving
food
is
a
good
virtue,
so
we’d
better
never
waste
any
food.
To
keep
a
clean
campus,
we
must
not
litter
anywhere
or
spit
around.
Instead,
we
should
develop
an
awareness
of
trash
sorting,
which
should
be
deeply
rooted
in
everyone’s
mind.
Lastly,
we
appreciate
it
if
you
can
greet
others
politely
and
never
say
dirty
words.
Let’s
spare
no
effort
to
beautify
our
campus.
It
needs
our

Kevin
Cozzi
and
his
girlfriend
heard
the
screaming.
He
quickly
jumped
into
action
when
he
realized
Hayley
was
in
danger.
“I’ve
been
swimming
since
I
was
3
years
old
competitively,
so
I
felt
like
I
could
get
to
them,”
Cozzi
told
KFSN.
“I
ran
out
there
and
as
soon
as
I
got
to
the
mum,
I
just
told
her
to
give
me
her
daughter
because
I
knew
she
was
struggling.”
He
swam
Hayley
back
to
shore
and
a
lifeguard
rushed
to
help
the
10-year-old,
meanwhile
Samantha
was
thanking
the
total
stranger
who
had
saved
her
little
girl
from
drowning.
“If
it
were
not
for
him
coming
to
help
me,
there’s
no
way
that
we
both
would
have
made
it,
”
the
grateful
mum
said.
Months
went
by,
and
Samantha
only
knew
Cozzi’s
first
name
and
that
he
lived
in
Merced,
California.
However,
she
never
stopped
looking
for
the
heroic
bystander.
Earlier
this
week,
she
posted
about
the
rescue
in
a
Facebook
group
called
Merced
Neighborhood
Watch,
and
within
hours
they
reconnected.
Cozzi
and
his
girlfriend
had
to
put
off
their
wedding
because
of
COVID-19,
and
Samantha
decided
to
set
up
a
GoFund
Me
account
to
help
Cozzi
and
his
girlfriend
have
the
wedding
of
their
dreams.
Both
Samantha
and
Hayley
have
been
invited
to
the
wedding,
set
for
next
fall,
and
look
forward
to
once
again
thanking
Cozzi
in
person.
Cozzi
was
thankful
for
their
fundraiser,
but
told
journalists,
“That
girl
being
saved
was
enough
for
me.”

Faced
with
a
declining
population
and
shrinking
workforce,
Japan
has
been
increasingly
turning
to
robots
for
help.
Over
the
years,
the
androids
have
been
employed
to
perform
a
large
number
of
human
tasks,
including
building
products
and
providing
care
and
companionship
for
the
elderly.
The
latest
addition
to
the
Japanese
“workforce”
may
be
Model-T.
Designed
by
Telexistence
Inc.,
this
seven-foot-tall
robot
is
currently
undergoing
trials
restocking
sandwiches,
drinks,
and
ready
meals
on
shelves
at
select
locations
of
local
convenience
store
chains
Lawson
and
FamilyMart.
Telexistence
has
received
funding
from
technology
investment
company
Softbank
Group
and
cell
phone
service
operator
KDDI
in
Japan,
with
overseas
investors
including
European
passenger
aircraft
maker
Airbus
Ventures.
It
named
its
robot
Model-T,
a
nod
to
the
Ford
Motor
car
that
began
the
age
of
mass
motoring
a
century
ago.
Model-T,
whose
face
somewhat
resembles
that
of
a
kangaroo,
is
certainly
not
the
first
restocking
robot.
However,
the
warehouse
robots
currently
being
used
by
companies,
like
Walmart
and
Amazon,
are
only
able
to
accomplish
single,
repetitive
tasks,
such
as
carrying
boxes.
Model-T,
on
the
other
hand,
has
a
wide
range
of
movement
and
can
be
used
to
restock
objects
of
various
sizes,
making
it
ideal
for
convenience
and
grocery
stores,
which
sell
a
large
variety
of
items.
“It
is
able
to
grasp
or
pick
and
place
objects
of
several
different
shapes
and
sizes
into
different
locations,”
Matt
Komatsu,
head
of
business
development
and
operations
at
Telexistence
Inc.,
told
CNN
Business.
However,
Model-T
is
not
autonomous.
Instead,
it
is
operated
by
human
“pilots”
wearing
a
virtual
reality(VR)
headset
and
special
gloves,
which
allow
them
to
feel
the
product
the
robot
is
holding
in
their
hands
and
guide
it
to
the
right
shelf.
Since
the
video
connection
between
the
robot
and
the
human
operator
has
a
mere
50
milliseconds
delay,
the
navigation
process
is
seamless.
Telexistence
says
the
VR-controlled
androids
are
easier
to
develop
and
maintain.
They
are
also
ten
times
cheaper
than
autonomous
robots,
which
require
complex
programming.
Though
Model-T
appears
to
have
passed
the
trials,
it
is
not
quite
ready
to
enter
the
labor
force.
Besides
being
a
lot
slower
than
human
labour,
it
is
also
only
capable
of
lifting
packaged
items,
and
cannot
grasp
loose
items
such
as
fruits
and
vegetables.
Telexistence
hopes
to
introduce
a
faster
Model-T
within
the
next
two
years.

D
Let’s
take
a
moment
to
consider
the
words
of
one
of
America’s
most
remarkable
philosophers,
Henry
David
Thoreau.
Thoreau
spent
the
years
1845-1847
living
on
the
outskirts
of
society
in
a
small
cabin
in
the
woods
by
the
side
of
Waldon
Pond.
He
called
this
period
of
his
life
an
experiment
of
intentional
living
and
wrote
this
famous
paragraph:
I
went
to
the
woods
because
I
wished
to
live
intentionally,
to
front
only
the
essential
facts
of
life,
and
see
if
I
could
not
learn
what
it
had
to
teach,and
not,when
I
came
to
die,
discover
that
I
had
not
lived.
I
wanted
to
live
deep
and
suck
out
all
the
marrow(精华)of
life.
There
is
great
wisdom
in
Thoreau’s
purpose
here,
and
I
think
it’s
very
useful
to
ask
ourselves
this
question:What
would
our
lives
be
like
if
we
sucked
all
the
marrow
out
of
life?
If
Thoreau’s
quote
sounds
familiar,
it
may
be
from
watching
the
film
Dead
Poets
Society,
a
movie
with
deep
wisdom.
The
film
is
about
young
men
at
a
boarding
school
as
they
prepare
to
do
good
in
the
world
because
they
have
the
privilege
to
bring
about
change.
Their
English
teacher,
played
by
Robin
Williams,
tries
to
convince
them
that
they
should
live
life
well
now
instead
of
believing
that
they
will
find
happiness
after
they
reach
certain
goals.
Part
of
his
argument
is
conveyed
by
quoting
this
famous
passage
from
Thoreau.
Sucking
the
marrow
out
of
life
sounds
simple
enough,
but
as
a
matter
of
fact,
it
may
be
the
most
difficult
thing
that
we
can
ever
do.
But
it
actually
is
as
simple
as
it.
Sounds—though
“simple”
is
not
quite
the
same
thing
as
“easy”.
I
can
think
of
one
barrier
that
often
keeps
us
from
living
our
best
lives.
What
keeps
us
from
getting
the
most
out
of
life
is
our
desire
for
approval
and
fame.
In
the
process
of
always
looking
for
fame
and
glory,
there
is
the
danger
that
we
will
stop
living.
In
order
to
seek
approval
from
others,
we
fail
to
find
a
sense
of
approval
within
our
own
spirit.
When
we
become
aware
that
we
are
missing
so
much
out
of
life,
we
can
decide
that
we
want
to
make
changes.
Our
best
move
is
to
start
small.
If
we
are
having
a
meal,
whether
a
great
festival
feast
or
a
modest
supper,
it
is
always
within
our
power
to
take
it
slowly
and
really
feel,
taste,
and
enjoy
the
food
before
us.
Few
of
us
can
easily
do
like
Henry
David
Thoreau
and
get
away
from
it
all
in
the
wilderness.
But
we
can
make
small
changes
every
single
day.
51.
What
wisdom
is
conveyed
in
Thoreau’s
words?
A.
Stay
away
from
city
life.
B.
Live
one’s
life
to
the
fullest.
C.
Only
nature
can
bring
happiness.
D.
One
can
never
be
too
old
to
learn.
52.

did
the
author
mention
the
film
Dead
Poets
Society?

To
recommend
a
good
film.
B.
To
praise
the
teacher’s
wisdom.
C.
To
further
illustrate
Thoreau’s
wisdom.
D.
To
state
the
film
was
adapted
from
Thoreau’s
works.
53.
What’s
the
author’s
attitude
towards
people’s
seeking
for
approval?

C.
Sympathetic.

Unconcerned.
54.

change
life
for
the
better
according

higher
goals.
C.
Make
small
changes
daily.
D.
Read
more
classics.
55.

The
Camp
Fire
starting
at
6:33
a.m.
on
November
8,
2018
was
the
most
destructive
in
California
history.
It
was
touched
off
by
faulty
electrical
transmission
lines
in
the
town
of
Paradise.
It
burned
for
17
days
and
consumed
153336
acres
of
land,
destroying
nearly19000
buildings,
leaving
50000
homeless,
and
killing
85.
The
damage
was
inestimable.
Shane
Grammer,
a
creative
director
for
Disney’s
theme
parks,
followed
the
news
of
the
fire
closely.
When
his
childhood
friend
Shane
Edwards
posted
photos
of
his
white
chimney-the
only
part
of
his
house
to
survive-Grammer
felt
helpless.
And
then
he
had
an
idea.
“I’ve
got
to
paint
that
chimney.
I’m
not
trying
to
say
anything
and
it’s
just
an
opportunity
for
me
to
express
something.”
said
Grammer.
On
December
31,
Grammer
devoted
three
hours
to
spray-painting
a
black-and-white
image
of
a
woman
on
the
chimney-a
reminder,
perhaps,
of
the
beauty
of
life,
or
even
just
of
life
itself.
He
then
posted
it
on
Instagram.
The
victims
of
the
fire,
especially,
could
not
contain
themselves.
“Beautiful
and
unforgettable,”
one
said.
Another
posted,
“You
bring
beauty
and
hope.”
Grammer
realized
what
he
had
thought
was
a
purely
artistic
expression
had
changed
into
something
deeper,
the
nature
of
true
art.
“When
the
first
mural(壁画)moved
so
many
people
in
this
community,
I
knew
I
had
to
come
back
up,
“Grammer
told
KRCR-TV
in
Redding.
Over
a
period
of
three
months
he
returned
eight
times,
painting
17
murals
of
victims
on
walls,
pickups,
and
pieces
of
buildings.
“There
is
hope,”
he
explains.
“There
is
beauty
in
the
ashes.”
Grammer’s
work
in
Paradise
has
now
initiated
a
movement.
He
has
traveled
the
world
painting
murals
in
dark
places
that
badly
needed
some
light.
“I
want
to
do
something
powerful
and
create
art
that
moves
people,”
he
says.
