Snowflakes
dancing
in
the
sky,
it
was
an
awfully
cold
winter.
Mary
felt
as
gray
as
the
sky
outside.
She
struggled
to
get
by
the
tough
winter
because
her
bills
went
up
while
her
income
went
down.
Her
refrigerator
sat
empty.
Her
only
food
consisted
of
peanut
butter,
bread
and
bananas,
only
enough
for
two
sandwiches.
Worse
still,
it
would
be
four
days
before
she
got
paid.
As
Mary
prepared
to
sit
down
and
eat
half
of
her
remaining
food,
she
heard
a
knock
at
the
door.
Who
could
it
be
on
such
a
freezing
night?
Robbery
scenes
from
films
flashed
across
her
mind.
Then
Mary
shook
her
head
and
laughed
at
her
foolish
thought-no
robber
would
choose
her
as
a
target.
Opening
the
door,
she
saw
a
stranger
standing
outside,
body
trembling
with
cold.
“Madam,
sorry
to
disturb
you,
but
I'm
lost
and
get
stuck
in
the
snow.
Could
you
please
spare
a
piece
of
bread?"
the
stranger
asked
cautiously
and
politely
in
a
weak
but
deep
voice.
“I'm
afraid
not,”
said
Mary,
“but
I
could
make
you
a
peanut
butter
and
banana
sandwich.”
“That
sounds
wonderful,”
the
stranger
answered.
"Mind
if
I
wait
here
on
the
porch?”
“Yes,
I
do
mind,”
Mary
replied,
"but
you
could
come
in
and
eat
it
at
the
table.”
Not
expecting
both
food
and
warmth,
the
stranger
entered
the
house
eagerly.
Mary
hurried
off
to
the
kitchen
for
the
last
four
pieces
of
bread,
peanut
butter,
and
bananas.
In
a
few
minutes,
she
returned
and
invited
him
to
sit
down
to
eat
what
she
could
offer.
After
eating,
the
man
thanked
and
said
goodbye
to
her.
Looking
outside,
Mary
hesitated
a
moment
and
said,
"If
you
don't
mind,
you
can
sleep
on
the
sofa.”
"That
would
be
good
enough,"
responded
the
man
gratefully.
Mary
went
into
her
room,
and
locked
the
door.
The
next
morning,
when
she
woke
up,
she
remembered
the
man.
"How
will
I
tell
him
I
have
nothing
for
breakfast?"
she
asked
herself.
She
dressed,
unlocked,
and
opened
the
door
slightly.

From
the
first
day
he
entered
my
classroom,
Willard
P.
Frank
existed
in
his
own
world,
shutting
out
his
classmates
and
me.
My
attempts
at
building
a
friendly
relationship
with
him
were
met
with
complete
indifference.
I
could
see
that
his
classmates
fared
no
better.
Willard
was
strictly
a
loner
who
seemed
to
have
no
desire
or
need
to
break
his
silence.
Shortly
after
the
Thanksgiving
holiday,
we
received
word
of
the
annual
Christmas
collection
of
money
for
the
less
fortunate
people
in
our
school
district.
“Christmas
is
a
season
of
giving,”
I
told
my
students.
“There
are
a
few
students
in
the
school
who
might
not
have
a
happy
holiday
season.
By
contributing
to
our
Christmas
collection,
you
will
help
buy
food,
clothing
and
toys
for
these
needy
people.
We
will
start
the
collection
tomorrow.”
When
I
called
for
the
contributions
the
next
day,
I
discovered
that
almost
everyone
had
forgotten
except
for
Willard
P.
Frank.
The
boy
dug
deep
into
his
pants
pockets
as
he
walked
slowly
to
my
desk.
Carefully,
he
dropped
two
quarters
into
the
small
container.
“I
don’t
need
milk
for
lunch,”
he
mumbled.
For
a
moment,
just
a
moment,
he
smiled.
Then
he
turned
and
walked
back
to
his
desk.
That
night,
after
school,
I
took
our
few
contributions
to
the
school
principal.
I
couldn’t
help
sharing
the
incident
that
had
taken
place.
“I
may
be
wrong,
but
I
believe
Willard
might
be
getting
ready
to
become
a
part
of
the
world
around
him,”
I
told
the
principal.
“Yes.”
he
nodded.
“And
we
might
do
well
to
have
him
share
a
bit
of
his
world
with
us.
I
just
received
a
list
of
the
poor
families
in
our
school
who
most
need
help
through
the
Christmas
collection.
Here,
take
a
look
at
it.”
As
I
gazed
down
to
read,
I
discovered
Willard
P.
Frank
and
his
family
were
the
top
names
on
the
list.
Seeing
this,
I
decided
to
do
something
for
him.

Throughout
life,
we
come
across
many
people
who
impact
us
in
a
way.
The
person
who
left
a
great
impact
on
me
is
my
dad.
Three
months
after
turning
fourteen,
my
life
was
great.
I
was
getting
settled
into
a
high
school;
my
grades
were
already
starting
off
greatly
and
I
was
making
friends.
One
day
as
I
came
home
from
school,
I
walked
into
our
living
room,
finding
my
mom
and
dad
talking.
My
parents
turned
to
me
and
told
me
to
sit
down
because
there
was
something
important
they
had
to
tell
me.
I
soon
found
out
that
my
dad’s
liver
(肝脏)
was
failing
and
he
needed
an
immediate
transplant.
I
was
shocked
and
confused.
He
was
working
and
never
looked
sick.
My
parents
told
me
not
to
worry
because
everything
would
be
fine.
Four
months
had
passed
and
my
dad
still
had
not
received
a
new
liver;
he
was
progressively
getting
worse.
His
body
seemed
to
be
getting
weaker,
but
he
constantly
said
he
was
fine.
It
was
getting
hard
for
my
family
and
me.
My
dad
had
to
quit
his
job
leaving
my
mom
to
be
the
only
provider.
I
had
to
take
on
the
responsibility
of
cleaning
the
house,
cooking
meals
and
checking
on
my
dad
while
my
mom
was
at
work.
I
had
to
cut
back
on
hanging
with
my
friends
because
my
dad
was
beginning
to
go
in
and
out
of
the
hospital.
My
focus
for
school
was
starting
to
slip.
So
were
my
grades.
Two
nights
before
my
school
spring
break,
my
mom
received
a
call
from
the
hospital
that
my
dad
had
been
in
a
car
accident
and
that
he
was
in
hospital.
Surprisingly,
my
dad
hadn’t
received
a
scratch
on
him.
Then
next
night
my
mom
received
a
call
from
the
doctor
stating
that
there
was
a
liver
that
matched
my
dad’s
body
and
that
he
needed
to
get
to
the
hospital
immediately.
Para.
1
My
mom
and
I
rushed
to
the
hospital
and
my
dad
was
brought
into
surgery.

Sally
had
anxiety
disorder
trouble
that
made
her
fail
to
speak
in
social
situations.
I’m
a
nurse
and
use
Bella
to
help
children
in
my
community,
to
bring
them
comfort
and
confidence
the
way
only
a
dog
can.
I
thought
back
to
the
day
when
I’d
first
brought
Bella
to
the
school.
That
morning
in
January,
her
teacher
led
us
to
a
room.
“Sally
hasn’t
spoken
outside
her
home
in
two
years,”
she
told
me.
“Her
parents
have
taken
her
to
doctors,
but
nothing
has
worked.

A
little
girl
stood
shyly
just
inside
the
doorway.
Her
eyes
brightened
when
she
noticed
my
dog.
“This
is
Bella.”
I
said.
“She
does
tricks.
Would
you
like
to
see?”
Sally
nodded.
I
motioned
with
my
hand.
Bella
lay
down
and
then
rolled
over.
Sally’s
eyes
lit
up.
I
showed
Sally
the
hand
signals
for
various
commands.
She
was
a
natural
with
Bella,
maybe
because
she
couldn’t
rely
on
the
spoken
word
herself.
Bella
sensed
that
and
responded.
Soon
Sally
was
able
to
put
Bella
through
her
paces
all
on
her
own.
I
could
see
her
standing
taller,
more
sure
of
herself
each
time
we
met.
One
morning
in
March
when
she
was
working
with
Bella,
I
heard
a
tiny
voice,
barely
a
whisper,
“Good
dog.
"
Sally
didn't
take
her
eyes
off
Bella,
but
I
wanted
to
jump
for
joy.
Sally
spoke
a
little
more
each
week,
only
to
Bella
at
first,
but
then
to
me.
Later,
she
started
giving
voice
commands
with
her
hand
signals
and
her
confidence
rose.
Now,
five-year-old
Sally
stood
nervously
in
front
of
her
kindergarten
class,
with
Bella,
my
trained
dog,
sitting
calmly
by
her
side.
All
the
eyes
of
her
classmates
were
focused
on
Sally.
They
were
waiting
for
her
to
speak.
It
was
June—only
one
week
of
school
left—but
they
had
never
heard
her
voice.
Not
once.
But
not
a
word
came
out.________________________________________________________________

she

again,

at
me
with
determination.__________________

Jenny
was
a
pretty
eight-year-old
girl.
One
day
when
she
and
her
mother
were
checking
out
at
the
grocery
store,
Jenny
saw
a
plastic
pearl
necklace,
by
which
she
was
totally
defeated.
How
eagerly
she
wanted
it!
But
when
she
saw
the
price,
her
heart
sank
a
little.
She
gathered
up
her
courage
and
asked
her
mother
if
she
would
buy
it
for
her.
Her
mother
said,
“Well,
it
is
a
pretty
necklace,
but
it
costs
an
awful
lot
of
money.
I
can
buy
you
the
necklace,
but
when
we
get
home,
we
should
make
up
a
list
of
housework
that
you
can
do
to
pay
for
the
necklace.”
Jenny
agreed
immediately,
feeling
a
burst
of
joy.
So
her
mother
bought
the
pearl
necklace
for
her.
Jenny
worked
on
her
housework
determinedly
and
earnestly
every
day.
Soon
Jenny
paid
off
the
pearls.
Jenny
had
a
very
loving
daddy.
When
Jenny
went
to
bed,
he
would
read
Jenny
her
favorite
story.
One
night
when
he
finished
the
story,
he
said,
“Jenny,
do
you
love
me?”
“Oh,
yes,
Daddy,
you
know
I
love
you.”
the
little
girl
said
delightedly,
with
a
broad
smile
on
her
face.
“Well,
then,
give
me
your
pearls.”
Hearing
that,
Jenny
froze
there,
an
anxious
expression
twisting
her
face.
“Oh!
Daddy,
not
my
pearls!
But
you
can
have
Rosy,
my
favorite
doll.
Remember
her?
You
gave
her
to
me
last
year
for
my
birthday.
Okay?”
“Oh
no,
darling,
that’s
okay.”
Her
father
brushed
her
cheek
with
a
kiss,
gently
and
calmly.
“Good
night,
little
one.”
A
week
later,
her
father
once
again
asked
Jenny
after
her
story,
“Do
you
love
me?”
“Oh
yes,
Daddy,
you
know
I
love
you.”
the
little
girl
murmured
softly,
trying
to
escape
from
her
father’s
eyes.
“Well,
then,
give
me
your
pearls.”
“Oh,
Daddy,
not
my
pearls!
But
you
can
have
Ribbons,
my
toy
horse.
Do
you
remember
her?
She
is
my
favorite.”
The
little
girl
begged.
“No,
that’s
okay,”
her
father
said,
smiling
broadly
and
sweetly
and
brushed
her
cheek
again
with
a
kiss.
“God
bless
you,
little
one.
Sweet
dreams.”

There
was
something
in
the
elderly
woman’s
grace
that
caught
my
eye.
Although
slow
and
unsure
of
her
steps,
the
woman
moved
with
deliberation(从容),
and
there
was
no
hesitation
in
her
gestures.
It
was
a
few
years
ago,
and
I
had
taken
a
part-time
holiday-season
job
in
a
video
store
at
the
local
shopping
mall.
From
inside
the
store,
I
could
see
the
people
outside
rushing
by.
The
elderly
woman
entered
the
store,
along
with
her
daughter,
who
was
displaying
a
serious
case
of
impatience,
rolling
her
eyes,
sighing
and
checking
her
watch
every
few
seconds.
I
guessed
if
she
had
possessed
a
rope,
she
would
have
fastened
it
to
her
mother
to
drag
her
along
to
keep
step
with
the
rush
of
other
shoppers.
The
elderly
woman
separated
from
her
daughter
and
began
to
seek
through
the
DVDs
on
the
nearest
shelf.
After
the
slightest
hesitation,
I
walked
over
and
asked
if
I
could
help
her
find
something.
The
woman
smiled
up
at
me
and
showed
me
a
title
written
on
an
old
piece
of
paper.
Rather
than
rush
off
to
locate
the
DVD
for
the
woman,
I
asked
her
to
walk
with
me
so
I
could
show
her
where
she
could
find
it.
Looking
back,
I
thought
I
wanted
to
enjoy
her
company
for
a
moment.
Something
about
her
deliberate
movements
reminded
me
of
my
own
mother,
who’d
passed
away
the
previous
Christmas.
I
missed
my
mom
and
still
felt
regretful
about
the
moments
when
I’d
used
my
impatience
to
make
her
life
unhappy.
As
we
walked
along
the
back
of
the
store,
I
introduced
its
floor
plan:
old
television
shows,
action
movies,
cartoons,
science
fiction.
The
woman
seemed
glad
of
the
unrushed
company
and
casual
conversation.
We
found
the
DVD
and
she
thanked
me,
saying
that
it
was
the
one
she’d
enjoyed
when
she
was
her
daughter’s
age.
Unwillingly,
I
accompanied
her
to
the
cash
register,
realizing
I
had
to
return
the
elderly
woman
to
her
daughter,
who
was
still
tapping
her
foot
at
the
front
of
the
store.

his
head.
Found
unconscious,
he
was
hospitalized
for
three
days
with
a
cerebral
concussion
(脑震荡).
One
day
in
the
same
month,
Jim
borrowed
a
friend’s
station
wagon
and
drove
to
Kennedy
Airport
to
pick
up
Anne’s
brother
and
family.
When
he
returned
the
borrowed
car
at
10
p.m.,
he
was
unaware
that
the
wallet
containing
his
identification
had
slipped
out
of
his
pocket
onto
the
floor
of
the
car.
After
that,
he
was
never
seen
again.
So
what
really
happened
to
Anne’s
husband?
During
his
walk
home,
Jim
had
indeed
blacked
out
(昏厥),
losing
all
ability
to
remember
who
he
was
and
where
he
lived.
What
happened
then
is
unclear.
The
next
thing
he
knew
was
that
he
was
in
downtown
Philadelphia,
a
city
he
had
never
visited
before.
Seeing
signs
advertising
the
services
of
a
James
Peters,
a
real
estate
broker,
Jim
adopted
James
Peters
as
his
own
name.
He
had
no
past;
his
only
reality
was
the
present.
James
Peters
got
a
Social
Security
card,
which
could
be
obtained
at
that
time
without
showing
a
birth
certificate,
and
took
a
job
in
a
health
club.
He
next
worked
at
a
cancer
research
institute,
cleaning
out
animal
cages.
He
also
got
a
night-shift
job
at
the
P&P
luncheonette,
where
he
became
well
known
for
his
omelets
(煎蛋卷),
as
well
as
his
kindness
and
good
humor.

The
event
that
stands
out
in
Tom's
memory
happened
one
morning
when
Tom
was
only
ten
years
old.
He
was
at
home
with
his
elder
sister
Jane.
Tom
was
doing
his
homework
when
he
heard
raised
voices.
At
first
he
thought
nothing
of
it
since
customers
in
the
motorcycle
shop
directly
below
their
flat
often
became
loud,
but
he
soon
realized
this
time
it
was
different.
“Quick!
Quick!
Remove
the
motorcycles
from
the
shop.”
someone
shouted.
Then
a
thick
burning
smell
filled
the
air.
When
Tom
opened
the
front
door
of
their
flat
to
investigate,
a
thick
cloud
of
smoke
greeted
him.
The
motorcycle
shop
had
caught
fire
and
people
were
running
and
crying.
Jane,
who
had
been
playing
the
violin
in
her
room,
hurried
to
the
living
room.
They
rushed
out
of
the
door
and
along
the
corridor(走廊)
through
the
smoke.
They
were
heading
towards
the
stairway
at
the
far
end
of
the
corridor
when
Jane
suddenly
stopped.
She
turned
around
and
headed
back
the
way
they
came.
Tom
had
no
idea
what
she
was
doing,
but
he
followed
her.
Jane
had
suddenly
remembered
the
lady
in
her
70s
who
lived
next
door
to
them,
whom
they
called
Makcik.
Jane
began
banging
on
Makcik's
door,
but
got
no
answer.
As
the
smoke
thickened
around
them,
Tom
could
see
many
of
their
neighbors
running
for
safety.
The
thought
of
fear
crossed
his
mind.
“She
might
have
run
for
safety
like
everyone
else!”
Tom
cried.
However,
Jane
refused
to
give
up.
“I
know
Makcik's
still
inside.”
She
said
she
was
familiar
with
Makcik's
daily
routine
and
was
certain
she
would
still
be
sleeping.
She
hit
against
the
door.
“Go
downstairs.
Go
now!
Go!”

We
often
take
for
granted
the
very
things
that
most
deserve
our
gratitude.
Growing
up,
I
wanted
to
be
just
like
my
mom.
Kind
and
caring,
she
always
seemed
to
make
people
comfortable
in
her
presence.
For
years
she
was
a
volunteer
in
our
community.
I
loved
going
to
the
local
nursing
home
to
help
with
her
until
I
hit
my
preteen
years.
Suddenly,
I
was
too
caught
up
in
my
adolescent
world
to
worry
about
helping
others.
One
particular
summer
day
when
I
was
twelve,
Mom
came
into
my
room
and
told
me
to
get
up
and
meet
her
at
the
car.
I
had
planned
to
spend
the
day
at
the
lake
with
friends.
Why
did
she
have
to
ruin
everything?
Eventually,
I
made
my
way
outside.
I
imagined
the
lake
water
cooling
my
skin.
Annoyed,
I
climbed
into
the
car
and
slammed
the
door
shut.
I
sat
in
silence,
too
upset
to
make
a
conversation.
“Tasha,
would
you
like
to
know
where
we
are
going?”
Mom
asked
calmly.
“I
guess.
.
.

I
murmured
under
my
breath.
“Sweetheart,
we
are
going
to
a
children's
shelter,
I
have
been
there
before
and
I
think
it
would
benefit
you,”she
explained.
I
felt
a
knot
slowly
form
in
my
stomach.
How
was
I
supposed
to
help
there?
When
we
reached
the
shelter,
I
was
rather
surprised.
It
was
a
large
white
Victorian
home.
As
we
approached
the
large
front
porch,
wind
bells
played
a
calming
tune
while
trees
and
blossoms
welcomed
us.
Maybe
this
wasn't
going
to
be
so
bad.
Mom
rang
the
doorbell.
The
door
flew
open
and
we
were
led
to
the
front
room
,
where
all
of
the
children
were
playing.
Toys
were
spread
out
across
the
floor.
I
noticed
a
baby
whose
body
was
scarred
with
wounds.
The
majority
of
the
children
had
noticeable
physical
scars(伤疤)such
as
cuts,
scratches
and
bums.
What
a
terrible
life
they
had
had
before
they
moved
here!
My
heart
sank.

It
was
a
cool
evening
in
spring.
I
was
just
finishing
the
dinner
dishes
when
the
phone
rang.
It
was
unusual
because
our
landline
seldom
rang.
Nearly
everyone
we
knew
contacted
us
on
our
cell
phones.
“This
is
Janet
Rhodes.”
said
a
familiar
voice
that
I
struggled
to
place.
That
name
seemed
familiar,
too.
I
knew
a
lot
of
people,
having
lived
on
two
coasts
and
in
most
major
cities
in
California
for
the
past
thirty
years.
“I
am
calling
because
I
need
to
apologize
to
you,”
Janet
stated.
That’s
when
I
suddenly
realized
who
she
was.
“That
day
when
I
came
into
your
classroom
and
chewed
you
out
for
disciplining
my
daughter,
I
was
way
out
of
line.
I
know
now
that
you
were
doing
what
was
best
for
her.
You
were
right.”
Twenty
years
earlier,
it
was
only
my
second
year
of
teaching.
Janet’s
daughter,
Stephanie,
had
acted
out
toward
some
of
the
other
girls
in
the
classroom,
and
I
had
made
her
stay
in
from
breaks
between
classes.
I
was
kind
and
fair
when
I
punished
her.
The
truth
is
that
I
really
liked
Stephanie,
but
she
clearly
didn’t
like
being
disciplined.
She
told
her
mother,
and
Janet
felt
the
need
to
defend
her
child.
After
school,
she
flew
into
my
classroom
and
accused
me
of
everything
from
being
unfair
to
playing
favorites
to
not
caring
about
my
students.
She
was
yelling
so
loudly
that
every
teacher
in
the
building
heard
her
accusations,
including
my
principal.
Her
words
shocked
me
because
none
of
her
criticisms
was
true.
I
managed
to
keep
from
crying
while
she
stood
in
front
of
me,
but
as
soon
as
she
left
the
room,
I
broke
down.
I
cried
all
evening
on
and
off
through
that
sleepless
night.
I
had
once
felt
such
joy
teaching
my
kids,
but
now
I
felt
like
I
was
under
a
microscope
in
my
classroom.
For
the
next
few
weeks,
her
words
caused
me
to
second-guess
everything
I
did
with
my
students.
I
doubted
my
ability
and
even
my
own
heart.
Despite
how
her
mother
had
treated
me,
I
knew
I
would
discipline
Stephanie
again
if
she
acted
out.
It
was
the
right
thing
to
do.

Snowflakes
dancing
in
the
sky,
it
was
an
awfully
cold
winter.
Mary
felt
as
gray
as
the
sky
outside.
She
struggled
to
get
by
the
tough
winter
because
her
bills
went
up
while
her
income
went
down.
Her
refrigerator
sat
empty.
Her
only
food
consisted
of
peanut
butter,
bread
and
bananas,
only
enough
for
two
sandwiches.
Worse
still,
it
would
be
four
days
before
she
got
paid.
As
Mary
prepared
to
sit
down
and
eat
half
of
her
remaining
food,
she
heard
a
knock
at
the
door.
Who
could
it
be
on
such
a
freezing
night?
Robbery
scenes
from
films
flashed
across
her
mind.
Then
Mary
shook
her
head
and
laughed
at
her
foolish
thought-no
robber
would
choose
her
as
a
target.
Opening
the
door,
she
saw
a
stranger
standing
outside,
body
trembling
with
cold.
“Madam,
sorry
to
disturb
you,
but
I'm
lost
and
get
stuck
in
the
snow.
Could
you
please
spare
a
piece
of
bread?"
the
stranger
asked
cautiously
and
politely
in
a
weak
but
deep
voice.
“I'm
afraid
not,”
said
Mary,
“but
I
could
make
you
a
peanut
butter
and
banana
sandwich.”
“That
sounds
wonderful,”
the
stranger
answered.
"Mind
if
I
wait
here
on
the
porch?”
“Yes,
I
do
mind,”
Mary
replied,
"but
you
could
come
in
and
eat
it
at
the
table.”
Not
expecting
both
food
and
warmth,
the
stranger
entered
the
house
eagerly.
Mary
hurried
off
to
the
kitchen
for
the
last
four
pieces
of
bread,
peanut
butter,
and
bananas.
In
a
few
minutes,
she
returned
and
invited
him
to
sit
down
to
eat
what
she
could
offer.
After
eating,
the
man
thanked
and
said
goodbye
to
her.
Looking
outside,
Mary
hesitated
a
moment
and
said,
"If
you
don't
mind,
you
can
sleep
on
the
sofa.”
"That
would
be
good
enough,"
responded
the
man
gratefully.
Mary
went
into
her
room,
and
locked
the
door.
The
next
morning,
when
she
woke
up,
she
remembered
the
man.
"How
will
I
tell
him
I
have
nothing
for
breakfast?"
she
asked
herself.
She
dressed,

slightly.

【答案】To
her
surprise,
the
man
was
nowhere
to
be
seen.
Looking
for
him
thoroughly
once
again,
she
confirmed
that
the
stranger
had
left,
without
saying
goodbye.
Apparently,
the
“robber”
had
left
without
taking
plaining
of
the
man's
impoliteness,
Mary
collapsed
on
the
sofa
where
she
put
him
up
the
night
before,
getting
a
little
bit
annoyed.
With
nothing
left
to
eat,
she
sighed,
"Anyway,
good
luck
to
him!"
She
got
down
to
tidying
up
the
sofa
when
an
envelope
lying
on
it
came
into
her
eyes.
Mary
opened
the
envelope
and
found
a
letter.
It
read,
“It
is
harder
to
trust
a
stranger,
especially
when
that
stranger
appears
homeless.
You
have
helped
me
restore
faith
in
humanity
so
you
deserve
what
you
have
received.
"Mary
had
no
idea
what
the
stranger
meant
until
she
saw
a
cheque
worth
$
10,000.
Tears
of
delight
welled
up
in
her
eyes.
As
it
turned
out,
the
stranger,
who
got
stuck
in
the
heavy
snow
and
turned
to
her
for
help,
was
a
successful
businessman.
Gazing
at
the
warm
light
cast
through
the
window,
she
decided
to
pay
the
kindness
forward
whatever
the
future
would
hold.

From
the
first
day
he
entered
my
classroom,
Willard
P.
Frank
existed
in
his
own
world,
shutting
out
his
classmates
and
me.
My
attempts
at
building
a
friendly
relationship
with
him
were
met
with
complete
indifference.
I
could
see
that
his
classmates
fared
no
better.
Willard
was
strictly
a
loner
who
seemed
to
have
no
desire
or
need
to
break
his
silence.
Shortly
after
the
Thanksgiving
holiday,
we
received
word
of
the
annual
Christmas
collection
of
money
for
the
less
fortunate
people
in
our
school
district.
“Christmas
is
a
season
of
giving,”
I
told
my
students.
“There
are
a
few
students
in
the
school
who
might
not
have
a
happy
holiday
season.
By
contributing
to
our
Christmas
collection,
you
will
help
buy
food,
clothing
and
toys
for
these
needy
people.
We
will
start
the
collection
tomorrow.”
When
I
called
for
the
contributions
the
next
day,
I
discovered
that
almost
everyone
had
forgotten
except
for
Willard
P.
Frank.
The
boy
dug
deep
into
his
pants
pockets
as
he
walked
slowly
to
my
desk.
Carefully,
he
dropped
two
quarters
into
the
small
container.
“I
don’t
need
milk
for
lunch,”
he
mumbled.
For
a
moment,
just
a
moment,
he
smiled.
Then
he
turned
and
walked
back
to
his
desk.
That
night,
after
school,
I
took
our
few
contributions
to
the
school
principal.
I
couldn’t
help
sharing
the
incident
that
had
taken
place.
“I
may
be
wrong,
but
I
believe
Willard
might
be
getting
ready
to
become
a
part
of
the
world
around
him,”
I
told
the
principal.
“Yes.”
he
nodded.
“And
we
might
do
well
to
have
him
share
a
bit
of
his
world
with
us.
I
just
received
a
list
of
the
poor
families
in
our
school
who
most
need
help
through
the

Paragraph
1:
On
that
Sunday,
I
paid
a
visit
to
Willard’s
family.
On
entering
his
house,
I
was
surprised
to
find
a
barely
empty
room
with
a
broken
bed
and
a
dirty
sofa.
Willard
told
me
his
mother
died
and
that
his
father
was
missing,
leaving
him
to
live
with
a
sick
grandma.
When
asked
why
he
had
given
the
two
quarters,
Willard
mumbled,
“I
just
want
to
help
others
by
contributing
my
milk
money.”
I
couldn’t
help
bursting
into
tears,
thinking
I
should
help
him
break
his
silence.
Paragraph
2:
The
next
day,
I
had
a
special
class
for
Willard.
I
shared
his
story
with
the
whole
class
and
said,
“Now,
on
behalf
of
the
people
in
need,
I
should
say
thanks
to
Willard,
you
are

After
a
silence,
all
the
students
clapped,
saying
“Willard,
you
are
great!”
and
they
walked
to
him
and
hugged
him
tightly.
A
friend
relationship
was
built
and
Willard’s
silence
was
broken
by
a
smile
on
his
face.
【分析】
本篇书面表达是读后续写。通过阅读所给文章可知,沉默寡言的Willard同学,在感恩节其他同学都忘记带要捐赠的东西时,Willard毅然决然捐出了自己的牛奶费用。作者随后在贫困生名单中发现Willard赫然在列,所以决定帮助Willard。
【详解】
续写部分分为两段,第一段开头是:星期天我前往Willard家进行家访。上文讲到Willard时贫困家庭,所以这一段落的续写应该是围绕着Willard家有多么贫困所展开。所以应该具体写家中的装潢来体现贫困。第二段的开头:接下来的一天,我决定给Willard一场特别的课。上文说到虽然贫困,但是Willard还是捐出了自己的牛奶钱。所以这一段肯定是要通过这堂课对Willard的奉献精神进行赞扬,以及课堂结束后所带来的结果。
续写时要求使用文章中的关键词,所以这就增加了写作难度,我们要熟悉文章的主要大意以及关键词,恰当的时候加以运用。最后还要注意所续写短文的词数应为150左右。按要求完成写作任务。
【点睛】
本文描写详略得当,使用了高级词汇和高级句子。如:can’t
help
doing;
burst
into
tears;
mumble等高级词汇;宾语从句和状语从句的省略When
asked
why
he
had
given
the
two
quarters,
Willard
mumbled,
“I
just
want
to
help
others
by
contributing
my
milk
money.”展示了句式的多样性;而非谓语作状语I
couldn’t
help
bursting
into
tears,
thinking
I
should
help
him
break
his
silence.更是写得好;通过这些高级句型,让这篇文章增色不少。
3.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Throughout

【分析】
这是一篇读后续写。
【详解】
通过阅读所给文章可知,作者十四岁时一天放学回家父母告诉作者,父亲需要肝脏移植,四个月过去了,父亲仍然没有接受新的肝脏移植;他的病情越来越严重。他的身体似乎越来越虚弱,但他不断地说他很好。作者的母亲成为了家庭的支撑,作者也必须承担起打扫房间、做饭和照看爸爸的责任。在学校放春假的前两天晚上,妈妈接到了医院的电话,说作者父亲出了车祸,住院了。令人惊讶的是,父亲身上没有任何伤痕。第二天晚上,母亲接到了医生的电话,说有一个肝脏与父亲的身体匹配,需要马上送到医院。
续写部分分为两段,第一段开头是:我和妈妈赶到医院,爸爸被送进了手术室。所以后文应该是讲述父亲接受手术后的情况,手术很成功,但父亲至少一个月都不能出院。在父亲住院期间,他正在适应他的新肝脏,父亲仍然说一切都会好起来的。第二段开头是:我在家里承担了那么多的责任,而且总是穿着我父亲的衣服,这些都塑造了我今天的样子。本段应该写作者在这件事中的体会,作者变得更负责,父亲也教会了作者要积极地面对生活。同时,看到父亲住院几个月的经历也激励作者进入医学领域,成为一名医生,可以尽自己所能去帮助那些需要帮助的人。
最后还要注意所续写短文的词数应为150左右,按要求完成写作任务。

4.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Sally
had
anxiety
disorder
trouble
that
made
her
fail
to
speak
in
social
situations.
I’m
a
nurse
and
use
Bella
to
help
children
in
my
community,
to
bring
them
comfort
and
confidence
the
way
only
a
dog
can.
I
thought
back
to
the
day
when
I’d
first
brought
Bella
to
the
school.
That
morning
in
January,
her
teacher
led
us
to
a
room.
“Sally
hasn’t
spoken
outside
her
home
in
two
years,”
she
told
me.
“Her
parents
have
taken
her
to
doctors,
but
nothing
has
worked.

A
little
girl
stood
shyly
just
inside
the
doorway.
Her
eyes
brightened
when
she
noticed
my
dog.
“This
is
Bella.”
I
said.
“She
does
tricks.
Would
you
like
to
see?”
Sally
nodded.
I
motioned
with
my
hand.
Bella
lay
down
and
then
rolled
over.
Sally’s
eyes
lit
up.
I
showed
Sally
the
hand
signals
for
various
commands.
She
was
a
natural
with
Bella,
maybe
because
she
couldn’t
rely
on
the
spoken
word
herself.
Bella
sensed
that
and
responded.
Soon
Sally
was
able
to
put
Bella
through
her
paces
all
on
her
own.
I
could
see
her
standing
taller,
more
sure
of
herself
each
time
we
met.
One
morning
in
March
when
she
was
working
with
Bella,
I
heard
a
tiny
voice,
barely
a
whisper,
“Good
dog.
"
Sally
didn't
take
her
eyes
off
Bella,
but
I
wanted
to
jump
for
joy.
Sally
spoke
a
little
more
each
week,
only
to
Bella
at
first,
but
then
to
me.
Later,
she
started
giving
voice
commands
with
her
hand
signals
and
her
confidence
rose.
Now,
five-year-old
Sally
stood
nervously
in
front
of
her
kindergarten
class,
with
Bella,
my
trained
dog,
sitting
calmly
by
her
side.
All
the
eyes
of
her
classmates
were
focused
on
Sally.
They
were
waiting
for
her
to
speak.
It
was
June—only
one
week
of
school
left—but
they
had
never
heard
her
voice.
Not
once.

【详解】
通过阅读所给文章可知,文章主要讲了萨莉患有焦虑症,这使她在社交场合不能说话。作者是一名护士,用贝拉来帮助社区里的孩子们,给他们带来安慰和信心,只有狗才能做到这一点。在小狗贝拉的帮助下,萨莉逐渐可以在社交场合说话了。一天,在幼儿园里,大家都在等待着萨莉说话。续写部分分为两段,第一段开头是:但是,萨莉一个字也没有说出来,所以后文应该是讲述萨莉一言不发的尴尬场景。第二段开头是:第二个星期,她抬头坚定地看着我,告诉我她想再试一次。本段应该写萨莉再次尝试,成功地把自己的好朋友小狗贝拉介绍给了自己的同学们。最后还要注意所续写短文的词数应为150左右。

Jenny
was
a
pretty
eight-year-old
girl.
One
day
when
she
and
her
mother
were
checking
out
at
the
grocery
store,
Jenny
saw
a
plastic
pearl
necklace,
by
which
she
was
totally
defeated.
How
eagerly
she
wanted
it!
But
when
she
saw
the
price,
her
heart
sank
a
little.
She
gathered
up
her
courage
and
asked
her
mother
if
she
would
buy
it
for
her.
Her
mother
said,
“Well,
it
is
a
pretty
necklace,
but
it
costs
an
awful
lot
of
money.
I
can
buy
you
the
necklace,

when
we

we
should

list
of
housework
that
you
can

the

Jenny
agreed

feeling
a

So
her

her.
Jenny

“Well,

me
your

Hearing
that,
Jenny

Her
father
brushed
her
cheek
with
a
kiss,
gently
and
calmly.
“Good
night,
little
one.”
A
week
later,
her
father
once
again
asked
Jenny
after
her
story,
“Do
you
love
me?”
“Oh
yes,
Daddy,
you

I

you.”
the
little
girl
murmured
softly,
trying
to
escape

“Well,
then,
give
me
your
pearls.”
“Oh,
Daddy,
not
my

But
you
can
have
Ribbons,
my
toy
horse.
Do
you
remember
her?
She
is
my
favorite.”
The
little
girl
begged.
“No,
that’s
okay,”
her
father
said,
smiling
broadly
and
sweetly
and
brushed
her
cheek
again
with
a
kiss.
“God
bless

【分析】
本篇书面表达考查读后续写。
【详解】
读后续写主要以故事类文本为主,考生在阅读时,不应该走马观花看情节,而应找出文章的六要素(who,
when,
where,
what,
how,
why),然后将每个主要事件都用六要素串联成一句话。这样一来,冗长的故事就成了两三句,文章的结构自然清晰明了。同时,考生还应该分析已给出的两个开头句包含的主要句子结构,这样才能保证正确的写作方向。为了写出符合故事发展的“尾巴”,必须先分析原文的情节发展方向。除了采用上文提到过的六要素分析法,在审题时还应该着重分析三个点:起因、转折、高潮。只有确定了故事的起因,考生才能合理推断这个起因会导致的可能结果;只有确定了故事的转折,考生才能合理地将故事发展下去。不过,在设计情节时,同样要考虑六要素,将它们串联成一句话,再将这句话添砖加瓦变成段落。在语言方面,注意主谓语一致,时态呼应,用词贴切,合理使用高分词汇、短语及句型;不要抄原文,情节合情合理;书写美观,保持卷面整洁。
【点睛】

necklace

in
the
box,
which
set
her
heart
racing.使用了which引导的定语从句。这些为文章增色不少,而且全文中没有中国式英语的句式,显示了很高的驾驭英语的能力。另外,文章思路清晰、层次分明,上下句转换自然,为文章增色添彩。
6.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
There
was
something
in
the
elderly
woman’s
grace
that
caught
my
eye.
Although
slow
and
unsure
of
her
steps,
the
woman
moved
with
deliberation(从容),
and
there
was
no
hesitation
in
her
gestures.
It
was
a
few
years
ago,
and
I
had
taken
a
part-time
holiday-season
job
in
a
video
store
at
the
local
shopping
mall.
From
inside
the
store,
I
could
see
the
people
outside
rushing
by.
The
elderly
woman
entered
the
store,
along
with
her
daughter,
who
was
displaying
a
serious
case
of
impatience,
rolling
her
eyes,
sighing
and
checking
her
watch
every
few
seconds.
I
guessed
if
she
had
possessed
a
rope,
she
would
have
fastened
it
to
her
mother
to
drag
her
along
to
keep
step
with
the
rush
of
other
shoppers.
The
elderly
woman
separated
from
her
daughter
and
began
to
seek
through
the
DVDs
on
the
nearest
shelf.
After
the
slightest
hesitation,
I
walked
over
and
asked
if
I
could
help
her
find
something.
The
woman
smiled
up
at
me
and
showed
me
a
title
written
on
an
old
piece
of
paper.
Rather
than
rush
off
to
locate
the
DVD
for
the
woman,
I
asked
her
to
walk
with
me
so
I
could
show
her
where
she
could
find
it.
Looking
back,
I
thought
I
wanted
to
enjoy
her
company
for
a
moment.
Something
about
her
deliberate
movements
reminded
me
of
my
own
mother,
who’d
passed
away
the
previous
Christmas.
I
missed
my
mom
and
still
felt
regretful
about
the
moments
when
I’d
used
my
impatience
to
make
her
life
unhappy.
As
we
walked
along
the
back
of
the
store,
I
introduced
its
floor
plan:
old
television
shows,
action
movies,
cartoons,
science
fiction.
The
woman
seemed
glad
of
the
unrushed
company
and
casual
conversation.
We
found
the
DVD
and
she
thanked
me,
saying
that
it
was
the
one
she’d
enjoyed
when
she
was
her
daughter’s
age.
Unwillingly,
I
accompanied
her
to
the
cash
register,
realizing
I
had
to
return
the
elderly
woman
to
her
daughter,
who
was
still
tapping
her
foot
at
the
front
of
the
store.

As
the
elderly
woman
was
waiting
in
the
queue
at
the
cash
register,
I
walked
over
to
her
daughter.
“Mind
some
advice?”
I
asked.
She
rolled
her
eyes
and
said.
“Of
course
not.”
But
clearly
there
was
annoyance
in
her
reply.
I
smiled
to
show
her
I
wasn’t
criticizing.
“Cherish
her
and
cherish
every
single
moment
you
can
stay
with
her,”
I
said,
to
her
surprise,
And
then
I
answered
her
curious
expression
by
saying,
“When
she’s
gone,
it’s
these
little
moments
that
will
come
back
to
you.
Moments
like
this.”
Having
finished
saying
this,
I
noticed
the
elderly
woman
moving
with
her
deliberation(优雅)
back
to
her
daughter.
Para.

Together
they
made
their
way
toward
the
store’s
exit.
They
stood
there
for
a
moment,
side
by
side,
watching
the
rush
of
the
holiday
current
and
then
looking
at
each
other.
Slowly,
the
daughter
placed
her
arm
with
apparently
unaccustomed
affection
around
her
mother’s
shoulders
and
gently
guided
her
back
into
the
crowd.
Tears
filled
my
eyes
when
I
watched
them
disappearing
in
the
crowd.
【分析】
这是一篇读后续写作文。
【详解】
通过阅读所给文章可知,作者在录像带工作做兼职时,看到了一对母女一起走进了商店。女儿非常不耐烦,而母亲只是从容地选着DVD。看到这里作者想到了自己的母亲,于是在收银台排队时给了女儿一些忠告。
续写部分分为两段,第一段开头是:当那位老妇人在收银台排队时,我走向她的女儿。可知后文应当描写作者和女儿的对话,作者劝告女儿珍惜现在和母亲相处的时刻;第二段开头是:他们一起朝商店的出口走去。后文应当描写听了作者建议的女儿和母亲在一起的表现,她把她的胳膊放在她母亲的肩膀上,带着明显不习惯的感情,轻轻地把她带回到人群中。作者看着消失在人群中,热泪盈眶。
最后注意词数为150词左右。
【点睛】
本文描写详略得当,使用了高级词汇和高级句子。如:

7.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
The
McDonnells
lived
in
a
small
brick
house
in
Larchmont,
a
suburb
of
New
York
City.
Jim
was
foreman
of
mail
carriers
at
the
post
office
where
he
had
worked
for
25
years.
Married
in
1960,
he
and
Anne
were
childless.
On
the
evening
of
the
eleventh
anniversary
of
their
marriage,
carrying
out
the
garbage,
Jim
McDonnell
slipped
on
icy
steps,
and
struck
his
head.
A
few
days
later,
driving
to
work,
he
lost
control
of
the
car,
hit
a
telephone
pole,
and
banged
his
forehead
against
the
windshield.
The
following
day
he
fell
off
the
stairs,
and
again
he
banged
his
head.
Found
unconscious,
he
was
hospitalized
for
three
days
with
a
cerebral
concussion
(脑震荡).
One
day
in
the
same
month,
Jim
borrowed
a
friend’s
station
wagon
and
drove
to
Kennedy

to
pick
up
Anne’s
brother
and
family.
When
he
returned
the
borrowed
car
at
10
p.m.,
he
was
unaware
that
the
wallet
containing
his
identification
had
slipped
out
of
his
pocket
onto
the
floor
of
the
car.
After
that,
he
was
never
seen
again.
So
what
really
happened
to
Anne’s
husband?
During
his
walk
home,
Jim
had
indeed
blacked
out
(昏厥),
losing
all
ability
to
remember
who
he
was
and
where
he
lived.
What
happened
then
is
unclear.
The
next
thing
he
knew
was
that
he
was
in
downtown
Philadelphia,
a
city
he
had
never
visited
before.
Seeing
signs
advertising
the
services
of
a
James
Peters,
a
real
estate
broker,
Jim
adopted
James
Peters
as
his
own
name.
He
had
no
past;
his
only
reality
was
the
present.
James
Peters
got
a
Social
Security
card,
which
could
be
obtained
at
that
time
without
showing
a
birth
certificate,
and
took
a
job
in
a
health
club.
He
next
worked
at
a
cancer
research
institute,
cleaning
out
animal
cages.
He
also
got
a
night-shift
job
at
the
P&P
luncheonette,
where
he
became
well
known
for
his
omelets
(煎蛋卷),
as
well
as
his
kindness
and
good
humor.

Tom

customers

【分析】
这是一篇读后续写作文。
【详解】
通过阅读所给文章可知,文章主要记叙了Tom和姐姐Jane在家时,楼下摩托车店突然失火。他们冲出门,穿过浓烟,穿过走廊。Jane突然想起了住在他们隔壁的一位70多岁的老太太,想要告诉她让她逃生。
续写部分分为两段,第一段开头是:Tom注意到火焰正在上升。所以后文应该是讲述火烧上来后他们的反应,Tom吓呆了,像生了根似的站在原地,紧紧地抓住Jane的手,他们两个都咳嗽得很厉害。Jane还是坚持撞门。第二段开头是:幸运的是,一些路过的邻居停下来提供帮助。本段应该写他们和邻居一起救出了老太太的经过。
最后还要注意所续写短文的词数应为150左右。
【点睛】
本文描写详略得当,使用了高级词汇和高级句子。如:both
of,
for
safety,
as

as
possible等高级词汇;让步状语从句Time

We
often

for

the
very
things
that
most
deserve
our

Growing

I
wanted
to

just

my
mom.
Kind

caring,
she
always

in
her

For
years
she

I
loved

home
to

her
until
I

Suddenly,
I
was

up
in
my
adolescent
world
to
worry
about
helping
others.
One
particular
summer
day
when
I
was
twelve,
Mom
came
into
my
room
and
told
me
to
get
up
and
meet
her
at
the
car.
I
had
planned
to
spend
the
day
at
the
lake
with
friends.
Why
did
she
have
to
ruin
everything?
Eventually,
I
made
my
way
outside.
I
imagined
the
lake
water
cooling
my
skin.
Annoyed,
I
climbed
into
the
car
and
slammed
the
door
shut.
I
sat
in
silence,
too
upset
to
make
a
conversation.
“Tasha,
would
you
like
to
know
where
we
are
going?”
Mom
asked
calmly.
“I
guess.
.
.

I
murmured
under
my
breath.
“Sweetheart,
we
are
going
to
a
children's
shelter,
I
have
been
there
before
and
I
think
it
would
benefit
you,”she
explained.
I
felt
a
knot
slowly
form
in
my
stomach.
How
was
I
supposed
to
help
there?
When
we
reached
the
shelter,
I
was
rather
surprised.
It
was
a
large
white
Victorian
home.
As
we
approached
the
large
front
porch,
wind
bells
played
a
calming
tune
while
trees
and
blossoms
welcomed
us.
Maybe
this
wasn't
going
to
be
so
bad.
Mom
rang
the
doorbell.
The
door
flew
open
and
we
were
led
to
the
front
room
,
where
all
of
the
children
were
playing.
Toys
were
spread
out
across
the
floor.
I
noticed
a
baby
whose
body
was
scarred
with
wounds.
The
majority
of
the
children
had
noticeable
physical
scars(伤疤)such
as
cuts,
scratches
and
bums.
What
a
terrible
life
they
had
had
before
they
moved
here!
My
heart
sank.

Our

I
returned

During
those

some
of

I
felt
sore

I

At

【分析】
本篇书面表达是读后续写。根据所给阅读材料的内容,在所给材料后续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
通过阅读所给文章可知,作者的母亲善良又乐于照顾别人,只要她在的时候别人就会感到很舒服,她一直在社区做志愿者。作者通过一次去避难所的经历,自己青春期那种不愿帮助别人的心理变成了对妈妈的敬佩,妈妈教会作者要感恩。我们经常认为理所应当的事情,其实最值得感恩。
【详解】
续写部分分为两段,都没有给开头,这就为写作提供了更广阔的发挥空间,但同时对于习惯命题作文的学生来说,也是挑战。
第一段可以写作者到达避难后的所看、所听、所思和所想,第二段可以写作者多次到避难所的经历,从中学到、得到和感受到的东西,升华文章开头的主旨:我们经常认为理所应当的事情,其实最值得感恩。
【点睛】
该篇作文在逻辑、语言方面做到了平衡、全面。
首先,在逻辑上,该篇文章做到了合理合情:从开始乐意陪伴妈妈到青春期时对妈妈所做事情的不情愿和恼怒,在续写时通过自己亲历避难所的人和事,感悟到一些道理,升华主旨,续写情节发展符合给出的开头所限定的情景要求。
在语言上,这篇文章活用了许多小词,使文章的可读性大大增加。例如,在续写部分:looking
around,
looked
down
,looking
over,reached
up,with
a
smile
,made
my
day等等,使用了非谓语动词的语法:some
of
the
children
including
Ashley
shared
their
troubled
pasts
with
me
in
great
detail.,表达精练。最后定语从句:It
was
a
profound
time
in
my
young
life
that
I
will
never
forget.和强调句:It
was
Mom
who
taught
me
the
valuable
lesson
that
summer.的使用,升华了主旨,画龙点晴。
10.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It
was
a
cool
evening
in
spring.
I
was
just
finishing
the
dinner
dishes
when
the
phone
rang.
It
was
unusual
because
our
landline
seldom
rang.
Nearly
everyone
we
knew
contacted
us
on
our
cell
phones.
“This
is
Janet
Rhodes.”
said
a
familiar
voice
that
I
struggled
to
place.
That
name
seemed
familiar,
too.
I
knew
a
lot
of
people,
having
lived
on
two
coasts
and
in
most
major
cities
in
California
for
the
past
thirty
years.
“I
am
calling
because
I
need
to
apologize
to
you,”
Janet
stated.
That’s
when
I
suddenly
realized
who
she
was.
“That
day
when
I
came
into
your
classroom
and
chewed
you
out
for
disciplining
my
daughter,
I
was
way
out
of
line.
I
know
now
that
you
were
doing
what
was
best
for
her.
You
were
right.”
Twenty
years
earlier,
it
was
only
my
second
year
of
teaching.
Janet’s
daughter,
Stephanie,
had
acted
out
toward
some
of
the
other
girls
in
the
classroom,
and
I
had
made
her
stay
in
from
breaks
between
classes.
I
was
kind
and
fair
when
I
punished
her.
The
truth
is
that
I
really
liked
Stephanie,
but
she
clearly
didn’t
like
being
disciplined.
She
told
her
mother,
and
Janet
felt
the
need
to
defend
her
child.
After
school,
she
flew
into
my
classroom
and
accused
me
of
everything
from
being
unfair
to
playing
favorites
to
not
caring
about
my
students.
She
was
yelling
so
loudly
that
every
teacher
in
the
building
heard
her
accusations,
including
my
principal.
Her
words
shocked
me
because
none
of
her
criticisms
was
true.
I
managed
to
keep
from
crying
while
she
stood
in
front
of
me,
but
as
soon
as
she
left
the
room,
I
broke
down.
I
cried
all
evening
on
and
off
through
that
sleepless
night.
I
had
once
felt
such
joy
teaching
my
kids,
but
now
I
felt
like
I
was
under
a
microscope
in
my
classroom.
For
the
next
few
weeks,
her
words
caused
me
to
second-guess
everything
I
did
with
my
students.
I
doubted
my
ability
and
even
my
own
heart.
Despite
how
her
mother
had
treated
me,
I
knew
I
would
discipline
Stephanie
again
if
she
acted
out.
It
was
the
right
thing
to
do.
注意:
1.
续写词数应为150左右;
2.
请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
And
now,
two
decades
later,
the
angry
mother
was
apologizing
to
me.

“Can
you
find
it
in

to

Janet

【答案】And
now,
two
decades
later,
the
angry
mother
was
a
pologizing
to
me.
The
hurtful
thing
had
become
ancient
history
to
me,
though
her
accusations
affected
me
too
deeply
for
much
too
long.
I’ve
now
learned
to
process
criticisms
much
more
quickly,
accepting
what’s
true,
dismissing
what’s
not,
and
moving
on
with
my
mission
in
life.
So,
in
essence,
her
apology
wasn’t
necessary
for
my
wellbeing
because
I
had
done
the
work
of
restoration
on
my
own.
I
was
grateful
for
that.
On
the
other
hand,
how
much
courage
this
lady
had
to
make
this
call!
It
moved
me.
“Can
you
find
it
in
your
heart
to
forgive
me?”
Janet
asked
finally.
I
responded
that
she
was
a
hero
to
me.
After
all
these
years,
she
could
have
just
forgotten
about
that.
But
she
went
to
such
effort
to
make
things
right.
I
was
both
blessed
and
impressed.
We
spent
the
rest
of
our
short
conversation
about
Stephanie
before
we
hung
up.
As
I
reflect
on
that
evening,
I
am
still
in
awe
at
Janet’s
growth,
courage,
and
determination
to
apologize
for
the
hurt
she
caused
so
many
years
ago.
Her
apology
truly
was
an
unexpected
blessing.
【分析】
本篇书面表达是读后续写。通过阅读文章可知,作者在一个凉爽的晚上接到一通电话,让作者回忆起20年前,作者作为老师教训学生,遭到学生家长训斥的一件事,让作者记忆深刻并且影响很深的一件事,这位家长20年后打来电话向作者道歉。
【详解】
续写第一段开头为:二十年后的今天,那个愤怒的母亲正在向我道歉。…后面应该写虽然这件事对作者影响深刻,但是二十年后这位母亲能鼓足勇气打电话道歉,让作者非常感动。
续写第二段开头为:“你能从心底里原谅我吗?”珍妮特终于问道。…后面应该写作者把自己对这位母亲的钦佩说出来,描述一些关于电话聊天内容,最后挂断电话后,作者陷入深深的思考中,并且再次赞扬这位母亲的勇敢。
文章主题部分选用的是一般过去时,续写部分也用一般过去时,并且描述现在事实的时候,也用了一般现在时,
【点睛】
通篇时态把握准确;所给关键词使用的恰当并且高级,显示出较高的英语能力;文章中还使用大量的复合句,为文章增加色彩和高级感,如I’ve
now
learned
to
process
criticisms
much
more
quickly,
accepting
what’s
true,
dismissing
what’s
not,
and
moving
on
with
my
mission
in
life.(我现在学会了更快地处理批评,接受真实的,无视不真实的,继续完成我的人生使命。)
这里的宾语从句的运用,显示高级的英语水平,精准掌握了从句使用的要领;续写部分构思巧妙,衔接自然,思路清晰自然,表达完整,为一篇优秀的作品。
