I
think
it's
very
important
to
relax
because
if
you
don't
you
can
get
too
stressed.
What
do
you
think?
M:
Yes.
I
think
so.
Once
I
even
got
ill
because
I
was
too
stressed
out
studying
for
exams!
But
what
do
you
do
to
relax?
W:
Well,
sometimes
I
go
to
my
room
and
lie
down
and
listen
to
my
favorite
music,
or
read
a
book.
What
about
you?
M:
If
I
want
to
relax
I
often
play
computer
games.
W:
I
don't
think
computer
games

relaxing
-they
can
be
so
exciting
and
then
it's
difficult
to
stop
playing
M:
It's
not
a
problem
for
me.
It's
good
fun.
I
sometimes
play
until
midnight.
W:
Really?
It's
too
bad
for
your
health.
You'd
better
not
stay
up
for
it
again.
Going
out
is
a
better
way.
I
sometimes
like
to
take
my
dog
for
a
long
walk
in
the
country
or
a
park.
That
makes
me
feel
healthy
and
relaxed
M:
I
agree
with
you.

13.
What
are
the
speakers
mainly
talking
about?
A.
Cartoon
characters.
B.
Climate
change.
C.
Pollution
control
agreements.
14
What
encouraged
the
man
to
create
Mr.
Carbon?
A.
His
dream
of
making
a
movie.
B.
His
concern
about
industrial
pollution.
C.
His
disappointment
at
some
governments’
inactivity.
15.
What
has
Mr.
Carbon
done?
A.
He
has
aroused
people’s
concern
about
climate
change.
B.
He
has
played
a
role
in
a
disaster
movie.
C.
He
has
made
a
box
office
success.
16.
What
kind
of
person
is
Mrs.
Green?
A.
She
is
climate-ignorant.
B.
She
is
an
energy
saver.
C.
She
is
wealthy.
【答案】13.
A
14.
C
15.
A
16.
B
【解析】
【原文】W:
Why
did
you
decide
to
publicize
climate
change
in
this
way?
M:
Well.
I
was
really
upset
about
some
countries'
failure
to
sign
up
pollution
control
agreements;
it
felt
like
the
science
wasn't
getting
understood
by
the
politicians,
so
I
decided
to
look
into
what
I
personally
could
do.
That
led
me
to
dream
up
a
cartoon
character
called
Mr.
Carbon
-we
all
know
somebody
like
him—he's
climate-ignorant
and
makes
no
effort
to
save
energy.
Of
course,
factories
are
the
obvious
bad
character
in
the
real
world,
but
I
couldn't
do
much
about
them.
W:
So
are
we
going
to
see
him
in
scenes
like
we
get
in
disaster
movies?
M:
That's
pretty
unlikely—it's
hard
to
make
a
box
office
success.
But
he
certainly
gives
cause
for
concern.
People
are
becoming
more
aware
of
the
climate
change.
W:
So
you
came
up
with
the
idea
of
another
cartoon
character.
Mrs.
Green.
M:
Yes.
Now
she
pays
attention
to
little
things,
uses
low-energy
light
bulbs,
doesn't
leave
the
TV
on
standby,
goes
in
for
recycling.
As
well
as
making
a
contribution
to
the
climate,
she'll
save
150,000
dollars
over
her
lifetime.

【原文】W:
My
name's
Jade.
I'm
fifteen
and
an
only
child
living
with
my
parents
in
Porchester,
Last
autumn
my
cousin
Bettina
came
to
live
in
our
house.
She's
nineteen,
and
very
pretty.
She's
staying
with
us
while
she's
a
student
at
the
university
in
Porchester.
At
first,
I
was
very
pleased
to
have
another
teenager
in
our
house,
because
most
of
my
friends
don't
live
near
me,
but
recently
my
feelings
have
changed.
I
have
lots
of
homework
because
I'm
studying
for
school
exams,
but
I
have
to
clean
my
room
and
help
with
the
washing-up.
Bettina
doesn't
have
exams
this
year
so
she
doesn't
have
to
work
so
hard.
She
has
more
money
than
me.
She
earns
a
bit
because
my
dad
helped
her
get
a
part-time
job
at
the
local
cinema.
She
doesn't
pay
the
full
price
for
tickets
to
see
films
there.
And
although
she
doesn't
pay
my
parents
to
live
in
our
house,
they
don't
make
her
help
in
the
house
like
I
have
to.
When
I
mentioned
this
to
my
parents
they
reminded
me
that
we
have
to
be
kind
to
Bettina
because
her
dad
hasn't
been
well
for
a
long
time.
I
agree
with
that
but
there
is
a
problem.
I
know
Bettina
tells
lies
to
my
parents.
Two
days
ago
she
asked
my
mum
to
lend
her
some
money.
She
said
she
needed
to
buy
some
books,
but
she
spent
it
all
on
CDs.
I
asked
my
parents
if
they
knew
what
she
had
done,
but
they
didn't
believe
me.
This
worries
me
a
lot.
I
don't
know
what
I
should
do
now.

at
the
center,
so
she
had
to
go
through
a
process
that
sounds
threatening:
watching
a
video
and
answering
questions
on
it
(the
answers
are
always
"I
am
responsible
for
my
own
safety
in
the
center"
and
Holds

spin").
In
an
older
person-me,
for
instance-any
activity
that
starts
with
a
reflection
on
your
own
death
is
a
little
low-energy,
whereas
she
seemed
quite
excited
by
it.
We
both
laughed
at
each
other's
clothing:
she
accused
me
of
having,
a
pink
T-shirt
which
seemed
too
lovely
for
me,
while
she
was
dressed
to
be
a
labourer.
The
moral
is
that
you
can
basically
wear
anything
while
you
climb.
It's
not
like
running,
where
the
ill-dressed
are
chased
from
the
area
by
a
thousand
eyes.

【24题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段the
millennial
is
younger,
fitter,
braver
and
more
energetic
but
I
am
good
at
getting
discouraged.这里的描写形成明显的反差,故选C项。
【25题详解】
词义猜测题。根据第二段regular
muscles
相对于选项最正确的就是攀登需要经常锻炼,regular对应选项中的
practice
regularly,故选B项。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段the
answers
are
always
“I
am
responsible
for
my
own
safety
in
the
center”
and
Holds
may
spin.
可知女孩认为要对自己的安全负责,她这样说是为了让攀登者意识到攀登可能是危险的。等同dangerous,故选A项。
【27题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段We
both
laughed
at
each
other's
clothing:
she
accused
me
of
having,
a
pink
T-shirt
which
seemed
too
lovely
for
me,
while
she
was
dressed
to
be

C
In
the
animal
kingdom,
weakness
can
bring
about
aggression
in
other
animals.
This
sometimes
happens
with
humans
also.
But
I
have
found
that
my
weakness
brings
out
the
kindness
in
people.
I
see
it
every
day
when
people
hold
doors
for
me,
pour
cream
into
my
coffee,
or
help
me
to
put
on
my
coat.
And
I
have
discovered
that
it
makes
them
happy.
From
my
wheelchair
experience,
I
see
the
best
in
people,
but
sometimes
I
feel
sad
because
those
who
appear
independent
miss
the
kindness
I
see
daily.
They
don’t
get
to
see
this
soft
side
of
others.
Often,
we
try
every
way
possible
to
avoid
showing
our
weakness,
which
includes
a
lot
of
pretending.
But
only
when
we
stop
pretending
we're
brave
or
strong
do
we
allow
people
to
show
the
kindness
that’s
in
them.
Last
month,
when
I
was
driving
home
on
a
busy
highway,
I
began
to
feel
unwell
and
drove
more
slowly
than
usual.
People
behind
me
began
to
get
impatient
and
angry,
with
some
speeding
up
alongside
me,
horning
(按喇吼)or
even
shouting
at
me.
At
the
moment
I
decided
to
do
something
I
had
never
done
in
twenty-four
years
of
driving.
I
put
on
the
car
flashlights
and
drove
on
at
a
really
low
speed.
No
more
angry
shouts
and
no
more
horns!
When
I
put
on
my
flashlights,
I
was
saying
to
other
drivers,
“I
have
a
problem
here.
I
am
weak
and
doing
the
best
I
can.
And
everyone
understood.
Several
times,
I
saw
drivers
who
wanted
to
pass.
They
couldn’t
get
around
me
because
of
the
stream
of
passing
traffic.
But
instead
of
getting
impatient
and
angry,
they
waited,
knowing
the
driver
in
front
of
them
was
in
some
way
weak.
Sometimes
situations
call
for
us
to
act
strong
and
brave
even
when
we
don’t
feel
that
way.
But
those
are
few
and
far
between.
More
often,
it
would
be
better
if
we
don’t,
pretend
we
feel
strong
when
we
feel
weak
or
pretend
that
we
are
brave
when
we
are
scared.
28.
People
will
feel
happy,
according
to
the
author's
findings,
when
__________.
A.
they
offer
their
help
to
others
B.
they
receive
others’
help
C.
they
feel
others’
kindness
to
them
D.
they
show
their
weakness
to
other
people
29.
Why
does
the
author
feel
sad
sometimes?
A.
Because
he
has
a
soft
heart,
showing
sympathy
to
others.
B.
Because
he
is
disabled
and
relies
much
on
others.
C.
Because
some
people
pretend
to
be
kind,
but
in
fact
they
are
not.
D.
Because
some
people
fail
to
see
the
kindness
in
others.
30.
What
did
the
other
drivers
do
when
they
saw
the
flashlights?
A.
They
sped
up
to
pass
because
they
didn’t
want
to
wait.
B.
They
stopped
their
cars
to
offer
help.
C.
丁hey
put
on
their

D.
They
waited
with
patience.

C
【解析】
【分析】
这是一篇记叙文。本文作者以自己的亲身经历告诉大家要勇于承认自己的缺点,因为在人类社会中,暴露我们的弱小时往往会得到别人的帮助和爱心。
【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段后三行I
see
it
every
day
when
people
hold
doors
for
me,pour
cream
into
my
coffee,or
help
me
to
put
on
my
coat.
And
I
have
discovered
that
it
makes
them
happy.可知那些人在给别人提供帮助的时候,他们感觉很快乐。故A正确。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第2段第2句sometimes
I
feel
sad
because
those
who
appear
independent
miss
the
kindness
I
see
daily.正确选项中用some
people代替those
who
appear
independent,用近义表达fail
to
see替换miss。可知D正确。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第四段No
more
angry
shouts
and
no
more
horns!再没愤怒的吼叫和喇叭声,也就是说他们都在耐心等待,可知D正确。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段More
often,it
would
be
better
if
we
don't
pretend
we
feel
strong
when
we
feel
weak
or
pretend
that
we're
brave
when
we're
scared.可知人们不要害怕承认自己的缺点,故C正确。
【点睛】做阅读时要注意:
1.找到关键词。像标题选择题,是主旨大意题,关键是找出主题句。在第一段的中but,however等表示转折的词后通常就是主题句,本文的主题句是but
I
have
found
that
my
weakness
brings
out
the
kindness
in
people,由此可提炼出关键的两个词:Weakness和Kindness。
2.通过同义或近义的意思。比如,第2题细节理解题。由第二段第1句but后的内容可知,正确选项中用some
people代替those
who
appear
independent,用近义表达fail
to
see代替miss。(近义替换)。比如,第3题推理判断题。根据文章第四段No
more
angry
shouts
and
no
more
horns!再没愤怒的吼叫和喇叭声,也就是说他们都在耐心等待,同义句。

喜欢向住在华盛顿特区和首都以外地区的人们展示在屋顶上可以种植什么以及如何种植食物。她认为“这是食品的未来。你在这里种植,在商业厨房里准备,通过农贸市场分发。食品卡车,然后回收利用。”
由此可推断出她对于屋顶花园的未来很自信。分析选项可知A项符合题意,故选A。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。第一段说美国由于雨水过多,为了避免浪费,美国的几个城市正在启动屋顶花园等项目。接着下文进行了详细介绍了在大学校舍的顶部建造花园,种植多种植物吸收雨水,利用城市上空的一种资源,成为了城市农业的一部分,有人认为这是未来的食物。由此可知,本文主要叙述了绿色屋顶城市农业的未来。综观全文可知,文中green
roofs(绿色屋顶)贯穿全文,第一段最后一句green
roofs(绿色屋顶)是建在城市的农业(Urban
Agriculture),分析选项可知B项符合题意,故选B。
【点睛】选择标题在英语阅读理解中属于主旨大意题,是一种深层理解题。要求考生在通读全文的基础上,认真分析文章大意及作者的写作意图。通常情况下,标题要有根据性,针对性和醒目性的特点。所谓概括性,就是指标题应最大程度上覆盖全文,囊括文章的主要内容,体现文章的主题。针对性就是对标题外延的一种界定,标题要直接指向文章的主要特点。如第4小题属于选择最佳标题。第一段说美国由于雨水过多,为了避免浪费,美国的几个城市正在启动屋顶花园等项目。接着下文进行了详细介绍了在大学校舍的顶部建造花园,种植多种植物吸收雨水,利用城市上空的一种资源,成为了城市农业的一部分,有人认为这是未来的食物。由此可知,本文主要叙述了绿色屋顶城市农业的未来。综观全文可知,文中green
roofs(绿色屋顶)贯穿全文,第一段最后一句green
roofs(绿色屋顶)是建在城市的农业(Urban
Agriculture),分析选项可知B项符合题意,故选B。
确定最佳标题的方法。在阅读文章时,要注意文章中反复出现的或强调的信息,寻找与文章大多数内容相关的信息。找出覆盖全文的核心词汇,看选项内容是否切中文章的中心论题。也就是要看选项内容与作者的写作目的是否一致。如第4小题,文章反复出现的单词是green
roofs,这与选项B中的Green

Future
of
Urban
Agriculture相照应

Tonight
this

My

We
just
rely
on
electricity.
So
for
me
it
was
an
early
night,
___37___
That
night,
losing
our
electricity
felt
like
losing
a
basic
necessity,
as
basic
as
running
water.
But
really,
electricity
is
a
luxury
that
we’ve
grown
to
take
for

I
use
electricity
all
the
time,
even
when
it’s
not

___38___
And

this,
I
have
my

even
in
the

the

when
I

___39___It
contributes
to
global
warming.
It
is
harming
our

and
we

that,
but
if
we
continue
to
use
the
same
large
amount
of
energy,
we
will

it.
How
would
we
survive
in
a
world
without
electricity?
Our
daily
lives
go
around
it.
We
wouldn’t
be
able
to

___40___So,
shouldn’t
we
start
preparing
for
it
now?
Cutting
down
on
our
use
of
electricity
would
save
energy
resources
so
that
they
could
last
for
longer.
And
if
everyone
does
it,
we
can
make
a
big
difference.
A.
Yet
we
know
one
day
we
will
run
out

B.
Our
over-use
of

is
a

C.
This

D.
It

【36题详解】
上一句提到Last

out.(上一周我公寓停电了)。承接上文,C选项(这让我整晚都在黑暗中。)是上句的结果。该项中的in
complete
darkness对应上文中的went
out。故选C。
【37题详解】
上句提到So
for
me
it
was
an
early
night(所以对我来说,这是一个早睡的夜晚);再根据下句提到(那天晚上,停电就像失去了基本的必需品,就像自来水一样。),F项(我不得不想,我们是不是太依赖电力了?)承接上下文。故选F。
【38题详解】
根据下句提到as
I’m
writing
this,
I
have
my
lights
on,
even
in
the
middle
of
the
day
when
I
don’t
really
need
them.(当我写这篇文章的时候,我的灯还亮着,即使是在我不需要它们的时候。),G项(即使我不看电视,我也会打开电视。)与下句都是并列的讲自己如何浪费电。该选项中的turn
on
the
TV与下文中have
my
lights
on吻合。故G选项正确。
【39题详解】
根据下文提到It
contributes
to
global
warming.
It
is
harming
our
environment
and
we
need
to
do
what
we
can
to
stop
it.(它导致了全球变暖。它正在损害我们的环境,我们需要尽我们所能阻止它。),B项(我们过度使用电力是一个大问题。)是下句的原因。该项中的Our
over-use
of
electricity就是下文中it所指代的。故选B。
【40题详解】
根据上文提到How
would
we
survive
in
a
world
without
electricity?
Our
daily
lives
go
around
it.
We
wouldn’t
be
able
to
function.(在没有电的世界里,我们如何生存?我们的日常生活围绕着它。没有它我们就不能正常工作了。)再根据下文So,
shouldn’t
we
start
preparing
for
it
now?
Cutting
down
on
our
use
of
electricity
would
save
energy
resources
so
that
they
could
last
for
longer.(所以我们现在就不能开始准备吗?减少我们的电力使用将节省能源,这样它们就能持续使用更长的时间),故A项Yet
we
know
one
day
we
will
run
out
of
it(但我们知道总有一天我们会耗尽它。)承上启下,该项中的Yet与上文表示转折;run
out
of
it与下文的Cutting
down构成一种因果关系。故A选项正确。

【解析】
【分析】
本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述作者上周六参加学校举办的英语演讲比赛,由于紧张而失败了,并对自己的失败进行总结经验和教训。
【详解】1.考查动词和介词。句意:上周六,我参加了学校举办的英语演讲比赛。分析句子可知,动词participated为不及物动词,后面接宾语,需要借助介词in,意为“参加”,故在participated后加in。
2.考查过去分词。句意:同上。分析句子可知,holding修饰名词the
English
Speech
Contest,在句中作定语,和名词之间是被动关系,应用过去分词,故将holding改为held。
3.考查代词。句意:然而,我没有像我预期的那样得到一个令人满意的结果。分析句子可知主句的主语是我,根据上下文语境,从句的主语也应该是我,故将he改为
I。
4.考查时态。句意:当我站在舞台上的时候,我感到我的双腿在颤抖。分析句子可知,根据时间状语Last
Saturday,可知本句应为一般过去时,故将stand改为
stood。
5.考查so和such的区别。句意:我太紧张了,以致于忘记了提前准备好的一切!本句中的nervous为形容词,应该用so修饰,修饰名词一般用such,so/such…that…,意为“如此…以致于…”,故将such改为so。
6.考查固定短语。句意:现在,回顾这段经历,我从这次失败中学到了一些东西。短语look
back
on,意为“回顾”,根据句意,故将to改为on。
7.考查介词和副词。句意:此外,我没有认真对待练习。分析可知,beside为介词,意为“在…旁边”;besides为介词,意为“除…之外(还)”,为副词,意为“此外”,根据句意和句子结构,可知本句应为副词besides,故将Beside改为Besides。
8.考查副词。句意:同上。分析句子可知,serious修饰动词take作状语,应用副词形式,故将serious改为seriously。
9.考查连词。句意:虽然这是我生活中的一次失败,但我仍然认为这是一次难忘的经历。
分析可知,although和but不能同时存在一个句子中,故去掉but。
10.考查冠词。句意:同上。分析可知,unforgettable以元音音素开头,前面应用an,故将a改成an。

B
I
went
climbing
with
a
millennial(千禧一代).She
is
younger,
fitter,
braver
and
more
energetic.
I
am
good
at
getting
discouraged,
having
a
rest
and
giving
advice
from
the
sidelines.
She
will
cling(附着于)on
to
a
wall
like
a
small
monkey
trying
to
escape
certain
death,
while
I
will
get
near
the
top,
realize
how
high
that
is
and
lose
my
nerve.
Together
we
could
make
an
impressive(感人的;令人钦佩的)
team,
me
at
the
bottom
of
the
wall,
going,
"That's
great,
try
using
your
feet
one
by
one.
Oh...What
did
you
do
that
for?"
And
her
going,
"Shall
we
try
that
again
so
we've
actually
done
it?
Do
you
think
we
should
have
warmed
up
first?"
Climbing
muscles,
being
the
same
as
regular
muscles,
are
use-it-or-lose-it.
I
climbed
more
often
before
I
did
the
crazy
running
activity
and
used
to
think
of
the
green
runs
at
my
local
center
as
being
for
children,
or
for
a
warm-up.
Now
I
find
them
extremely
hard,
and
the
purple
is
my
top-of-the-tree,
when
in
fact
they
are
both
for
beginners,
really.
I
suspect
the
millennial
of
avoiding
the
blue-with-red-spots
just
so
as
to
not
show
me
up.
It
wasn't
her
first
time
climbing,
but
she
wasn't
registered
at
the
center,
so
she
had
to
go
through
a
process
that
sounds
threatening:
watching
a
video
and
answering
questions
on
it
(the
answers
are
always
"I
am
responsible
for
my
own
safety
in
the
center"
and
Holds
may
spin").
In
an
older
person-me,
for
instance-any
activity
that
starts
with
a
reflection
on
your
own
death
is
a
little
low-energy,
whereas
she
seemed
quite
excited
by
it.
We
both
laughed
at
each
other's
clothing:
she
accused
me
of
having,
a
pink
T-shirt
which
seemed
too
lovely
for
me,
while
she
was
dressed
to
be
a
labourer.
The
moral
is
that
you
can
basically
wear
anything
while
you
climb.
It's
not
like
running,
where
the
ill-dressed
are
chased
from
the
area
by
a
thousand
eyes.
24.
We
learn
from
Paragraph
1
that
the
author

the
millennial
.
A.
know
each
other

well
B.
try
to
learn
how
to
escape
death
C.
form
a

contrast
D.

others
25.
By
“climbing
muscles,
being
the
same

are
use-it-or-lose-it”
the
author
means______.
A.
climbing
does
good
to
muscles
B.
climbing
needs
practicing
regularly
C.
climbing
muscles
are
as
useful
as
other
muscles
D.
climbing

even

not
used
26.
The
question
the
millennial
was
required
to
answer
were
admitted
to

A.
let
the
climbers
realize
the
climbing
might
be
dangerous
B.
give
the
climbers
another
approach
to
think
of
death
C.
warn
the
climbers
against
loss
of
energy
in
the
process
D.
remind
the
climbers
of
the
importance
of
registration
27.
According
to
the
passage,
which
of
the
following
statements
is
true?
A.
Climbers
need
to
wear
special
clothes.
B.
Ill-dressed
runners
stand
out
improperly.
C.
Climbers
need
to
get
a
certificate
before
climbing.
D.
The
author
and
millennial
like
making
fun
of
others.
C
In
the
animal
kingdom,
weakness
can
bring
about
aggression
in
other
animals.
This
sometimes
happens
with
humans
also.
But
I
have
found
that
my
weakness
brings
out
the
kindness
in
people.
I
see
it
every
day
when
people
hold
doors
for
me,
pour
cream
into
my
coffee,
or
help
me
to
put
on
my
coat.
And
I
have
discovered
that
it
makes
them
happy.
From
my
wheelchair
experience,
I
see
the
best
in
people,
but
sometimes
I
feel
sad
because
those
who
appear
independent
miss
the
kindness
I
see
daily.
They
don’t
get
to
see
this
soft
side
of
others.
Often,
we
try
every
way
possible
to
avoid
showing
our
weakness,
which
includes
a
lot
of
pretending.
But
only
when
we
stop
pretending
we're
brave
or
strong
do
we
allow
people
to
show
the
kindness
that’s
in
them.
Last
month,
when
I
was
driving
home
on
a
busy
highway,
I
began
to
feel
unwell
and
drove
more
slowly
than
usual.
People
behind
me
began
to
get
impatient
and
angry,
with
some
speeding
up
alongside
me,
horning
(按喇吼)or
even
shouting
at
me.
At
the
moment
I
decided
to
do
something
I
had
never
done
in
twenty-four
years
of
driving.
I
put
on
the
car
flashlights
and
drove
on
at
a
really
low
speed.
No
more
angry
shouts
and
no
more
horns!
When
I
put
on
my
flashlights,
I
was
saying
to
other
drivers,
“I
have
a
problem
here.
I
am
weak
and
doing
the
best
I
can.
And
everyone
understood.
Several
times,
I
saw
drivers
who
wanted
to
pass.
They
couldn’t
get
around
me
because
of
the
stream
of
passing
traffic.
But
instead
of
getting
impatient
and
angry,
they
waited,
knowing
the
driver
in
front
of
them
was
in
some
way
weak.
Sometimes
situations
call
for
us
to
act
strong
and
brave
even
when
we
don’t
feel
that
way.
But
those
are
few
and
far
between.
More
often,
it
would
be
better
if
we
don’t,
pretend
we
feel
strong
when
we
feel
weak
or
pretend
that
we
are
brave
when
we
are
scared.
28.
People
will
feel
happy,
according
to
the
author's
findings,
when
__________.
A.
they
offer
their
help
to
others
B.
they
receive
others’
help
C.
they
feel
others’
kindness
to
them
D.
they
show
their
weakness
to
other
people
29.
Why
does
the
author
feel
sad
sometimes?
A.
Because
he
has
a
soft
heart,
showing
sympathy
to
others.
B.
Because
he
is
disabled
and
relies
much
on
others.
C.
Because
some
people
pretend
to
be
kind,
but
in
fact
they
are
not.
D.
Because
some
people
fail
to
see
the
kindness
in
others.
30.
What
did
the
other
drivers
do
when
they
saw
the
flashlights?
A.
They
sped
up
to
pass

Water
is
a
necessity
of
life.
Rain,
especially,
helps
plants
grow
and
stay
green.
But
too
much
rain,
especially
in
cities,
can
lead
to
flooding.
That
can
cause
waste
water
systems
to
overflow
and
send
pollutants
into
rivers
and
other
waterways.
To
fight
the
problem,
several
cities
in
the
United
States
are
starting
programs
like
rooftop
gardens.
A
team
at
the
University
of
the
District
of
Columbia
in
the
nation's
capital
has
created
a
garden
on
the
top
of
one
school
building.
The
garden
holds
many
kinds
of
plants
to
help
absorb
rainwater
and
grow
food
at
the
same
time.
Architect
David
Bell
has
designed
five
"green
roofs"
for
the
university.
He
says
he
is
excited
about
the
project
because
"it
meant
doing
something
more
than
just
dealing
with
storm
water
management.
It
took
advantage
of
a
resource
above
the
city
and
these
flat
roofs
that
aren't
doing
anything
really
became
something
that
was
about
urban
agriculture.
"
Rainwater
is
collected
in
large
containers
and
sent
through
a
system
that
waters
the
rooftop
garden.
The
roof
is
filled
with
green
life
that
appeals
to
insects.
In
cities,
“you
don't
have
that
many
spaces
to
choose
from
and
so
rooftops
are
just
(unused)
space,"
says
Caitlin
Arlotta.
She
is
a
student
in
the
school's
Urban
Agriculture
program.
The
project
is
part
of
a
research
program
to
see
which
plants
do
well
on
rooftops.
The
researchers
are
looking
at
plants
including
strawberries,
tomatoes
and
sweet
potatoes.
The
university
also
has
other
green
spaces.
"We
also
have
our
own
farm
experiments,"
Arlotta
said.
“
Within
each
of
those
growing
systems,
we
want
to
be
able
to
tell
people
which
sorts
of
these
crops
grow
the
best.
"
Sandy
Farber
Bandier
helps
run
UDC's
Master
Gardener
program.
It
seeks
to
improve
cities
and
make
them
beautiful
by
training
people
to
become
Master
Gardeners.
She
says
she's
been
surprised
by
the
garden's
output.
”My
biggest
surprise
was
that
we
produced
4,
250
pounds
of
produce
the
first
year
and
was
able
to
spread
that
to
people
in
need.
"
She
also
likes
being
able
to
show
people
who
live
in
D.
C.
and
others
beyond
the
nation's
capital
what
and
how
food
can
be
grown
on
a
rooftop.
“This
is
the
future
for
food.
You
grow
it
here,
you
prepare
it
in
a
commercial
kitchen,
you
distribute
through
farmers
markets,food
trucks,
and
then
you
recycle.
"

Last
week
the
electricity
in
my
flat
went
out.___36___
My
typical
evening
is
spent
watching
TV
and
scrolling
(滚动)
through
social
media.
Tonight
this
wasn’t
possible.
My
roommate
and
I
weren’t
prepared
with
candles
and
matches.
We
just
rely
on
electricity.
So
for
me
it
was
an
early
night,
___37___
That
night,
losing
our
electricity
felt
like
losing
a
basic
necessity,
as
basic
as
running
water.
But
really,
electricity
is
a
luxury
that
we’ve
grown
to
take
for
granted.
I
use
electricity
all
the
time,
even
when
it’s
not
really
necessary.
___38___
And
as
I’m
writing
this,
I
have
my
lights
on,
even
in
the
middle
of
the
day
when
I
don’t
really
need
them.
___39___It
contributes
to
global
warming.
It
is
harming
our
environment
and
we
need
to
do
what
we
can
to
stop
it.
Not
only
that,
but
if
we
continue
to
use
the
same
large
amount
of
energy,
we
will
soon
run
out
of
it.
How
would
we
survive
in
a
world
without
electricity?
Our
daily
lives
go
around
it.
We
wouldn’t
be
able
to
function.
___40___So,
shouldn’t
we
start
preparing
for
it
now?
Cutting
down
on
our
use
of
electricity
would
save
energy
resources
so
that
they
could
last
for
longer.
And
if
everyone
does
it,
we
can
make
a
big
difference.
A.
Yet
we
know
one
day
we
will
run
out
of
it.
B.
Our
over-use
of
electricity
is
a
big
problem.
C.
This
left
me
in
complete
darkness
the
whole
night.
D.
It
is
a
real
problem
to
cut
down
on
the
use
of
electricity.
E.
I
know
for
sure
I
could
cut
down
on
my
use
of
electricity.
F.
I
couldn’t
help
but
think,
do
we
rely
too
much
on
electricity?
G.
I
turn
on
the
TV
in
the
background
even
when
Tm
not
watching
it.
