When
her
five
daughters
were
young,
Helene
An
always
told
them
that
there
was
strength
in
unity
(团结).
To
show
this,
she
held
up
one
chopstick,
representing
oneperson.
Then
she
easily
broke
it
into
two
pieces.
Next,
she
tied
several
chopsticks
together,
representing
a
family.
She
showed
the
girls
it
was
hard
to
break
the
tied
chopsticks.
This
lesson
about
family
unity
stayed
with
the
daughters
as
they
grew
up.
Helene
An
and
her
family
own
a
large
restaurant
business
in
California.
However,
when
Helene
and
her
husband
Danny
left
their
home
in
Vietnam
in
1975,
they
didn't
have
much
money.
They
moved
their
family
to
San
Francisco.
There
they
joined
Danny's
mother,
Diana,
who
owned
a
small
Italian
sandwich
shop.
Soon
afterwards,
Helene
and
Diana
changed
the
sandwich
shop
into
a
small
Vietnamese
restaurant.
The
five
daughters
helped
in
the
restaurant
when
they
were
young.
However,
Helene
did
not
want
her
daughters
to
always
work
in
the
family
business
because
she
thought
it
was
too
hard.
Eventually
the
girls
all
graduated
from
college
and
went
away
to
work
for
themselves,
but
one
by
one,
the
daughters
returned
to
work
in
the
family
business.
They
opened
new
restaurants
in
San
Francisco
and
Los
Angeles.
Even
though
family
members
sometimes
disagreed
with
each
other,
they
worked
together
to
make
the
business
successful.
Daughter
Elisabeth
explains,
"Our
mother
taught
us
that
to
succeed
we
must
have
unity,
and
to
have
unity
we
must
have
peace.
Without
the
strength
of
the
family,
there
is
no
business."
Their
expanding
business
became
a
large
corporation
in
1996,
with
three
generations
of
Ans
working
together.
Now
the
Ans'
corporation
makes
more
than
$20
million
each
year.
Although
they
began
with
a
small
restaurant,
they
had
big
dreams,
and
they
worked
together.
Now
they
are
a
big
success.

A
new
study
shows
students
who
write
notes
by
hand
during
lectures
perform
better
on
exams
than
those
who
use
laptops(笔记本电脑).
Students
are
increasingly
using
laptops
for
note?taking
because
of
speed
and
legibility(清晰度).But
the
research
has
found
laptop
users
are
less
able
to
remember
and
apply
the
concepts
they
have
been
taught.
Researchers
performed
experiments
that
aimed
to
find
out
whether
using
a
laptop
increased
the
tendency
to
make
notes
“mindlessly”
by
taking
down
word
for
word
what
the
professors
said.
In
the
first
experiment,students
were
given
either
a
laptop
or
pen
and
paper.
They
listened
to
the
same
lectures
and
were
told
to
use
their
usual
note?taking
skills.
Thirty
minutes
after
the
talk,they
were
examined
on
their
ability
to
remember
facts
and
on
how
well
they
understood
concepts.
The
researchers
found
that
laptop
users
took
twice
as
many
notes
as
those
who
wrote
by
hand.
However,the
typists
performed
worse
at
remembering
and
applying
the
concepts.
Both
groups
scored
similarly
when
it
came
to
memorizing
facts.
The
researchers'
report
said,“While
more
notes
are
beneficial,if
the
notes
are
taken
mindlessly,as
is
more
likely
the
case
on
a
laptop,the
benefit
disappears.”
In
another
experiment
aimed
at
testing
long?term
memory,students
took
notes
as
before
but
were
tested
a
week
after
the
lecture.
This
time,the
students
who
wrote
notes
by
hand
performed
significantly
better
on
the
exam.
These
two
experiments
suggest
that
handwritten
notes
are
not
only
better
for
immediate
learning
and
understanding,but
that
they
also
lead
to
superior
revision
in
the
future.
8.
More
and
more
students
favour
laptops
for
note?taking
because
they
can
________.
A.
write
more
notes
B.
digest
concepts
better
C.
get
higher
scores
D.
understand
lectures
better
9.
While
taking
notes,laptop
users
tend
to
be
________.
A.
skilful
B.
mindless
C.
thoughtful
D.
tireless
10.
The
author
of
the
passage
aims
to
________.
A.
examine
the
importance
of
long?term
memory
B.
stress
the
benefit
of
taking
notes
by
hand
C.
explain
the
process
of
taking
notes
D.
promote
the
use
of
laptops
11.
The
passage
is
likely
to
appear
in
________.
A.
a
newspaper
advertisement
B.
a
computer

C.
a
science

D.
a

D
In
the
UK,
electric
and
other
low-emission(低排放)cars,
vans,
and
buses
could
be
given
special
green
plates
to
encourage
more
people
to
buy
such
cars,
and
promote
awareness
for
“clean”
cars.
Strange
as
it
may
seem,
there
is
some
reason
to
believe
that
something
as
small
as
this
could
make
a
big
difference.
Already,
similar
ideas
have
been
put
into
effect
in
Norway,
Canada,
Latvia,
and
China,
and
the
results
have
been
encouraging.
Elisabeth
Costa,
director
of
the
Behavioural
Insights
Team,
explains,
“Simple
changes
based
on
behavioral
science
can
have
a
big
impact.
Green
plates
would
be
more
noticeable
to
road
users,
and
this
increased
attraction
can
help
normalise
the
idea
of
clean
vehicles,
highlighting(使突出)the
changing
social
norms(规范)around
vehicle
ownership.”
Actually,
hybrids
and
electric
cars
accounted
for
5.5%
of
the
cars
sold
in
the
UK
in
the
first
half
of
the
year,
compared
to
4.2%
for
the
same
period
in
2017.
However,
colored
plates
can
only
go
so
far.
At
the
end
of
the
day,
you
need
strong,
concrete(具体的)measures
if
you
want
to
support
a
market
like
electric
cars.
The
UK
already
has
generous
allowances
for
electric
cars,
but
a
study
for
the
RAC
Foundation
found
that
the
lack
of
reliable,
easy-to-use
charging
stations
is
the
main
roadblock
to
people
purchasing
more
electric
cars.
This
was
repeated
by
separate
research
from
AA,
the
UK’s
largest
motorist
association,
which
found
that
although
1
in
2
young
drivers
want
electric
cars,
8
out
of
10
drivers
feel
that
the
lack
of
adequate
electrical
chargers
is
the
main
reason
not
to
buy
an
electric
car.
Yet
this
all
shows
that
more
and
more
people
are
nearing
a
tipping
point
where
they
are
willing
to
buy
electric
cars.
And
a
small
PR
stunt(噱头),
the
“coolness
factor”
of
the
colored
plates
could
end
up
making
a
difference.
Similarly,
having
red
plates
for
the
more
polluting
cars
might
also
play
a
role.
A
spokesman
for
the
Environmental
Transport
Association
said,
“While
green
number
plates
will
be
positive
PR
for
low-emission
car
makers
and
early
adopters
of
the
technology
alike,
to
be
truly
effective
any
such
measures
will
need
to
at
the
same
time
shame
the
drivers
of
the
most
polluting
vehicles.”
12.
Why
does
the
UK
give
green
license
plates
to
cars?
A.
To
promote
car
sales.
B.
To
beautify
the
environment
in
the
UK.
C.
To
separate
“clean”
cars
from
polluting
cars.
D.
To
inspire
people
to
buy
low-emission
vehicles.
13.
What
does
the
underlined
sentence
“colored
plates
can
only
go
so
far”
mean?
A.
The
results
of
giving
colored
plates
are
discouraging.
B.
The
measures
of
giving
colored
plates
will
be
at
an
end.
C.
Giving
colored
plates
has
a
limited
impact
on
promoting
“clean”
cars
D.
Giving
colored
plates
will
be
replaced
by
strong,
concrete
measures.
14.
Why
do
most
drivers
choose
not
to
buy
an
electric
car?
A.
Allowances
for
electric
cars
are
not
attractive.
B.
They
aren’t
fond
of
the
green
color.
C.
Charging
stations
are
not
readily
available.
D.
Electric
cars
are
unaffordable
to
them.
15.
What
did
the
spokesman
for
the
Environmental
Transport
Association
focus
on?
A.
Banning
people
from
buying
polluting
cars.
B.
Continuing
the
use

C.
Replacing
green

【解析】
这是一篇记叙文。Helene和丈夫离开越南时,他们并不富有。Helene给她的女儿讲述了一个关于团结的故事。几双筷子被绑在一起将会很难被折断,家庭亦是如此。文章通过讲述一个家族企业的发展历程来强调家庭团结的重要性。
【4题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“she
tied
several
chopsticks
together,
representing
a
family.
This
lesson
about
family
unity...”可知,Helene把筷子绑在一起并试着折断它们,是为了显示团结的力量。故选A项。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据“when
Helene
and
her
husband
Danny
left
their
home
in
Vietnam
in
1975,
they
didn't
have
much
money.”可知,当离开越南时,Helene夫妇并没有太多的钱。故选B项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段Even
though
family
members
sometimes
disagreed
with
each
other,
they
worked
together
to
make
the
business
successful.
Daughter
Elisabeth
explains,
"Our

have
unity,
and
to
have
unity
we
must
have
peace.
Without
the
strength

the
family,
there

no
business."可知,尽管有时家庭成员之间意见不一致,但他们一起努力使生意成功。女儿伊丽莎白解释说:“我们的母亲教导我们。要成功,我们必须团结;要团结,我们必须和平相处。没有家庭的力量,就没有生意的成功。所以通过关键词“disagreed
with,make
the
business
successful”以及伊丽莎白所说的话可以判断出,这五个女儿受到妈妈教诲的影响,团结一心,把生意越做越大。故选C项。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Helene
An
always
told
them
that
there
was
strength
in
unity
(团结).”和第三段“to
succeed
we
must
have
unity”与第四段“and
they
worked
together.
Now
they
are
a
big
success.”可知,文章主要讲的是家庭团结对取得成功的重要性。所以短文最佳标题为“家庭团结成就成功”。故选D项。

Students

the

Researchers
performed
experiments
that
aimed
to

out
whether
using

the

to
make
notes
“mindlessly”
by
taking
down
word

what
the
professors
said.
In
the
first
experiment,students
were
given
either
a
laptop
or
pen

They
listened
to
the
same

and
were

Thirty
minutes
after
the
talk,they
were
examined
on
their
ability
to
remember
facts
and
on
how
well
they
understood
concepts.
The
researchers
found
that
laptop
users
took
twice
as
many

as
those
who
wrote
by

However,the
typists
performed
worse
at
remembering
and

Both
groups
scored
similarly
when
it
came
to
memorizing
facts.
The
researchers'
report
said,“While

benefit
disappears.”
In
another

aimed
at
testing
long?term

a
week
after
the
lecture.
This
time,the
students
who
wrote
notes

These

suggest
that
handwritten

and
understanding,but
that
they
also
lead
to
superior
revision
in
the

purchasing
more

How
to

a
Relationship
Healthy
and
Strong
Are
you
new
to
experiencing
relationships?
Well,let
me
give
you
advice
on
how
to
have
a
healthy
relationship
with
your
partners.
___16___.
Don't
hide
things
from
them,and
don't
lie.
Don't
be
afraid
to
say
things
that
aren't
very
flattering
about
yourself.
Getting
them
to
trust
you
is
the
most
important
element
in
any
relationship.
If
there's
no
trust,there's
nothing
there.
So
please
be
honest
and
they
will
learn
to
open
up
to
you.
Make
sure
you
give
them
respect.
Now,respect
isn't
just
simply
treating
them
nicely.
There
is
a
lot
more
to
it.
You
have
to
learn
to
adjust
to
their
liking.
___17___.
Don't
just
think
about
yourself,but
think
about
what
your
partners
need
out
of
it
as
well.
___18___.
Always
be
willing
to
help
them
and
give
them
honesty
and
positive
at
the
time.
Make
them
feel
you
are
someone
they
can

on
and
build
a

with.
This
is
an
important
step
in

【分析】
这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了作者的家庭以及家里的日常活动等情况。
【详解】1.考查非谓语动词。句意:我生活在一个典型的中国家庭,四代人住在同一个屋檐下。分析句子结构可知第一个live在句中应用非谓语动词形式,与逻辑主语I构成主动关系,故应用现在分词作状语。故lived改为living。
2.考查冠词。句意:我生活在一个典型的中国家庭,四代人住在同一个屋檐下。结合句意表示“同一,同样的”可知短语为the
same。故
same前面加the。
3.考查名词。句意:大家在这里都玩得很开心。fun为不可数名词,没有复数形式。故funs改为fun。
4.考查连词。句意:每天晚上,我们都会一起吃饭,围坐在餐桌边有说有笑,这样一天的所有烦恼就会一扫而空。此处talking和laughing
around
the
dinner
table为并列关系,应用连词and。故or改为and。
5.考查定语从句。句意:周末,爸爸会带爷爷去乡下钓鱼,爷爷非常喜欢户外活动。此处为非限制性定语从句修饰先行词Grandpa,先行词在从句中作主语,指人,应用关系代词who引导,that不能引导非限制性定语从句。故
that
改为who。
6.考查代词。句意:妈妈和奶奶会为我们做美味的食物。结合语境指“为我们做饭”应用人称代词宾格us。故ourselves改为us。
7.考查副词。句意:在我和谐的家庭中,我已经长大成为一个有爱心和责任感的人。修饰后文形容词harmonious应用副词so,构成so...that...句型,引导结果状语从句;such为形容词,修饰名词。故such改为so。
8.考查语态。句意:在我和谐的家庭中,我已经长大成为一个有爱心和责任感的人。主语I与grow
up为主动关系,应用现在完成时的主动语态。故been去掉。
9.考查副词。句意:我一定会把我所学的教给我未来的孩子们。修饰后文动词teach应用副词definitely,作状语。故
definite改为definitely。
10.考查介词。句意:我一定会把我所学的教给我未来的孩子们。结合句意表示“把……教给某人”可知短语为teach
sth.
to
sb.。故for改为to。
