One day a heavy storm hit a village. Nothing was destroyed, but a rock fell from a nearby mountain. The rock rolled down from the mountain and stopped in the middle of the main road in the village. It was very big and shaped more or less like a ball. The village decided to move it since it was blocking(阻塞)the street. Several of the strongest men in the village came to try to lift it out of the road. No matter how hard they tried though, they couldn't move it.
All of this time a young boy was watching the men trying to move the rock. “Excuse me,” he said, “but I think I could move the rock.”
“You ”they shouted. "What are you talking about All of us have just tried, and even together we can't move it a bit." They all laughed at the boy.
The next morning some villagers came into the street. To their great surprise, the rock was gone! More people ran out to see for themselves. It was true the rock wasn't in the road any more.
The little boy stood in the street, smiling. “I told you I could move it,” he said. “I did it last night.”Then he walked over to where the rock had been and uncovered some dirt with a shovel(铁锹).“You see,”he said, “I dug a deep hole next to the rock, and the rock rolled down into the hole of itself. I fell in love with England because it was quaint(古雅)—all those little houses, looking terribly old-fashioned but nice, like dolls' houses. I loved the countryside and the pubs, and I loved London. I’ve slightly changed my mind after seventeen years because I think it's an ugly town now.
Things have changed. For everybody, England meant gentlemen, fair play, and good manners. The fair play is going, unfortunately, and so are the gentlemanly attitudes and good manners—people shut doors heavily to your face and politeness is disappearing.
I regret that there are so few comfortable meeting places. You're forced to live indoors. In Paris I go out much more, to restaurants and nightclubs. To meet friends here it usually has to be in a pub, and it can be difficult to go there alone as a woman. The cafes are not terribly nice.
As a woman, I feel unsafe here. I spend a bomb(大量的钱)on taxis because I will not take public transport after 10 p. m. I used to use _it ,but now I’m afraid.
The idea of family seems to be more or less non-existent in England. My family is well united and that's typically French. In Middlesex I had a neighbor who is 82 now. His family only lived two miles away, but I took him to France for Christmas once because he was always alone.
60. The writer doesn't like London because she______.
A. is not used to the life there now
B. has lived there for seventeen years
C. prefers to live in an old-fashioned house
D. has to be polite to everyone she meets there
61. Where do people usually meet their friends in England ______.
A. In a cafe. B. In a restaurant.
C. In a nightclub D. In a pub.
62. The underlined part "it" (in Para. 4) refers to______.
A. a taxi B. the money
C. a bomb D. public transport
63. The writer took her neighbor to France for Christmas because he______.
A. felt lonely in England
B. had never been to France
C. was from a typical French family
D. didn't like the British idea of family
C
Do you know why I am always in support of learning a foreign language The reasons are as follows:
1. Improve your English
I know this might not make sense at first but hear me out. As a person who speaks only one
language, you have no basis for comparison(比较);all you know is English. In different languages the same idea is often expressed in different ways. You will find yourself speaking and writing more creative sentences. There is a reason why most great writers and poets are students of many languages.
2.______________
Travelling is one of the great joys of life and also one of the most wonderful experience. Why not get the most out of your experience If you don't know the native language of the country that you are visiting, you are completely excluded from the culture. The locals(当地人)don't speak to you. Knowing even a few phrases will make a huge difference. You will meet more people and find it much easier to get around.
3. Join the global community
The majority of the world does not speak English. The truth is that new thoughts and ideas are happening everywhere and they are not being immediately translated. The world is getting smaller and we are coming into contact(接触) with more non-English speakers all the time. Gain an advantage for yourself in business and personal relationships by being able to communicate with people in their language.
Now that you know three great reasons for learning a foreign language, do it right now.
64. According to the author,______.
A. it is necessary for writers and poets to learn many languages
B. knowing another language will make you able to write a novel
C. studying another language will help you make your native language better
D. if you only know one language, you have no ability to appreciate the language
65. The underlined word“excluded”in the third paragraph probably means______.
A. shut out B. joined in C. sent for D. put up
66. Which of the following can be used to fill in the blank in the passage
A. Help enrich your life
B. Help you to become rich
C. Help widen your knowledge
D. Increase your travel experiences
67. What is the best title for the passage
A. Three Great Reasons for Learning a Foreign Language
B. A Foreign Language Help You Gain Respect
C. Improve Your English by Comparison
D. Build Confidence Through Learning a Foreign Language
D
What do people do with their old, out-of-date but still useful computers Most people don’t know what to do with them. Many old computers are put away in homes. Many more are simply thrown out with the rubbish.
Finally, some companies are thinking of ways to bring down the number of old computers. Sony has agreed to help recycle old Sony products(产品), Dell, Hewlett-Packard and other companies now also take back some old computers.
In some countries, laws are being passed, puter companies will have to pay for collecting and recycling their used products. And 70% of computer waste must be recycled. The idea behind the laws is that computer companies themselves should pay the cost. That will encourage them to make computers that are easier and cheaper to repair and upgrade(升级).
Yet while many people are throwing away good computers, others cannot afford them at all. Hundreds of organizations(组织)are working to solve this problem. They collect and repair old computers. Some also teach others how to repair computers.
The computers then go to schools, charities(慈善团体)and people who need them. Giving a used computer to one of these organizations can turn one person’s rubbish into someone else’s useful things—and cut down on waste, too.
68. What do many people do with old computers
A. They repair them. B. They sell them.
C. They send them to others. D. They stop using them.
69. What do the organizations do to solve the problem of old computers
A. Help the computer companies to collect them.
B. Repair and send them to those who need them.
C. Help people to learn to use them.
D. Turn rubbish into useful things.
70. What is the main idea of this passage
A. Repairing old computers.
B. Encouraging to make cheap computers.
C. Recycling old computers.
D. Helping those who need computers.

书面表达(满分25分)
One possible version:
Everyone needs friends, so how to make true friends is very important to anybody.
To make friends, you must be friendly to others. A smile is like a magnet that draws people. Smile at others and you are always sure to get a smile in return. You should do your best to make a stranger feel at home, no matter where he happens to be. Think as you are in his position.
Try to remember others’ names, which will make them feel that they have made an impression on you.
If you don’t agree with others on certain matter, don’t argue but discuss with them. You should think more of others than of yourselves.
Finally, don’t believe those who leave their friends when they are in trouble because “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”

Fanny likes traveling by bus better than by airplane for four reasons. Firstly,it costs less. She can ride by bus from New York to Chicago for$20. Yet, the air fare between the two cities is$78. Secondly, traveling by bus gives her a closer look at the cities and countryside than she could get from a plane. For example, she enjoys driving through the big cities of Philadelphia,Pittsburgh, and Fort Wayne. Thirdly,Fanny finds that the passengers on the bus are often closer to her own age. So, they are easy to talk with on the shared travel adventure. In contrast, many airline passengers are businessmen who keep busy with their work while flying. Fourthly, riding a bus allows Fanny to explore any stop along the way. For instance, once she got off the bus at a small town in Indiana and spent the night with a girl friend. Then, the next day she took another bus to Chicago. For these reasons,Fanny usually prefers buses instead of planes unless she has to get somewhere in a hurry.
