Years ago, if a teenager had some problems in her life, she might go home and write in her diary. Now, a teenager with 36 problems might go onto the Internet and write about them in a blog. In many ways, a diary and a blog are very 37 . So, what makes blogging different from writing in 38 diary
The biggest difference is that blogging is much more 39 than a diary. Usually, a teenager treats her diary like a book full of 40 that she does not want to 41 .
It’s interesting that someone who writes in a blog 42 a diary will probably write nearly the same information.
I have a little sister, and sometimes I go online to read her 43 . She writes about things like waking up early for swimming practice and not studying enough for her chemistry test. 44
I was her age, I wrote about the same things, but 45 in my diary. Then, after I had finished writing, I would hide my diary in a secret place because I was 46 that my sister might read it!
The biggest 47 with blogging is that anyone can read what you write. If I was angry with a friend during high school and wrote something 48 about her in my diary, she would never know. 49 , if my sister ever wrote something bad about a friend, that friend 50 read her blog and get a “cry”.
There are also 51 of blogging, of course. If I was feeling sad one day and wrote in my diary, “Nobody cares about me,” 52 would know about it. However, if my sister wrote the same sentence in her blog, her best friends would 53 respond(回应)and tell her how much they 54 her. Blogs help people 55 in contact with their friends and to hear what the people around them are doing.

38. A. a personal B. an ordinary C. a common D. a traditional

40. A. thoughts B. puzzles C. mysteries D. secrets
41. A. tell B. share C. publish D. solve
42. A. instead of B. as well as C. in favor of D. in spite of
43. A. blog B. diary C. report D. web
44. A. Although B. Since C. When D. Because
45. A. only B. already C. still D. never
46. A. angry B. concerned C. glad D. worried
47. A. problem B. doubt C. trouble D. mistake
48. A. unpleasant B. wrong C. mean D. funny
49. A. Besides B. However C. Therefore D. Then
50. A. should B. will C. must D. might
51. A. reasons B. disadvantages C. shortcomings D. advantages
52. A. everyone B. no one C. anyone D. someone
53. A. happily B. especially C. quickly D. immediately
54. A. like B. miss C. need D. help

第三部分 阅读理解(共20小题:每小题2分,满分40分)
A
21世纪教育网 Editor,
Brockingham is run by people who are more interested in tourists than its residents. The problem is that the people running the government refuse to accept new ideas. By banning all fast-food restaurants and discount stores, they take away all the places kids can afford to shop.
These people forget that when they were young, they could go to the South Street Soda Fountain and get an ice-cream soda for 25 cents. Today you can’t find an ice-cream soda anywhere in Brockingham for less than $2! Where can kids go for a snack
There is not a single restaurant in Brockingham where a family of four can eat dinner for less than $100. Add a 15% tip and sales tax and you have spent nearly $125 to eat a meal you could prepare at home for about $12. Have you noticed that Brockingham families never dine in Brockingham
Fast-food restaurants are also a good place for school kids to get an after-school job. Fast-food restaurants are busiest during the early supper hours when students are able to work, whereas the fancy food restaurants cater to late-night diners. Working in one of these establishments requires working shifts that are too late for most students.
The City Council claims that local merchants, rather than national chains, should benefit from the tourist business. I agree that it is important to support local businesses, but I think the fast-food restaurants would encourage more people to shop in Brockingham.
Another thing that disturbs me is that we must travel 25 miles to the nearest discount store. If I need a tire for my bike, I have a choice of buying one at Surf and Peddle Sport Shop for $15 or driving to Parkersburg Discount Center where I can buy the some kind of tire for $9. Again, I think the ban on all food chains and discount houses is counterproductive for our city.
Wes Woodrow
9th-Grade Student at Brockingham High School
56. Why does Wes Woodrow write this letter to the editor
A. Because the government bans all fastfood restaurants and discount stores in Brockingham.
B. Because the writer can’t find an icecream soda anywhere in Brockingham for less than $2.
C. Because a family of four can’t find a restaurant in Brockingham to eat dinner for less than $100.
D. Because the writer has to travel 25 miles to the nearest discount store.
57. From the letter we can infer that .
A. the writer used to buy a lot of icecream soda
B. the students refuse to work in fancy food restaurants
C. the government’s ban benefits local merchants much
D. discount stores usually offer a discount of 40%.
58. The underlined word “counterproductive” in Paragraph 6 of the letter probably means_________.
A. cheap, not expensive
B. surprising, not expected
C. harmful, not helpful
D. doubtful, not sure
59. One way the writer of this letter tries to convince the reader is by .
A. complaining that someone has to drive him to Parkersburg
B. getting an after-school job in fast-food restaurant himself
C. suggesting that many businessmen have the same opinion
D. giving specific examples of the high costs in Brockingham

Celia was shocked. She had always been in good shape during high school, but now, in her first year of college, she was suddenly ten pounds heavier. “My friends and I often had pizza or ice cream when we studied late at night,” she said, “and I was always drinking Coke to stay awake.”
Celia’s experience is common. Many students enter college and find it so different that they cannot deal with changes properly. They’re away from their parents and in a new stressful environment. Pressures together with freedom to sleep and eat whatever they please cause many students to experience the “Freshman 15”: gaining weight suddenly in their freshman year of college.
Most students do not realize that the “Freshman 15” can cause some serious health problems. Of course, college-age adults are still developing bone mass, so gaining some weight is normal. Sudden weight gain, however, puts too much strain(负担)on the heart and lungs, resulting in little energy and some difficulty thinking and remembering. In later life, it can lead to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and possible cancer.
The solution to the “Freshman 15” is simple-pay attention to developing good habits! In general:
●Eat normal-sized meals at regular times. Eat slowly and enjoy it, so you don’t need to go back for more.
●Keep only healthy snacks in your room-and don’t snack too often!
●Control drinking and smoking. Alcohol has a lot of calories, and smoking too much makes exercise difficult.
●Exercise regularly! Even just 30 minutes a day-such as walking quickly to class from your dorm-will make a big difference!
60. What happened to Celia in her first year of college
A. She had sleep problems.
B. She put on weight suddenly.
C. She always studied late.
D. She went on a diet so as to keep in good shape.
61. What do many students think of their freshman year of college
A. They find it quite different.
B. They find it not quite difficult.
C. They find it very free.
D. They find it simple.
62. What do most college students fail to realize
A. Gaining some weight is normal.
B. They have grown up.
C. They have gained a lot of weight.
D. Sudden weight gain may result in serious health problems.
63. What are students advised to do
A. Eat slowly and exercise regularly.
B. eat all food slowly and regularly.
C. Keep enough healthy snacks in the room.
D. Eat healthy snacks as much as possible.

If you don’t want people to know too much about you, then you had better keep your fridge contents secret according to a British market research document released last week.
Researchers peered(凝视)into the fridges of 400 people in Britain and compared the contents with the owners’ lifestyles. They claim to be able to classify the nation’s people by fridge contents.
They say those people can be separated into five categories; nutrition nerds, food faddies(whatever’s in style), martyr mums, fast food fanatics and restaurant regulars.
Nutrition nerds care much about what they put into their bodies. Their fridges are stocked with fruit, vegetables and healthy meat.
People in this category tend to be highly organized and usually work in law or accountancy. The vast majority is single, but if they have a partner, that person will be similar.
A fridge full of vitamins-enriched juices implies its owner works in media or fashion. They tend not to eat the foods they buy. Known as the food faddies, they just want to be seen as purchasing the latest important things.
A fridge filled with everything from steak to frozen fish suggests the martyr mum. Her fridge tends to be stocked with every kind of product, except what she herself would want.
This fridge hints at difficulty balancing family and work life. Fast food fanatics always buy mineral water for soda pop; the nearest they will get to fresh fruit is tomato sauce. Their fridges hint at someone who works hard and plays hard. Also, someone who woks hard and plays hard. Also, someone who is not into long term planning.
Finally, a fridge filled with nothing more than a bottle of white wine and some sparkling mineral water implies an owner who is single, lives in a big city and enjoys the finer things in life. The fridge is empty because this person regularly eats in restaurant.
64. We can know from the first two paragraphs that .
A. some researchers are fond of staring at other people’s fridges
B. people don’t want others to know about their secrets
C. the food you put in the fridge has something to do with your personality
D. there are mainly five kinds of lifestyles among British people
65. According to the passage, people who belong to food faddies_________.
A. don’t care much about money when buying things
B. will try their best to stay healthy
C. often stay up late to finish their job
D. prefer to ask others about what to do next.
66. What will those who often dine out put in the fridge
A. All kinds of food they like
B. Only something to drink
C. Fruit, vegetables and meat
D. Food rich in vitamins
67. What might be the most suitable title for the text
A. Keep your fridge a secret
B. You are what's in your fridge
C. What to put in the fridge
D. Be careful about your fridge

BEIJING——The handsome face and muscular figure of Lin Dan make him an ideal candidate for the big screen.
However, the Chinese badminton superstar says any speculation about a career in the entertainment industry will have to wait until his on-court career ends.
“Right now, I'm just focused on the 2012 Olympic Games. I will not think about the possibility of acting as long as I'm still able to play the sport,” said 27-year-old Lin during a press conference on Sunday organized by razor (剃刀) brand Gillette.
The reigning(占优势)Olympic and world champion is determined to hold on until the 2012 London Olympics, even though he achieved a grand slam(大满贯)by winning the Asian Games in Guangzhou.
“I will try my best and hold on to play the 2012 Olympic Games,” said Lin, who won the MVP Award at the Asian Games thanks to his men's single title and his overwhelming popularity with fans and the media.
“I know it will be a tough two years. I know rising stars and old foes will come up and pose bigger threats during my preparation. But I'm ready to accept the challenge,” ‘Super Dan’ said.
The Asiad title was the only major crown missing from Lin's glittering resume, which includes one Olympic title and three consecutive world crowns.
He said the pressure going into the Asiad was even greater than that at the 2008 Beijing Games.
“I know lots of people expected me to pick up the title. There was big pressure on me,” said Lin, who was upset by Indonesia's Hidayat Taufik in the Doha final four years ago. “So when I did it, I felt more excited than when I won the Olympic title.”
68. From the passage we can know that___________________________.
A. Lin Dan is fond of acting
B. Lin Dan will work on entertainment and badminton at the same time
C. Lin Dan has decided to take up badminton all his life.
D. Lin Dan won't consider join in the entertainment industry before he retires
69. We can infer that ________________________________________.
A. many athletes are afraid of the new opponent(对手)
B. Lin Dan will achieve his grand slam
C. Lin Dan is prepared to face the 2012 Olympic Games
D. Lin Dan beat Indonesia's Hidayat Taufik in 2006

For a clearer picture of what the student knows, most teachers use another kind of examination in addition to objective tests. They use “essay” tests, which require students to write long answers to broad, general questions such as the following: “Mention several ways in which Benjamin Franklin has influenced thinking of people in his own country and in other parts of the world.”
One advantage of the essay test is that it reduces the element of luck. The student cannot get a high score just by making a lucky guess. Another advantage is that it shows the examiner more cares about the student’s ability to put facts together into a meaningful whole. It should show how deeply he has thought about the subject. Sometimes, though, essay tests have disadvantages, too. Some students are able to write rather good answers without really knowing much about the subject, while other students who actually know the material have trouble expressing their ideas in the essay form.
Besides, in an essay test the student’s score may depend upon the examiner’s feelings at the time of reading the answer. If he is feeling tired or bored, the student may receive a lower score than he should. Another examiner reading the same answer might give it a much higher mark. Because of this, the objective test gives each student a fairer chance, and of course it is easier and quicker to score.
Whether an objective test or an essay test is used, problems arise. When some objective questions are used along with some essay questions, however, a fairly clear picture of the student’s knowledge can usually be gotten.
72. What may have been discussed in the previous(先前的) paragraphs
A. The essay test.
B. How teachers test their students.
C. How students write their essays.
D. The objective test.
73. The essay test is preferred because .
A. it shows more about the student’s understanding of the subject
B. it tests the student’s knowledge of the material as well as his expression of ideas
C. it gives each student a fairer chance
D. its scoring may be influenced by the examiner’s feelings
74. The underlined word “this” in the third paragraph refers to the fact that .
A. students may receive a lower score in an essay test
B. another examiner usually gives the answer a higher mark
C. different examiners may give the same essay different scores
D. the objective test gives each student a fairer chance
75. According to the passage, which of the following statements about the objective test is NOT true
A. It is more objective than the essay test in terms of scoring.
B. It allows the students to guess the correct answer without really knowing the material.
C. It shows the student’s ability to think bout difficult problems.
D. It is easy and quick to score.

Writing sample:
Have a healthy lifestyle
As we all know, health is very important. Only when we are healthy can we study well and enjoy life.
However, many teenagers don't pay any attention to their health, especially during the holiday. And they spend too much time watching TV, playing games and chatting on the Internet all night, which is bad for their health. First, this may make them get near-sighted. Besides, their bodies become much weaker. Thirdly, they will lose the chance to communicate with others face to face as they never go out, which may have a bad effect on their mental health.
In my opinion, they should spend less time in front of the TV or the computer. Go out to take some exercises, play some sports and visit some and have a healthy lifestyle.

M: Um…oh, no, it’s OK.⑩I don’t think my company would pay my expenses in first class! ⑨Is the 10:30 on time, by the way
W: Um…⑨It’s running 10 minutes late.
M: OK, thanks. ⑩I’ll call the company now. Thank you. I’ll come back later.

M: Marilyn, these are both top quality products! The quality is the same.
W: I know. But they don’t look the same. The one from Gild looks a modern vacuum cleaner. This Aero…
M: Aerosaurns.
M: Yeah. It looks like something from the 1960s.
W: I know. But what do most customers want Do they want to pay a reasonable price for a modem vacuum cleaner, like Gilo, or pay more for something that looks like fifty years old
M: Yes, but we need something different. OK, the Aerosaurus is more expensive, but it’s different. And Santra is making a good offer. And ⒀ Santra is offering cheaper delivery, as well. We can make a bigger profit.
W: But how many of these Aero…sauruses can we sell It looks like a dinosaur!
M: That’s why people will love it1

W: So, you’ve made your speech. Well done. Were you happy with it
M: I don’t know. Well, ⒂I suppose I was reasonably pleased. I think they appreciated some of the things I said.
W: I thought it was good. I particularly liked the way you remembered to thank all of the other staff as well. I think that made everyone happy and got them on your side as well. Has it helped you when you have to do another one What did you find most difficult about it
M: The worst thing was feeling so nervous. I don’t know what you can do about that. Breathing exercises Practising out loud That sort of thing.
W: I don’t think your nerves showed very much, except maybe right at the start. ⒃What I always do is make notes on small cards to remind me.
M: Yeah. That’s a good idea.

W: I always dreamed of opening my own restaurant. I always loved cooking. So when it came time for college, ⒄I knew that the cooking institute was definitely the place for me, although a lot of my friends went to study computer and my father wanted me to study science. And when I graduated, I couldn’t wait to get started. Well, that was probably my first mistake. I didn’t go slowly. I picked a building for my restaurant in a residential neighbourhood. I took great effort in decoration. But the parking in the neighbourhood was really difficult.⒅I didn’t have enough regular customers, because people didn’t really drive by and see it. At first, I thought is was great not to have any competition, but I realize now that another restaurant or two would have brought people into the area. ⒆My other mistake was that I wanted to serve only the best and use organic food. Well, the problem with that was I had to charge a lot of money for the meals. That didn’t help business either. ⒇ If I had only known then what I know now.
