Step 1
Step 2 Grammar ——
引导条件状语从句的连接词主要有:if(如果)、unless(除非)和as?long?as(只要)等。
If it rains tomorrow, I will stay at home.
If you ask him, he will help you.
I don’t know if it will rain tomorrow. If it will rain tomorrow, I will stay at home.
正:I don’t know if it will rain tomorrow. If it rains tomorrow, I will stay at home.
If you cool the water, it turns into ice.
Water turns into steam if you boil it.
If?I?were?you,?I?would?go with him.
If there were no air, we couldn’t live.
You will fail unless you study harder. (= You will fail if you don’t study harder.)
Let’s go out for a walk unless you are too tired. (= If you are not too tired, let’s go out for a walk.)
3. as long as (=so long as)
As long as?I?have?time, I?will?come?to?see?you.?
You may borrow my book as long as you keep it clean.
【注意】as/so long as 还可以表示“和……一样长”,as long as可用于肯定句和否定句,而so long as只能用于否定句。
The red pen is as long as the green one.
The red pen isn’t as/so long as the green one.

Hundreds of years ago, a Roman army wanted to capture Scotland. It was difficult for the Scots to drive the Romans away because there were too many Romans. It seemed that the Romans would win.
One night, the captain of the Scots took his soldiers to the top of a hill. “We will rest here tonight,” he said. “Tomorrow we must win, or we will die.”
The soldiers were all very tired, so they fell asleep soon. There were four soldiers on duty (执勤), but they were so tired that they fell asleep one by one. The Romans came together at the foot of the hill secretly. Slowly they climbed up the hillside quietly. Closer and closer they came to the sleeping Scots. They were almost at the top. Suddenly, one of them stepped on a thistle (踩到蓟).He cried out and woke the Scots soldiers up. In a moment, the Scots soldiers were on their feet and ready for the battle. The fighting was hard and the Scots wiped out (歼灭) the Romans and won at last.

Imagine you are living in a moving house. Inside the house, there is a small kitchen, a bathroom and a bedroom. Everything you need is close at hand.
In the US, you can really see these moving houses. They are called recreational vehicles (RV,房车). People call them houses on wheels. When it’s holiday time, the whole family often get into this lovely house and go for a trip across the country.
Compared to a real house, this house on the road is smaller for a family who have to spend the whole day together. But the best thing about it is that it changes your journey into a free exploration (探索).
You can drive as long as you like without worrying about finding hotels. Or you can just stop somewhere nice and stay for a few weeks. You may also meet other families who are on road trips. Together, you take out your snacks. It's camping time with a lot of talk and fun.
Of course, RVs are not always convenient. They can sometimes break down and you have to spend time mending (修理)them. But this kind of road trip still wins people’s hearts because they can go whenever and wherever they want.
