For 2009 climate summit(峰会)
For 2010 climate summit
For 2011 climate summit
-
There is a growing concern about the climate changes.
Extreme weather this year throughout the world.
Heavy snowfall has caused disruption across northern Europe, closing airports and bringing traffic to a stop.
Heavy snowstorm in Canada got freeways blocked and hundreds of cars and drivers were trapped on the way. The government had to send helicopters to save them.
Storms in Italy and Australia caused floods and debris flow, leaving thousands of people homeless.
4. Russia suffered the hottest weather for 10 centuries.
5. Floods caused the water in Indian River to rise to the highest of 100 years.
6. In China, some areas suffered droughts while others suffered floods and snowstorms.
What has cause this
Pre-reading
---- causes of global warming
What is it in the picture
It’s a greenhouse made of glass.
What is it used for
It’s used for growing plants, especially during cold weather.
How does it work
The air inside is warm because the glass traps the heat from the sun and keeps it from escaping. This makes the greenhouse heat up and so the plants can grow throughout the cold period.
Greenhouse gases!
What’s greenhouse gases effect
Greenhouse gases perform the same function as the glass in a greenhouse --- They trap the heat of the sun and keep the air surrounding the earth warm.
It is called the greenhouse effect.
What would happen if we trapped too much of heat in the greenhouse
What would happen if we trapped too much of heat on the earth
Reading
The earth is becoming warmer— but does it matter
Fast Reading
Glance at the article and answer the question.
It has a title, a first paragraph that is in bold, the main text in two columns, 2 graphs, two quotes引用,引号 .
What is the structure of a magazine like this and how is the text organized
2. What is the purpose of the paragraph that is in bold
To introduce the topic.
Questionnaires -I
1.What is the purpose of the title
To tell us the topic of Global warming
To illustrate(阐述) points by providing evidence.
3. What are the diagrams for
5.What are the two graphs about
Graph 1 shows the temperature difference on average from 1860 to 2000.
4.What is the main topic of the article
Global warming
Graph 2 is about the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere from 1957 to 1997.
Sophie Armstrong
The name of the magazine is “Earth care”.
7.What are the names of the three scientists mentioned in the article
They are Dr.Janice Foster,Charles Keeling and George Hambley.
6.Who wrote the magazine article What is the name of the magazine
8.What do they think about global warming Do they agree with one another
There are some very different attitudes among scientists towards this issue.
Some think the effects will be terrible, while some others believe that we should not worry about it.
It functions as a conclusion by asking the reader to reflect on the major theme of the text and to predict what might happen in the future.

What’s the meaning of the word “explore”
A. to examine a problem carefully.
B. to answer a problem
C. to ask a problem
D. to visit somewhere
During the 20th century the temperature of the earth rose about one degree Fahrenheit.
A
Para. 2
What has caused global warming
Human activity.
2.Translate the whole paragraph 2 into Chinese.
毫无疑问,地球是在变暖,而地球变暖正式人类活动导致而成的,并非是一种无规律的自然现象。
1.What are the “greenhouse gases”
2.How does greenhouse effect come about
Some byproducts of the burning of fossil fuels, including carbon dioxide, methane and water vapour, the most important one of which is carbon dioxide.
Greenhouse gases trap the heat from the sun and therefore warm the earth
Para. 3
1.What do you think of the greenhouse effect
Greenhouse effect is necessary for us. But too many greenhouse gases will cause the globe to be too warmer.

Summary
Skim over the passage, and tell what you have learnt in class.
Try to talk in general terms概括地;一般地说 rather than in details详细地 .
eg: I learnt that the earth is becoming warmer.
I learnt that global warming could have terrible effects on the environment.
….
How has the global warming come about
①Human activity--- burning of fossil fuels.
② Greenhouse effect--- greenhouse gases--- we need those gases.
③ Huge quantities of extra carbon dioxide---from 1957 to 1997---from around 315 parts per million to around 370 parts per million.
What are the effects of global warming
④ Encourage a greater range of animals.
①The sea level to rise.
② Severe storms, droughts, famines, the spread of diseases, and destruction of species.
③ Make plants grow faster. Crops will produce more.
What can we do about global warming as individuals
