New
Chapter
The
day
I
heard
that
Rainbow
Bookstore
was
closing
after
50
years
of
business,
I
was
heartbroken.
The
bookstore,
which
was
a
legendary
fixture
in
the
neighbourhood,
was
a
place
where
anyone
could
drop
in
and
connect
through
their
love
of
books.
When
I
hurried
to
the
store,
I
saw
that
the
books
were
already
being
packed
into
boxes.
I
had
a
long
chat
with
Casey,
the
store’s
elderly
owner.
Sighing
deeply,
he
told
me
how
it
was
becoming
difficult
to
run
an
independent
bookstore.
Most
young
people
preferred
reading
e-books
on
tablets.
More
and
more
customers
were
being
attracted
by
chain
stores
and
online
discounts.
I
tried
to
think
of
some
words
of
sympathy,
but
I
had
to
admit
that
the
Rainbow
Bookstore
couldn’t
stay
in
business
much
longer.
A
few
months
later,
I
was
back
in
the
neighbourhood
during
my
spring
break
and
was
surprised
to
see
that
the
bookstore
was
still
there
and
opened
for
business.
Its
old
brick
walls
hadn’t
been
decorated,
but
inside
it
was
like
a
different
world.
In
one
area,
a
book
reading
was
being
delivered.
Nearby,
customers
were
poring
over
shelves
selling
stationery,
posters
and
other
best-seller-themed
gifts.
The
large
board
in
the
corner
where
customers’
comments
on
the
books
were
being
displayed
had
been
replaced
by
a
big
screen.
Clearly,
the
Rainbow
Bookstore
was
in
good,
creative
hands.
I
was
told
that
the
community
had
decided
to
work
together
on
a
program
to
save
Rainbow
Bookstore.
The
campaign
had
been
led
by
Jennifer
Oakley,
a
saleswoman
who
had
grown
up
in
the
neighbourhood
and
who
had
now
taken
over
the
bookstore
from
Casey.
Under
Jennifer’s
leadership,
the
bookstore
was
being
turned
into
a
place
for
literature-loving
members
of
the
community
to
get
together.
It
had
a
cafe
selling
organic
food,
and
there
were
now
more
community
events
such
as
book
readings,
poetry
recitals
and
even
jazz
concerts
and
movie
nights,
where
people
could
gather
to
share
an
experience
that
couldn’t
be
downloaded.
I
joined
old
Casey,
who
was
looking
up
at
the
screen
on
which
readers’
comments
kept
popping
up.
“Well,
as
you
can
see,
corporate
knowledge
combined
with
creativity
has
brought
my
humble
bookstore
into
the
21st
century!
I’m
so
pleased
to
see
that
everything
I
wanted
to
offer
to
the
community
is
still
here.”

THE
ROAD
TO
SUCCESS
Near
the
small
town
of
Grottoes,
Virginia,
a
narrow
dirt
road
goes
from
the
house
of
Stephen
Curry’s
grandfather
to
the
woods
nearby.
A
far
cry
from
the
bright
lights
and
shiny
courts
of
the
National
Basketball
Association
(NBA),
it
was
along
this
road
that
Stephen’s
grandfather
built
a
simple
basket
by
attaching
a
piece
of
plastic
to
a
telephone
pole.
Like
his
father,
basketball
star
Dell
Cury,
Stephen
spent
many
childhood
hours
playing
on
this
muddy
basketball
court.
He
probably
didn’t
realise
it
at
the
time,
but
it
was
where
he
learnt
to
be
creative
and
flexible
as
a
player.
You
see,
with
every
shot,
the
weak
plastic
backboard
gave
way.
The
bumps
and
rocks
that
lined
the
road
under
the
basket
caused
the
ball
to
bounce
in
all
directions.
Knowing
where
the
ball
would
go
wasn’t
easy.
He
had
to
adjust
his
own
playing
style
as
a
result.
Shooting
with
great
accuracy
was
another
thing
he
learnt.
Only
shots
perfectly
aimed
at
its
centre
went
into
the
heavy,
thick
basket.
In
this
way,
practising
day
in
and
day
out
helped
Stephen
sharpen
his
skills.
Despite
his
father’s
successful
career,
Stephen
was
thought
by
many
people,
including
his
high
school
teammates
and
coaches,
to
be
too
short,
too
thin
and
too
weak
to
follow
in
his
father’s
footsteps.
But
Stephen
carried
on.
Playing
basketball
was
his
dream.
He
would
not
give
up.
He
finally
ended
up
playing
college
ball
at
a
small,
little-known
school,
Davidson
College,
not
too
far
from
where
he
lived.
His
creativity
and
perseverance
made
him
Davidson’s
star
player.
Selected
for
the
NBA
in
2009,
Stephen
joined
the
Golden
State
Warriors.
He
performed
beyond
everyone’s
expectations
with
his
accurate
shooting
and
continuous
efforts.
In
2015,
Stephen
won
his
first
NBA
championship,
and
he
led
the
Warriors
to
their
first
championship
since
1975.
After
receiving
the
Most
Valuable
Player
award
for
two
years
in
row,
Stephen
explained
his
philosophy,
“I
never
really
set
out
to
change
the
game...
What
I
wanted
to
do
was
just
be
myself...
I
know
it
inspires
a
lot
of
the
next
generation,
a
lot
of
people
who
love
the
game
of
basketball
to
value
the
skill
of
it,
value
the
fact
that
you
can
work
every
single
day
to
get
better.
You’ve
got
to
be
able
to
put
in
the
time
and
the
work.
That’s
how
I
got
here.
That’s
how
I
continue
to
get
better
every
single
day.”
Inspiring
others
to
believe
in
themselves,
Stephen
Curry
is
living
proof
that
what
other
people
thing
of
you
does
not
have
to
influence
what
you
become.
Through
self-belief,
hard
work,
perseverance
and
some
help
from
an
old
hoop,
he
has
shown
that
anything
is
possible.

Nobody
laughed
when
the
UK
comedy
show
Little
Britain
toured
the
US.
Americans
didn’t
find
the
“British
stereotypes(刻板印象)”funny.
One
character
was
a
woman
who
was
sick
whenever
she
saw
a
foreigner.Another
was
a
loud
and
rude
15-year-old
girl
cursing(骂)at
her
teachers.But
back
home,British
people
were
laughing,thinking,“Yes!That’s
exactly
what
we’re
like!”
A
laugh
is
a
laugh
in
any
language,but
the
reasons
for
it
can
be
very
different.Britons
and
Americans
speak
the
same
language,but
humor
does
not
always
translate.
Take
The
Office
as
an
example.This
was
originally
a
UK
TV
series
but
it
was
changed
for
the
US.Both
the
US
and
UK
series
are
set
in
a
boring
workplace
in
a
boring
town.But
David
Brent,the
boss
of
the
UK
office,is
not
a
nice
guy
like
Michael
Scott
in
the
US
version.
“We
had
to
make
Michael
Scott
a
slightly
nicer
guy,”wrote
series
creator
Ricky
Gervais.“He
couldn’t
be
too
mean.”
Gervais
said
British
people
are
different
from
Americans
because“Britons
cruelly
make
fun
of
people
we
like
or
dislike…and
of
ourselves”
He
believes
the
differences
between
the
American
and
British
senses
of
humor
are
because
of“our
upbringing”.
“Americans
are
brought
up
to
believe
they
can
be
the
next
president
of
the
United
States,”he
wrote.“Britons
are
told,‘It
won’t
happen
for
you’.”
Things
usually
turn
out
fine
at
the
end
of
every
US
Office
episode(集).
Even
if
they’re
not
perfect,
the
characters
“learn
a
lesson”
for
the
future.
But
in
David
Brent’s
office—and
in
lots
of
UK
comedies—the
last
scene
is
often
sad.
You
are
often
left
with
the
feeling
that
things
just
couldn’t
get
worse.
For
British
people,
this
seems
truer
to
life
and
so
much
funnier.
It’s
not
just
Britain
and
the
US
that
have
comic
differences.
Few
foreigners
would
understand
a
Chinese
cross-talk
showfor
example.
Cultural
differences
are
no
laughing
matter.
But
comic
differences
can
be
a
window
into
a
culture.
36.
What
is
the
purpose
of
the
first
paragraph?
A.
To
show
that
British
humor
is
not
funny
at
all.
B.
To
show
that
American
people
don't
understand
British
people.
C.
To
show
that
Britain
and
America
have
different
stereotypes.
D.
To
show
how
humor
may
mean
different
things
in
different
cultures.

boring

train
journey
and
had
brought
along
a
dozen
magazines
to
read
and
reread.I
looked
about
the
train.There
was
not
one
familiar
face.I
sighed
and
sat
down
to
read
my
Economics.
It
was
not
long
before
the
train
was
across
the
Causeway
and
in
Malaysia.Johore
Baru
was
just
another
city
like
Singapore,so
I
was
tired
of
looking
at
the
crowds
of
people
as
they
hurried
past.As
we
went
beyond
the
city,I
watched
the
straight
rows
of
rubber
trees
and
miles
and
miles
of
green.Then
the
first
village
came
into
sight.Immediately
I
came
alive;I
decided
to
wave
back.
From
then
on
my
journey
became
interesting.I
threw
my
magazines
into
the
waste
basket
and
decided
to
join
in
Malaysian
life.Then
everything
came
alive.The
mountains
seemed
to
speak
to
me.Even
the
trees
were
smiling.I
stared
at
everything
as
if
I
was
looking
at
it
for
the
first
time.
The
day
passed
fast
and
I
even
forgot
to
have
my
lunch
until
I
felt
hungry.I
looked
at
my
watch
and
was
surprised
that
it
was
3:00
pm.Soon
the
train
pulled
up
at
Butterworth.I
looked
at
the
people
all
around
me.They
all
looked
beautiful.When
my
uncle
arrived
with
a
smile,I
threw
my
arms
around
him
to
give
him
a
warm
hug
(拥抱).I
had
never
done
this
before.He
seemed
surprised
and
then
his
weather-beaten
face
warmed
up
with
a
huge
smile.We
walked
arm
in
arm
to
his
car.
I
looked
forward
to
the
return
journey.

There
are
two
types
of
people
in
the
world.
Although
they
have
equal
degree
of
health,
wealth
and
other
comforts
of
life,
one
becomes
happy
and
the
other
becomes
unhappy.
This
arises
from
the
different
ways
in
which
they
consider
things,
persons,
events
and
the
resulting
effects
upon
their
minds.
People
who
are
to
be
happy
fix
their
attention
on
the
convenience
of
things:
the
pleasant
parts
of
conversation,
the
well
prepared
dishes,
the
goodness
of
the
wine
and
the
fine
weather.
They
enjoy
all
the
cheerful
things.
Those
who
are
to
be
unhappy
think
and
speak
only
of
the
opposite
things.
Therefore,
they
are
continually
dissatisfied.
By
their
remarks,
they
sour
the
pleasure
of
society,
offend
many
people,
and
make
themselves
disagreeable
everywhere.
If
this
turn
of
mind
was
founded
in
nature,
such
unhappy
persons
would
be
the
more
to
be
pitied.
The
intention
of
criticizing
and
being
disliked
is
perhaps
taken
up
by
imitation.
It
grows
into
n
habit,
unknown
to
its
possessors.
The
habit
may
be
strong,
but
it
may
be
cured
when
those
who
have
it
realize
it
had
effects
on
their
interests
and
tastes.
I
hope
this
little
warning
may
be
of
service
to
them,
and
help
them
change
this
habit.
Although
in
fact
it
is
chiefly
an
act
of
the
imagination,
it
has
serious
results
in
life
since
it
brings
on
deep
sorrow
and
bad
luck.
Those
people
offend
many
others;
nobody
loves
them,
and
no
one
treats
them
with
more
than
the
most
common
politeness
and
respect.
This
frequently
puts
them
in
bad
temper
and
draws
them
into
arguments.
If
they
aim
at
getting
some
advantages
in
social
position,
or
fortune,
nobody
wishes
them
success.
Nor
will
anyone
start,
step
or
speak
a
word
to
favor
their
hopes.
If
they
bring
on
themselves
public
objections,
no
one
will
defend
or
excuse
them,
and
many
will
join
to
criticize
their
wrong
doings.
These
should
change
this
bad
habit
and
be
pleased
with
what
is
pleasing,
without
worrying
needlessly
about
themselves
and
others.
If
they
do
not,
it
will
be
good
for
others
to
avoid
any
contact
with
them.
Otherwise,
it
can
be
disagreeable
and
sometimes
very
inconvenient,
especially
when
one
becomes
mixed
up
in
their
quarrels.

Let
me
explain
a
bit
by
telling
you
where
the
challenge
came
from.
I
have
many
things
in
common
with
my
dad,
like
music
taste
and
sense
of
humour,
but
sadly
reading
isn't
one
of
them.
I
can
happily
spend
a
whole
day
curled
up
with
a
book
but
my
dad
can't
read
a
book
for
longer
than
about
5
minutes.
He
reads
emails,
websites
and
documents
for
work,
but
not
books.
I
think
that
sitting
down
to
read
for
just
15
minutes
a
day
is
a
good,
way
to
relax.
Giving
yourself
a
goal
or
a
challenge
is
a
good
way
to
change
a
habit
or
achieve
something,
so
why
not
try
to
create
a
new
habit
of
reading?
I
know
lots
of
people
would
rather
relax
on
their
computers
or
in
front
of
the
TV.
Everyone
is
different
and
has
their
own
interests,
but
I
think
there
are
lots
of
benefits
from
reading,
which
screen-based
activities
(games,
films,
TV)
don't
have.
One
thing
I
personally
love
about
reading,
is
being
transported
to
another
world.
I
often
forget
the
time
or
thing
that
are
going
on
around
me!
Reading
is
a
great
way
to
switch
off
before
you
go
to
bed,
so
you
can
truly
relax.
I
know
you
can
be
transported
to
a
different
world
in
a
film
or
a
TV
show,
but
I
think
books
do
it
better.
While
watching
a
film,
I
often
talk
to
my
flatmates,
send
texts,
or
paint
my
nails.
A
book,
on
the
other
hand
commands
your
full
attention.
Reading
gives
you
the
chance
to
get
to
know
hundreds
of
new
people!
It
also
teaches
you
to
see
things
from
other
people's
point
of
view,
and
understand
other
people's
decisions
or
opinions.
With
a
book,
you
can
hear
everything
a
character
is
thinking
or
feeling—you
really
can
be
inside
someone
else's
head!
So
give
it
a
go!
Take
15
minutes
when
you're
waking
up,
going
to
bed,
eating
lunch,
or
having
a
coffee.
If
you
read
a
lot,
why
not
try
15
minutes
of
an
English
book,
or
pass
the
challenge
on
to
someone
else?
Good
luck,
and
happy
reading.

Do
you
remember
that
story
about
the
little
girl
who
goes
to
visit
her
grandmother
and
meets
a
big,
bad
wolf
along
the
way?
Or
perhaps
you
remember
the
story
of
the
three
little
pigs
who
build
three
houses
to
protect
themselves
from
a
wolf?
The
reality
behind
the
fairy
tales
is
that
people
feared
wolves.
Hunting
and
killing
originating
from
hatred
almost
caused
the
animals
to
go
extinct.
Wolves
needed
a
fairy
mother
—and
that
is
what
Brookfield
Zoo
in
Chicago
is
for
wolves
and
their
puppies.
Being
a
fairy
mother
to
wolves
is
not
easy.
Brookfield
Zoo
replaced
iron-barred
cubicles
with
safe
habitats,
which
are
not
merely
appealing
to
the
zoo
visitor,
but
more
importantly,
are
contributing
to
the
normal
behavior
and
reproduction
of
the
animals.
The
wolves
have
a
large
area
to
run
and
play
in,
places
to
hide
and
sleep
in,
and
hills
to
climb
with
lots
of
grass
and
trees
around
them.
A
fairy
mother’s
job
is
to
make
dreams
magically
come
true
and
part
of
the
magic
is
being
invisible.
The
people
who
take
care
of
the
wolves
hide
themselves
and
the
food
and
toys
in
places
where
the
wolves
can
dig
them
up
and
find
them
on
their
own,
so
they
feel
more
like
they
are
living
in
nature.
Fairy
tales
are
just
stories.
Wolves
don’t
dress
up
as
grandmothers,
nor
have
they
blown
a
house
down.
Wolves
aren’t
scary
at
all,
and
in
fact,
they
are
more
afraid
of
humans
than
we
are
of
them.
The
wolves
have
a
great
life
at
Brookfield
Zoo.
Maybe
they
will
stay
at
Brookfield
Zoo,
but
it
would
be
nice
to
see
them
live
back
in
nature
again,
too.
If
we
all
work
together,
maybe
we
can
make
this
fairy
tale
come
true
for
the
wolves.
46.
What
are
the
two
stories
used
to

A.
Wolves

false

field

47.

word
can
best
describe
the
area
for
wolves
at
Brookfield
Zoo?
A.

B.
Mountainous.
C.
Remote.
D.
Natural-looking.
48.
What’s
unique
about
the
people
looking
after
the
wolves
at

welcomed
by

hide-and-seek
with
the

D.

49.

does
"this
fairy
tale"
in

refer
to?
A.
Living

the

good
care
of.
C.
Staying
at

D.

no
more.
50.

is
the
best

for

text?
A.

As
COVID-19
spreads
across
the
globe,
people
are
staying
1.8
meters
apart,
washing
their
hands
and
avoiding
touching
their
faces
.
Or
at
least
they're
trying
to.
However,
ignoring
an
itchy
nose
or
hair
in
your
eyes
is
easier
said
than
done.
Even
professionals
who
should
know
better
get
caught
by
the
impulse.
Medical
school
students
being
trained
in
infectious
disease
prevention,
for
example,
touched
their
faces
23
times
an
hour
during
a
lecture,
according
to
a
2015
study
in
the
American
Journal
of
Infection
Control.
"Actually,
it's
one
of
the
most
common
habits
for
any
human,"
said
psychologist
Kevin
Chapman.
"People
are
taught
to
touch
their
faces
often,
whether
by
applying
makeup,
brushing
their
teeth,
or
putting
their
hair
up,"
Chapman
added.
These
routines
carry
over
to
less
intentional
methods
of
touching
their
faces,
such
as
rubbing
their
eyes
in
a
bacteria-filled
grocery
store.
This
tendency
isn't
just
about
repetition.
"It's
a
habit
to
make
sure
that
our
faces
are
appearing
a
certain
way
publicly,
"
Chapman
said.
Food
around
the
mouth
,
for
example
,
could
suggest
that
someone
is
lazy
or
doesn’t
take
care
of
their
appearance.
Touching
their
face
allows
people
to
regulate
their
presentation
and
also
shows
others
that
they're
self-aware.
Though
touching
the
face
is
a
bad
habit
for
many
people,
it
can
be
worse
for
those
with
anxiety.
To
manage
stress,
they
may
perform
body-focused
repetitive
behaviors
such
as
biting
their
nails
or
pulling
their
hair.
On
a
less
severe
level,
people
may
touch
their
faces
to
comfort
themselves
in
times
of
stress.
When
people
are
concerned
about
touching
their
faces,
they
may
do
it
more
frequently.
To
break
the
habit,
you
should
start
by
being
more
aware
of
what
you
are
doing,
but
don't
punish
yourself
when
you
reach
out
your
hand.

59.What
does
the
underlined
word
“cultivate”
in

probably
mean?
A.
Develop.
B.
Decline.
C.
Defeat.
D.
Deserve.
60.What
does
Dai
Bin
think
of
the
family-friendly
traveling
market?
A.
The
overall
situation
is
worsening
and
depressing.
B.
It
is
promising
but
needs
to
be
improved.
C.
There
is
no
room
for
further
improvement.
D.
It
is
full
of
uncertainty
and
with
a
high
probability
of
failure.
C
Our
preference
for
this
or
that
kind
of
music
is
obviously
a
subjective
(主观的、个人的)
matter.
It
can
also
be
highly
unstable
(不稳定的)
,
changing
not
only
during
a
lifetime,
but
even
on
a
scale
of
months,
or
even
days.
Yet
despite
such
variety,
there
are
three
factors
that
I
think
are
the
main
contributors
(因素).
The
first
is
how
we
were
brought
up,
or
the
musical
background
which
surrounded
us
in
our
formative
years
(性格形成时期).
The
kinds
of
music
that
we
were
exposed
to
when
we
were
small
helped
to
create
very
specific
mental
patterns.
However,
even
the
most
stable
musical
pattern
can
be
changed
by
socio-cultural
concerns,
and
these
form
the
second
contribution
to
our
musical
preferences.
Music,
probably
from
the
very
beginning
of
the
existence
of
modern
humans,
has
been
used
to
bring
people
together
in
various
kinds
of
activities,
because
it
is
really
efficient
at
regulating
(调节)
the
bodily
and
emotional
responses
of
large
groups
of
participants.
Whether
you’re
into
heavy
metal,
or
hip
hop,
or
jazz,
your
preferences
are
guided
in
part
by
your
desire
to
be
a
member
of
some
social
circle.
These
two
factors
seem
to
suggest
that
musical
preferences
are
formed
unconsciously,
without
the
listener
being
aware
of
it,
but
this
is
obviously
not
the
case.
Nothing
is
likely
to
be
more
important
than
our
own
subjective
feeling
at
the
time
of
listening.
Especially
today,
with
nearly
unlimited
access
to
all
styles
of
music,
we
use
music
as
a
tool
for
regulating
our
emotions
and
moods.
This
is
why
when
you
want
to
study
you
might
reach
for
something
simple,
without
words.
Or
when
you’re
trying
to
relax
before
bed
you’ll
probably
listen
to
something
calming.
They
point
to
the
fantastic
power
of
music
in
our
lives.

preferences
for
music
are
totally
decided
by
some
uncontrolled
factors.

A、B、C、D
四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
A
polished
resume
is
essential
for
a
successful
school
or
job
application.
A
clear
structure
and
well
organized
content
can
be
the
difference
between
success
and
failure.
Structuring
your
resume
(1)
Create
a
header
with
your
name
and
contact
information.
At
the
top
of
the
page、type
your
full
name,
address,
phone
number
and
email
address.
There
are
also
down
loadable
templates(模板)available
online.
If
none
of
them
appeals
to
you.
however,
you
can
always
use
your
own
design,
(2)
Use
a
chronological(时间顺序排列的)resume.
In
a
chronological
resume,
you
list
your
work
and
education
experiences,
starting
with
your
most
recent
experience.
(3)
Include
your
relevant
education,
awards
or
training.
Typically,
your
highest
academic
qualification
is
the
only
one
you
need
to
include
on
your
resume.
However,
you
can
add
lesser
achievements
if
they
are
relevant
to
a
job's
requirements.
If
you
had
a
cumulative(累积的)GPA
of
3.5
or
higher,
feel
free
to
include
it.
Otherwise,
it
would
be
best
to
leave
it
out.
If
you’re
listing
more
than
one
degree,
include
your
GPA
on
both
of
them,
if
possible.
(4)
List
work
experience,
including
relevant
volunteer
work
and
internships.
Use
specific
job
titles
and
short
explanations
that
tell
potential
employers
exactly
what
you
did,
what
skills
you
gained
and
how
they
could
be
useful
in
a
new
job.
(5)
Try
a
functional
resume,
if
you
lack
direct
work
experience.
With
a
functional
resume
you
can
highlight
your
specific
skills
and
resources
without
having
to
list
previous
jobs.
A
functional
resume
emphasizes
what
you
can
do
rather
than
what
you've
done.
Making
your
content
shine
(1)
Place
keywords
in
your
resume
strategically.
Schools
or
employers
often
use
software
to
scan
resumes
for
specific
keywords.
(2)
Add
hobbies
and
interests,
if
they
relate
to
the
job.
A
section
for
hobbies
and
interests
is
usually
considered
optional.
However,
you
should
include
only
hobbies
or
interests
that
would
benefit
an
employer.
For
example,
if
the
job
requires
good
teamwork,
you
can
say
that
you
were
captain
of
your
high
school
basketball
team.
(3)
Proofread
before
sending
your
resume.
Don't
only
rely
on
the
grammar
and
spelling
checkers
built
into
your
word
processing
app.
Read
through
your
resume
several
times
to
make
sure
it's
error-free.
(4)
Save
your
resume
as
a
PDF
file.
Most
schools
and
employers
prefer
to

Last
month,
a
modernized
Fisheries
Act
became
law
in
order
to
set
the
stage
for
rebuilding
the
abundance(丰富的)
of
fish
in
Canada’s
oceans.
For
the
first
time
since
its
start
in
1868,
rebuilding
plans
are
now
required
for
reduced
fish
populations.
The
act
also
ends
the
import
and
export
of
shark
fins
in
Canada.
Around
the
world,
it
has
been
a
legal
requirement
to
rebuild
fish
populations
and
prevent
them
from
becoming
reduced.
Besides,
there
are
the
social,
cultural
and
economic
benefits
that
come
along
with
it.
Thanks
to
authorities
who
put
stress
on
rebuilding
fish
populations,
the
act
now
lays
a
strong
foundation
for
supporting
healthy
oceans
for
generations
to
come.
The
act
bans
importing
and
exporting
shark
fins
in
Canada.
Fins
from
as
many
as
73
million
sharks
end
up
in
the
global
shark
fin
trade
every
year,
including
many
endangered
species.
Canada
has
been
the
largest
importer
of
shark
fins
outside
of
Asia.
This
act
is
a
huge
victory
for
sharks
and
for
the
many
Canadians,
advocacy(支持)
groups
and
politicians
who
joined
together
to
fight
for
the
ban
on
this
cruel
practice.
Billions
of
people
worldwide
depend
on
our
oceans
for
their
food
and
livelihood.
By
rebuilding
its
fisheries,
Canada
is
helping
lead
the
way
toward
healthier
and
more
sustainable
oceans.
In
fact,
in
Canada,
only
34%
of
fish
populations
are
healthy
while
more
than
13%
are
dangerously
reduced.
The
new
act
should
change
this,
requiring
that
rebuilding
plans
be
created
for
all
fish
populations
in
the
critical
zone.
The
act
also
contains
modern
fisheries
management
practices,
such
as
ecosystem-based
approaches
and
habitat
protection
measures.
Rebuilding
fish
populations
can
also
increase
incomes
and
jobs
in
coastal
communities.
Oceana
Canada
worked
closely
with
Fisheries
and
Oceans
Canada,
First
Nations,
advocacy
groups,
fishers
and
others
to
bring
the
changes
to
the
act
to
success
and
will
continue
to
advocate
fisheries
rebuilding
in
Canada.
36.

of
the
new
act?

To
increase
Canada’s
fish
populations.

rules
for
fish
trade
in
Canada.

To
clean
oceans
for
the
survival
of
fish.
D.
To
set
a
protected
area
for
shark
species.

You’ve
put
on
your
nice
clothes,
your
hair
comes
out
just
right,
and
someone
tells
you
how
great
you
look.
But
instead
of
enjoying
the
praise,
you
find
it
difficult
to
give
a
response.
So,
why
can
a
compliment
be
so
hard
to
accept?
“Many
people
have
trouble
accepting
compliments.
Sometimes,
it’s
tied
to
social
anxiety.
It
can
also
be
caused
by
feelings
of
low
self-esteem,
or
by
going
through
life
without
experiencing
positive
feelings
of
being
grateful,”
explains
Lisa
Schuman,
a
New
York-based
social
worker.
“Besides,
if
you’re
feeling
anger
towards
someone
and
they
give
you
a
compliment,
you
may
find
it
hard
to
believe.”
Have
you
ever
met
a
person
who
couldn’t
respond
well
to
someone’s
well-meaning,
kind
words
and
had
to
escape
from
the
conversation?
Social
anxiety
disorder
is
not
just
a
catch-all
phrase;
it’s
an
actual
condition.
People
with
it
can
really
struggle
with
both
giving
and
getting
compliments.
They
may
cast
off
kind
words
about
themselves
because
they
don’t
feel
worthy
of
getting
them.
This
leads
to
a
bad
cycle
of
reducing
self-esteem
and
even
more
social
anxiety.
Even
for
people
who
don’t
suffer
from
this
disorder,
compliments
can
sometimes
lead
to
embarrassment,
especially
if
you’re
feeling
unsure
of
yourself
in
the
moment.
And
it’s
a
very
rare
person
who
never
feels
uncomfortable
some
of
the
time,
either
at
parties
or
during
close
conversations.
But
learning
how
to
accept
compliments
is
an
important
social
skill
that
everyone
can
benefit
from,
whether
they
experience
social
anxiety
occasionally
or
often.
Studies
have
shown
that
self-knowledge
and
self-esteem
are
the
two
main
influences
on
our
social
interactions.
We
actually
bring
our
own
feelings
about
ourselves
into
each
conversation
we
have.
Everyone
has
a
poor
self-esteem
day
every
now
and
then.
If
we
get
a
compliment
on
such
a
day,
it’s
hard
to
believe
——
and
pretty
much
impossible
to
accept.
So
even
a
pure-hearted,
well-meaning
and
honest
compliment
is
going
to
land
on
us
like
a
lie.
Then
how
can
we
properly
deal
with
others’
compliments
in
that
case?

Lisa
Schuman’s
words
