In the countryside, the air is fresher, the sky is bluer, and there are also greener trees and cleaner rivers. 在乡村，空气更清新，天空更蓝，并且也有更绿的树和更清澈的河流。
句中的fresher, bluer, greener和cleaner是形容词fresh, blue, green和clean的比较级。比较级用于两者之间进行比较。如果是三者或三者以上的比较，则要用形容词的最高级，如：freshest, bluest等。
【拓展】形容词和副词有三个比较等级，即原级、比较级、最高级。下面是单音节形容词比较级和最高级构成的变化规则。
1.一般在词尾直接加er或est，例如，tall-taller-tallest，long-longer-longest
2.以不发音的字母e结尾的单词在词尾直接加r或st，例如，nice-nicer-nicest
3.以辅音字母+y结尾的词，把y变为i，再加er或est，例如，heavy-heavier-heaviest
4.重读闭音节，末尾只有一个辅音字母，双写这个辅音字母，再加er或est，例如，big-bigger-biggest
5.部分双音节词和多音节词分别在原级前加more构成比较级和most构成最高级，例如，slowly-more slowly-most slowly；beautiful-more beautiful-most beautiful
I’m much faster than you. 我比你快得多。
fast在此处为形容词，意为“能够快速移动或行走的；（动作）敏捷的”。
faster than… 比…更快。“比较级+than…”用于两个人或事物之间进行比较。Than后边的比较对象可以是一个词，一个短语或一个句子。如：
Days are longer in summer than in winter. 夏天的白天比冬天的白天长。
副词much修饰形容词的比较级，表示比较的程度。可修饰比较级的副词还有：a lot… …的多；a little一点儿；even更。如：
He is a lot earlier than I. 他比我早的多。
There is a little more milk in the bottle than in the cup.瓶子里的牛奶比杯子里的多一点
Yesterday is hot, but today it is even hotter. 昨天热，但今天更热。
And I’m the biggest of all. 我在所有的之中是最大的。
The biggest of… “在……之中最大”，是形容词最高级的用法。三者或三者以上相比较，其形式通常是“the+最高级形式+in/ of/ among+比较范围”，意为“某人（某物）在某范围内最……”。如：
He is the tallest of/ among all the boys. 他是男孩子中个子最高的。
