Objectives:
By the end of this session, most students will be better able to read and write an asking for help message. This will be achieved by:
Reviewing the names of chores: sweep the floor, make the bed, do the dishes… and different sentence patterns of making polite requests: Could you please…/ Could you…
Reviewing and learning other verb phrases: take care of, fee the dog, wash his bowl, take him for a walk and play with him…
Reading and understanding an e-mail message with the reading strategies: prediction, skimming and scanning. Also getting the useful words, sentence patterns and the structure of the message.
By the end of this session, most students will be better able to be helpful.

Teaching and learning arrangements:
Step 1: Greeting and free talk
T: Good afternoon, class.
Ss: Good afternoon, teacher.
T: I’m glad to have class with you today. And I want to make friends with you.
T: Could you (please) tell me your name

(Ask several students some simple questions using “Could you please… ”
Step 2: Review
T: I like doing chores. What chores do I do

Now let me tell you how do I take care of Bingo. First, I have to feed the dog. Feed means give food to sb.
Then I wash his bowl because it’s dirty.
Next I take him for a walk.
Finally I play with him.

I feed the dog, wash his bowl, take him for a walk and play with him.

Don’t forget to… is a good sentence. And he also uses a conjunction: then It makes the sentence much better.
T: It’s a message asking for help. What’s the structure
First, we have to write down the receiver: Dear XXX.
Then, the beginning sentence: Thanks for doing sth.
Then, ask for help politely, eg: could you please; could you or please.
Next, write the ending like: Have fun and See you.
Finally, write down thanks and your name.
While writing, please use some good sentences eg “Don’t forget to …” and conjunctions like “then, and, next, finally…”

Step 6:Discussion
T: Spring Festival is coming. Our class is going to have a big party.
What can we do for it Please have a discussion about it in groups of four.
First take out your paper please. Discuss in your group and make a list. Then give a report.

Step 7: Writing
T: There are so many things we have to do for the big party. Please write a message to your friend and ask for help.
