三.阅读理解
A
Train
travel
is
becoming
more
popular.
Amtrak,
the
US
national
railroad
passenger
company,
reports
that
the
number
of
passengers
continues
to
grow
each
year.
The
passenger
kilometres
and
the
number
of
passenger
journeys
are
also
increasing.
There’s
every
reason
to
believe
train
travel
will
continue
to
attract
more
passengers
as
fuel
prices
climb.
As
you
plan
your
vacation,
you’ll
need
to
consider
the
advantages
and
disadvantages
of
train
travel.
Here
are
some
things
that
you
need
to
keep
in
mind.
Train
travel
is
fast
and
direct
between
major
cities,
especially
in
countries
with
high?speed
trains.
It’s
relatively
easy
to
book
a
train
trip.
In
many
countries,
you
can
book
your
tickets
online
or
go
to
a
train
station
to
buy
them.
For
single
or
couple
travellers,
travelling
by
train
can
be
much
less
expensive
than
renting
a
car,especially
when
you
consider
the
cost
of
fuel
and
tolls
(通行费).
However,
train
schedules
may
not
match
your
preferred
travel
time
and
date,
so
you
might
have
to
change
your
trip.
This
is
especially
true
for
long?distance
train
travel
in
the
US.
You
may
have
to
get
off
the
train
at
midnight
at
a
small
station
in
an
empty
town
in
order
to
make
a
train
connection.
You
need
to
bring
your
own
food
and
drink
onto
the
train
as
the
food
and
drink
served
on
trains
can
be
expensive.
Conditions
on
the
train
may
be
crowded,
dirty
or
uncomfortable,
especially
during
busy
travel
periods
or
in
developing
countries.
In
the
end,
you’ll
need
to
do
some
research
on
train
ticket
prices,
check
schedules
against
your
own
plan
and
weigh
the
advantages
and
disadvantages
of
train
travel
against
your
personal
preferences.
1.What
may
be
one
reason
for
train
travel
increase
from
the
text?
A.More
new
railways.
B.Growing
fuel
prices.
C.Improved
train
schedules.
D.Convenient
food
service.
2.Which
is
NOT
one
of
the
advantages
of
train
travel
according
to
the
text?
A.It
is
the
cheapest
mode
of
travel.
B.It
is
easy
to
book
a
train
ticket
online.
C.It
is
cheaper
for
single
or
couple
travellers.
D.It
is
fast
and
direct
between
big
cities.
3.What
problem
might
passengers
meet
when
travelling
by
train?
A.They
might
have
to
book
train
tickets.
B.They
might
have
to
pay
for
the
fuel
and
tolls.
C.They
might
have
to
change
trains
in
a
crowded
town.
D.They
might
have
to
change
trains
midway
for
a
long?distance
trip.
4.What
does
the
underlined
word
“weigh”
in
the
last
paragraph
mean?
A.Combine.
B.Consider.
C.Influence.
D.Keep.
B
It
was
an
old
day
when
I
set
out
for
a
run
in
Moab,
Utah,
with
my
dog,
Taz.
As
an
athlete
I
often
went
for
a
run
by
myself.
While
running
along
a
canyon
(峡谷)
road,
I
hit
a
piece
of
ice.
I
slipped
down
the
rock
face
and
fell
60
feet
into
the
canyon,
landing
on
a
ledge
(岩脊).
Taz
found
his
way
to
me,
so
I
knew
there
must
be
a
way
out
of
the
canyon,
but
I
couldn’t
stand,
as
I
had
broken
an
important
bone.
I
shouted
for
help
but
then
decided
to
move
to
the
bottom
of
the
canyon
first.
The
ledge
was
too
dangerous
to
stay.
It
took
me
five
hours
to
go
a
quarter
of
a
mile.
Eventually
it
got
dark,
and
I
decided
to
stay
where
I
was
for
the
night,
next
to
a
puddle
of
water.
All
I
had
on
me
was
a
water
bottle
and
some
chocolates.
At
night,
I
avoided
sleeping
for
fear
of
dying
of
hypothermia
(低体温症).
Taz
stayed
with
me,
providing
some
warmth.
The
next
morning,
I
couldn’t
move
at
all.
But
I
was
sure
somebody
would
hear
me
screaming
for
help.
The
second
night
in
the
canyon
seemed
even
colder.
My
feet
were
frostbitten
(冻伤).
On
the
third
day,
I
accepted
the
fact
that
I
might
die.
I
called
Taz
over
and
told
him
to
go
and
get
help.
Taz
returned,
alone.
Then
I
heard
an
engine
in
the
distance.
I
started
shouting
for
help,
and
then
I
saw
a
man
walking
towards
me.
It
turned
out
that
my
neighbor
noticed
I
hadn’t
come
home,
and
Taz
had
found
the
rescue
team.
I
was
airlifted
to
hospital,
where
doctors
found
I
was
seriously
wounded,
having
lost
half
of
my
blood.
Five
years
on,
I
still
think
about
the
experience.
I
couldn’t
run
like
I
used
to
due
to
the
after-effects
of
the
accident,
and
cold
weather
brings
back
bad
memories,
but
I’m
married
with
two
kids,
and
Taz
is
still
alive.
Realizing
you
have
a
second
chance
to
live
puts
things
into
perspective.
5.
Why
did
the
author
try
to
move
to
the
bottom
of
the
canyon?
A.
To
reach
a
safe
place.
B.
To
climb
back
to
the
road.
C.
To
come
across
some
helper.
D.
To
avoid
being
attacked
by
wild
animals.
6.
What
was
the
biggest
challenge
the
author
faced
during
the
nights
in
the
canyon?
A.
Lack
of
food.
B.
Physical
pain.
C.
Fear
of
death.
D.
Low
temperature.
7.
What
can
we
infer
from
the
rescue?
A.
Taz
turned
to
the
author’s
neighbor
for
help.
B.
The
author
stayed
in
the
canyon
for
3
nights.
C.
The
author
didn’t
hold
out
much
hope
of
his
dog.
D.
The
rescue
team
was
called
by
the
author’s
screams.
C
Most
cities
were
built
on
rivers.
People
originally
settled
in
Paris
because
of
the
Seine,
and
in
London
for
the
Thames.
A
third
of
New
York
City’s
surface
area
is
water.
For
centuries,
city
folk
used
rivers
for
shipping,
wastes,
fishing
and
play.
The
Industrial
Revolution
ruined
rivers
for
more
than
a
century.
Huge
new
urban
populations
overwhelmed
them
with
the
pollution
from
wastes,
factories
and
ships.
In
recent
decades,
rivers
lost
their
industrial
function
and
cities
began
cleaning
them
up.
The
Thames
is
now
the
cleanest
it
has
been
in
150
years
and
proud
of
seals
and
the
occasional
whale,
sometimes
alive.
In
cities
from
Chicago
to
provincial
China,
dirty
riverside
warehouses
have
been
turned
into
restaurants
and
apartments.
But
rivers
also
need
to
regain
their
original
purpose
as
transport
centers.
Cities
are
shifting
more
traffic
back
to
the
river

but
this
time
cleanly
and
silently,
using
the
coming
generation
of
electric
ferries.
Ferries
already
transport
2.1
billion
passengers
a
year.
Numbers
have
been
rising
in
San
Francisco,
New
York
and
Sydney,
while
London
plans
to
double
its
annual
total
of
riders
to
20
million
by
2035.
Imagine
using
the
huge
capacity
of
shipping
to
take
delivery
trucks
off
the
roads.
One
of
the
newer
Thames
boat
with
a
capacity
of
1,750
tons
can
replace
44
large
trucks.
Even
without
being
electric-powered,
it
uses
much
less
energy
per
ton
and
causes
less
noise
pollution.
In
other
words,
we
need
to
turn
truck
drivers
into
boat
captains.
Delivery
companies
will
need
to
build
new
distribution
centres
on
cheap
riverside
land.
When
their
boats
stop
at
the
new
downtown
wharves(码头),
electric
cargo(货物)
bikes
will
deliver
packages
the
last
mile.
Boat-to-bike
is
more
complicated
than
delivery
by
truck,
because
it
adds
a
stage.
You
might
have
to
pay
more
to
get
your
parcels
the
same
day.
As
for
the
advantage,
it
will
unblock
city
centres.
Rivers
are
the
reason
our
cities
are
where
they
are.
We
just
forgot
about
them.
8.Why
is
the
Thames
mentioned
in
paragraph
3?
A.To
praise
the
efforts
of
the
government.
B.To
explain
the
current
healthy
ecosystem.
C.To
stress
the
importance
of
the
Industrial
Revolution.
D.To
show
the
return
of
some
rivers’
original
conditions.
9.What’s
the
advantage
of
boat-to-bike
delivery?
A.It
cleans
up
the
rivers.
B.It
speeds
up
the
delivery.
C.It
is
likely
to
reduce
the
cost.
D.It
eases
the
pressure
of
traffic.
10.Which
is
the
following
may
the
author
agree
with?
A.Boat-to-bike
delivery
is
too
complex
to
make.
B.Rivers
should
serve
as
the
transport
center
like
before.
C.London
has
doubled
its
number
of
electric-bike
riders.
D.The
cleanups
of
the
river
put
an
end
to
its
industrial
function.
四.七选五
There
are
some
children
who
love
to
fly
and
then
there
are
the
kids
who
are
afraid
of
the
unknown.
The
following
tips
may
help
you
if
you
want
to
travel
with
your
children
by
plane.
·__11__
If
you
tell
the
child
he
will
soon
be
flying
on
an
airplane
and
leave
it
at
that,
his
imagination
(想象力)
can
turn
to
fear.
Instead,
tell
him
how
wonderful
it
is
to
fly.
·Don’t
tell
children
about
the
dangers
of
flying.
__12__
And
you
can
promise
him
that
the
plane
will
not
crash
(坠毁).
·Read
a
book
to
your
children.
__13__
Reading
may
also
make
your
children
fall
asleep.
·Bring
a
comfort
thing
that
your
child
enjoys.
__14__
Be
sure
to
bring
that
blanket
(毯子)
along
as
it
will
provide
a
safety
net
for
the
child.
Having
this
blanket
along
may
also
help
him
fall
asleep.
Bring
a
safe
electronic
device
that
shows
movies
or
supports
video
games,
and
offers
children
puzzles.
·Bring
snacks.
Children
are
picky
eaters
and
may
not
like
the
food
being
offered.
Three
to
five
hours
can
be
a
long
time
on
an
airplane
without
food.
__15__
When
they
are
upset,
it
is
easier
to
let
fear
of
the
unknown
take
control.
A.Children
may
get
upset
when
they
are
hungry.
B.Tell
your
children
how
much
fun
it
is
to
fly
before
the
trip.
C.Most
kids
have
a
stuffed
animal
or
a
blanket
that
they
love.
D.If
a
child
brings
them
up,
tell
him
the
flying
is
perfectly
safe.
E.Leave
a
little
extra
time
so
you
can
make
your
children
walk.
F.Bring
a
favorite
book
and
a
new
book
your
kids
have
never
read.
G.Your
phone
is
another
favorite
tool
for
keeping
them
happy
on
a
flight.

I
was
ready
to

for
my

at
the

one
night,
when
fear
seized
me.
My
wallet
was
gone.
I
could
only
have
left
it
on
the
G9
bus,
which
was
now
speeding
in
the
dark
to
some
16
station.
The
17
moment
was
quickly
followed
by
mental
math.
How
much
time
and
money
would
it
cost
to
replace
the
18

that
little

The
credit
cards,
the
driver’s

the
cash,
all
lost
to
the

Two
hours
later,
back
at
my

I
heard
a
knock
on
the
door.
My
husband

it
while
I
was
on
the
phone
in
the
dining

“Does
Jennifer

here?”
I
heard
a
lady
say.
In
my
husband’s
hand
was
my
wallet,
with
not
a

She
left
before
I
could
21
make
it
to
the

to
offer
my

After
sharing
the
story
online,
I
heard
from
someone,
who
22
the
lady
as
Erin

Without

I
called
to
thank
her.
She
said
she
24
my

on
a
bus

She
25
that
going
to
a
stranger’s
house
was
a

but
she

to

“If
I

she
said.
This
one

responded
beautifully
to
my
small

but
she

Erin

my

words
with
those

they

I
read
that
people
are
more
divided
than
ever,
but
that’s
not
how
the
people
I

tend
to
act.
33
,
I

blessed
someone
had
wanted
to
help
a
stranger.
Erin
had
gone

what
almost
anyone
would
have
done,

a

and
for
