A
When
Tony
took
up
running
as
a
hobby
he
was
42
years
old.
Now
42
years
later
he's
a
national
champion
and
a
world
record
holder.
He
never
imagined
at
the
age
of
84
this
is
where
he'd
be,
but
then
he
doesn't
meet
many
people
in
their
80s
who
are
out
training
four
times
a
week.
"I
can
see
it's
a
bit
unusual,
yes.
But
it's
been
my
life,
"
he
told
the
reporter.
The
retired
officer
runs
at
a
track
near
his
home
in
Leeds.
At
an
event
in
Italy
last
month
he
set
a
world
record
in
the
80
metres
hurdles
(跨栏)with
a
time
of
under
17
seconds.
But
he
sees
no
reason
to
slow
down
and
his
ambition
is
still
to
be
competing
when
he
passes
a
hundred.
"I
probably
won't
be
doing
a
crouch
start
(蹲式起跑),but
it's
only
16
years
away,"
he
joked.
Like
anyone
his
age,
he's
had
health
problems.
He's
had
a
string
of
severe
heart
attacks,
but
doctors
have
told
him
as
long
as
it
makes
him
feel
good,
he
should
carry
on
running.
"I
can't
let
my
heart
get
in
the
way
of
my
training.
When
I
am
sprinting
I
have
to
give
it
my
absolute
all.
My
heart
is
the
last
thing
on
my
mind."
he
said.
He
trains
every
other
day,
dances
and
plays
hockey
and
he
recently
cuts
down
on
alcohol
and
chocolate.
He
said,
"I've
heard
alcohol
can
lead
to
dementia
and
I
don't
want
that.
I've
cut
down
to
one
glass
of
wine
every
other
day.
I
now
have
to
stay
as
fit
as
I
can
be
to
keep
up
my
lifestyle."
Tony's
next
birthday
is
next
September.
And
the
first
thing
he
wants
to
do
is
become
the
world's
fastest
85-year-old.

A
month
before
my
first
marathon,
one
of
my
ankles(脚踝)
was
badly
hurt
and
this
meant
not
running
for
two
weeks,
leaving
me
only
two
weeks
to
train.
Yet,
I
made
up
my
mind
to
go
ahead.
I
remember
back
to
my
7th
year
in
school.
In
my
first
P.E.
class,
the
teacher
demanded
us
to
run
laps
and
hit
a
softball.
I
didn’t
do
either
well.
He
later
informed
me
that
I
was
“not
athletic”.
The
idea
that
I
was
“not
athletic”
stuck
with
me
for
years.
When
I
started
running
in
my
30s,
I
realized
running
was
a
battle
against
myself,
not
about
competition
or
whether
or
not
I
was
athletic.
It
was
all
about
the
battle
against
my
own
body
and
mind.
A
test
of
wills!
The
night
before
my
marathon,
I
dreamt
that
I
couldn’t
even
find
the
finish
line.
I
woke
up
to
find
myself
drenched
in
sweat,feeling
butterflies
in
my
stomach,
but
ready
to
prove
something
to
myself.
Shortly
after
crossing
the
start
line,
my
shoe
laces
became
untied.
So
I
stopped
to
readjust,wasting
some
seconds
Not
the
start
I
wanted!
At
mile
3,
I
passed
a
sign:
“GO
FOR
IT,
RUNNERS!”
By
mile
17,
I
became
out
of
breath
and
the
once
hurt
ankle
suffered
utter
agony
severely.
Despite
the
pain,
I
stayed
the
course
walking
a
bit
and
then
running
again.
By
mile
21,
I
was
starving!
As
I
approached
mile
23,
I
could
see
my
wife
waving
a
sign.
She
is
my
biggest
fan.
She
never
minded
the
alarm
clock
sounding
at
4
a.m.
or
questioned
my
expenses
on
running.
I
was
one
of
the
final
runners
to
finish.
But
I
finished!
And
I
got
a
medal.
Actually,
I
got
the
same
medal
as
the
one
that
the
guy
who
came
in
first
place
had.
Thrilled
to
be
myself,
move
forward,
free
of
shame
and
worldly
labels(世俗标签),
I
can
now
call
myself
a
really
“marathon
winner”.

The

nine

from
a

They
consider
the

their

doctors
found
cancer
in
his
body
in
1988
and
told
him
he
only
had
about
six
months
to
live,
So
he
decided
to

pieces

gold,
jewels

other
valuables
in
a
bronze
box
and
leave
it
for
others
to
enjoy
after
he
was

give
people
something
to
look
forward
to
and
everyone
is
hopeful,
"
he

treasure,
Fenn

he
really
has
no
idea.
“It
is
possible
my
treasure
box
could
be
found
this
afternoon,

it
could
be
100
years

500
years.

七选五
Is
Fresh
Air
Really
Good
for
You?
  We
all
grew
up
hearing
people
tell
us
to
"go
out
and
get
some
fresh
air"
.
36
According
to
recent
studies,
the
answer
is
a
big
YES,
if
the
air
quality
in
your
camping
area
is
good.

37
If
the
air
you’re
breathing
is
clean

which
it
would
be
if
you’re
away
from
the
smog
of
cities

then
the
air
is
filled
with
life-giving,
energizing
oxygen(活性氧).
If
you
exercise
out
of
doors,
your
body
will
learn
to
breathe
more
deeply,
allowing
even
more
oxygen
to
get
to
your
muscles(肌肉)and
your
brain.
Recently,
people
have
begun
studying
the
connection
between
the
natural
world
and
healing(治愈).
38
In
these
places
patients
can
go
to
be
near
nature
during
their
recovery.
It
turns
out
that
just
looking
at
green,
growing
things
can
reduce
stress,
lower
blood
pressure,
and
put
people
into
a
better
mood(情绪).
Greenery
is
good
for
us.
Hospital
patients
who
see
tree
branches
out
their
window
are
likely
to
recover
at
a
faster
rate
than
patients
who
see
buildings
or
sky
instead.
39
It
gives
us
a
great
feeling
of
peace.

40
While
the
sun’s
rays
can
age
and
harm
our
skin,
they
also
give
us
beneficial
Vitamin
D.
To
make
sure
you
get
enough
Vitamin
D

but
still
protect
your
skin

put
on
sunscreen
right
as
you
head
outside.
It
takes
sunscreen
about
fifteen
minutes
to
start
working,
and
that’s
plenty
of
time
for
your
skin
to
absorb
a
day’s
worth
of
Vitamin
D.
  A.
Fresh
air
cleans
our
lungs.
  B.
So
what
are
you
waiting
for?
  C.
Being
in
nature
refreshes
us.
  D.
Another
side
benefit
of
getting
fresh
air
is
sunlight.
  E.
But
is
fresh
air
really
as
good
for
you
as
your
mother
always
said?
  F.
Just
as
importantly,
we
tend
to
associate
fresh
air
with
health
care.
G.
All
across
the
country,
recovery
centers
have
begun
building
Healing
Gardens.

No
one

a
winner.
People
make
themselves
into

I
learned
this
lesson
from
a(n)
17
many
years
ago.
I
took
the
head
18
job
at
a
school
in
Baxley,
Georgia.
It
was
a
small
school
with
a
weak
football
program.
It
was
a
tradition
for
the
school’s
old
team
to
play
against
the
19
team
at
the
end
of
spring
practice.
The
old
team
had
no
coach,
and
they
didn’t
even
practice
to
20
the
game.
Being
the
coach
of
the
new
team,
I
was
excited
because
I
knew
we
were
going
to
win,
but
to
my
disappointment
we
were
defeated.
I
couldn’t
21
I
had
got
into
such
a
situation.
Thinking
hard
about
it,
I
came
to
22
that
my
team
might
not
be
the
number
one
team
in
Georgia,
but
they
were
23
me.
I
had
to
change
my
24
about
their
ability
and
potential.
I
started
doing
anything
I
could
to
help
them
build
a
little
25
.
Most
important,
I
began
to
treat
them
like
26
.
That
summer,
When
the
other
teams
enjoyed
their
27

we

every
day
and
28
passing
and
kicking
the
football.
Six

after
suffering
our
29
on
the
spring
practice
field,
we
won
our
first
game
and
our
second,
and
continued
to
30
.
Finally,
we
faced
the
number
one
team
in
the
state.
I
felt
that
it
would
be
a
31
for
us
even
if
we
lost
the
game.
But
that
wasn’t
what
happened.
My
boys
beat
the
best
team
in
Georgia,
giving
me
one
of
the
greatest
32
of
my
life!
From
the
experience
I
learnt
a
lot
about
how
the
attitude
of
the
leader
can
33
the
members
of
a
team.
Instead
of
seeing
my
boys
as
losers,
I
pushed
and
34
them.
I
helped
them
to
see
themselves
35
,
and
they
built
themselves
into
winners.
Winners
are
made,
but
born.
