The
state
of
Israel
has
welcomed
the
opportunity
to
build
itself
as
a
startup(初创企业)nation.
But
how
did
Israel
show
its
strength
in
the
tech
market?
And
what
drove
this
region
to
become
a
software-centric
startup
nation
of
young
companies
competing
for
a
place
on
the
global
tech
map?
Part
of
the
answer
comes
down
to
the
local
mindset,
mentality(心态)and
morals-after
all,
the
country
is
well
used
to
fighting
for
its
place.
The
wider
answer
is
the
combination
of
resources
(largely
human,
not
natural
ones),
higher
education,
the
widespread
use
of
English
and
the
determined
attitude
to
overcome
problems
that
is
typical
of
the
local
culture.
“We
have
a
longstanding
tradition
of
turning
curses(诅咒)into
blessings,”
said
Jon
Medved,
CEO
of
OurCrowd,
a
Jerusalem-based
global
venture
investment
platform
organization.
“We
don’t
have
huge
natural
resources,
so
we
have
worked
hard
to
develop
our
skills-base
in
the
country.
There
is
a
certain
mentality
that
leans
towards
risk
acceptance
here….
and
people
develop
that
from
a
young
age.
In
my
view,
great
achievements
are
made
by
taking
lots
of
risks,
but
in
a
calculated
way
with
various
approaches
to
everything.”
Actually,
what
happens
next
will
be
interesting.
Israel
can’t
call
itself
a
startup
technology
nation
forever.
For
example,
more
and
more
of
these
tech
startups
will
need

One
day
when
I
was
12,
my
mother
gave
me
an
order:
I
was
to
walk
to
the
public
library,
and
borrow
at
least
one
book
for
the
summer.
This
was
one
more
weapon
for
her
to
defeat
my
strange
problem—inability
to
read.
In
the
library,
I
found
my
way
into
the
“Children’s
Room”.
I
sat
down
on
the
floor
and
pulled
a
few
books
off
the
shelf
at
random.
The
cover
of
a
book
caught
my
eye.
It
presented
a
picture
of
a
beagle.
I
had
recently
had
a
beagle,
the
first
and
only
animal
companion
I
ever
had
as
a
child.
He
was
my
“secret
sharer”,
but
one
morning,
he
was
gone,
given
away
to
someone
who
had
the
space
and
the
money
to
care
for
him.
I
never
forgot
my
beagle.
There
on
the
book’s
cover
was
a
beagle
which
looked
identical(相同的)
to
my
dog.
I
ran
my
fingers
over
the
picture
of
the
dog
on
the
cover.
My
eyes
ran
across
the
title,
Amos:
the
Beagle
with
a
Plan.
Unknowingly,
I
had
read
the
title.
Without
opening
the
book,
I
borrowed
it
from
the
library
for
the
summer.
Under
the
shade
of
a
brush,
I
started
to
read
about
Amos.
I
read
very,
very
slowly
with
difficulty.
Though
pages
were
turned
slowly,
I
got
the
main
idea
of
the
story
about
a
dog
who,
like
mine,
had
been
separated
from
his
family
and
who
finally
found
his
way
back
home.
That
dog
was
my
dog,
and
I
was
the
little
boy
in
the
book.
At
the
end
of
the
story,
my
mind
continued
the
final
scene
of
reunion,
on
and
on,
until
my
own
lost
dog
and
I
were,
in
my
mind,
running
together
My
mother’s
call
returned
me
to
the
real
world.
I
suddenly
realized
something:
I
had
read
a
book,
and
I
had
loved
reading
that
book.
Everyone
knew
I
could
not
read.
But
I
had
read
it.
Books
could
be
incredibly
wonderful
and
I
was
going
to
read
them.
I
never
told
my
mother
about
my
“miraculous(奇迹)”
experience
that
summer,
but
she
saw
a
slow
but
remarkable
improvement
in
my
classroom
performance
during
the
next
year.
And
years
later,
she
was
proud
that
her
son
had
read
thousands
of
books,
was
awarded
a
PhD
in
literature,
and
authored
his
own
books,
articles,
poetry
and
fiction.
The
power
of
the
words
has
held.

When
you
think
of
a
map,
is
north
on
the
top
or
the
bottom?
Usually,
maps
are
designed
with
north
on
top,though
when
we
think
about
it,
there
is
no
logical
reason
for
this
bias.
After
all,
there
is
no
up
or
down
in
space.
So
what
is
wrong
with
south,
east
or
west
being
on
the
top
of
the
map?
The
answer
is:nothing
at
all.
In
fact,
north-up
maps
only
became
the
norm
in
the
last
few
hundred
years.
Ancient
Egyptian
maps
had
south
at
the
top
because
the
Nile
River
flows
downhill
from
mountains
in
the
south
to
the
Mediterranean
Sea
in
the
north.
Mecca
was
to
the
south
of
most
early
Muslim
civilizations,
and
south-up
maps
were
designed
so
that
viewers
would
look
up
to
see
Mecca.
Medieval
Christian
maps
had
east
at
the
top,
as
they
believed
the
Garden
of
Eden
was
in
the
east.
The
only
early
maps
that
had
north
at
the
top
were
those
of
early
China
because
the
emperor
lived
in
the
north.
North
seems
to
have
settled
at
the
top
of
maps
during
the
16th
century,
largely
thanks
to
a
Flemish
mapmaker,
Mercator.
Mercator
was
a
great
admirer
of
an
early
Greek
mapmaker,
who,
for
reasons
now
unknown,
put
north
at
the
top
of
maps,
so
Mercator
did,
too.
When
Mercator
s
world
map
became
the
standard
map
to
navigate
the
oceans,
north
up
became
standard
as
well.
What
is
the
implication
of
this
north-view
of
the
world?
Psychologically,
people
tend
to
think
of
up
as
good
and
down
as
bad.
Just
think
of
words
and
phrases
like
“upmarket”,“upbeat”
and
“moving
up
in
the
world",
and
how
they
contrast
with
their
opposites.
Because
north
is
so
consistently
put
at
the
top
of
maps,
people
now
think
of
north
as
good,
too.
Several
attempts
have
been
made
in
recent
years
by
introducing
south-up
maps
to
the
market.
These
maps
not
only
give
us
a
chance
to
see
the
world
differently,
but
also
give
everyone
the
chance
to
see
themselves
on
top.
8.What
can
we
learn
from
the
first
two
paragraphs?
A.North-up
maps
were
rare
in
ancient
times.
B.Deciding
up
or
down
in
space
is
ridiculous.
C.Mecca
maps
were
based
on
a
legend.
D.The
south-up
map
first
appeared
in
ancient
Egypt.
9.Why
is
north
associated
with
good?
A.An
illogical
reason.
B.The
spread
of
Mercator'
s
maps.
C.People's
preference
for
up.
D.An
age-old
tradition
in
Greece.
10.What
is
the
authors
attitude
to
south-up
maps?
A.Cautious.
B.Supportive.
C.Uncaring.
D.Disapproving.
11.What's
the
main
purpose
of
the
text?
A.To
explain
a
phenomenon.
B.To
compare
various
facts.
C.To
correct
a
cultural
bias.
D.To
argue
for
a
viewpoint.
D
Hardware
in
general,
and
smartphones
in
particular,
have
become
a
huge
environmental
and
health
problem
in
the
Global
South'
s
landfill
sites(垃圾填埋场).
Electronic
waste(e-waste)
currently
takes
up
5
percent
of
all
global
waste,
and
it
is
set
to
increase
rapidly
as
more
of
us
own
more
than
one
smartphone,
laptop
and
power
bank.
They
end
up
in
places
like
Agbogbloshie
on
the
outskirts
of
Ghana's
capital,
Accra.
It
is
the
biggest
e-waste
dump
in
the
world,
where
10,000
informal
workers
walk
through
tons
of
abandoned
goods
as
part
of
an
informal
recycling
process.
They
risk
their
health
searching
for
the
precious
metals
that
are
found
in
abandoned
smartphones.
But
Agbogbloshie
should
not
exist.
The
Basel
Convention,
a
1989
treaty
aims
to
prevent
developed
nations
from
unauthorized
dumping
of
e-waste
in
less
developed
countries.
The
E-waste
industry,
however,
circumvents
the
regulations
by
exporting
e-waste
labelled
as
“secondhand
goods”
to
poor
countries
like
Ghana,
knowing
full
well
that
it
is
heading
for
a
landfill
site.
A
recent
report
found
Agbogbloshie
contained
some
of
the
most
dangerous
chemicals.
This
is
not
surprising:
smartphones
contain
chemicals
like
mercury(水银),
lead
and
even
arsenic
(砷
)
Reportedly,
one
egg
from
a
free-range
chicken
in
Agbogbloshie
contained
a
certain
chemical
which
can
cause
cancer
and
damage
the
immune
system
at
a
level
that's
about
220
times
greater
than
a
limit
set
by
the
European
Food
Safety
Authority(EFSA),
Most
worryingly,
these
poisonous
chemicals
are
free
to
pollute
the
broader
soil
and
water
system.
This
should
concern
us
all,
since
some
of
Ghana's
top
exports
are
cocoa
and
nuts.
Some
governments
have
started
to
take
responsibility
for
their
consumers'
waste.
For
example,
Germany
has
started
a
project
that
includes
a
sustainable
recycling
system
at
Agbogbloshie,
along
with
a
health
clinic
for
workers.
However,
governments
cannot
solve
the
problem
alone,
as
there
is
am
almost
limitless
consumer
demand
for
hardware,
especially
when
governments’
green
policies
are
focused
on
issues
like
climate
change.
Only
the
manufacturers
can
fix
this.
A
more
economically
sustainable
and
politically
possible
solution
is
through
encouraging
hardware
manufacturers
to
make
the
repair,
reuse
and
recycling
of
hardware
profitable,
or
at
least
cost-neutral.
12.What
can
we
infer
from
paragraph2?
A.Electronic
products
need
improving
urgently.
B.Electronic
waste
is
too
complex
to
get
fully
recycled.
C.Electronic
waste
requires
more
landfill
sites
across
Ghana.
D.Electronic
pollution
is
a
burning
question
in
Agbogbloshie.
13.What
does
the
underlined
word"circumvents"
in
paragraph
3
mean?
A.Tightens
B.Abolishes
C.Avoids
D.Follows
14.What
should
be
the
biggest
concern
according
to
the
text?
A.The
violation
of
EFSA’s
standard
B.The
lack
of
diversity
in
Ghana
s
exports.
C.The
damage
to
chickens
immune
system
D.The
threat
of
polluted
food
around
the
world
15.What
does
the
author
think
is
the
best
solution
to
the
e-waste
problem?
A.Manufacturers'
developing
a
sustainable
hardware
economy.
B.Governments'
adjusting
their
green
policies
about
e-waste.
C.Reducing
customers'
demands
for
electronic
products.
D.Letting
governments
take
on
the
main
responsibility.

【分析】
本文是一篇说明文。文章主要列出了去澳门塔AJ
Hackett蹦极、吃一顿传统的葡萄牙晚餐、参观博物馆、在圣保罗废墟自拍这四件在澳门值得做的事情。
【1题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段的If
you
are
not
daring
enough
to
jump
that
height,
you
can
try
the
skywalk
on
the
57th
floor
-
it's
still
remarkable.(如果你没有足够的勇气跳那么高,你可以尝试一下57层的空中步道)可知,此处并未提及空中步道的高度,且233米是AJ
Hackett澳门塔蹦极的高度,由此可知,关于澳门塔D项是不正确的,故选D。
【2题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段的However,
after
three
fires
in
1595,
1601
and
1835,
the

seriously
damaged.(然而,在1595年、1601年和1835年的三场火灾之后,这座教堂遭到了严重的破坏。)可知,圣保罗废墟经历了几次火灾,故选B。
【3题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文以及文章的四个小标题可知,文章主要列出了去澳门塔AJ
Hackett蹦极、吃一顿传统的葡萄牙晚餐、参观博物馆、在圣保罗废墟自拍这四件在澳门值得做的事情,故由此可知,C项(澳门不能错过的东西)可以概括本文的标题,故选C。
【点睛】做细节理解题时要注意判断正误这一类题型,选项中极易出现干扰选项,干扰项的特征主要有:
(1)张冠李戴。是原文信息,但不是题目要求的内容。
(2)无中生有。符合常识,但不是文章的内容。
(3)曲解文意。与原文的内容极其相似,只是在某个细节处有些变动。
(4)颠倒是非。在意思上与原文大相径庭甚至完全相反。
(5)正误参半。部分正确,部分错误。
本题中的第一小题的正确选项就具有张冠李戴的特征,文中并未提及空中步道的高度,却把AJ
Hackett澳门塔蹦极的高度233米说成了空中步道的高度。
【答案解析】

I
had
recently
had
a

only
animal
companion
I
ever

a
child.可知此本书引起作者注意的原因。选A。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段That
dog
was
my
dog,
and
I
was
the
little
boy
in
the
book.
At
the
end
of
the

【7题详解】
主旨大意题。本文讲述了自己从一个不愿意读书的孩子逼着去图书馆借书,结果因为看到了一本书,这本书介绍了与自己丢失的狗相似的狗,最终成为了一名作家,充分说明了书的魅力,故选D。
【分析】
这是一篇议论文,介绍了古代地图的顶部是不同的方向,但是现在地图一般都是北在上的,所以人们认为北方是好的。而南在上的地图不仅让我们有机会从不同角度看世界,也让每个人有机会看到自己处于顶峰。
8.A
细节理解题。由文章第二段“Ancient

9.C细节理解题。由文章第四段“What
is
the
implication
of
this
north-view
of
the
world?
Psychologically,
people
tend
to
think
of
up
as
good
and
down
as
bad.
(这个世界向北的观点意味着什么?心理上,人们倾向于认为向上是好的,向下是坏的。)”可知,为什么北方和好有关是因为人们对向上的偏好。故选C项。
10.B推理判断题。由文章最后一段“Several
attempts
have
been
made
in
recent
years
by
introducing
south-up
maps
to
the
market.
These
maps
not
only
give
us
a

see
the

differently,
but
also
give
everyone
the
chance
to
see
themselves
on
top.(近年来,通过将南向地图引入市场,已经进行了几次尝试。这些地图不仅让我们有机会从不同的角度看世界,也让每个人都有机会看到自己处于顶峰。)”可知,南在上的地图不仅让我们有机会从不同角度看世界,也让每个人有机会看到自己处于顶峰,可以让我们从另一个角度看待世界和自己,所以作者对南在上的地图是支持的,肯定的。故选B项。
11.D推理判断题。由文章最后一段“Several
attempts
have
been
made
in
recent
years
by
introducing
south-up
maps
to
the
market.
These
maps
not
only
give

differently,
but
also
give
everyone
the
chance
to
see
themselves
on
top.(近年来,已经进行了几次尝试将南向地图引入市场。这些地图不仅让我们有机会从不同的角度看世界,也让每个人都有机会看到自己处于顶峰。)”可知,作者知道现在大多数地图都是北向上的,但是他认为南向上的地图也是有好处的,希望南向上的地图可以让人们从另一个角度看待世界和自己,可推知作者写这篇文章的目的是支持这个观点,南向上的地图可以让我们多一个角度看世界。故选D项。
【分析】
本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了电子垃圾虽被掩埋在欠发达国家,但已成为危害全人类的公敌,因此政府和制造商都应该努力减少电子垃圾污染。
12.D推理判断题。根据第二段“They
end
up
in
places
like
Agbogbloshie
on
the
outskirts
of
Ghana's
capital,
Accra.
It
is
the
biggest
e-waste
dump
in
the
world(他们最后到了加纳首都Accra郊区的Agbogbloshie这样的地方。它是世界上最大的电子垃圾场)”可推知,作为世界最大的电子垃圾场,Agbogbloshie地区的电子污染是一个热点问题。故选D项。
13.C词句猜测题。根据“The
Basel
Convention,
a
1989
treaty
aims
to
prevent
developed
nations
from
unauthorized
dumping
of
e-waste
in
less
developed
countries.(巴塞尔公约是1989年的一项条约,旨在防止发达国家未经授权向欠发达国家倾倒电子废物)”以及“The
E-waste
industry,
however,
circumvents
the
regulations
by
exporting
e-waste
labelled
as
“secondhand
goods”
to
poor
countries
like
Ghana(然而,电子垃圾行业却circumvents了监管规定,将贴着“二手货”标签的电子垃圾出口到加纳等贫穷国家)”可知,在公约不允许发达国家未经授权向欠发达国家倾倒电子废物的禁令下,将贴着“二手货”标签的电子垃圾出口到加纳等贫穷国家的这种行为,实际上是为了绕过公约约束,规避监管。A.
Tightens使变紧;B.
Abolishes废除;C.
Avoids避免;D.
Follows跟随。故选C项。
14.D推理判断题。根据第四段“Most
worryingly,
these
poisonous
chemicals
are
free
to
pollute
the
broader
soil
and
water
system.
This
should
concern
us
all,
since
some
of
Ghana's
top
exports
are
cocoa
and
nuts.(最令人担忧的是,这些有毒化学物质不受控制地污染更广泛的土壤和水系统。这应该引起我们所有人的关注,因为加纳最大的出口商品是可可和坚果。)”可知,因为受污染的土壤和水系统,对外大量出口的加纳可可和坚果,会使全球范围内都受到被污染食物的威胁。故选D项。
15.A细节理解题。根据最后一段“Only
the
manufacturers
can
fix
this.
A
more
economically
sustainable
and
politically
possible
solution
is
through
encouraging
hardware
manufacturers
to
make
the

recycling
of
hardware
profitable,
or
at
least
cost-neutral.(只有制造商才能解决这个问题。一个更具经济可持续性和政治上可行的解决方案是鼓励硬件制造商使硬件的修理、再利用和再循环变得有利可图,或者至少不增加费用)”可知,作者认为解决电子垃圾问题的关键在于硬件生产商,他们应该遵守可持续发展的原则,生产便于维修以及可回收利用的电子产品。故选A项。

There’s
this
boy
in
my
band,
Spanish
and
math
class.
His
name
was
Nathan.
I
never
really
liked
him
since
he
was
a
slowpoke.
He
didn’t
have
any
friends
at
all.
He
always
sat
alone
at
the
lunch
table
with
his
phone
listening
to
music.
People
just
walked
past
him
without
caring.
And
in
class
whenever
he
was
asked
a
question,
he
would
take
a
long
time
to
answer
it.
The
whole
class
would
get
annoyed
and
whenever
he
got
an
answer
wrong,
the
whole
class
would
laugh.
I
didn’t
know
why
but
I
didn’t
care
enough
to
know.
On
Nov.
17,
I
walked
into
band
class
and
was
ready
to
play
my
flute.
Mr.
Kohler
began
the
class.
We
played
music
for
a
little
while
then
he
asked
us
to
tune
our
instruments.
I
saw
Nathan,
he
was
just
walking
around
like
usual
looking
for
something.
There
is
nothing
surprising
about
that,
he
does
that
in
every
class.
He
doesn’t
just
sit
the
whole
class
period,
he
walks
around
looking
for
Kleenex
or
a
new
reed
for
his
instrument.
He
plays
clarinet
单簧管)
by
the
way.
So
then
Mr
Kohler
asked
the
class
to
tell
what
note
it
was
just
by
hearing
the
pitch
(音高).Nobody
raised
their
hand
except
for
Nathan.
The
moment
I
saw
him,
I
laughed
but
not
out
loud.
I
thought
he
couldn’t
do
anything
properly.
How
could
he
possibly
guess
the
note
when
the
pitch
is
played?
But
he
could.
He
guessed
every
pitch
right,
even
when
Mr.
Kohler
played
2
and
3
pitches
at
the
same
time.
At
that
moment
I
got
goosebumps.
How
did
he
do
that?
That
day
I
realized
that
I
shouldn’t
judge
people
based
on
the
little
things
I
see.
I
need
to
see
the
great
things
people
can
do.
From
that
day
on
I
had
a
different
opinion
on
Nathan.
I
forgot
about
all
the
things
he
was
bad
at
and
focused
on
the
things
he
was
good
at.
Whenever
I
saw
him,
I
just
said
to
myself,
“that’s
the
guy
who
impressed
me.
That’s

Breakdancing
is
set
to

its
debut
(首次亮相)
as
an
Olympic
sport
at
Paris
2024,
Tony
Estanguet,
head
of
the
Paris
organizing
committee,
said
on
February
21st.
Skateboarding,
sport
climbing
and
surfing,
which
have
already
been
added
to
the
programme
for
the
2020
Tokyo
Olympics,
have
been
invited
to
return
in
Paris
four
years
later.
?Tony
Estanguet
said
the
choices
responded
to
a
need
to
make
the
Olympics
"more
urban"
and
"more
artistic".
We
have
chosen
to
present
the
International
Olympic
Committee
(IOC)
with
the
four
sports
because
they
are
creative,
appealing
to
youth
and
completely
in
line
with
our
vision.
They
reflect
perfectly
Paris
2024's
identity.
?Breakdancing
is
an
example
of
a
sport
"which
can
be
played
anywhere
and
anytime
in
urban
and
other
environment."
It
appeared
at
the
2018
Youth
Olympics
in
Buenos
Aires
in
the
form
of
head-to-head
"battles".
In
competitive
breakdancing,
"breakers"
face
off
in
"battles"
against
each
other,
either
as
individuals
or
teams.
Breakdancers
use
a
mix
of
physical
and
artistic
skills
combining
elements
from
gymnastics
or
acrobatics
(杂技).
?The
IOC
had
announced
that
the
number
of
competitors
at
Paris
2024
would
be
restricted
to
10,
500,
which
limited
the
opportunity
to
add
sports.
But
the
organizers
said
the
inclusion
of
the
four
sports
in
Paris
would
not
necessitate
the
construction
of
permanent
facilities
and
would
involve
just
248
competitors,
of
which
32
would
be
in
breakdancing.
The
surfing
events
are
likely
to
be
held
in
established
surf
centres
such
as
Biarritz
or
Lacanau
in
southwest
France.
?The
inclusion
still
need
to
be?rubberstamped?by
the
IOC,
which
is
expected
to
decide
on
which
sports
to
add
in
Paris
after
next
years'
Tokyo
Games.

C.
It
will
show
up
in

2024.
D.

The
cancer
death
rate
in
the
U.S.
fell
by
the
most
on
record
as
advances
in
treatments
for
lung
tumors
(肿瘤)
like
video-assisted
surgery
helped
prolong
the
lives
of
patients.
The
death
rate
from
cancer
has
been
gradually
declining
for
26
years,
thanks
in
large
part
to
fewer
people
smoking
cigarettes.
But
from
2019
to
2020,
the
most
recent
period
available,
it
dropped
by
2.2%,
the
most
ever
in
a
single
year,
according
to
a
report
released
Wednesday
by
the
American
Cancer
Society.
That
compares
with
an
average
1.5%
yearly
decline
over
the
decade.
The
drop
translates
to
roughly
2.9
million
fewer
cancer
deaths
than
what
would
have
occurred
had
death
rates
remained
at
their
peak.
For
lung
cancer
specifically,
the
death
rate
declined
4.3%
annually
from
2013
to
2017.
“It
is
really
lung
cancer
that
is
driving
this,”
said
Rebecca
Siegel,
scientific
director
of
research
at
the
American
Cancer
Society,
and
lead
author
on
the
new
study.
“We
found
increases
in
survival
for
lung
cancer
at
every
stage
in
diagnosis.”
She
attributed
the
lower
deaths
to
improvements
in
treatments,
including
video-assisted
surgery
that
enables
more
patients
with
early
lung
tumors
to
become
eligible
(合适的)
for
operations;
more
precise
radiation
treatment;
and
better
scanning
technology
that
allows
doctors
to
better
assess
the
stage
of
tumor,
so
the
patient
gets
the
best
treatment
right
away.
At
later
stages
of
illness,
new,
targeted
drugs
that
aim
at
specific
disease-causing
genes
are
helping
patients
whose
tumors
have
those
genetic
flaws
(缺陷).
Overall,
lung
cancer
death
rates
have
dropped
by
51%
for
men
since
their
peak
in
1990,
and
by
26%
for
women
since
their
peak
in
2002.
There’s
the
potential
for
more
progress
in
future
reports.
That’s
because
the
latest
death-rate
statistics
go
only
through
2020,
and
likely
don’t
include
the
potential
impact
in
lung
cancer
death
from
immune-therapy
drugs.
They
became
widely
used
in
lung
cancer
only
in
the
past
few
years.
The
report,
based
on
U.S.
government
data,
isn’t
all
good
news.
Prostate
(前列腺)
cancer
death
rates
have
leveled
off
recently
after
a
period
of
decline.
That
may
be
because
many
doctors
pulled
back
on
using
the
controversial
prostate-specific
antigen
test,
or
PSA,
which
can
spot
the
disease
but
can
lead
to
over-treatment
of
men
who
may
never
have
died
from
their
tumors.
“Though
it
was
definitely
causing
harm,
it
was
also
contributing
to

With
its
wonderful
coastline
and
many
historic
sites,
Croatia
is
the
ideal
destination
for
the
family
wishing
to
combine
beach
with
a
bit
of
culture.
BEST
TIME
TO
GO
High
season
for
Croatia
is
from
July
to
August
but
the
Croatian
coast
is
wonderful
from
spring
on.
Swimming
is
generally
possible
from
May
to
September
when
the
sea
is
still
around
23°C.
But
if
you
arrive
in
April,
you
may
enjoy
Carnival
in
Rijeka.
COST
Croatia
is
still
reasonably
inexpensive
as
a
Mediterranean
destination,
but
prices
go
up
in
July
and
August.
Privately-run
rooms
are
also
often
a
better
bet
than
hotels,
which
tend
to
be
unfriendly.
If
you
haven’t
made
a
reservation,
the
local
tourist
offices
or
travel
agencies
will
be
able
to
help.
There
is
usually
a
30%
discount
for
stays
longer
than
three
nights.
The
agencies
offer
a
very
reasonable
deal
on
a
flight
plus
car
hire.
GETTING
AROUND
Croatia
is
a
small
country;
it
only
takes
a
few
hours
at
most
to
travel
from
one
region
to
another.
It
might
be
worth
staying
in
one
place
for
the
whole
holiday
and
doing
day
trips.
The
buses,
rather
than
the
trains,
reach
the
places
of
great
distance.
21.
When
is
Croatia
most
visited?
A.
In
May.
B.
In
September.
C.
In
July.
D.
In
April.
22.
Which
is
true
about
local
travel
agencies?
A.
They
tend
to
be
unfriendly.

They
offer
a
30%
discount.
C.They
charge
a
little
more
in
winter.
D.
They
arrange
flight
plus
car
hire
at
good
price.
23.
Where
is
the
text
probably
from?
A.
A
book
review.
B.
A
science
report.
C.
A

B.
Goodenough,
an
engineering
professor
from
the
University
of
Texas
at
Austin(UT-Austin),
won
the
2019
Nobel
Prize
for
Chemistry
for
his
work
on
developing
lithium-ion
batteries
(锂电池).
He
was
the
oldest
person
to
win
a
Nobel
Prize.
Goodenough,
who
was
born
in
1922,
identified
and
developed
the
key
materials
that
can
power
portable
electronics,
leading
to
the
wireless
revolution.
Today,
batteries
using
Goodenough’s
inventions
are
used
worldwide
for
mobile
phones,
power
tools,
laptops,
tablets
and
other
wireless
devices,
as
well
as
electric
vehicles.
Goodenough
received
a
bachelor’s
degree
in
mathematics
from
Yale
University
at
21
and
a
doctor’s
degree
in
physics
from
the
University
of
Chicago
when
he
was
30.
He
beat
the
odds
against
him,
first
overcoming
dyslexia
(阅读困难症)
as
a
child,
and
then
the
claim
of
a
teacher
who
told
him
in
his
20s
that
he
had
started
too
late
to
be
successful
in
physics.
He
began
his
career
in
1952
at
Lincoln
Laboratory
at
the
Massachusetts
Institute
of
Technology
(MIT),
where
he
laid
the
groundwork
for
the
development
of
random-access
memory
(RAM)
for
the
digital
computer.
After
MIT,
Goodenough
became
a
professor
and
head
of
the
Inorganic
Chemistry
Laboratory
at
the
University
of
Oxford,
where
in
1979
he
discovered
it
would
be
possible
to
store
energy
in
rechargeable
batteries
through
lithium
cobalt
oxide
(锂钴氧化物).
That
discovery
helped
develop
the
lithium-ion
battery.
Goodenough
joined
UT-Austin
in
1986,
where
his
groundbreaking
work
continued.
At
98
years
old,
he
still
continues
to
push
the
boundaries
of
materials
science.
In
spite
of
the
lithium-ion
battery
being
well-developed
and
available
as
a
commercial
product,
it
has
its
limitations.
It
can’t
be
charged
too
fast
or
overcharged.
Goodenough
still
wants
to
see
some
new
developments.
“I
hope
UT-Austin
still
keeps
me
employed,”
Goodenough
once
joked.

An
National
Health
Service
(NHS)
study
shows
that
after
a
five-day
training
course,
nurses
and
psychology
(心理学)
graduates
can
treat
depression
as
well
as
expert
therapists
(治疗专家).
A
cheap
talking
therapy,
known
as
behavioural
activation
(BA),
was
just
as
effective
as
the
gold-standard
treatment,
cognitive
behavioural
therapy
(CBT)
(认知行为疗法),
in
easing
even
serious
depression.
David
Richards,
professor
of
mental
health
services
research
at
the
University
of
Exeter,
who
led
the
study,
said,
“Our
findings
challenge
the
advantage
of
CBT,
the
leading
evidence-based
psychological
therapy
for
depression.
BA
should
be
a
frontline
treatment
for
depression
in
the
UK.”
The
NHS
is
attempting
to

talking
therapy
to

plan
to
improve
mental
health
care,
and
bosses

BA
aims
to
help
people
with
depression
by
changing
how
they
act,
encouraging
them
to
deal
with
problems
through
more
positive
activities
and
avoiding
ones
that
make
the
problem
worse.
CBT
encourages
people
to

to
avoid
negative
beliefs.
The
study
offered
440
patients
either
CBT
or
BA,
and
a
year

two
thirds
of
both
groups
said
that
symptoms
were
less
than
half
as
bad
as
they
had
been.
In
the
NHS,
BA
is
likely
to
be
offered
by
either
nurses
or
psychology
graduates
with
some
mental
health
experience.
Liz
England,
of
the
Royal
College
of
GPs,
said,
“Anything
that
makes
it
easier
for
our
patients
to
get
psychological
therapies
is
something
to
be
welcomed.”
32.
What
is
the
advantage
of
BA
over
CBT?
A.
It’s
cheaper.
B.
It’s
more
effective.
C.
It’s
a

therapy.
D.
It’s
a
gold-standard
therapy.
33.
How
does
BA
help
people
with
depression?
A.
By
changing
their
behaviour.
B.
By
challenging
their
thoughts.
C.
By
avoiding
negative
beliefs.
D.
By
offering
evidence-based
therapy.
34.
Who
is
likely
to
offer
behavioural
activation
in
NHS?
A.
Those
who
work
for
NHS.
B.
A
student
who
majors
in
psychology.
C.
A
nurse
who
has
received
the

What’s
Liz’s
attitude
towards
behavioural
activation?
A.
Puzzled.

A
wildfire
is
a
fire
that
burns
strongly
and
out
of
control
in
the
wild.
Wildfires
are
becoming
even
more
powerful
and
harmful
over
time.
That
is
in
part
because
of
climate
change.
Hotter
temperatures
and
drier
forests
are
helping
to
cause
wildfires.
The
fires
start
from
natural
causes,likelightning.
Humans
can
start
fires
with
cigarettes
or
campfires,accidentally.
Sometimes,people
can
set
fires
on
purpose.This
is
to
help
an
ecosystem
and
those
that
livethere.
For
thousands
of
years,humans
have
set
fires
on
purpose.
Fire
does
put
living
things
indanger,but
this
happens
naturally,Over
time,ecosystems
have
adapted
to
the
benefits
from
regular
fires,
because
fires
clear
out
dead
material.
Some
plant
and
animal
populations
actually
need
fire
to
survive
and
reproduce.
The
fires
help
encourage
healthy
ecosystems.
Of
course,
these
are
controlled
burns.
Modern
fire
experts
now
know
how
to
set
controlled
burns
that
are
well
planned
and
safe.
Why
is
fire
necessary?
As
dead
or
decaying(腐朽的)
plants
begin
to
build
up
on
the
ground,they
may
prevent
organisms
in
the
soil
from
getting
nutrients(养分).They
may
keep
animals
onthe
land
from
getting
to
the
soil.
This
coating
of
dead
matter
can
also
choke
the
growth
of
smaller
or
new
plants.
Fire
removes
that
layer
of
decay.
The
soil
gets
nutrients
from
the
burned
material
faster
than
if
it
had
slowly
over
time.
This
allows
healthy
parts
of
the
ecosystem
to
grow
stronger
and
stronger.
Some
plants
actually
need
fire
to
continue
their
life
cycles.Seeds
from
some
pine
trees
grow
inpine
cones
that
are
covered
in
a
thick
sap(汁液).
The
seeds
release
from
the
pine
cones
when
firemelts
the
sap.
Fires
allow
more
seeds
to
get
to
the
soil
and
grow.
The
healthier
plant
populations
after
a
fire
can
help
animals,
too
Animals
that
live
in
nine
trees
benefit
from
more
growing
trees.
Plant
growth
provides
the
food
sources
of
animals.
Humans
should
prevent
most
uncontrolled
damaging
wildfires.
But
trying
to
prevent
all
fires
might
make
matters
worse.
Understanding
the
benefits
of
fire
is
the
only
way
to
truly
keep
our
ecosystem
safe
from
its
dangers.
28.What

the
main
idea
of

The
causes
of
wildfires.
B.
The
effects
of
wildfires.
C.
The
functions
of
wildfires.
D.
The
characteristics
of
wildfires.
29.
Why
do
humans
set
controlled
burns
purposely?
A.
To
scare
dangerous
animals
away.
B.
To
encourage
healthy
ecosystem.
C.
To
offer
nutrients
to
the
animals.
D.
To
control
plant
and
animal
populations.
30.
What
can
we
learn
from
the
last
two
paragraphs?
A.
Humans
should
prevent
all
wildfires.
B.
Plant
growth
cuts
down
the
food
sources
of
animals.
C.
Humans
are
permitted
to
set
forests
on
fire
anytime
by
law.
D.
Without
fires,
it
would
be
difficult
for
seeds
in
pine
cones
to
release.
