When Martin Luther King was killed, Robert Allen was eating with his parents. They felt completely shocked! And they finished the rest of the dinner in silence.
When the World Trade Center was taken down by terrorists, Kate Smith was working near the two towers. At first, she disbelieved. After looking out of the window, she realized it was true and had trouble thinking clearly.
Both of the events have special meaning to most Americans.
Critical Thinking
There is a special day for him, Martin Luther King Day, which was held on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of the influential (有影响力的)American civil rights leader.
America is a typical “Melting Pot” where everyone has an “American Dream”. But some like black people were not treated equally. Martin Luther King is most well-known for his contributions to racial equality (种族平等). So his death shocked many people.
World Trade Center, the two towers, is a famous landmark building in N.Y. City, and also one of the tallest buildings in the world. The style is pretty special. It was designed originally for the idea of “Love, Joy, Calmness, and Hope”. However, it was tragically (惨烈的) destroyed by terrorists, which made Americans extremely scared.
Now, there is a memorial museum in honor of the tragedy and people died in the attack.
