the
Big
Apple?
I
can
hardly
wait.
W:
The
Big
Apple?
We’re
not
heading
to
the
Big
Apple.
M:
The
Big
Apple
is
another
name
for
New
York
City.
You
are
going
to
New
York
with
us,
aren’t
you?
W:
Yes,
that’s
true.
⑩I’m
especially
looking
forward
to
seeing
the
Museum
of
Modern
Art.
There’s
a
special
show
of
20th
century
American
paintings
there.
But
tell
me,
where
does
the

the
Big

from?
M:?The
jazz
musicians
of
the
1920s
are
responsible
for
the

of
concerts
in
those
days.
Every
time
they
gave
a
concert
in
a
city,
they
called
that
city
an
apple.
Of
course,
New
York
was
the
biggest
city
in
our
country,
and
the
best
place
for
a
jazz
concert.
So
the
musicians
called
it
the
Big
Apple.

York

fascinating
place.

  Beverly
Cleary
has
sold
85
million
copies
of
41
books
and

if
those
numbers
weren’t
impressive
enough

she
turns
100
on
Tuesday.
Though
the
world
was
a
very
different
place
when
Cleary
was
a
child,
she
has
always
maintained
that
kids
pretty
much
stay
the
same

which
explains
the
ongoing
popularity
of
her
beloved
characters,
like
Ramona
Quimby,
Henry
Huggins
and
Ralph
S.
Mouse.
  Cleary
was
in
her
early
30s
and
working
part
time
in
a
bookstore
when
she
sat
down
at
a
typewriter
to
see
if
just
maybe
she
could
write
a
book
for
kids.
She
had
worked
as
a
librarian
before
World
War
Ⅱ,
and
she
wished
she’d
had
books
for
young
readers
about
children
living
everyday
lives.
  “I
think
children
want
to
read
about
normal,
everyday
kids,

she
told
NPR
in
1999.
“That’s
what
I
wanted
to
read
about
when
I
was
growing
up.
I
wanted
to
read
about
the
sort
of
boys
and
girls
that
I
knew
in
my
neighborhood
and
in
my
school
.
.
.
I
think
children
like
to
find
themselves
in
books.

  Her
first
book,
Henry
Huggins,
came
out
in
1950.
Henry
had
a
friend
named
Beezus,
and
Beezus
had
a
mischievous(爱恶作剧的)
but
lovable
little
sister
named
Ramona.
Over
the
next
five
decades,
Cleary
took
Ramona
all
the
way
from
nursery
school
(托儿所)to
the
fourth
grade.
Cleary
says
when
she
was
writing
Ramona,
she
took
inspiration(灵感)
from
a
little
girl
who
lived
in
the
house
behind
her
as
a
child.
  Her
books
have
hooked
generations(几代)
of
children,
including
a
young
Jeff
Kinney,
who
grew
up
to
become
the
author
of
the
“Diary
of
a
Wimpy
Kid”
series.
  “I
must
have
been
about
8
or
9
years
old
when
I
first
read
Beverly
Cleary,

Kinney
recalls.
“The
book
that
really
grabbed
me
was
Ramona
Quimby,
Age
8.
She
looked
feral.
I
needed
to
get
to
know
this
character.

  “Most
kids
have
parents,
teachers,
bullies

we
all
experience
these
things,
”Kinney
says.
“And
Beverly
Cleary
tapped
into
that.
Her
work
is
still
as
relevant
today
as
when
it
first
came
out.

  Now,
generations
of
children
have
been
fortunate
enough
to
enjoy
her
stories
of
Klickitat
Street.
24.
What
can
we
infer
about
Beverly
Cleary’s
works?
A.
They
are
about
adults’
ordinary
lives.
B.
They
interest
and
delight
young
readers.
C.
They
receive
much
criticism
from
other
writers.
D.
They
are
based
on
Cleary’s
childhood
experiences.
25.
What
gave
Cleary
inspiration
for
Ramona’s
stories?
A.
A
neighborhood
girl.
B.
Her

  Have

Can
you
imagine
heading
to
Macy’s
to
treat
yourself
to
a
block
of
ice?
  Putting
ice
in
your
drink
started
to
become
somewhat
of
a
fashion(时尚)
trend
for
the
wealthy
in
Britain.
Some
would
put
a
few
cubes
in
their
champagne
and
sip
on
their
chilled
drinks
at
high-class
parties.
But,
like
with
any
fashion
trend,
it
eventually
faded,
mainly
because
the
ice
was
just
too
expensive.
And
even
once
iceboxes
began
appearing
in
homes
in
Britain
as
well,
Brits
never
took
a
liking
to
ice
in
their
drinks.
  So,
next
time
you
travel
overseas,
don’t
feel
offended(冒犯)
when
your
server
gives
you
an
eye
roll
when
you
ask
for
ice
water.

  As
Internet
users
become
more
dependent
on
the
Internet
to
store
information,
are
people
remembering
less?
If
you
know
your
computer
will
save
information,
why
store
it
in
your
own
personal
memory,
your
brain?
Experts
are
wondering
if
the
Internet
is
changing
what
we
remember
and
how.
  In
a
recent
study,
Professor
Betsy
Sparrow
conducted
some
experiments.
She
and
her
research
team
wanted
to
know
the
Internet
is
changing
memory.
In
the
first
experiment,
they
gave
people
40
unimportant
facts
to
type
into
a
computer.
The
first
group
of
people
understood
that
the
computer
would
save
the
information.
The
second
group
understood
that
the
computer
would
not
save
it.
Later,
the
second
group
remembered
the
information
better.
People
in
the
first
group
knew
they
could
find
the
information
again,
so
they
did
not
try
to
remember
it.
  In
another
experiment,
the
researchers
gave
people
facts
to
remember,
and
told
them
where
to
find
the
information
on
the
Internet.
The
information
was
in
a
specific
computer
folder
(文件夹).
Surprisingly,
people
later
remember
the
folder
location
(位置)
better
than
the
facts.
When
people
use
the
Internet,
they
do
not
remember
the
information.
Rather,
they
remember
how
to
find
it.
This
is
called
“transactive
memory
(交互记忆)”.
  According
to
Sparrow,
we
are
not
becoming
people
with
poor
memories
as
a
result
of
the
Internet.
Instead,
computer
users
are
developing
stronger
transactive
memories;
that
is,
people
are
learning
how
to
organize
huge
quantities
of
information
so
that
they
are
able
to
access
it
at
a
later
date.
This
doesn’t
mean
we
are
becoming
either
more
or
less
intelligent,
but
there
is
no
doubt
that
the
way
we
use
memory
is
changing.
32.
The
passage
begins
with
two
questions
to
________.
?
A.
introduce
the
main
topic
B.
show
the
author’s
attitude
C.
describe
how
to
use
the
Internet
D.
explain
how
to
store
information
33.
What
can
we
learn
about
the
first
experiment?
A.
Sparrow’s
team
typed
the
information
into
a
computer.
B.
The
two
groups
remembered
the
information
equally
well.
C.
The
first
group
did
not
try
to
remember
the
information.
D.
The
second
group
did
not
understand
the
information.
34.
In
transactive
memory,
people
________.
?
A.
keep
the
information
in
mind
B.
change
the
quantity
of
information
C.
organize
information
like
a
computer
D.
remember
how
to
find
the
information
35.
What
is
the
effect
of
the
Internet
according
to
Sparrow’s
research?
A.
We
are
using
memory
differently.
B.
We
are
becoming
more
intelligent.
C.
We
have
poorer
memories
than
before.
D.
We
need
a
better
way
to
access
information.
第二节(共5小题;
每小题2.
5分,
满分12.
5分)
  阅读下面短文,
从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,
选项中有两项为多余选项。
  “You
are
what
you
eat,

goes
an
English
saying.
But
actually,
you
are
what
you
drink.
Why?
Because
75%
of
your
body
is
water!
 36
When
we
don’t
give
our
bodies
enough
water,
our
organs
cannot
work
properly.
We
are
also
easier
to
catch
a
disease.
When
we
are
sick,
drinking
plenty
of
water
should
be
one
of
the
first
things
we
do.
 37 ?
  Is
your
body
asking
for
more
water?
  If
you
experience
headaches,
sleepiness,
allergies
or
dizziness
(头昏眼花),
your
body
might
be
telling
you
to
drink
more
water.
 38 ?
  Even
problems
such
as
nervousness
or
forgetfulness
can
be
caused
by
lack
of
water.
In
addition,
the
medicines
that
treat
these
illnesses
can
sometimes
dry
out
your
body
further.
The
more
water
you
are
lacking
in,
the
worse
your
health
will
be—no
matter
how
much
medicine
you
take.
 39 ?
  How
much
water
is
enough
for
you?
  Most
experts
suggest
drinking
at
least
8-ounce
glasses
of
water
every
day.
However,
if
you
weigh
more
than
128
pounds,
you
need
even
more
water.
Drink
an
extra
glass
of
water
for
every
15
pounds
of
body
weight.
  Drink
more
water
in
the
hot
summer
months
and
when
you
exercise
to
replenish
(补充)
the
water
loss
through
sweating.
Caffeine
makes
your
body
lose
water
very
quickly.
So
drink
extra
water
if
you
drink
beverages
such
as
coffee,
tea
and
soda.
  Helpful
tips
  Try
these
tips
to
help
yourself
drink
more
water.
  ·Don’t
wait
until
you
are
thirsty
to
drink.
 40 ?
  ·Plan
to
have
enough
water.
  ·Carry
a
bottle
of
pure
water
with
you
wherever
you
go.
  ·Don’t
hesitate
by
frequent
trips
to
the
toilet.
  Drinking
plenty
of
water
can
take
as
much
time
as
you
need
and
prevent
serious
illness
in
the
future.
So
pour
yourself
a
glass
of
water
and
drink
up!
A.
Drink
water
occasionally.
B.
All
kinds
of
drinks
will
contribute
to
your
health.
C.
If
you’re
thirsty,
you’re
already
lacking
in
water.
D.
Instead,
we
usually
depend
on
drugs
to
make
us
well.
E.
Lack
of
water
may
be
the
real
reason
for
your
sickness.
F.
Therefore,
it
is
important
to
listen
to
your
body
when
it
asks
for
a
drink!
G.
With
this
in
mind,
it’s
no
surprise
that
drinking
enough
water
is
crucial
for
good
health.

outside
her

She
was
feeling
sick.
She
had
two
exams
that
day
and
physics

She
really

physics.
It
was
her

subject.
Terry
looked

at
her
from
the

of
the

and
then
looked
away
quickly.
Mo
thought
she
looked
guilty.
She
didn’t

physics,
she
didn’t
have
a
problem
with
anything.

  “Hi,
Mo,
it’s
your

exam
today,

said
Nima,
laughing
as
she
joined
the
line.
Terry
was
looking
at
Mo
again.
“So,
what’s
wrong
with
her?

asked
Nima.
“I
thought
you
were
friends.

“Yes,
so
did
I,

said
Mo.
“But

She
promised
to

then
she’s

all
my

And
when
I
rang
her

her

just

me
she
was

She’s
forgotten
who

said
Mo
angrily.
“Are

Mr

was
talking
to
the
class
and
the
other
students
were
going
into
the

Mo
gave
Nima
a

and
followed
them.
  Mo
couldn’t

five.
She
looked
up
and
saw
Terry
sitting
two

in

of
her.
Mo
couldn’t
believe
it!
Terry
was
holding
her
phone
on
her
knee
under
the
table
and
reading
from
it.
Is
that
how
Terry
always
got
such
good
grades?
She
felt
really
angry
at
Terry,
but
she
didn’t
know
what
to
do.
She
thought
about
telling
the
teacher,
but
what
would
everyone
else
think
of
her?
“Stop

said
Mr

as
he
started
to

the

Oh
no,
Mo
hadn’t
answered
two
of
the

She
was
going
to

again!
  Mo
wanted
to
talk
to
Terry
at
lunch
time,
but
she
couldn’t
find
her
anywhere.
The
next
exam
was
history.
That
was
Mo’s
favorite
subject
but
she
wasn’t
feeling

Mo
went
to

to

but
she
couldn’t

She
didn’t

about
Terry.
She
thought
about

a

but
everyone
would
hate
her
if
she
did
that.
“It
wasn’t
fair!

she
thought.
“Terry
was
getting
good
grades
by
cheating
all
that
time,

thought
Mo.
Just
then,
Mr
Reed
walked
past
her
table.
“Mr
Reed.

  Mo
was

Terry
again
in

that
afternoon.
Mo
was
feeling

Why
had
she
told
Mr
Reed?
But
it
was
too
late
now.
And
anyway,
Terry
didn’t
want
to
be
her

Mr

wanted
her
to

kids.
She

before

she

young

children
living
everyday
lives.
  “I

she

1999.
“That’s

Over

Cleary
took

Cleary
says
when
she
was
writing
Ramona,
she
took

from
a
little
girl
who
lived
in
the
house
behind
her
as
a

  Her

including
a
young
Jeff

who
grew
up
to

the

of

series.
  “I
must
have
been

Kinney
recalls.
“The

character.

  “Most

  Have
you
ever
noticed
how
Americans
fill
up
their
entire
glass
with
ice
and
then
pour
their
beverage(饮品)
in,
but
Europeans
take
their
drinks
at
room
temperature?
In
the
U.
S.
,
we’ve
created
fridges
that
give
you
cold
ice
at
the
press
of
a
button,
but
in
Britain
they
typically
serve
their
tap
water
warm.
  This
tradition—if
that’s
what
you
want
to
call
it—dates
back
to
the
19th
century.
During
that
time,
it
was
already
commonplace
for
most
American
homes
to
have
an
icebox.
Ice
would
be
harvested
in
northern
America
or
Canada
and
shipped
across
the
Atlantic
and
sold
at
a
high
price
in
British
department
stores.
Can
you
imagine
heading
to
Macy’s
to
treat
yourself
to
a
block
of
ice?
  Putting
ice
in
your
drink
started
to
become
somewhat
of
a
fashion(时尚)
trend
for
the
wealthy
in
Britain.
Some
would
put
a
few
cubes
in
their
champagne
and
sip
on
their
chilled
drinks
at
high-class
parties.
But,
like
with
any
fashion
trend,
it
eventually
faded,
mainly
because
the
ice
was
just
too
expensive.
And
even
once
iceboxes
began
appearing
in
homes
in
Britain
as
well,
Brits
never
took
a
liking
to
ice
in
their
drinks.
  So,
next
time
you
travel
overseas,
don’t
feel
offended(冒犯)
when
your
server
gives
you
an
eye
roll
when
you
ask
for
ice
water.

  As
Internet
users
become
more
dependent
on
the
Internet
to
store
information,
are
people
remembering
less?
If
you
know
your
computer
will
save
information,
why
store
it
in
your
own
personal
memory,
your
brain?
Experts
are
wondering
if
the
Internet
is
changing
what
we
remember
and
how.
  In
a
recent
study,
Professor
Betsy
Sparrow
conducted
some
experiments.
She
and
her
research
team
wanted
to
know
the
Internet
is
changing
memory.
In
the
first
experiment,
they
gave
people
40
unimportant
facts
to
type
into
a
computer.
The
first
group
of
people
understood
that
the
computer
would
save
the
information.
The
second
group
understood
that
the
computer
would
not
save
it.
Later,
the
second
group
remembered
the
information
better.
People
in
the
first
group
knew
they
could
find
the
information
again,
so
they
did
not
try
to
remember
it.
  In
another
experiment,
the
researchers
gave
people
facts
to
remember,
and
told
them
where
to
find
the
information
on
the
Internet.
The
information
was
in
a
specific
computer
folder
(文件夹).
Surprisingly,
people
later
remember
the
folder
location
(位置)
better
than
the
facts.
When
people
use
the
Internet,
they
do
not
remember
the
information.
Rather,
they
remember
how
to
find
it.
This
is
called
“transactive
memory
(交互记忆)”.
  According
to
Sparrow,
we
are
not
becoming
people
with
poor
memories
as
a
result
of
the
Internet.
Instead,
computer
users
are
developing
stronger
transactive
memories;
that
is,
people
are
learning
how
to
organize
huge
quantities
of
information
so
that
they
are
able
to
access
it
at
a
later
date.
This
doesn’t
mean
we
are
becoming
either
more
or
less
intelligent,
but
there
is
no
doubt
that
the
way
we
use
memory
is
changing.

满分12.
5分)
  阅读下面短文,
从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,
选项中有两项为多余选项。
  “You
are
what
you
eat,

goes
an
English
saying.
But
actually,
you
are
what
you
drink.
Why?
Because
75%
of
your
body
is
water!
 36
When
we
don’t
give
our
bodies
enough
water,
our
organs
cannot
work
properly.
We
are
also
easier
to
catch
a
disease.
When
we
are
sick,
drinking
plenty
of
water
should
be
one
of
the
first
things
we
do.
 37 ?
  Is
your
body
asking
for
more
water?
  If
you
experience
headaches,
sleepiness,
allergies
or
dizziness
(头昏眼花),
your
body
might
be
telling
you
to
drink
more
water.
 38 ?
  Even
problems
such
as
nervousness
or
forgetfulness
can
be
caused
by
lack
of
water.
In
addition,
the
medicines
that
treat
these
illnesses
can
sometimes
dry
out
your
body
further.
The
more
water
you
are
lacking
in,
the
worse
your
health
will
be—no
matter
how
much
medicine
you
take.
 39 ?
  How
much
water
is
enough
for
you?
  Most
experts
suggest
drinking
at
least
8-ounce
glasses
of
water
every
day.
However,
if
you
weigh
more
than
128
pounds,
you
need
even
more
water.
Drink
an
extra
glass
of
water
for
every
15
pounds
of
body
weight.
  Drink
more
water
in
the
hot
summer
months
and
when
you
exercise
to
replenish
(补充)
the
water
loss
through
sweating.
Caffeine
makes
your
body
lose
water
very
quickly.
So
drink
extra
water
if
you
drink
beverages
such
as
coffee,
tea
and
soda.
  Helpful
tips
  Try
these
tips
to
help
yourself
drink
more
water.
  ·Don’t
wait
until
you
are
thirsty
to
drink.
 40 ?
  ·Plan
to
have
enough
water.
  ·Carry
a
bottle
of
pure
water
with
you
wherever
you
go.
  ·Don’t
hesitate
by
frequent
trips
to
the
toilet.
  Drinking
plenty
of
water
can
take
as
much
time
as
you
need
and
prevent
serious
illness
in
the
future.
So
pour
yourself
a
glass
of
water
and
drink
up!
A.
Drink
water
occasionally.
B.
All
kinds
of
drinks
will
contribute
to
your
health.
C.
If
you’re
thirsty,
you’re
already
lacking
in
water.
D.
Instead,
we

E.
Lack
of

F.
Therefore,
it

  Mo
was
waiting
in
the
corridor
outside
her
class.
She
was
feeling
sick.
She
had
two
exams
that
day
and
physics
was
first.
She
really
hated
physics.
It
was
her
worst
subject.
Terry
looked
back
at
her
from
the
front
of
the
line,
and
then
looked
away
quickly.
Mo
thought
she
looked
guilty.
She
didn’t
have
a
problem
with
physics,
she
didn’t
have
a
problem
with
anything.
.
.
Miss
Perfect!
  “Hi,
Mo,
it’s
your
favorite
exam
today,

said
Nima,
laughing
as
she
joined
the
line.
Terry
was
looking
at
Mo
again.
“So,
what’s
wrong
with
her?

asked
Nima.
“I
thought
you
were
friends.

“Yes,
so
did
I,

said
Mo.
“But
she
hasn’t
spoken
to
me
for
two
weeks
now.
She
promised
to
help
me
review
for
the
physics
exam
too,
but
then
she’s
ignored
all
my
calls
and
texts.
And
when
I
rang
her
house,
her
mum
just
told
me
she
was
busy.
She’s
forgotten
who
her
friends
are!

said
Mo
angrily.
“Are
you
listening
to
me?

Mr
Reed
was
talking
to
the
class
and
the
other
students
were
going
into
the
exam
room.
Mo
gave
Nima
a
worried
look
and
followed
them.
  Mo
couldn’t
answer
question
number
five.
She
looked
up
and
saw
Terry
sitting
two
rows
in
front
of
her.
Mo
couldn’t
believe
it!
Terry
was
holding
her
phone
on
her
knee
under
the
table
and
reading
from
it.
Is
that
how
Terry
always
got
such
good
grades?
She
felt
really
angry
at
Terry,
but
she
didn’t
know
what
to
do.
She
thought
about
telling
the
teacher,
but
what
would
everyone
else
think
of
her?
“Stop
writing
and
put
your
pens
down,

said
Mr
Reed
as
he
started
to
collect
the
exam
papers.
Oh
no,
Mo
hadn’t
answered
two
of
the
questions.
She
was
going
to
fail
again!
  Mo
wanted
to
talk
to
Terry
at
lunch
time,
but
she
couldn’t
find
her
anywhere.
The
next
exam
was
history.
That
was
Mo’s
favorite
subject
but
she
wasn’t
feeling
good.
Mo
went
to
the
library
to
study,
but
she
couldn’t
concentrate.
She
didn’t
know
what
to
do
about
Terry.
She
thought
about
telling
a
teacher,
but
everyone
would
hate
her
if
she
did
that.
“It
wasn’t
fair!

she
thought.
“Terry
was
getting
good
grades
by
cheating
all
that
time,

thought
Mo.
Just
then,
Mr
Reed
walked
past
her
table.
“Mr
Reed.
.
.

  Mo
was
sitting
behind
Terry
again
in
the
history
exam
that
afternoon.
Mo
was
feeling
terrible.
Why
had
she
told
Mr
Reed?
But
it
was
too
late
now.
And
anyway,
Terry
didn’t
want
to
be
her
friend!
Mr
Reed
wanted
her
to
look
at
him
and
nod
if
she
saw
that
Terry
was
cheating
in
the
exam.
