An unusual trip to Hawaii brought two strangers closer and closer and their story deserves a wide spread.
As her plane flew through the sky above the ocean, there came a sudden thunderstorm. Five minutes later, Uemoto and her copilot(副驾员驶) McMahon heard a strange sound. Then, without warning, they lost power to both of the engines. It took them a moment to process the fact that they might crash. The pilots powered through the items on the emergency checklist. Nothing worked. As the plane was falling, they jumped into the ocean.
By ten that night, their bodies began trembling uncontrollably in the cool night air. Something must be done to pull them through. Swimming on her stomach, Uemoto had McMahon wrap his arms around her knees so he could rest his head on the back of her legs. To be with someone else and to feel another person's comforting presence in the darkness somehow made the suffering bearable.
When the sun rose the next morning, they caught sight of the island of Hawaii, the destination they had dared dream! Suddenly, Uemoto saw a shark, which made her breath catch in her throat. "What do we do? What do we do?" Uemoto asked, frightened. "Just keep looking forward! If it comes close, I'll kick it in the eye!" said McMahon evenly. Unexpectedly, the shark circled them for about 30 minutes. Then, as quietly as it had appeared, it swam off. Uemoto and McMahon breathed a sigh of relief.
After struggling in the water for over 20 hours, there came a US Navy helicopter. It flew overhead and next banked towards them. Uemoto and McMahon burst into tears. Alone, either of them would have died. But together, they made it.

Lots of people buy books and products from Amazon, an online seller. They order and pay over the Internet and the books are shipped through the mail or a delivery service like FedEx.
One day, people could get their Amazon deliveries from an unmanned aerial vehicle --- a tiny flying vehicle that looks like a toy helicopter. And instead of waiting days to get the parcel, it could be at the buyer抯 home in half an hour or less. The company is working on tiny vehicles they call 揚rime Air. The vehicles are also known as 搊ctocopters. On their website, Amazon says, 揙ne day, Prime Air Vehicles will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road today.
The US抯 Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) is working on safety rules for unmanned flying vehicles like the Prime Air copters. Those rules will make sure the copters are able to fly safely where they need to go. Once the FAA has put its rules in place, which could be as early as 2016, Amazon will be ready with its tiny flyers. The process could take as many as five years.
The new delivery service would likely be available only in the United States at first. The copters the company is testing now can handle packages up to five pounds (2.3kg) and they have a range of 10 miles (16 kilometres).
Other companies are also looking at using unmanned flying vehicles to deliver their products. For example, Domino抯 Pizza in the UK released a video showing a “DomiCopter” delivering a pizza. That video may have been a publicity stunt (噱头). In any case, just like Prime Air’s octocopters, the DomiCopters don’t have clearance to take off just yet.
4. For what purpose does Amazon want to use the Prime Air?
A. To predict the sales volume. B. To remind people to order online.
C. To check the delivery service. D. To shorten the delivery period.
5. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us about the new delivery method?
A. Its moving speed. B. Its appearance. C. Its delivery ability. D. Its safety.
6. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. The new delivery service has attracted more customers.
B. Unmanned vehicles could possibly be developed and employed by more companies.
C. The designer of Amazon has promoted “Prime Air” to other companies.
D. Another unmanned vehicle has been put into use by a British pizza company.
C
Everglades National Park (大沼泽地国家公园) is located in the state of Florida. It is the largest wilderness in the entire country and makes up 25% of the wetlands in the state. The park is home to several rare and endangered species. It is also the third largest national park in the US, after Death Valley and Yellowstone. Each year, about 1 million tourists visit the park. On a global level, it has been announced as a World Heritage Site.
Unlike most other national parks, Everglades National Park was created to protect an ecosystem (生态系统) from damage. In 1947, President Harry Truman spoke at the official opening of Everglades National Park, saying the goal of creating the park was to protect forever a wild area that could never be replaced.
10,000 different islands make up Everglades National Park. Each of these islands is lived by natural wildlife. The Everglades is home to about 15 species that are endangered. In addition, more than 350 bird species and 300 species of fresh and saltwater fish live within the park. The Everglades is also home to 40 species of mammals and 50 reptile species.
There are many ways to explore the Everglades. Visitors can see alligators (短吻鳄) while hiking the Anhinga Trail. The Everglades is one of the only places on Earth where freshwater alligators and saltwater crocodiles live in the same area. Visitors using airboats are likely to see large groups of birds. Some visitors might enjoy riding bicycles through Shark Valley. Others may want to move slowly through waters where they can see insects and wildlife closely.
According to experts, changes to the Everglades are becoming a danger to several different kinds of wildlife. They say it is a result of actions the US government began more than 50 years ago, and settlers began even earlier.
