Unit 3 The Million Pound Bank Note

教学目标:1. 让学生了解作者马克·吐温的生平及其主要作品,扩充他们的人文知识;
2. 学生能用自己的话组织描述想法与观点,锻炼他们的口语表达能力;
3. 能训练学生的听力能力;
4. 让学生掌握本节课的重点词汇与短语:
词汇:novel; adventure; fathom; bet; wander; permit; spot; seek.
短语:bring up; by accident; account for; on the contrary.
教学重点:1. 运用ppt展示图片及例句,讲解本节课所要求掌握的重点词汇与短语;
2. 运用ppt展示图片及相关信息,初步了解《百万英镑》及其作者马克·吐温的生平及主要作品,扩充学生的人文知识,引发学生的学习兴趣。
教学难点:通过营造一种轻松愉快的氛围,利用小组讨论与老师提问及创设情景,尽可能多地鼓励学生用自己的话描述想法或观点,锻炼他们的口语表达能力。
教学方法:任务型模式(discussion and pair work),情景创设(问题情景:假设你有五百万,你会怎样支配这笔钱呢?)

教学过程:
第一步:Warming-up
老师(T) 简单问候学生(Ss),然后用ppt向学生展示4幅关于The Million Pound Bank Note的图片,要求Ss用自己的话来猜测并描述图片里发生的事。[老师将全班学生分成8组 (具体分组可根据班级情况而定),要求每两组一张图片,给出2分钟的讨论时间,然后每两组分别派出一个代表来描述,其余学生可以补充本组的不足,老师在听Ss描述时可以适当补充或者总结自己的观点。](6min)
师生讨论完图片后,老师指出这四幅图是源自小说The Million Pound Bank Note,并写在黑板上。然后提问:Who is the writer of the play Ss: Mark Twain.
T: What do you know about the American writer Mark Twain 然后老师让学生快速阅读课文17页的“About Mark Twain”并独立完成表格。(2min)
老师在ppt上用表格形式呈现“About Mark Twain”的主要内容,师生一起完成检验答案。(1min)

Mark Twain (born on Nov. 30th,1835, die on April 21st, 1910): 射手座 ( http: / / baike. / view / 2448.htm" \t "_blank ) ( Sagittarius), is an American great humorist, novelist, literary artist (文学家) and social critic(批判家). He is an outstanding representative of American realistic literature in the late 19th century.
At the age of 12, the death of his father forced him to leave school and worked as a printer’s apprentice to help support the family. But he was quickly tired of this life and left to spend 4 years as a river pilot on the Mississippi where his pen name came from. In 1870, he married into an old Connecticut(美国康涅狄格州) family and settled in Hartford. His worldwide fame allowed him lucrative(赚钱的) international lecture tours but Twain continued to write steadily for the rest of his life.
Two famous novels:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: is a popular 1876 novel about a young boy growing up in a small town along the Mississippi River. It is a story filled with action, adventure, ingenious ideas, love, and schoolyard politics. The whole story is seemingly a complication of what people did or wish they did during their childhood.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: It tells the story of a teenaged misfit named Huckleberry who finds himself floating on a raft down the Mississippi River with an escaping slave, Jim. In the course of their perilous journey, Huck and Jim meet adventure, danger, and a cast of characters who are sometimes menacing and often hilarious(滑稽的).
第二步:Pre-reading
了解完马克·吐温的生平及主要作品后,进而老师引导学生进入pre-reading部分,此时老师设置了一个问题情景。

「设计说明」老师随机叫学生回答问题,这样形成师生互动,训练学生对问题的快速反应能力和口语能力,引导学生树立正确的金钱观。
老师说: Now we come to the next part. If a rich person gives you a large sum of money to spend as you like, for example, five million pounds, what would you do Imagine that kind of situation and give me your answer.
(如果课堂气氛不行,老师要调动起课堂的积极性,需要进行适当的鼓励或引导说:Well, don’t be shy, just try! 再次强调问题: Use your imagination what you would buy when you have five million pounds That’s a large sum of money! You can do anything you want!)

任务1:While watching, write down some words or sentences which impressed you most.
任务2:While watching, try to guess the social status of the characters and the relationship between the two old people.
任务3: After reading, try to use your own words to tell the story,you can choose either Chinese or English to express.
「设计说明」老师设计的任务分为低中高三个层次,大部分学生都能完成其中的一到两个任务。本活动的目的在于给同学们视觉上的刺激,然后猜测故事情节发展,促使他们对即将要学的内容更加兴趣,并且锻炼学生的听说能力。

「设计说明」老师用ppt展示单词或词组及例句,讲解重点难点词汇,并且将新学的词与之前学过的相似词汇在这里进行对比,重新温习了所学的内容,加深新学的词汇印象。老师要把握好哪些词汇是要求掌握运用的,哪些是可以只需了解的词汇。

学习完单词之后,剩下一分钟时间老师布置作业。
