Rome
A

of
Rome.
Held
as

place

civilizations
of
the
world
prospered(繁荣),Rome

museums.
Vienna
If

B
During
my
elementary
school
years,
I
used
to
compare
my
mom
with
my
best
friend
Tiffany’s
mom.
Tiffany’s
mom
always
gave
her
lots
of
money
to
buy
the
most
fashionable
clothes
and
favorite
food.
Her
mom
allowed
her
to
do
anything
she
liked.
I
really
admired
Tiffany.
My
mom
didn’t
give
me
much
pocket
money
and
she
always
told
me
that
I
should
behave
myself.
I
was
annoyed
with
her.
Whenever
I
didn’t
get
what
I
wanted,
I
would
complain
to
my
mom,
“Tiffany’s
mom
would
give
her
that!
I
wish
she
were
my
mom.”
Every
time,
my
mom
would
calmly
say
“Poor
Tiffany”.
I
couldn’t
understand
her.
“She
shouldn’t
be
feeling
sorry
for
Tiffany!”
I
thought.
“She
should
be
feeling
sorry
for
me.”
One
day,
I
couldn’t
help
saying
to
Mom,
“Poor
Tiffany?
Lucky
Tiffany!
She
gets
everything
she
wants!
Why
do
you
feel
sorry
for
her?”
I
burst
out
crying.
My
mom
sat
down
next
to
me
and
said
softly.
“Yes,
I
do
feel
sorry
for
her.
I
have
been
teaching
you
a
lesson
that
she
will
never
be
taught.”
I
looked
up
at
her,
“What
are
you
talking
about?”
Mom
said
with
care,
“One
day
she
will
really
want
something.
Maybe
she’ll
find
out
that
she
can’t
have
it.
Her
mother
won’t
always
be
around
to
give
her
money,
and
what’s
more,
money
can’t
buy
everything.”
She
continued,
“I
have
taught
you
valuable
lessons
by
not
giving
you
everything
you
want.
You’ll
know
how
to
look
for
bargains(便宜货)and
save
money,
but
she
won’t.
You’ll
understand
that
you
need
to
work
hard
to
get
the
things
that
you
want
but
she
won’t.
When
Tiffany
is
a
grown
woman,
she’ll
wake
up
one
day
and
she
will
be
wishing
that
she
had
a
mom
like
the
one
you’ve
got.
Life
lessons
are
more
important
than
modern
clothes
and
delicious
food.”
It
took
some
time,
but
I
eventually
understood
my
mom’s
words.
Now
I
am
a
happy
and
successful
woman.

JERUSALEM
—Israel's
Environmental
Protection
Ministry
asked
citizens
to
avoid
unnecessary
physical
activity
and
stay
indoors
on
Wednesday,
as
a
serious
sandstorm
struck
the
Middle
East
in
a
thick
yellow
haze(霾)for
a
second
day
with
no
hope
to
see
things
clearly.
The
ministry
said
heavy
levels
of
dust
and
sand
in
the
air
were
threats
to
cities
throughout
the
country.
The
ministry's
website
advised
pregnant
women,
the
elderly
and
those
with
heart
and
respiratory
(呼吸的)
conditions
to
stay
indoors,
and
asked
schools
to
keep
children
indoors.
The
emergency
service
Magen
David
Adom
reported
that
it
had
treated
more
than
300
Israelis
suffering
from
breathing
problems,
and
that
hospitals
had
more
respiratory-related
patients,
including
a
large
number
of
the
elderly
and
those
with
asthma
and
related
conditions.
The
domestic
Israeli
airlines
Arkia
and
Israir
continued
to
ground
their
flights
to
Eilat
because
of
reduced
visibility.
The
sandstorm
has
affected
Egypt,
Jordan,
Iraq,
Lebanon
and
Syria,
where
at
least
five
deaths
have
been
reported.
"There
has
been
nothing
that
came
close
to
the
magnitude
(规模)
of
this
sandstorm,
"said
Daniel
Rosenfeld,
a
professor
with
the
Institute
of
Earth
Sciences
at
the
Hebrew
University
in
Jerusalem.
"While
Israel
has
experienced
a
number
of
sandstorms
in
the
past,
they
started
from
the
Sinai
Desert
and
the
Sahara
Desert
to
the
south
and
were
joined
by
winter
windstorms
that
cleared
the
air,"
he
said.
In
this
case,
the
storm
comes
from
Syria
and
Iraq
to
the
north
and
east.
Because
the
storm
is
hitting
during
the
summer,
at
a
time
of
both
little
wind
and
severe
heat
and
humidity
(潮湿),
forecasters
expect
the
particles
(颗粒)
to
remain
in
the
air
throughout
the
weekend
and
possibly
into
next
week.
"This
is
really
puzzling,
said
Rosenfeld,
adding
that
he
and
his
colleagues
will
conduct
research
into
the
origins
of
the
unprecedented
(前所未有的)
storm.
28.What's
the
probable
meaning
of
the
underlined
word“ground"in
Paragraph
4?
A.
add.
B.
reduce.
C.
stop.
D.
fuel.
29.
It
can
be
learned
from
the
text
that
the
sandstorm____.
A.
happened
in
winter
B.
showed
no
sign
of
weakening
C.
came
from
Syria
and
Iraq
to
the
south
D.
could
clear
the
air
30.
How
did
Rosenfeld
feel
about
the
origins
of
the
storm?
A.
Confused.
B.
Upset.
C.
Confident.
D.
Happy.
31.
Where
does
the
text
probably
come
from?
A.
A
novel.
B.
A
news
story.
C.
A
geography
book.
D.
A
travel
guide.

A
new
study,
conducted
by
British
company
Mindlab
International,
has
found
that
listening
to
music
at
work
increases
accuracy
(精确)
and
speed,
The
Telegraph
reported.
Perhaps,
some
parents
disagree
with
this
idea,
saying,
“Switch
off
the
music
and
concentrate!”
Well,
if
that’s
the
case
with
your
parents,
you
might
now
be
able
to
convince
them
that
you
have
science
on
your
side.
The
company
gave
26
participants
a
series
of
different
tasks
for
five
days
in
a
row,
including
spell
checking,
mathematical
word
problems,
data
entry,
and
abstract
reasoning.
The
participants
completed
these
tasks
while
listening
to
music
or
no
music
at
all.
The
results
showed
that
while
music
was
playing,
88%
of
participants
produced
their
most
accurate
test
results
and
81%
completed
their
fastest
work.
David
Lewis,
chairman
of
Mindlab
International,
told
The
Telegraph,
“Music
is
a
very
forceful
management
tool
if
participants
want
to
increase
not
only
the
efficiency
of
their
workforce
but
also
their
emotional
state...
they
are
going
to
become
more
positive
about
the
work.”
However,
you
may
have
a
list
of
your
favorite
songs,
but
not
all
kinds
of
music
match
all
homework.
For
maths
or
other
subjects
involving
numbers
or
attention
to
detail,
you
should
listen
to
classical
music,
the
study
found.
In
the
study,
pop
music
enabled
participants
to
complete
their
tasks
58%
faster
than
when
listening
to
no
music
at
all.
If
you
are
reviewing
your
English
writing,
pop
music
is
the
best
choice,
as
it
is
the
best
kind
for
spell
checking.
It
cut
mistakes
by
14%,
compared
to
listening
to
no
music.
After
finishing
your
homework,
do
you
often
take
time
to
check
your
answers?
Maybe,
some
dance
music
is
suitable
for
you.
32.What
did
the
participants
have
to
do
in
the
study?
A.
Persuade
their
parents
to
listen
to
music.
B.
Do
a
series
of
work
without
rest
or
pause.
C.
Complete
five
tasks
in
five
days
without
help.
D.
Finish
tasks
with
music
or
without
music
at
all.
33.What
does
the
underlined
word
"they"
in
Para

refer
to?
A.
Results.
B.

C.

D.

34.When
you
review
your
English
writing,
what
kind
of
music
should
you
listen
to?
A.
Classical
music.
B.
Dance
music.
C.
Pop

D.
Rock
music.
35.What
is
the
best

Many
people
think
that
English
writing
is
difficult.
___36___
Here
are
some
great
writing
tips
that
will
help
you
improve
your
writing
in
a
short
time.
Don’t
ramble
(长篇大论).
This
is
a
very
common
mistake
made
by
people
who
have
poor
writing
skills.
When
they
ramble,
they
are
not
paying
attention
to
grammar.
As
a
result,
their
sentences
become
very
long.
___37___
If
you
know
you
have
poor
grammar,
use
short
sentences.
___38___
Think
about
each
sentence
carefully
to
make
sure
that
it
is
correct
before
moving
on.
It’s
better
to
write
a
short
passage
that
is
easy
to
read
and
mistake-free
than
to
write
a
long
article
that
is
filled
with
grammar
mistakes.
Increase
your
vocabulary.
If
you
don’t
have
a
large
vocabulary,
you
will
find
it
difficult
to
write
as
you
can’t
find
right
words
to
express
yourself
clearly.
The
solution
to
this
problem
is
to
increase
your
vocabulary.
___39___
You
can
do
this
by
reading
the
local
newspapers
daily,
borrowing
books
from
the

第三部分
语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分)
第一节
完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
The
Boy
Made
It!
One
Sunday,
Nicholas,
a
teenager,
went
skiing
at
Sugarloaf
Mountain
in
Maine.
In
the
early
afternoon,
when
he
was
planning
to
go
home,
a
fierce
snowstorm
41
the
area.
Unable
to
see
far,
he
accidentally
turned
off
the
path.
Before
he
knew
it,
Nicholas
was
lost,
all
alone!
He
didn’t
have
42
,
water,
a
phone,
or
other
supplies
.
He
was
getting
colder
by
the
minute.
Nicholas
had
no
idea
where
he
was.
He
tried
not
to
43
.
He
thought
about
all
the
44
shows
he
had
watched
on
TV.
It
was
time
to
put
the
45
he
had
learned
to
use.
He
decided
to
stop
skiing.
There
was
a
better
chance
of
someone
46
him
if
he
stayed
out.
The
first
thing
he
did
was
to
find
shelter
from
the
freezing
wind
and
snow.
If
he
didn’t,
his
body
temperature
would
get
very
low,
which
could
47
kill
him.
Using
his
skis,
Nicholas
built
a
snow
cave.
He
gathered
a
huge
mass
of
snow
and
48
a
hole
in
the
middle.
Then
he
piled
branches
on
top
of
himself,
like
a
blanket,
to
49
as
warm
as
he
could.
By
that
evening,
Nicholas
was
really
hungry.
He
ate
snow
and
drank
water
from
a
nearby
stream
so
that
his
body
wouldn’t
lose
too
much
water.
Not
knowing
how
much
longer
he
could
last,
Nicholas
did
the
only
thing
he
could—he
huddled
(蜷缩)
in
his
50
and
slept.
The
next
day,
Nicholas
went
out
to
look
for
help,
51
he
couldn’t
find
anyone.
He
followed
his
52
and
returned
to
the
snow
cave,
because
without
shelter,
he
could
die
that
night.
On
Tuesday,
Nicholas
went
out
to
find
help.
He
had
walked
for
about
a
mile
53
a
volunteer
searcher
found
him.
After
two
days
stuck
in
the
snow,
Nicholas
was
saved.
Nicholas
might
not
have
survived
this
snowstorm
had
it
not
been
for
TV.
He
had
often
watched
Grylls’
survival
show
Man
vs.
Wild.
That’s
where
he
learned
the
tips
54
saved
his
life.
In
each
episode
(一期节目)
of
Man
vs.
Wild,
Grylls
is
abandoned
in
a
wild
area
and
has
to
find
his
way
out.
When
Grylls
heard
about
Nicholas’
amazing
deeds,
he
was
super
impressed
that
Nicholas
had
55
it
since
he
knew
better
than
anyone
how
hard
Nicholas
had
to
work
to
stay
alive.
