Do you know Venus (金星)? Of the eight planets Venus is the nearest one to us. Venus was the Roman goddess of love and beauty. In Greek her name was Aphrodite. Venus and the Earth are almost the same size, and you would weigh almost the same on both planets. If you were 70 pounds on Earth you would be 63 pounds on Venus.
???? Venus is an "unfriendly" planet. Because of its thick cloud, you can't see the surface (表面). In many
ways Venus is like the Earth. It has active volcanoes (火山), mountains and valleys, too. But Venus is too hot for life. It has the hottest temperature of the planets in our solar system, about 480?Besides, the Earth lets heat out through volcanoes, hot springs, but Venus lets heat out in a different way. Venus has no moons. Scientists call Venus the Earth's sister planet because Venus and the Earth are almost the same size. For a long time most scientists thought that Venus probably had plants, animals, and possibly even human beings. However, because Venus is so hot, it is impossible for anything to live there.
26. Aphrodite is the goddess of ____ in Greek.
A. danger and thought B. love and beauty
C. beauty and danger D. love and thought
27. If you are 60kg on Earth, you will be about _____ on Venus.
A. 20kg B. 54kg C. 63kg D. 70kg
28. Why is Venus an "unfriendly" planet?
A. It's the nearest planet to us.
B. It's almost the same size as the Earth.

Daming woke up in the morning. The robot said in a pleasant voice, “It is June 26, 2118. It's a fine day. And your father is leaving for Planet 3549 in an hour.”
Planet 3549 is a newly-discovered planet. With the development of technology, it will take only 15 days to travel there. Daming's father is an excellent astronaut (宇航员), so he was chosen to land on this planet.
Before his journey, scientists had collected a lot of information about the planet. Then came the time for Daming's father to leave. He said goodbye to his family members and friends, and then started his journey, during which time he had a good rest in the spaceship. After landing on Planet 3549 safely, the real work began for Daming's father. He connected with the headquarters (指挥中心) on the earth and sent back some photographs of this planet. After that, he sent one of the robots away to get more data (数据) about Planet 3549. Meanwhile, some machines controlled by computers in the spaceship were working to produce oxygen (氧) and clean water, and other machines were dealing with waste.
Everything worked very well for the first week. Unluckily, something suddenly went wrong with a small part of a machine, and it couldn't turn dirty water into drinking water. It was terrible. Daming's father was very worried, but suddenly he had an idea. He connected the machine with a tool outside the spaceship, which could provide power (动力) for it, so he fixed the machine all by himself! Though it wouldn't last long, he avoided danger for the time being. “I must call back the earth and ask for help,” he thought to himself.
Hearing the news, the scientists on the earth immediately took action and sent another spaceship to bring him back. Daming's mother and the whole family were all concerned (担心) about Daming's father. They made vision (视频) calls every day until Daming's father safely returned.
31. Why was Daming's father chosen to visit Planet 3549?
A. Because he is an excellent scientist.
B. Because it is a fine day.
C. Because there is life on this planet.
D. Because he is a great astronaut.
32. Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Scientists knew nothing about the planet before Daming's father went there.
B. Daming's father spent a month completing the trip to the planet.
C. Daming's father traveled to the planet with at least one robot.

B. The machine couldn't make clean water.
C. The machine couldn't deal with waste.
D. The machine couldn't tell the right direction.
34. How did Daming's father solve the problem?
A. He repaired the machine by himself.
B. He sent a robot to repair the machine.
C. He asked the headquarters to repair the machine from the earth.
D. He returned to the earth as soon as he found the problem.
35.How did Darning feel when he heard that his father needed help?
A. He felt excited. B. he felt angry. C. he felt sad. D. He felt worried.

Our nearest neighbour is the moon. In the sky, the moon and the sun seem to be of the same size because the moon is much nearer.
The moon makes the tides—the changes in the level of the sea. The moon and the sun together pull the sea. In some parts of the world, the difference between “high tide” (when the sea is very near to the land) and “low tide” (when the sea is far away from the land) is very big. This is very important for ships.
The moon is very different from the earth. Gravity on the moon is six times weaker than that on the earth. There isn't any air. During the day, it is very, very hot but at night it is very, very cold. Nothing can live on the moon. If the moon goes between the earth and the sun, we have an eclipse of the sun (日食). The moon stops the light from the sun and we have night in the day. If the earth goes between the moon and the sun, we have an eclipse of the moon (月食). The moon goes into the shadow (影子) of the earth and it disappears for a few minutes.
36.When the sea is far away from the land: we call it"
A. high tide B. low tide C. shadow D. gravity
37. Gravity on the earth is about stronger than that on the moon.
A. five times B. six times C. seven times D. eight times
38. When the moon goes between the earth and the sun, we have night in the day, and we call it the eclipse of ____.
A. the moon B. the sun C. the stars D. the earth
39. What happens when we have an eclipse of the moon?
A. The earth goes between the moon and the sun.
B. The moon goes into the shadow of the sun.
C. The moon goes into the shadow of its own.
D. The sun disappears for a few minutes.
40. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
a. The moon and the sun are of the same size.
b. Gravity on the earth is 6 times stronger than that on the moon.
c. The changes in the level of the sea are called tides.
d. The moon itself pulls the sea and makes the tides.
e. When the sea is near to the land,a high tide may happen.
f. It is much hotter in the day but much colder at night on the moon.
A. abcf B. bcde C. adef D. bcef

Living in space is common to astronauts. But what if it is a task of nearly a year?
US astronaut Scott Kelly was on the International Space Station (ISS) for 340 days. It is the longest time that a US astronaut has spent in space at a time. Kelly's stay is part of the Twins Study. When Scott Kelly spent nearly a year in the ISS, his twin brother Mark Kelly lived on Earth. They gave scientists more ways to study the human space flight.
Usually living in the ISS for such a long time is boring. Was it the same for Kelly? Let's take a look.
It's time to enjoy a sunrise. But for Kelly, it was one of the 16 sunrises he saw each day in the ISS. Isn't that cool?
Work comes first.
During his stay, Kelly and his partners did about 400 science experiments. One of them was about planting vegetables. And they did it! Growing vegetables will be helpful for longer space journeys.
Moving with microgravity (微重力).
As we all know, space is a place with microgravity, which influences human bodies. So Kelly did exercise more than 700 hours in the ISS. That was about two hours of exercise a day. Microgravity also makes some easy things difficult. Kelly often slept in a sleeping bag, or his arms would float (飘浮) in front of him all the time.
Boring? Why not do something for fun?
Kelly loved taking photos from space and sharing them with the world online. Even President Obama was his fan. Under one of his photos, Obama wrote, “Hey, loving the photos. Do you ever look out of the window and just freak out (吓坏了)?” “I don't freak out about anything, Mr. President, except getting a question from you,” Kelly replied.
根据所给材料,完成下列任务。
1. How long did Kelly stay in the ISS?
2. Why did scientists start the Twins Study?
3. What did Kelly do because of the influence of microgravity on human bodies?
4. Did President Obama enjoy Kelly's photos?
5. What was Kelly's life in the ISS like?

Journey to Mars
Our school organised a great trip to Mars on July 6th, 2050. We went to Mars by spaceship. On Mars we found a lot of things different from those on our earth. The environment there was very beautiful. We visited everywhere. We also had a party. Many students took an active part in the party, and their songs were very nice. Finally, we made a telephone call with aliens. We all had a good time.
The trip was very interesting and I'll never forget the trip. I hope to travel to Mars again.
