C: Who are you? Are you a ghost?
M: No, are you a ghost?
(Colin stared and stared at her with his big eyes.)
C: No, I am Colin Craven. Who are you?
M: I am Mary. Mr. Craven is my uncle.
C: He is my father.
M: I didn’t know that he had a son. Why were you crying?
C: I was sad and my head hurt. People talk about me because I am always ill.
I don’t like it. My father doesn’t like it either. I am going to die.
My father doesn’t want to see me.
M: Why not?
C: My mother died when I was born. He feels sad when he looks at me.
I think he almost hates me.
M: He hates the garden because she died. (half speaking to herself.)
