Happiness can mean different things to different people. For example, for one person, it
may mean being in a relationship, while for someone else it may mean feeling you have the
ability to handle whatever life throws at you.
While you might think that there are certain things that make you happy (or could make
you happy if you had them), research has shown that there are certain common qualities among
happy people—and it isn't necessarily what you might have thought.
You might think that happy people have lots of money, are physically attractive or have
great jobs. Or, you might just think happy people are simply lucky, and are bom that way.
Research suggests, however, that there are a number of variables(可变因素) that make a
far greater contribution to happiness than outer and more superficial factors(表面的因素).
That doesn't mean that if you have a lot of money you won't be happy, or that having a lot of money is bad, it just means that other factors are more important in determining happiness. In fact, a strong positive relationship between wealth and happiness only exists for those who live below the poverty line and/or who are unemployed.
What makes happy people different from the others is that they have a different attitude-a different way of thinking about things and doing things. They interpret the world in a different way, and go about their lives in a different way.
61. According to the text, which of the following contributes most to happiness
A. A certain number of outer and more social factors.
B. A different ability to handle whatever life throws at you.
C. A strong positive relation between wealth and happiness.
D. A strong positive attitude to considering and doing things.

64. Which of the following can best serve as the title of the passage
A. Money Is Not Everything
B. What Makes Happy People Happy
C. What Is Happiness
D. How to Live a Different Life
65. Which of the following words best describes the author's attitude in writing this passage
A. Doubtful B. Negative C. Casual D. Persuasive
C
In every school, while there are hardworking students, there are also students who are not interested in study. They just come to school, sit at the back of the class, talk and disturb the others. There are some reasons for such behavior, such as family, peer(同龄人) influence and financial problems.
Parents influence children's academic performance greatly. If the parents are interested in how their child is doing at school, the child will be more interested in his lessons too. Educated parents generally show more interest in the academic performance of their children. However, this should be a practice common to all families not only to the educated ones. When the parents are not interested in the success or failure of their children, they will not care about school or lessons, and will perform poorly.
In schools, the best-known students are the ones who do everything except for studying. They seem the coolest students at school and everybody admires their reputation. When the parents fail to show any interest in their children, they are likely to become one of those students who look cool but display no academic achievement. Because in these ages teenagers do no. understand the importance of useful things, they do things which seem really important among their peer group. Their only aim is to be well known at school and have a group.
Another reason for students- lack of interest in study is the financial situation of his family.
There are some students who think even if they pass the university exam, their families will not be able to find the money needed for their education. Apart from this. some students have to work after school. As a result, they cannot concentrate on their studies.
It is possible to do something to change the life of these academically uninterested students.
The parents and the students themselves may be warned, or the government can give financial aid to these students. Maybe it is very difficult to completely solve this problem, but we can a. least improve it.
66. According to the passage, students lack interest in studying mainly because
A. their schools pay little attention to such students.
B. their peers admire them too much in everything.
C. their parents care little about their academic performance.
D. poverty prevented them from concentrating on their studies.
67. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. It is very difficult to improve the students who lack interest in studying.
B. Parents should help teenagers to understand the importance of useful things.
C. The government has changed the life of these academically uninterested students.
D. It is impossible for students in poor families to show interest in their studies.
68. What can be inferred according to the passage
A. The uneducated parents are to blame for their children's poor academic performance.
B. Only when the government pay more attention can the problem be solved.
C. Students are not interested in studying for some reasons.
D. The academically uninterested students can't completely changed.
69. The passage mainly deals with ______.
A. how to change the students lacking interest in studying
B. the important role family and society should play
C. why most students cannot concentrate on their studies
D. students who are uninterested in their academic performance
70. What is the author's purpose in writing the passage
A. To urge the students lacking interest in studies to study hard.
B. To give an account of the fact that students are not hardworking.
C. To suggest helping the children improve their academic performance.
D. To analyze the main factors that children lack interest in their studies.

Research has proven that there are many health benefits of reading and listening to jokes. Some of the benefits include strengthening the immune system, reducing food craving and increasing an individual's pain threshpld(痛觉域). Moreover, recently there has been announced a field which is known as humor treatment which can help patients heal more quickly. There is also a large number of stress relieving benefits of listening to jokes.
Reading or listening to funny things in general causes laughter and laughter plays an important role in reducing stress hormones(激素), such as growth hormone and dopamine. All these things didn't make sense to me some years back when I was going through a very difficult phase in my life. It was only when a friend of mine suggested reading some funny materials, that I realized that funny jokes are really powerful and they can change the mood of a person instantly. Since then I have been reading funny jokes almost every time I feel like laughing and getting relief from everyday stress.
When I was searching for funny jokes, one of the best categories I came across was the medical jokes category. Medical jokes are related to patients, doctors, nurses and medicines in general. From the past one year, I have just been reading and listening to medical jokes because these are really different from the everyday jokes we hear. Each one is so unique and so funny that it will make you laugh like crazy.
The best thing about these jokes is that they are absolutely free. If you are looking for free medical jokes, the best place you can get it from is the internet. There are numerous sites which have a large collection of free medical jokes.
71. From Paragraph 1 we know reading and listening to jokes ____

All people need and want things. What one person needs and wants may be different from the needs and wants of another person. When people live together in a family or even in a city, these different needs and wants can lead to conflicts. To make living together easier, good manners have developed over the years. Good manner, .re ways of treating people so that people feel hotter about themselves and about each other, and so that conflicts don t become serious.
When someone does something for us or gives us something, saying "thank you" is good manners. When we hurt someone, saying "I'm sorry" is also good manners. It is good manners to say "excuse me" if we pass very closely in front of someone, or if we need to get another person's attention. Good manners, then, can be found in saying "thank you" "I'm sorry", and"excuse me," .Good manners are also actions.
When we give someone else our seat on a crowded bus, when we hold the door open for another person to walk through, when we wait our turn, when we walk on the right-hand side of the mall or sidewalk, or when we knock before opening the closed door of a room, those things show good manners. When we meet someone for the first time, it is good manners to smile and say "hello" and give our name. When people come to our house, it's good manners to greet them with a smile when they come, and to say something like "thank you for coming"when they go home.
Sometimes, good manners can be the things we don't do. When we don't talk with a full mouth, or interrupt, or cut into a line, that is showing good manners. When we don︿t try to get the attention of someone on the telephone, that's good manners, too.
People often feel "not quite right". Bad weather, a stressful day, and sickness can make people irritable(易怒的) or easily upset. If we use good manners, we make getting along more pleasant for everyone.

One possible version:
At present, many students try to study from early morning till late afternoon, even during the ten-minute break.
In my opinion,to take a ten-minute break between classes is definitely.Otherwise students will feel tired both physically and mentally.During the ten-minute break,we can do something to get rid of tiredness. What we need is to have a real rest, instead of getting more exhausted. So relaxation in that period is really of great benefit to us.
As far as Im concerned.making progress calls for a thorough and lasting process. As an old saying goes.all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.To study effectively.we should combine our study with amusement.Only by this means will we be able to study effectively.

M: Oh, it's you, Lucy. I haven't seen you in a million years. I actually worked abroad for a few
months and I've just returned from Canada. How are things with you
W: Everything is fine, except that we have been missing you.
Text 5
W; Is that your dog He's been digging up my flowers and chasing my cat.
M: It is my dog, but you must be mistaken. We keep it in the house all the time, except when we
walk him in the park. There must be another dog that looks like him.
Text 6
W: Excuse me, but I think you've made a wrong turn. You were supposed to turn left on Wilson
Boulevard.
M: Oh, I am sorry. Didn't you say 1323 Wilson
W: No, 3023. It is OK though. You don't have to take me there. I can walk from here,
M: Why don't I just make a U-tum there It's a one-way street; see the sign up ahead. Maybe if I
turn left here, I can come down the next street.
W: We can't do that during rush hour really, though it won't be much trouble. Sometimes one can
wait 30 minutes for a taxi, so I'm happy to get this close.
M: 30 minutes! I' ve been riding around all day looking for passengers.
Text 7
M: Guess where I went this morning. I went to the park at 5:30.
W: You got up so early. Did you have a good time
M: Yes. It was the first time for me to go to the park early in the morning. And I saw many people,
especially old people doing morning exercises.
W: What exercises were they doing
M: They call it Taijiquan.
W: Oh, it's a national sport.
M: Yes. Every day a lot of people practice it in the early morning in a park, on a playground by a
river or along the roadside. In my country, jogging is the most popular sport.
Text 8
M: Hi, Alice, have you made any New Year's resolution
W: Just the usual. I'd like to lose some weight, and I want to save some money.
M: Come on! Everybody makes these resolutions.
W: I know. Henry. Well, I hope I'll get a good job after I graduate this summer, but that's not a
resolution. I'm going to work harder. How about you
M: Hmm. I stopped smoking last June. That was last year's promise to myself.
W: So what do you want to do this year
M: I want to start getting more exercises. I have to lose weight, so I'd like to join a health club.
W: I'd like to, too. Jeff told me he'd like to treat himself to a really nice vacation.
M: Oh Where did he think he would go
W: He might go to a quiet beach in Mexico, or go fishing in Canada. He hasn't made up his mind
yet.
Text 9
W: Now, Mr. Martin. I've just read your own doctor's report. So you/haven't been feeling very
well lately Is that right
M: It's like ... like boiling water running down my leg. It's been getting worse lately, too. I've
been losing sleep.
W: You mean the pain's been keeping you awake
M: Yes, that's right. It's been keeping me awake.
W: Now, tell me, how long have you had this trouble
M: The pain For about a year now.
W: Hmm... Have you been getting tired lately after you have a walk For example, have you been
getting a bit short of breath, perhaps
M: Why, yes! Yes, I have, doctor!
W: Hmm... I think we'd better give you a few tests here in hospital.
M: Do you think it's serious, doctor
W: Probably not.
M: But... Doctor Cook, my local doctor, thinks it's only that I've been working too hard lately.
W: That could be the reason. Don't worry. We'll find out soon.

Hello, listeners. Welcome to Hengtong Hospital Radio. Before our music program at four,
I'm going to repeat some of our hospital rules.
The hospital can sleep 800 patients. There are on average 8 beds in one ward. The visiting
hours are in the afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30 and in the evening from 7:00 to 8:00. But remember
only two people can see you at the same time. sorry about that, but you can imagine what would
happen if we didn't have these rules.
The other rules are about our hours. We start pretty early; you might not be used to that. We
wake you at 6 o'clock, and breakfast is at 8 o'clock, lunch is at noon; there's tea at 3:30 and supper is at 6 o'clock.
You can see the no smoking sign—w/e don't allow smoking in the wards, and the same goes
for alcoholic drinks. I'm sure you understand why. However, if you do need to smoke, there are special areas where it is allowed. You will find the radio switch on the wall near your bed, with
your own headphones, if you want to listen. It is our hospital radio wishing you a speedy recovery.
