It’s time for school! But on May 14th, 170 students at Duncanville High School in Texas, US, were told to go back home. Why? Because they were wearing the wrong clothes to school. Schools in the US don’t always ask students to wear uniforms. But they have dress codes(着装要求). For example, Duncanville High School tells students to wear belts, shirts without logos(标识).
Schools’ most-hated clothes are different. In 2011, the saggy(松垮的) trousers law was passed in Florida. It stops students from wearing trousers that show body parts. Now, “the favourite new target(目标) of the school dress code” is leggings(紧身裤), reported the Associated Press. Some schools don’t allow leggings. Other schools ask students to wear a shirt or a skirt over leggings.
Some students complain(抱怨) that schools are going too far. But schools say dress codes help protect students’ safety and make sure they grow up with good taste.
“We want to teach them that they must meet the expectations (期望) not only here in school, but also outside school,” said Andre Smith.

These days, more and more students in the UK are taking a “gap year” between their graduation from school and their university studies. This means they can take a year off to do something else, before they start their studies.
For most students, spending time in foreign countries is the favorite activity --- and Australia is the favorite place to go.
Many parents, teachers and business people agree that travelling can teach important values.
“After a year of travelling, I felt I’d grown up. I had learnt the importance of relationships with people, on all kinds of levels.”
There are many companies around the world that welcome these students on their projects---helping people in poorer countries, or even in your home country. Although you don’t get paid for your work, this kind of work can teach important skills---decision making and finding answers to problems, for example---that will help many students in a job one day.

Four ways to have a good school life
Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. How can you get the most from them, and make sure you do not waste this excellent chance to learn?
Be active at school
Don't say things are difficult or boring. Be interested in school life and your school subjects. Join in lots of activities. ①(hands, quickly, your, class, in, up, put). Go around the school with a big smile. If you are not working, you are wasting your time at school. Teachers can not make everything enjoyable.
Keep fit
If you do not eat a good breakfast, you will be thinking about food in class. If you go to bed late and do not have enough sleep, you will be sleepy in class. ②Play enough sports every day in order to keep your body strong.
Face the problems
Do not say you will do things tomorrow. If you get behind the class, it is very difficult to get back in front.③You can not finish the race, if you rest all the time. Everyone fails some exams, loses some matches and has bad days. Don't let small problems seem very big and important. Don't forget to ask for help. You are young. No one thinks you must do everything quite well!
④________
Don't waste time lying in bed on Saturday or Sunday morning. Go and play a sport, get together with friends in the park to relax, learn the piano, or help someone with problems. If you don't want to go out, there are also a lot of things to do. You may read a book, practice English or help your mother with housework.
