Text 10
Children really need to know some basic first aid skills. This is true whether your child is four or fourteen. So what should you teach your children?
Calling for help
Once your child reaches the age of four, he should know all about calling 911 in the event of an emergency. Explain all about what a real emergency is. For example, he should call 911 if an adult asks him to, if an adult can't be woken, if there is a fire and he can't find an adult, or if people are hurt.
Cuts and scrapes
Teach children about basic care for cuts and scrapes. In my house, the kids all know that cuts must be cleaned. They also know how to put pressure on a cut to make a cut stop bleeding. Of course they should ask an adult for help, but they should also know a bit about self care. Believe it or not, I had to help a teenage neighbor once who didn't know what to do when he cut his hand on broken glass. He just ran around in a circle.
Burns
Tell your child that if he gets a burn, he should immediately call for help and then run the cool but not cold water for the burn. Getting a burn cooled down quickly can reduce the damage to the skin.
18.What should children be taught at 4 according to the writer?
A.To call out parents' name.
B.To get help from the police.
C.To know what a real emergency is.
答案:B
19.What does the example of the writer's teenage neighbor mainly tell us?
A.Getting help is very important.
B.Even teenagers can cut their hands.
C.Not all teenagers are good at self care.
答案:C
20.What should we do if we get a burn?
A.Look for some clean paper.
B.Put some ice on the burn.
C.Cool the burn under water.
答案:C

I had a picnic one day with my sister. We both like to ride her motorcycle and that day we rode it to the nearest park. We bought some coffee and cakes, and then we enjoyed our food.Within a few hours, the sky changed and looked ready for a heavy rain. We packed everything and were ready to go. My sister, who was sitting on a bench then, suddenly was very still and couldn't talk to me. She couldn't move. Her eyes were rolling and she was about to lose consciousness. I held her in my arms and asked if she wanted to rest. She didn't answer and only said “Sorry.”
It started to rain and I didn't know what to do. She was fighting to stay aware but her skin was pale and her eyes were acting strangely. Suddenly, from nowhere, a woman on a bicycle appeared, wearing a raincoat. “She isn't looking good. Do you want me to call an ambulance?” “Yes, please, yes!” I begged.
She did. Struggling with the rain, she managed to call some policemen, who quickly helped me carry my sister to a safer place. The ambulance arrived and we went to a hospital, where she was treated in time and she came to life the next morning after some rest and medical help.
An interesting fact was that I guessed the woman in the raincoat was a doctor or a nurse. I later learned from one of the police officers who told me:“No. She was an ordinary person who took some courses on emergency situations.”
I am so grateful that she appeared exactly at the right moment. I don't know why or how. I didn't even get the chance to say thanks to her.

One day, Lindsay and Erica were sitting at Lindsay's house working very hard. Fourth grade was tough, and they were working on a science project about weather. Lindsay was a hard worker like Erica, so the two girls were happy to have each other as partners. They were writing about rain and were amazed to learn that Hawaii is the world's wettest place. Lindsay found that Mount Waialeale, on the island of Kauai, gets about 460 inches of rain a year! In 1982, Mount Waialeale set an all?time world record when it received 666 inches of rain! The girls knew that their classmates would find all these facts interesting.
The girls were enjoying the fun facts they were finding when all of a sudden, Lindsay saw Erica choking. Erica had been chewing on a pen cap and had accidentally swallowed it! Erica started pointing to her neck. Lindsay asked her if she was choking. When Erica nodded to say yes, Lindsay quickly stood up and did the Heimlich manoeuvre to try to help Erica stop choking.
Lindsay was afraid of hurting her friend, so the first time she tried the Heimlich manoeuvre, she did not do it very hard. She tried a second time, and nothing happened. After trying it a third time, the pen cap flew out of Erica's mouth!
Erica was very grateful to Lindsay. She was terrified when she realized she had swallowed the pen cap and could not breathe. Lindsay was very brave and saved her friend. This was one science project that both girls would never forget!

The first group of 30 patients was admitted to Wuhan's Leishenshan Hospital yesterday (February 8), which means that two makeshift hospitals for fighting COVID-19—Huoshenshan Hospital and Leishenshan Hospital—were put into use. The two hospitals only have inpatients and don't have outpatients. The target patients are the ones with COVID-19 confirmed in hospital.
Let's go back to the afternoon of January 23, 2020. Wuhan's Urban Renewal Authority (URA) has called a special meeting for the construction of a special hospital for patients infected with 2019-nCoV, including the China Construction Third Engineering Division. Two days later, on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the Wuhan new CAP epidemic prevention and control headquarters again held an emergency dispatch meeting and decided to build another hospital named Leishenshan within half a month.
The construction of the two hospitals is a race to the death against the epidemic. Under the eyes of 100 million “cloud supervisor”, we admire the speed of the construction of these two hospitals, but the hardships and strength behind are far beyond our imagination. As of February 5, more than 1,000 managers and 8,000 operators were working day and night, namely 24 hours of seamless construction work, and there was a continuous flow of more than 1,400 sets of large?scale mechanical equipment and transport vehicles on the spot.
Some builders walk more than 34,000 steps a day. Work models include “day plus night”, “5+2”, “two shifts”—work 24 hours on end a day. The last unit has just finished laying sand on the site, and the next unit immediately enters the field to lay anti?seepage membrane. Dozens of jobs are involved. There are too many units and individuals involved in the construction. No matter how great or small their contributions are, they are all trying to fulfill their own responsibility, social responsibility or corporate responsibility.

Last week, I had a very ordinary experience. And that's extraordinary. I was driving down Interstate 81, returning from a family reunion in the mountains, when the traffic slammed to a halt. There had been a very serious accident just in front of us.
My sister, who is great in a crisis, got out of the car and ran forward while I dug the first?aid kit out of the back and followed. It turned out that a pickup (轻型货车) had crossed the median and hit head?on into a Kia sedan on our side of the highway.
The Kia driver was killed almost instantly, but the pickup driver remained alive. He was partially under his overturned truck. When I got there, someone was already giving first aid to the injured, along with a pair of friends. A group of bystanders came together to lift the truck enough to get the driver out from under it, and then, as the highway police arrived, started at the officers' request to clear the large bits of debris (碎片) from the road.
Lots of people jumped to help, and after the heavy pieces were gone, a couple of folks produced brooms from somewhere and began sweeping the road. The road clearing, however, wasn't to reopen things for traffic, but to enable a medical helicopter could land right next to the wreck. It arrived and soon the injured pickup driver was being flown to a nearby hospital.
Accidents like this happen anywhere, which are usually tragic for their victims, so I had an ordinary experience but one that seemed extraordinary in its own way. When it happened, everyone around rushed forward to help immediately. And more people kept drifting up to help from further away, bringing first-aid kits, bottled water, blankets, or whatever they had that looked helpful. The media and officers today only focus on divisions and wounds. But what I witnessed after a terrible traffic accident shows we're better than that.

Before you are in need of making a survival shelter, be sure to practice and experiment with a variety of materials and survival plans on a regular basis. Clothing is the first line of shelter protection. 18
Signaling
Signaling allows you to get in touch with people who can rescue you without having to be close by. 19
These include using fire and smoke, flashlights, bright colored clothing and other markers, mirrors, and whistles.

Dear Mr President,
In the past week, we have been studying a unit on first aid in English class. As we know, accidents and injuries can occur anytime and anywhere. So first aid is of vital importance.
Therefore, we suggest that our school should launch some related activities to publicize the knowledge of first aid. For instance, courses on first aid can be offered, from which we can learn more professional knowledge in various situations. What's more, posters about the treatment for different injuries can be put up in every corner of our campus. Finally, our school can organize the rescue drills to provide a stage for students to practice and gain hands?on experience in first aid.
I'm looking forward to your solid support.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
The canteen was crowded with summer campers from high schools, all extremely hungry. I spotted an empty place and walked there. Just as I put my tray down, I felt a bump against my hip. The tray dropped on the table and the soup spilt all over my camp shirt and jeans.
“Can't you look where you are going, you clumsy fool!” I shouted, glaring at the troublemaker, a tall boy with wild hair.
“Sorry! Can't help laughing! You look so funny!” said the boy, bending over with laughter. I was too annoyed to respond.
The next morning, the same was spotted by the Camp Commandant before he could slide into place. As a punishment for being late, he was made to do a hundred pushups. As I walked past him later, I let out a loud laugh, saying “Sorry. I can't help laughing. You look so funny.”
So the war of words continued in the following three days with the wild?haired boy, whose name, I found out, was Ben.
A mountain hike marked the last day of the camp. On the way back, I found myself left far behind my team. Soon, they were out of sight. The camp site was a long way away and I was getting anxious as evening fell. I risked taking a shortcut clung to the mountain side, but suddenly, I tripped off the path and slid right down the slope.
Fortunately, my fall was stopped by a bunch of bamboo. I saw I was about ten meters below the track. There was no way I could climb up the slope as evidently I had my ankle broken. After making several vain attempts, I waited hopelessly. It got dark and I became afraid.
Paragraph 1:
Then, I saw a faint light, and heard a voice calling out my name.
Paragraph 2:
The next day, as we were boarding the buses which would take us back to our own homes,

Paragraph 1:
Then, I saw a faint light, and heard a voice calling out my name. I started screaming out loud for help, but my voice sounds so weak down from the slope. Scared and exhausted, I couldn't help thinking that maybe the campers wouldn't find me and I would die alone in the mountain. Finally, I heard “there he is”. I'm saved, thank God! I told them that I had hurt my ankle, and they helped me slowly back to the camp. The next day I was going home for treatment.
Paragraph 2:
The next day, as we were boarding the buses which would take us back to our own homes, Ben came up to me. He said, “this isn't funny at all. I hope you get better soon.” “Thank you, I hope we can be friends from now on.” I said. The battle between me and the wild?haired boy was over, and Ben and I became good friends.
