Scientists in England are using two self璬irected water vehicles to explore the animal and plant life of the Celtic Sea.
The Celtic Sea is a body of water off the southern coast of Ireland. The area is known for its unusual sea life.Scientists want to know why sea creatures are so attracted to this part of the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the research vehicles is powered by batteries (电池).It collects information for the National Oceanography Center in Southampton,England, and the World Wildlife Fund. The vehicle's low energy requirements permit it to stay floating on water for up to 30 days.Reports of what it finds in the Celtic Sea are sent by satellite.
Stephen Woodward is an engineer who helped design the vehicle. He says the vehicle has equipment that can discover small organisms called zooplankton (浮游动物) and fish.He adds that other sensing equipment measures water currents and other features of sea life. The vehicle also creates a map of the sea.
Another vehicle is powered by the sun and the wind.It can stay floating on water for months. The robotic vehicle sends information about the so璫alled biodiversity hotspots.A biodiversity hotspot is an area of an ocean that has a lot of plant and animal life activity.
Lavinia Suberg is one of the scientists studying the Celtic Sea.She says productive ocean areas, like the Celtic Sea,attract zooplankton. The zooplankton then attracts fish. She adds that areas with a large increase of fish often attract sea mammals and birds.
Using these robotic ocean vehicles greatly reduces the cost of exploring the sea with manned laboratories.Scientists can spend more time analyzing the collected information. They say the research will give them a better understanding of the needs of the Celtic Sea for future management and protection.

Some people asked me how I could suggest the expenses of billions of dollars for a voyage to Mars,at a time when many children on this Earth are starving to death.I know that they do not expect an answer such as“Oh,I did not know that there are children dying from hunger, but from now on I will stop any kind of space research until mankind has solved that problem!” In fact,I have known of this long before.
But I firmly believe that by working for the space program we can make some contributions to the relief and eventual solution of such serious problems as poverty and hunger on the earth. Two basic factors causing the poverty and hunger problems are the production of food and the distribution (分布) of food.In fact, large areas of land could be used far better if efficient methods of farming, fertilizer use, weather forecasting, field selection, planting, crop surveys, harvest planning and so on were applied. The best tool for the improvement of all these methods undoubtedly is the artificial Earth satellite.Circling the globe at a high altitude,it can screen wide areas of land within a short time;it can observe and measure a large variety of factors indicating the status and condition of crops, soil, droughts, rainfall, snow cover, etc.
Besides,in modern society, there is a continuing great need for new basic knowledge in science if we wish to improve the conditions of human life on the earth. We need more knowledge in physics and chemistry,in biology and physiology, and particularly in medicine to cope with all these problems which threaten man's life:hunger, disease, overpopulation, pollution of water and the environment. In a way,the space age not only holds out a mirror in which we can see ourselves,it also provides us with the technologies.

Experts will build a house called Curve Appeal, which will be 3D?printed off?site before being put together on?site to create two outside walls,a roof and an inside part. These four main sections will then be joined together.

The architects leading the program were famed for constantly pushing the limits in terms of minimalist (极简主义) materials, and trying to create open?plan spaces that focused on enhancing (增强) natural light. In a written statement,a spokesman for WATG said,“Employing many of the same modern design principles,Curve Appeal is the next evolutionary step. It's important that the architecture and the environment work together harmoniously. The chosen site is steps away from the Tennessee River in a beautiful wooded, sunlit area.”
WATG was awarded the first prize in the Free?form Home Design Challenge in 2016 and given prize money of $8,000 to make its plans a reality. The competition was aimed at architects, designers, engineers and artists.Participants were challenged to design a 600 to 800 sqft single?family home that rethinks traditional aesthetics (美学),ergonomics, construction, building systems and structure.
Over the last year,WATG's Chicago office has been developing their design with Branch Technology. This project is currently underway, working towards breaking ground later this year.Once completed, the Curve Appeal home will have open and light?filled inside living spaces.

Experts will build a house called Curve Appeal, which will be 3D?printed off?site before being put together on?site to create two outside walls,a roof and an inside part. These four main sections will then be joined together.
Although 3D?printed buildings have been made before, this home—to be constructed in Chattanooga,Tennessee, later this year—will be the first of its kind,as it will contain no regular shapes or angles. The house is the creation of the design company WATG,based in London and California. The design for Curve Appeal draws inspiration from the Case Study House program.
This project is currently underway, working towards breaking ground later this year.Once completed, the Curve Appeal home will have open and light?filled inside living spaces.

remind sb of ...是固定短语,表示“使某人想起……”。
60.production 考查词性转换。空处位于形容词agricultural之后,与the rural economy并列,因此用其名词形式。
61.themselves 考查代词。由主语they可知,空处应用其反身代词作宾语。
62.Although/Though/While 考查连词。由语境可知,这里是说虽然近年来大多数农村地区的经济增长了,但农民收入并未大幅增加。由此可知,空处引导的是让步状语从句,故填Although/Though/While。

At the words, Michelle went to her bedroom and took out all the coins from her little moneybox. After counting the coins three times, she slipped out the back door and made her way to the drug store six blocks away.
She waited for a long time before the pharmacist (药剂师) turned around and asked her.“And what do you want?”
“Well, it's about my brother,” Michelle answered.“He's really, really sick ...and I want to buy a miracle.”
“I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist.“His name is Jack and he has something very bad growing inside his body and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now.So how much does a miracle cost?”
“We don't sell miracles here, little girl.I'm sorry but I can't help you,” the pharmacist said.“Listen, I have the money to pay for it.” And with these words, Michelle poured out all the coins from her pockets. At this time, a well?dressed man behind Michelle stooped down and asked the little girl.“I'm selling the miracle you want.Tell me how much money you have.”
“One dollar and eleven cents,” Michelle answered in a low voice.“And it's all the money I have, but I can get some more if I need to.”

When asked why he chose to help the family, the man detailed, “when I was young myself, I was once in the same situation as the little baby. The little girl reminded me of my own sister. It was she who saved my life.Deeply impressed by her innocence, I finally decided to help the family out of trouble. It doesn't matter how much money she actually had with her; what matters is her faith, a faith that miracles do exist.”
