阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Traveling
to
a
foreign
country
can
make
you
frightened
if
you
don't
know
the
local
language.
Mr.
Thibault
has
a
number
of
tips
to
help
travelers
manage
in
a
destination
when
they
don't
speak
the
native
tongue,
based
on
his
own
experience.
Here
are
a
few
of
them.
●Download
a
Language
Translation
App
Mr.
Thibault
tends
to
rely
on
Google
Translate
and
suggests
that
travelers
find
an
app
that
works
for
them.
Ideally,
find
one
that
specializes
in
the
language
you
need
to
translate
especially
if
the
language
uses
a
character
set
you're
not
familiar
with,
or
have
difficulty
pronouncing.
●Speak
with
Your
Hands
and
Head
Pointing
with
your
hands
and
nodding
or
shaking
your
head,
Mr.
Thibault
said,
are
easy
ways
to
communicate
with
locals
in
the
country
you're
in.
“Gestures
are
all
universally
understood,”
he
said.
●Learn
a
Few
Key
Words
Knowing
basic
words
and
phrases
like
“hello”,
“thank
you”
and
“I'm
sorry,
I
don't
speak
your
language.
Do
you
speak
English?”
is
a
must,
Mr.
Thibault
said.
Showing
that
you
care
enough
to
learn
some
of
the
language
before
you
go,
and
at
least
enough
to
acknowledge
that
you
don't
know
more,
is
a
form
of
respect
and
will
go
a
long
way
to
be
liked
by
locals.
●Work
with
a
Local
Travel
Agent
If
you
feel
particularly
uncomfortable
in
the
country
you're
headed
to,
and
you
have
to
go
anyway,
relying
on
a
local
travel
agent
who
knows
both
your
and
your
destination's
languages
can
be
incredibly
useful.
●Hire
a
Local
Tour
Guide
A
tour
guide
can
help
you
get
a
better
grasp
of
the
local
language
and
is
a
good
person
to
practice
words
and
phrases
with.
Whenever
Mr.
Thibault
visits
a
new
country,
he
books
a
sightseeing
tour
with
a
guide
on
the
first
day
of
his
trip.
“I
use
this
day
to
learn
about
my
destination
and
get
familiar
with
the
language,”
he
said.
21.In
what
situation
should
a
language
translation
app
be
applied
while
traveling
abroad?
A.When
you
have
trouble
pronouncing
the
words.
B.When
you
want
to
acknowledge
your
ignorance.
C.When
you
want
to
practice
the
local
language.
D.When
you
feel
uncomfortable
in
the
country.
22.What
is
the
easiest
way
to
communicate
with
foreigners
according
to
the
text?
A.Downloading
a
language
translation
app.
B.Learning
a
few
key
words.
C.Using
body
language.
D.Working
with
a
guide.
23.How
can
you
better
understand
the
local
language?
A.By
speaking
with
your
hands
and
head.
B.By
learning
a
few
key
words.
C.By
downloading
a
language
translation
app.
D.By
hiring
a
local
tour
guide.

Scientists
are
preparing
to
launch
the
world’s
first
machine
to
clean
up
the
planet’s
largest
mass
of
ocean
plastic.
The
experts
believe
the
machine
should
be
able
to
collect
half
of
the
detritus
in
the
patch

about
40,000
metric
tons

within
five
years.In
the
past
few
weeks
they
have
been
busy
welding
together
giant
tubes
that
will
sit
on
the
surface
of
the
sea
and
form
the
skeleton
of
the
machine,
creating
the
largest
floating
barrier
ever
made.
The
system,
originally
dreamt
up
by
Mr.Slat,
will
be
shipped
out
this
summer
to
the
Great
Pacific
Garbage
Patch,
between
Hawaii
and
California,
which
contains
estimated
1.8
trillion
pieces
of
plastic.It
will
be
the
first
ever
attempt
to
tackle
the
patch
since
it
was
discovered
in
1997.
Mr.Slat
was
16
and
still
at
school
when
he
was
diving
in
Greece
and
first
saw
for
himself
the
amount
of
plastic
polluting
the
sea.“There
were
more
bags
than
fish
down
there,”
he
recalls.Two
years
later
he
came
up
with
a
solution,
quit
university
after
six
months
and
set
up
The
Ocean
Cleanup
as
a
company.Mr.Slat
says
the
first
plastic
to
arrive
on
shore
will
be
a
major
milestone.“We
as
humanity
created
this
problem,
so
I
think
it’s
also
our
responsibility
to
help
solve
it,”
he
says.
The
Great
Pacific
Garbage
Patch
covers
an
area
of
1.6
million
square
kilometers
and
contains
at
least
79,000
tons
of
plastic,
research
found
last
month.Most
of
it
is
made
up
of
“ghost
gear”

parts
of
abandoned
and
lost
fishing
gear,
such
as
nets
and
ropes

often
from
illegal
fishing
vessels.
Ghost
gear
kills
more
than
100,000
whales,
dolphins
and
seals
each
year,
according
to
scientific
surveys.Seabirds
and
other
marine
life
are
increasingly
being
found
dead
with
stomachs
full
of
small
pieces
of
plastic.Creatures
eat
plastic
discarded
in
the
sea
thinking
it’s
food
but
then
starve
to
death
because
they
are
not
feeding
properly.Others
are
trapped
and
die
of
starvation
or
are
strangled
or
suffocated
by
ghost
gear.
24.What

the
underlined
word
in
the
second
paragraph
probably
mean?
A.Waste.
B.Ocean.
C.System.

25.Which
one
makes
up
most
of
the
garbage
in

and
seals.
C.Giant
tubes.
D.Abandoned
fishing
gear.
26.Why
do
some
creatures
in
The
Great
Pacific
Garbage
Patch
die
of
starvation?
A.Because
they
are
killed
by
ghost
gear.
B.Because
they
are
suffocated
by
ghost
gear.
C.Because
they
don’t
like
eating
plastic.
D.Because
they
are
not
feeding
properly.
27.What
is
the
main
idea
of
the
passage?
A.A
report
about
the
death
of
marine
life.
B.News
about
the
first
machine
to
clean
up
ocean
plastic.
C.Information
about
ocean
plastic.

As
parents,
we
walk
a
fine
line
between
caring
for
our
children
and
teaching
them
how
to
care
for
themselves.
When
they're
little,
they
need
our
help
with
everything.
Over
time,
kids
usually
take
the
lead
on
things
like
feeding
and
dressing
themselves,
but
it
can
be
difficult
to
know
when
it's
time
for
them
to
start
doing
some
basic
things,
such
as
packing
their
own
lunches
for
school
or
solving
problems
with
teachers
without
a
parent's
help.
Blogger
Amy
Carney
recently
shared
a
post
about
the
things
parents
should
stop
doing
for
their
teens.
In
it,
Carney
shared
the
basic
skills
that
she
expects
her
kids
to
master
by
the
time
they
hit
13,
such
as
waking
themselves
up
in
the
morning,
making
their
own
breakfast
and
lunch,
and
finishing
their
own
homework.
Barb
Harvey,
a
childhood
behavior
expert,
gave
me
her
answer:
The
age
at
which
children
learn
to
master
certain
skills
will
be
different
depending
upon
the
maturity
(成熟)
and
interest
level
of
the
child.
I
asked
the
same
question
among
my
friends.
They
gave
all
kinds
of
answers,
which
can
explain
Harvey's
opinion.
Therefore,
there's
only
one
expert
who
can
determine
when
your
kids
have
the
ability
to
deal
with
certain
skills,
and
that's
you.
If
your
kids
aren't
ready
to
pack
their
own
lunches

don't
sweat
it.
Help
them
learn
the
skills
they're
ready
to
deal
with
and
keep
working
towards
the
end
goal
of
raising
responsible
and
able
adults.
Because
if
there's
one
thing
that
we
can
all
agree
on
as
parents,
it's
that
time
moves
quickly
when
you're
raising
kids.
One
day
you
will
wish
they
could
just
do
things
without
you
and
the
next
day,
you
will
feel
upset
that
they
do.
28.What
is
Amy
Carney's
expectation
when
her
children
are
13?
A.To
be
a
skillful
cook.
B.To
follow
Harvey's
opinion.
C.To
be
an
expert.
D.To
have
basic
skills.
29.Who
can
decide
when
the
children
will
learn
to
care
for
themselves?
A.Amy
Carney.
B.Barb
Harvey.
C.The
children.
D.The
parents.
30.Why
will
parents
feel
upset
when
their
children
grow
up?
A.Their
kids
can
do
nothing.
B.They
feel
less
important.
C.Their
children
become
able
adults.
D.Their
kids
disagree
on
anything.
31.What
does
the
text
mainly
talk
about?
A.Walking
a
fine
line.
B.Blogger
Amy
Carney.
C.Parents
and
their
children's
growth.
D.A
childhood
behavior
expert.

The
number
of
buses,
taxis
and
other
vehicles
on
Kenya’s
roads
is
growing
every
day.Now,
the
country’s
first
electric?powered
motorbikes
are
coming
onto
the
market.The
bike
is
designed
to
cut
down
on
pollution
and
aimed
at
low?income
communities.Most
motorbikes
used
in
Kenya
depend
on
gasoline,
but
not
this
new
motorbike.
Three
university
students
developed
the
new
ecotran
bike.It
catches
the
sun’s
energy,
stores
it
in
batteries
and
uses
it
to
charge
(充电)
the
electric
motor.Robert
Achoge
is
one
of
the
student
inventors.
“Our
hope
is
that
by
the
fifth
year,
we
will
be
able
to
cover
the
whole
of
Kenya
with
the
electric
motorcycle
so
as
to
protect
the
environment
and
provide
affordable
transport.”
The
students
have
set
up
a
charging
station
for
the
motorbikes
in
Nairobi.The
small
battery
can
run
for
70
kilometers
when
fully
charged.Once
the
power
is
used
up,
the
motorbike
has
to
return
to
the
station
while
another
charged
battery
is
connected
to
the
bike.The
U.S.African
Development
Foundation
(ADF)
is
helping
set
up
two
solar?powered
charging
stations
in
the
port
of
Kisumu.
Each
ecotran
bike
costs
about
D|S700.One
taxi
operator
says,
the
new
motorbike
costs
less
to
operate
than
that
running
on
traditional
gasoline.“When
it
comes
to
buying
gasoline,
there’s
no
need.It’s
basically
good
for
various
things.As
long
as
you
won’t
take
quite
a
heavy
load
(装载),
you
can
go
with
it
anywhere.
Otherwise,
it
may
break
down
halfway.But
now
people
still
have
a
preference
to
the
gas?powered
bikes.”
A
Nairobi
businessman
Kennedy
Kusimba
is
selling
the
ecotran
bikes.He
hopes
they
will
become
popular.“We
also
know
they
are
more
reliable
compared
to
the
gas?powered

are
more
efficient

and
they
will
last

the
road.

fewer
buses
and
taxis
in
the
street.
D.Traditional
motorbikes
don’t
need
gasoline
any
more.

do
we
know
about
the
ecotran
bike?

by

How

I

W:
OK.
I
will

M:
Oh,
these

I’ll

W:
No.
I’m
here
to
attend
a
three-week
course.
M:
What
are
you
studying,
then?
W:
It’s
more
like
a
training
course.
I’m
a
school
teacher,
and
the
course
is
about
a
special
teaching
method.
It’s
for
helping
children
who
have
difficulty
in
reading.
M:What
does
that
mean?
W:
Well,
it’s
not
that
they
don’t
know
how
to
read,
but
rather,
they
can’t
understand
what
they
read.
M:
Okay.
I
thought
it
was
for
kids
who
can’t
see
clearly.
Anyway,
it
sounds
very
meaningful.
W:
Thanks.
M:
Is
Sydney
the
only
place
where
you
can
take
this
course?
W:
No,
but
it’s
much
cheaper
here.)
It
also
lasts
longer,
which
means
it
provides
more
information.

M:

W:
Sure.
Would
you
like
to
get
the
regular
kind?
M:
How
much
is
it?
W:
It’ll
be
$20
for
the
card
itself.
And
you
need
to
put
at
least
$30
on
it.
M:
Hmm…I’m
only
visiting
the
city
for
6
days,
so
do
you
think
it
would
be
a
good
idea
for
me
to
get
the
regular
card?
W:
Well,
in
that
case,
I’d
recommend
a
7-day
pass.
It’ll
be
$55,
and
you
can
take
unlimited
trips
on
all
public
transportation
except
for
taxis.
M:
Sounds
like
a
great
deal.
W:
Yes,
if
you’ll
be
riding
the
subway
and
the
buses
frequently.
M:
By
the
way,
my
hotel
doesn’t
have

Can
I
use
it
for
the

W:
No.
You
need
to

OK,
thanks.
I’ll
take
a
7-day

I’m

Then
do
you

They’re
both
by
the
same

W:
Let

There

two

though
all
six
copies
of

have

M:
Do
you

the

W:
We’re
supposed
to

But
The

will

W:
No

Good
morning,
everyone,
this
is
John
Simon
from
the
daily
radio
show
Weather
of
the
Week.
The
heat
wave
that
arrived
last
weekend
is
showing
no
sign
of
going
away
this
week.
According
to
the
forecast,
the
weather
this
week
will
be
as
hot
as
it
was
over
the
weekend.
Today’s
weather
forecast
suggests
that
the
temperature
could
climb
to
as
high
as
36
degrees
by
the
early
afternoon.
And
right
now,
at
only
8:00
in
the
morning,
the
temperature
here
at
the
city
center
is
already
27
degrees,
and
there’s
no
doubt
that
it
will
reach
30
degrees
around
lunch
time.
But
don’t
worry
too
much
because
there
is
also
good
news.
There
will
be
some
wind
coming
our
way
later
around
4:00
in
the
afternoon.
Therefore,
it
should
be
quite
comfortable
in
the
evening
today.
Unfortunately,
there
is
still
no
rain
in

Traveling
to
a
foreign
country
can
make
you
frightened
if
you
don't
know
the
local
language.
Mr.
Thibault
has
a
number
of
tips
to
help
travelers
manage
in
a
destination
when
they
don't
speak
the
native
tongue,
based
on
his
own
experience.
Here
are
a
few
of
them.
●Download
a
Language
Translation
App
Mr.
Thibault
tends
to
rely
on
Google
Translate
and
suggests
that
travelers
find
an
app
that
works
for
them.
Ideally,
find
one
that
specializes
in
the
language
you
need
to
translate
especially
if
the
language
uses
a
character
set
you're
not
familiar
with,
or
have
difficulty
pronouncing.
●Speak
with
Your
Hands
and
Head
Pointing
with
your
hands
and
nodding
or
shaking
your
head,
Mr.
Thibault
said,
are
easy
ways
to
communicate
with
locals
in
the
country
you're
in.
“Gestures
are
all
universally
understood,”
he
said.
●Learn
a
Few
Key
Words
Knowing
basic
words
and
phrases
like
“hello”,
“thank
you”
and
“I'm
sorry,
I
don't
speak
your
language.
Do
you
speak
English?”
is
a
must,
Mr.
Thibault
said.
Showing
that
you
care
enough
to
learn
some
of
the
language
before
you
go,
and
at
least
enough
to
acknowledge
that
you
don't
know
more,
is
a
form
of
respect
and
will
go
a
long
way
to
be
liked
by
locals.
●Work
with
a
Local
Travel
Agent
If
you
feel
particularly
uncomfortable
in
the
country
you're
headed
to,
and
you
have
to
go
anyway,
relying
on
a
local
travel
agent
who
knows
both
your
and
your
destination's
languages
can
be
incredibly
useful.
●Hire
a
Local
Tour
Guide
A
tour
guide
can
help
you
get
a
better
grasp
of
the
local
language
and
is
a
good
person
to
practice
words
and
phrases
with.
Whenever
Mr.
Thibault
visits
a
new
country,
he
books
a
sightseeing
tour
with
a
guide
on
the
first
day
of
his
trip.
“I
use
this
day
to
learn
about
my
destination
and
get
familiar
with
the
language,”
he
said.

Scientists

clean
up
the
planet’s

plastic.
The
experts
believe
the
machine
should
be
able
to
collect
half
of
the
detritus
in
the
patch

about
40,000
metric

within
five

of
the
machine,
creating
the
largest
floating
barrier
ever
made.
The
system,
originally
dreamt
up
by
Mr.Slat,
will
be
shipped
out
this
summer
to
the
Great
Pacific
Garbage
Patch,
between
Hawaii
and
California,
which
contains
estimated
1.8
trillion
pieces
of
plastic.It
will
be
the
first
ever
attempt
to
tackle
the
patch
since
it
was
discovered
in
1997.
Mr.Slat
was
16
and
still
at
school
when
he
was
diving
in
Greece
and
first
saw
for
himself
the
amount
of
plastic
polluting
the
sea.“There
were
more
bags
than
fish
down
there,”
he
recalls.Two
years
later
he
came
up
with
a
solution,
quit
university
after
six
months
and
set
up
The
Ocean
Cleanup
as
a
company.Mr.Slat
says
the
first
plastic
to
arrive
on
shore
will
be
a
major
milestone.“We
as
humanity
created
this
problem,
so
I
think
it’s
also
our
responsibility
to
help
solve
it,”
he
says.
The
Great
Pacific
Garbage
Patch
covers
an
area
of
1.6
million
square
kilometers
and
contains
at
least
79,000
tons
of
plastic,
research
found
last
month.Most
of
it
is
made
up
of
“ghost
gear”

parts
of
abandoned
and
lost
fishing
gear,
such
as
nets
and
ropes

often
from
illegal
fishing
vessels.
Ghost
gear
kills
more
than
100,000
whales,
dolphins
and
seals
each
year,
according
to
scientific
surveys.Seabirds
and
other
marine
life
are
increasingly
being
found
dead
with

eat
plastic

thinking
it’s
food
but
then
starve
to
death
because
they
are
not

are

or
are
strangled
or
suffocated
by
ghost
gear.

C
As
parents,
we
walk
a
fine
line
between
caring
for
our
children
and
teaching
them
how
to
care
for
themselves.
When
they're
little,
they
need
our
help
with
everything.
Over
time,
kids
usually
take
the
lead
on
things
like
feeding
and
dressing
themselves,
but
it
can
be
difficult
to
know
when
it's
time
for
them
to
start
doing
some
basic
things,
such
as
packing
their
own
lunches
for
school
or
solving
problems
with
teachers
without
a
parent's
help.
Blogger
Amy
Carney
recently
shared
a
post
about
the
things
parents
should
stop
doing
for
their
teens.
In
it,
Carney
shared
the
basic
skills
that
she
expects
her
kids
to
master
by
the
time
they
hit
13,
such
as
waking
themselves
up
in
the
morning,
making
their
own
breakfast
and
lunch,
and
finishing
their
own
homework.
Barb
Harvey,
a
childhood
behavior
expert,
gave
me
her
answer:
The
age
at
which
children
learn
to
master
certain
skills
will
be
different
depending
upon
the
maturity
(成熟)
and
interest
level
of
the
child.
I
asked
the
same
question
among
my
friends.
They
gave
all
kinds
of
answers,
which
can
explain
Harvey's
opinion.
Therefore,
there's
only
one
expert
who
can
determine
when
your
kids
have
the
ability
to
deal
with
certain
skills,
and
that's
you.
If
your
kids
aren't
ready
to
pack
their
own
lunches

don't
sweat
it.
Help
them
learn
the
skills
they're
ready
to
deal
with
and
keep
working
towards
the
end
goal
of
raising
responsible
and
able
adults.
Because
if
there's
one
thing
that
we
can
all
agree
on
as
parents,
it's
that
time
moves
quickly
when
you're
raising
kids.
One
day
you
will
wish
they
could
just
do
things
without
you
and
the
next
day,
you
will
feel
upset
that
they
do.

If
