27-year-old

health
worker
and
filmmaker
Elyse
Fox
knows

pain,
even
the
painful
thoughts

killing
myself,"
she
says.
In
2016,
Elyse
started
a
programme
called
Conversations
with
Friends
where
she
decided
to
get
real
about
her
mental
health.
Elyse
got
thousands
of
emails
from
girls
sharing
stories
of
their
depression
and
talking
about
how
they
had
no
one
to
share
with.
That's
when
Elyse
created
Sad
Girls
Club.
"It's
a
place
where
girls
can
just
discuss
their
mental
illnesses
freely
and
create
a
home
around
mental
illness
instead
of
feeling
ashamed
of
it,"
she
says.
"I'm
trying
to
make
Sad
Girls
Club's
monthly
meetings,
which
take
place
in
New
York,
super
fun
but
not
like
a
standard
medical
treatment."
For
the
meeting
activities,
Elyse
tries
to
get
her
group
feeling
open
and
creative.
Some
meetings
are
outside,
picnic-style,
so
that
members
can
relax
and
get
to
know
one
another.
Beyond
the
fun
meetings,
Elyse
has
a
bigger
goal
when
it
comes
to
mental
health
awakening
for
all
girls.
She
says,
"I
just
want
to
move
openness
and
weakness
because
I
feel
like
that's
something
unpleasant,
but
we're
all
humans
and
we
all
have
feelings
and
that
should
be

be
