Jack
Dorsey
and
DeRay
Mckesson:
The
story
of
an
unexpected
friendship
As
a
protest(抗议)
was
breaking
out
in
Ferguson
in
2014,
two
men
with
little
in
common
went
to
the
outside
of
St.
Louis
city
center
to
see
the
protest
for
themselves.
It
was
Twitter
that
would
later
bring
them
together.
One
man
was
Twitter
co-founder(联合创始人)
Jack
Dorsey
and
the
other
was
new
and
young

and
soon
to
be
a
leader
and
activist
DeRay
Mckesson.
Dorsey
explained
that
he
went
there
to
see
what
was
going
on.
At
the
same
time,
Mckesson
was
watching
the
protests
on
TV
and
in
his
Twitter
feed
and
noticed
"
disagreement
"
between
them,
so
he
drove
nine
hours
from
Minneapolis
to
see
for
himself.
Dorsey
and
Mckesson
did
not
find
each
other
immediately.
Honestly,
Mckesson
didn’t
know
who
Dorsey
was.
He
thought
it
was
that
Twitter
guy,
so
he
took
Dorsey's
picture
and
tweeted
it.
Dorsey
noticed
and
started
following
him.
Dorsey
noted
how
activists
were
using
Twitter
to
share
what
was
happening
in
Ferguson.McKesson,
however,
said
six
second
videos
weren't
enough.
He
was
really
happy
when
it
was
bought.
Ferguson
pushed
Mckesson
into
the
center
of
public
attention
and
also
created
a
friendship
between
him
and
Dorsey
that
lasts
to
this
day.
Both
men
do
agree
that
even
with
the
challenges,
Twitter
faces
on
the
safety
and
growth
sides,
it
plays
an
important
role
in
public
words
and
showing
people
what’s
really
going
on.
Dorsey
did
note
that
he
’s
fixed
his
eyes
on
speed,
daily
work
and
serving
the
use-cases
in
which
Twitter
is
better
than
others.
One
is
real-time
live
and
breaking
news.
The
other
is
finding
groups
and
conversations.
Dorsey
wants
to
make
sure
that
when
newcomers
arrive
to
Twitter,
they
are
easy
to
know
how
to
use
it
and
gain
from
it.
In
the
meantime.
Mckesson
keeps
suggesting
new
Twitter
advantages.
Dorsey
joked
that
maybe
he
should
invite
him
to
work
for
Twitter.

交流
【中文标题】流量和读者之间的区别
【本文导读】本文是一篇记叙文,重点介绍了博客的流量和读者之间的区别以及如何保持一定的流量并吸引读者,同时为博主如何维持读者数量提出了建议。
【答案详解】
1.
D细节理解题。根据第一段的第二句“they
mean
pretty
much
the
same
thing
that
means
visitors
to
your
blog(它们意味着几乎一样的事物,即你博客的访客)”可理解“they”指上文的“traffic
and
readers”,故选D。
2.
A推理判断题。根据第二段第三句“They
might
subscribe,
leave
words,
share
your
posts,
and
even
buy
from
you(他们可能会订阅,留言,分享你的贴子,甚至从你处购物)”可理解“they”指上文的“Readers”,选项A和句中动词“subscribe”同源,根据句意可推理“Readers”包括“订阅者、留言者、分享者、购物者”,故选A。
3.
C细节理解题。选项C与第三段第二句“you
probably
still
want
a
large
number
of
lasting
visitors(你可能仍然想要大量持久的访客)”和第三句“you
want
lots
of
passing
traffic(你想要的是大量的流量)”的意义相符;A选项与本文不符;原文“Readers
aren’t
just
visitors

they’re
people
who
come
back
to
your
blog
again
and
again.”与B选项的信息“visitors”不符;D选项与原文“If
your
blog
is
only
to
bring
in
advertising
money,
then
you
don’t
really
want
sticking
readers

you
want
lots
of
passing
traffic”不符,故选C。
4.
C推理判断题。根据第四段第二句“New
visitors
are
important

some
will
stick
around
and
become
readers(新访客很重要——有些人会留下来成为读者)”和第三句“If
someone
reads
several
of
your
posts,
leaves
a
comment,
and
subscribes,
it’s
pretty
clear
that
they’re
interested
in
what
you
have
said.
They’re
readers(如果有人读了你的几篇文章,留下评论,并订阅了你的文章,很明显,他们对你说的话很感兴趣。他们是读者)”可推断与选项C意义相符,选项A与第四段第一句意义相反,选项B与第四段第二句意义不符,选项D与第四段第五句意义相反,故选C。
5.
B词义猜测题。根据文章第一段第一句“If
you’ve
had
a
blog
for
a
long
time
or
even
if
you’re
yet
to
start
your
blog,
you’ll
have
heard
two
most
popular
terms:
traffic
and
readers”和第二段第一句“Traffic
includes
people
who
visit
your
blog
for
a
couple
of
seconds
then
go
away”以及常识可猜测选项B符合上下文的逻辑,故选B。

Why
do
kids
like
to
go
to
birthday
parties?
Because
there
is
lots
of
sugar
and
other
kids.
Energy
economics(经济)
has
drawn
a
lot
of
new
bright
minds.
The
reason
is
simple.
It’s
an
important
topic
and
the
people
working
in
this
space
are
people
you
want
to
be
with.
However,
water
economics
has
not
experienced
the
same.
Although
there
are
some
world
class
economists
working
on
this
important
matter,
there
is
no
rush
into
this
field.
Why
am
I
thinking
about
this?
The
repeated
calls
for
me
to
save
water
go
like
this.“Dear
Dr.
Auffhammer,
please
use
your
water
less
by
20%
this
summer.
There’s
a
drought(干旱).
Thanks
a
lot.”
Well,
here
is
my
reply.
Dear
Sir/Madam:
Thank
you
for
your
very
nice
note
asking
me
to
save
water,
but
I
have
three
questions
with
your
call.
I
get
a
letter
every
three
months
telling
me
how
much
water
I
used.
I
have
no
idea
or
way
to
know
exactly
how
much
water
I
use
because
my
water
meter(表)is
an
old
one
with
a
needle.
It
must
be
possible
to
replace
the
19th-century
meter
with
something
that
puts
my
water
information
to
my
phone.
2.
How
about
charging(收费)
me
more
for
water
in
summers
when
there
is
a
drought
and
less
water!
If
you
raised
my
charge
by
25%,
I
would
use
less
and
less
even
without
a
meter.
I
am
afraid
of
more
charge.
3.
How
about
you
make
some
real-time
meters
and
let
us
energy
people
do
some
experiments!
Some
of
the
best
work
in
energy
economics
has
done
some
experiments
to
help
us
better
understand
households’
price
of
electricity.
Water
can
be
the
same.
While
I
understand
that
this
is
a
major
change
in
the
way
we
study
water
demand,
now
is
the
time.
The
information
we
gain
will
lead
to
a
better
understanding
of
water.
Best
wishes,
Dr.
Max

【中文标题】一封节约用水的回信
【本文导读】本文是一篇应用文,重点介绍了马克斯博士博客的一封节约用水的回信起因与内容。马克斯博士关心水经济的原因是反复收到节约用水的电话。作者回信提出了3个建议。并对改进水表和收水费方式提出了建议。
【答案详解】
1.
D推理判断题。根据第一段的后三句和第二段的前两句可推断,作者写前两句是想引出“水经济学家比能源经济学家少”的话题。A、B是字面的意思;文中未涉及C。故选D。
2.
A细节理解题。根据第二段第三、四句“Why
am
I
thinking
about
this?
The
repeated
calls
for
me
to
save
water
go
like
this(我为什么要考虑这个?对我节约用水的反复电话是这样的。)”可理解选项A符合原文的一问一答。B、C、D都不符合原文的意思。故选A。
3.
C细节理解题。选项C与回信的第一点“my
water
meter
is
an
old
one
with
a
needle”不符符;A、B、D选项与第三、四段的原文“I
have
three
questions
with
your
call;I
get
a
letter
every
three
months
telling
me
how
much
water
I
used和It
must
be
possible
to
replace
the
19th-century
meter
with
something”相符。故选C。
4.
C推理判断题。根据第五段第一句“How
about
charging
me
more
for
water
in
summers
when
there
is
a
drought
and
less
water!
(因为夏天干旱少水而多收我的水费如何!)”可推断夏季收费和其他季节所收水费一样,与选项C意义相符。选项A是作者的建议,并非实际征收;选项B、D与第五段第二、三句“If
you
raised
my
charge
by
25%,
I
would
use
less
and
less
even
without
a
meter.
I
am
afraid
of
more
charge.
”不符。故选C。
5.
B词义猜测题。根据上下文和文章最后一段“While
I
understand
that
this
is
a
major
change
in
the
way
we
study
water
demand,
now
is
the
time.
The
information
we
gain
will
lead
to
a
better
understanding
of
water(虽然我知道这是我们研究需水量方式的一个_____变化,但现在是时候了。我们获得的信息将有助于更好地了解水)”可猜测选项B符合上下文的逻辑。故选B。
