1.That morning, we noticed a cab following Sir Henry and Dr.Mortimer in London. But who?
We went to Sir Henry's hotel. Holmes asked Dr. Mortimer if anyone with a black beard lived in or near Baskerville Hall.
"Yes," said Dr.Mortimer,"Barrymore."
"We must send a telegram to check whether Barrymore is in London or at Baskerville Hall,"said Holmes.
Sir Henry said he wanted to go to Baskerville Hall.
"OK", said Holmes. "But you mustn't go alone. Watson can go with you."
Sir Henry and I agreed to take the 10:30 train on Saturday.
Holmes thought deeply on the way home: the story of the Hound, Sir Charles's death, the strange letter, the missing boot and the black﹣bearded man. He sat in his room all afternoon, smoking and thinking.
Just before dinner, a telegram arrived. It said,"Barrymore is at Baskerville Hall."
"That becomes a dead end, Watson. We will have to look for another way to go forward.
Just then the door bell rang. It was the cab driver who drove the man with the black beard. "I got a message that you are asking for me", he said. "I've never had a complaint. I came here to ask you what you had against me! "
"No, no," said Holmes. "Instead, I'll give you money if you tell me about the man in your cab this morning. He watched this house at 10:00 and then told you to follow the two gentlemen."
The driver looked surprised and then answered,"The man said he was a detective( 侦 探 ) and that I shouldn't tell anyone about him. "
"It's serious, my friend, and you may be in trouble if you refuse to answer." "His name," said the driver, "was Sherlock Holmes."
I'd never seen Holmes more surprised. Then he laughed. "He scored against me that time, Watson."
The driver told us everything he knew. Holmes gave him the money and sent him away. "This is a dangerous enemy (敌人), Watson."

15. I didn't want to be a bodybuilding champion. I wanted to be the best bodybuilder of all time.
Deep, deep down ask yourself, "Who do you want to be?" Not what, but who. I'm talking about thinking it out for yourself, "What makes you happy?"
You have to think outside the box. That's what I believe, after all. What's the point of being on this Earth if all you want to be is to be liked and avoid trouble?
We have so many rules in life about everything. I say break the rules. Don't break the law, but break the rules.
I remember that after I had finished with my bodybuilding career I wanted to act. I wanted to be a star in films. Everyone had the same thought that I couldn't be done. They said, "Look at this body, you have this huge monstrous body, you're overly developed." They thought I wouldn't fit into movies. But I didn't listen to them. Those were their rules. I was completely certain that I could do it.
Then I got my big chance in Conan the Barbarian. That shows you should trust yourself no matter what anyone else thinks.
On that movie, the director said, "If we didn't have Schwarzenegger, we would have to build one." Then when I did The Terminator, I said, "I'll be back…" One of the famous lines in movie history, all because of my crazy voice. It just shows that you should never listen to those who say you can't do something.
Don't be afraid to fail. In everything that I have tried, I've always been willing to fail. Don't be afraid of making decisions. You can't be frightened with the fear of failure or you will never push yourself. You can push because you believe in yourself and your imagination. You know it's the right thing to do and success will come. Don't be afraid to fail.

The Windy Day
Book Report By Jason Ma (8A)
Title: The Windy Day
Writer: Alisha Wood
The reason for my choice:
The idea of a recent popular film comes from one of Alisha Wood's stories. The story interests me.
Summary of the book:
It is about what happens to a little boy named Daniel on a windy day.
One day, Daniel is flying his kite on Peace Hill. Suddenly, a strong wind blows up the hill and lifts Daniel right off his feet. Daniel holds on to his kite tightly and is blown into the clouds. Finally he lands in a small town with a sign, "Nowhere: The Town Nobody's Ever Heard Of". This worries Daniel.
He asks people around where Nowhere is. But all of them say, "Nowhere. Nobody knows." He tries hard to find out the way home but he cannot. It is like an adventure until he comes across the King. Daniel talks to him and he decides to help Daniel. He claps his hands twice. A great wind comes up and pulls the kite, along with Daniel, into the clouds and back to Peace Hill.

"My dear Mr Bennet," said his lady to him one day, "have you heard that Netherfield Park is let (出租) at last?"
Mr Bennet replied that he had not.
"But it is," returned she, "for Mrs Long has just been here, and she told me all about it."
Mr Bennet made no answer.
"Do not you want to know who has taken it?" cried his wife impatiently.?
"You want to tell me, and I have no objection (反对) to hearing it."
This was invitation enough.
"Why, my dear, you must know, Mrs Long says that Netherfield is taken by a young man of large fortune (财富) from the north of England; that he came down on Monday to see the place, and was so satisfied with it that he agreed immediately(立即)with Mr Morris, the owner of Netherfield, and some of his servants(仆人) are to be in the house by the end of next week."
"What is his name?"
"Bingley."
"Is he married or single?"
"Oh! Single, my dear, to be sure! A single man of large fortune; four or five thousand a year. What a fine thing for our girls! It is probable that he may fall in love with one of them, and so you must visit him as soon as he comes."
"I see no chance for that. You and the girls may go, or you may send them by themselves, which perhaps will be still better, for as you are as handsome as any of them, Mr Bingley might like you the best of all."
"But, my dear, you must indeed go and see Mr Bingley when he comes into the neighbourhood."
"It is more than what I should do, honestly speaking."
"But consider your daughters. Sir William and Lady Lucas have decided to go, for in general, you know they visit no new comers. Indeed you must go, for it will be impossible for us to visit him, if you do not."
But in fact Mr Bennet was among the earliest of those who waited to visit Mr Bingley. He had always planned to visit him, though to the last always lying to his wife that he would not go.

Pride and Prejudice (傲慢与偏见) for the Modern Woman
Let us imagine how Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen's most famous work, might be updated (更新) over 200 years later. Austen's popularity depends on her wisdom. But today she would certainly have had a very different life, and so would her characters. Here's my own suggestion.
It is true and also well known that women who are wise should have the same chances as men. However, it doesn't happen that way in the real world.
"My dear husband," said Mrs Bennet one day, "have you heard that the local store, standing empty for so long, is taken over by a smart young businesswoman?"
Her husband who didn't seem interested replied that he had not. "But it is, it is," she replied excitedly. Mr. Bennet made no reply.
"Don't you want to know her plans?" she cried with some impatience.
"Well, clearly you think it matters to your silly little head, so I'd better listen."
"Well, my dear, the rumour (传言) is that she has already set up some successful businesses in northern England, though I do not quite understand how a woman can know anything about that." "She will move in herself next month." "What is her name?" "Bingley."
"Is she married or single?"
"What a question! And none of your business. But that will be a fine thing for our boys."
"How so? How can it possibly influence them?"
"My dear love, those lazy boys need something to wake them up. There must be jobs."
"Would she like to live here? Surely as a woman, she has simply preferred the place."
"That's not true, my love, how little you've noticed the world has changed. She's got a good education and some business quality, I'm told. Of course she needs one of our boys! Perhaps you might give her a call."
"Me? No. Perhaps you can take an interest. You still have your looks, after all. She may even offer you a job."
"Oh, that's not possible. These new chances belong to the younger people. But now you mention it, I think I'll have a try all the same."
And Mrs Bennet made it. That was 10 years ago. She is now the general manager of the big company.
It would remain unchanged that Mrs Bennet would be one of very few women in the company, that her salary(收入)would be lower than men managers, and her lifespan among the leaders shorter than those men's. Still, she'd no doubt have enjoyed Davos (达沃斯经济论坛) ﹣ and might even have talked with some very important persons.

A. had mixed feelings of admiration and surprise about Bingley

(3)In the eyes of Mrs Bennet, Bingley certainly needed one of their boys to .
A. get married to B. work for her
