Are you afraid of moving up to senior high school(高中)? Don't worry. We've put together a guide to help you in the first week.
You're not alone
Remember that everybody else in your year is in the same boat. You may not realize it, but they're just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high school is a chance, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is to be polite and learn the new rules.
Teachers are ready to help
Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they're experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with older students. They will help you if you have any problems.
Other points
If you've got an older brother or sister at the school, ask them for advice. Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally. Besides, having early nights makes a difference and you'll find it easier to get up in the morning!
63. The text is a guide for students who ________.
A. will enter the senior high school
B. have finished senior high school
C. have been in senior high school for a year
D. will leave senior high school in a week

A. know who your true friend is
B. find your best friend at school
C. meet the good teachers at school
D. solve many problems at school
D
If you argue with your friend, will you forgive him or her? Most people prefer to forgive others.
Researchers have found that we would like to believe that people are good at heart, even when they have behaved badly. And when these “bad people”do something nice, people will be likely to forgive their mistakes and have a positive(积极的)opinion of them.
In an experiment, more than 1, 500 people were asked to watch two strangers. The strangers were told that they would receive money if they shocked(电击)another person with electricity. The “good” stranger refused the deal and the “bad” one accepted it.
These people were then asked to judge the strangers based on their decisions. They reported having a positive opinion of the “good”stranger. But they were not confident that the“bad” stranger was truly bad. If they then saw the bad person do something good, they were more likely to have a positive impression of him or her.
Scientists believe that it is human nature to see the best in others. This nature can help us develop and keep healthy social relationships. Sometimes, people behave badly by accident. But we might get a bad impression of them anyway and therefore end our relationship with them. But what happens if it is found later that this person is not truly bad? We may have lost a good friend.
66. According to the researchers, most people ________.
A. will argue with their friends
B. like to forgive others' mistakes
C. will make the same mistake
D. like to make many friends
67. Why are people more likely to have a positive impression if bad people do good things?
A. Because most people are not afraid enough.
B. Because bad people need to be encouraged.
C. Because it's natural to see the best in others.
D. Because people only believe what they see.
68. What is the last paragraph trying to say?
A. Being forgiving helps us keep relationships.
B. Ending a relationship is not an easy decision.
C. Believing others is important in a relationship.
D. Judging strangers is not as easy as judging friends.

Mascots are great ambassadors for sporting events. You may remember the five cute “Fuwa ( good?luck)” dolls from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Beijing will host the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Now, let's meet two new mascots. On Sept. 17, 2019, China introduced the two mascots, Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon, for the games to the public.
According to Xinhua News Agency, these two mascots strongly show Chinese culture. As we all know, the giant panda is regarded as a Chinese national treasure. It is a symbol of China, while the red lantern is an important element of Chinese New Year celebrations.
The mascot for the Olympic Games is Bing Dwen Dwen, a giant panda with a white helmet. In Chinese, “bing” means ice and “dwen dwen” means lively. Bing Dwen Dwen's helmet stands for the snow and ice of winter sports, Xinhua News Agency pointed out.
The Paralympic mascot is Shuey Rhon Rhon. It looks like a red lantern. “Shuey” is the Chinese word for snow and “rhon rhon” stands for tolerance and integration. In Chinese culture, lanterns mean “harvest, warmth and light”, China Daily reported.
In August 2018, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games launched a worldwide competition to design the mascots for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The two mascots were chosen from more than 5, 800 designs.
“The two mascots are wonderful ambassadors for China and the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games, ”said International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.

Friendship Day is a great day for celebrating friendship. It falls on the first Sunday of August every year. Celebrating the festival was firstly started by the US in 1935. But now this doesn't only happen in the US. People in other countries are interested in it, too.
The idea of spending the day with friends was spread all over the world. With more and more countries joining in the celebrations, Friendship Day soon became an international festival.
Between 1935 and 1997, Friendship Day didn't have a symbol(象征), like Santa Claus for Christmas. However, in 1997, the United Nations named Winnie the Pooh as the world's Ambassador (大使)of Friendship.
The traditional celebrations include activities such as meeting with friends and exchanging(交换) cards, flowers and gifts. Some people may have parties with their friends. Some may have lunch or dinner together. Others may hang out or go to the movies with friends on this special day. These are popular among all age groups from teenagers to old people.
Although Friendship Day and its celebrations may have changed over the years, the basic idea behind the festival remains the same. People enjoy the moment they spend together and express love and care for their friends.

十、 As we all know, kindness is very important and necessary in our daily life. Today I'm going to talk about how to be a kind person.
In my opinion, a kind person should be polite to others and he can also make others feel warm when talking. He's able to make many good friends and get on well with others. He must have a heart full of love and he's ready to help others. When others are in trouble, he can always give them a hand. He cares about others more than himself. A kind person doesn't always want to get things from others.
I hope everyone can be a kind and loving man. Then our world will become better and better.
