Everybody likes music. But do you know that music is different from songs? Songs express feelings with lyrics(歌词), but music with tones (音调). Unlike songs, music tones have no specific(具体的)meanings.
Different people get different things from the same musical performance. Though some music works are difficult to understand, people need music in their daily life because it brings fun to them. Different people like different music:some love classical music, and others like pop music. Most young people like pop music.
Pop music began in the USA and became popular around the world during the 1950s and 1960s. The best?known early kind of pop music was “rock and roll”. Pop music has taken the place of local music in many parts of the world. It has caused the number of people for “jazz” music to become much smaller than that in the 1950s and earlier. And it now becomes the most popular one. Much pop music is without artistic value, but the works of some pop singers like Bob Dylan, the groups like Pink Floyd and Crosby are excellent. Today people still have a great interest in pop music. Its concerts and festivals are held all over the world.

You might like to listen to music while studying. What kind of music is your favorite? An experiment (实验) done with British workers found that listening to classical music at work can improve one's efficiency (效率) by 15%. A study of 2, 000 British workers found that half of them often listen to music on the job. Some of their bosses encourage them to do so, while others are against it, believing it hurts their work.
British scientist Becky Spelman did an experiment to find out if background music hurts or improves efficiency. In the study, four office workers were asked to copy two 600?word sets of passages. The group worked on the first set with no music playing and worked on the second set with classical music playing in the background. It took them 20 minutes and 59 seconds to finish the first set. The time for the second set was 17 minutes and 42 seconds.
Classical music can work as a kind of white noise, according to Spelman. White noise is a mixture of sounds with different frequencies (频率). It can help people stay cool and relaxed. “In fact, as long as the music has a light beat, it can help us slow our heartbeat and stay relaxed. This makes it easier for us to work quickly and carefully”, Spelman said.

Music is a kind of art but it has many uses other than just being listened to. It has a powerful influence on feelings and physical health. It expresses humans' feelings. And it can also be used as a motivator(动力)to do an activity, such as doing household chores(家务). When music is used as a treatment approach, it is even better than other treatment approaches because it can provide the feelings of safety and relaxation. So it is necessary for us to learn how to enjoy music.
First of all, we should listen to all types of music, and get a feeling for what you like. Don't be afraid to listen to any type of music you find; you might really enjoy it. Please be open to anything and you will be surprised at what you like. Then, try to understand what the artist is trying to express when you listen to a song. Many songs have hidden messages that the artist wants you to find. Listen carefully and enjoy it; maybe you will find something that can help you deal with difficulties. In the end, try to think about what you have heard. Try to find what kind of music and what instrument you like, and listen to them.
Learn to enjoy music in a right way, and you will find listening to music not only makes you feel relaxed, but also improves your work efficiency.

A little while ago, the musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was on at the Hollywood Pantages Theater in Hollywood, California. It's also from the novel of the same name by British writer Roald Dahl. I got to enjoy the show.
In the story, a young boy named Charlie came from a poor family. But he got one of the five “golden tickets”. It allowed him to meet Willy Wonka. He was Charlie's favorite man. He had a famous chocolate factory. In the factory Charlie had an unbelievable experience with Wonka. Charlie was very polite, while the other four golden ticket winners were very difficult. In the end, Charlie won Wonka's attention and ended up with a bigger future than anything he ever dreamed about.
Both the young and the old like the musical. Young people love the story because of its good qualities (品质), while the old people love the story because of nostalgia (怀旧) it brings. All the people in the theater shouted with excitement before the show started.
The musical was excellent, because the actors and actresses were wonderful. At the end of the show, the actors and actresses all came out for a curtain call (谢幕) and all people in the theater cheered for them. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of my favorites. Seeing it was wonderful.
