Watching TV is a major activity and has a great effect on children. Children in the United States watch an average of three to four hours of television a day. By the time of high school graduation, they will have spent more time watching television than they spent in the classroom. Although the television can make our children relax and keep them company, it may also affect them in undesirable ways.
Watching television takes away the time for important activities such as reading, school work, doing exercise and family union. Besides, children may also get incorrect information from the television. They often cannot tell the difference between the fantasy(虚拟) and the reality(现实). They are affected by thousands of advertisements on TV, many of which are for alcohol, junk food, fast food and so on.
Active parenting(养育) can make sure that children have a positive(积极的)experience with the television. Parents can help them by doing the following:Don't allow children to watch long blocks of TV, but help them choose programs. Children's shows on public TV are appropriate(适当的), but soap operas and adult talk shows are not. Set certain periods when the television will be off. Stop them from sitting in front of the TV doing homework. Meal time is a good time for family members to talk with each other, not for watching television. With proper guidance, your children can learn to use the television in a healthy and positive way.
63. Children who spend much time watching TV probably ________.
A. like junk food
B. are happy
C. get along well with others

Sitting in front of the television may be relaxing, but spending too much time in front of it may take years off your life. Watching television less may help you live a much longer life.
Australian researchers studied more than 11, 000 people over the age of 25. Their study showed that if people watched TV for six hours a day, they lived about 4. 8 years less than those who didn't watch any television. Also, people who are over the age of 25 lose 22 minutes of life for every hour of TV that they watch.
Sitting in front of the television isn't healthy. The more TV you watch, the less exercise you'll get. And the less exercise you get, the more likely it is that you'll get sick.
Lennert Veerman, the researcher who led the study, says watching too much TV will be bad for people's life, even for people who have a good diet. He thinks it's necessary for doctors to start asking their patients about how much TV they watch, as it can be an indicator(指标)of someone's overall health.
Therefore, Veerman has called on people to turn off their TVs and get off the sofa to get some exercise. “Exercise is good, ” he said. “Even light activity is good for health. ”
66. Australian researchers did a study on ________.
A. how much time people spend watching TV
B. what people usually do to relax after work
C. how watching too much TV can have a bad influence on people
D. what people should do to lengthen (延长) their life
67. According to the study, if a 35?year?old man watches TV for two hours, he will lose ________ of life.
A. 6 hours B. 4. 8 years
C. 22 minutes D. 44 minutes

Where does sitcom laughter come from?
New seasons of US TV shows are coming out, including the popular sitcom(情景喜剧) The Big Bang Theory(《生活大爆炸》). If you are a fan of sitcoms, you must be familiar with the laughter in sitcoms. But do you know whether it is real or fake(假的)?
One type of laughter is called canned laughter(罐头笑声)or fake laughter. According to the BBC, during the 1950s a US sound engineer named Charley Douglass invented canned laughter. He recorded different kinds of laughter, including giggles(咯咯笑), laughing out loudly and children's laughter. This was the early form of canned laughter.
Canned laughter helps audiences (观众) of TV shows understand when to laugh. Many popular TV dramas, including 2 Broke Girls(《破产姐妹》), used canned laughter. You can also hear canned laughter in Chinese sitcoms, including Home with Kids (《家有儿女》) and IPartment (《爱情公寓》).
Canned laughter was used in many sitcoms for about 10 years, until some people complained that it sounded too silly. They thought real laughter is more believable. Some famous sitcoms, such as Friends and The Big Bang Theory, all use real laughter.
How do they get the real laughter? The Big Bang Theory sells tickets to audiences around the world to join their live recordings. So all the laughter you hear is from the real audiences.
There are also professional( 专业的) laughers. They are good at laughing loudly. They sit with live studio audiences to get everyone else to laugh at just the right moment.
69. Who invented canned laughter?
A. A film?maker. B. An editor.
C. An engineer. D. A doctor.
70. Which of the following is NOT included in canned laughter?
A. Giggles. B. Smiles.
C. Loud laughing. D. Children's laughter.
71. What do we know about canned laughter?
A. It was first made in the US.
B. It helped the audiences laugh at the actors.
C. It was built in a can.
D. It was popular in the 1980s.
72. What's the main idea of the fourth paragraph?
A. Canned laughter has been popular for 10 years.
B. Canned laughter sounds very silly.
C. Canned laughter may be less popular today.
D. Famous sitcoms never use canned laughter.

三、 My mother was telling me about how she and her family got their first television when she was a teenager. Of course it was black and white. She said she only watched TV at night. She never watched it in the morning or afternoon. She said, “When I was young we had only about 3 or 4 different channels. My brothers, my sisters and I would sometimes fight about which channel to watch, but we usually enjoyed the same shows. Nowadays we can get hundreds of channels on TV. I can't believe it! There are channels with old movies, drama series, news and so on. It's amazing! I wonder how much my brothers, my sisters and I would have fought if we had had hundreds of channels when I was a child. Of course we had only one television set. These days I notice families with 2, 3 or more television sets in their homes. I guess it can stop people from arguing about which channel to choose. ”
四、 Good evening, everyone!Let's have a look at what we've got for you tomorrow on Channel 19.
As it's Saturday, we've got programmes for children. We start at 7:00 with cartoons. These go on until 9:00 and then we continue with a magazine programme. There's something for everyone—animals, art and the countryside. Then from 10:00 to 12:00, we have something for young people—rock music with all the latest groups and singers. After rock music, there's half an hour of news. And that's followed by sports. This afternoon you can watch an exciting football match between Brazil and France. The football match is followed at 4:00 by a TV play called I love you forever, a beautiful story. I think girls and women will like it. At 7:00 it's time for our Saturday evening film.
